Welcome back to the studio.  This is My Day of Play, where you're taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up.  The original purpose of these episodes was to give my broadcasting students something to edit, to practice with and to call their own.  Then I realized that you are just as important.  Share the reality of how it really went.  We begin things with the very inspiring novelist Gary E Parker whose new book is very Friday Night Lights Erin Brockovich.  It's titled The Playbook. Then it's a short conversation with Gianna Prudente and Jame Jackson Gadsden from the podcast Lets Talk Off Line. And we'll wrap things up Jesse Nelson cofounder of Exhumed Films. We're talking DialbolikDVD.  This is My Day of Play.  Completely unedited in the way of meeting the wizard behind the curtain.  Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Obviously anybody listening to this podcast is a huge fan of horror movies. There is no better time to be a movie fan because of all the incredible releases that keep coming out, not just here in the states, but around the world. From movies that we grew up loving, to the more obscure and unseen titles, it is a never-ending journey to discover or re-discover these titles. And one of the men responsible for helping us fans is Jesse Nelson from Diabolik DVD, as well as Exhumed Films, and more recently Cauldron Films. So sit down and listen to some great stories, and maybe even learn some etiquettewhen it comes to collecting, customer service, and what fans should expect from shops like Diabolik DVD, and the other boutique labels, and realize the hard work they are all doing to bring us fans some great viewing experiences. HEY TEAM WE ARE BACK!!! So, I think we talked about this on the show before, but 4 years ago now we started a conversation with friend of the show and well known Delco native Michael Berdan about movies and music and all manner of things. Our plan was to record with him prior to a show he was playing at PhilaMOCA with Dark Blue. However, there were issues (intentional sabotage by Sharky) and we postponed our conversation till we had time again. Well, we got busy as you know, but more importantly Berdan’s awesome project, UNIFORM blew up and well, getting back together went from “in a month or so” to right now, the apocalypse. Sure, it took us four years to finally follow through on our promise, but look, HERE WE ARE! The timing is great because we have more time to connect, it is the spooky season so we all have spooky on the mind, and UNIFORM has a new record out that both Josh and I are obsessed with.  For this episode we were inspired by a few things, one was the fact that we all know each other a little better not from shows, but from the now gone EXHUMED FILMS 24 HOUR HORRORTHON, by Berdan talking about his October schedule he had programmed, and by the Patreon exclusive episode of HORROR BUSINESS Lore and I did where we programmed our own 24 hour Horrorthon THAT’S RIGHT, STRAP IN, BECAUSE WE HAVE EACH PROGRAMMED OUR OWN IMAGINARY HORRORTHON FOR YOU TO ENJOY! Besides enjoying hanging out virtually with our friend Berdan and discussing horror, my personal goal for this activity was to surpass the list I did for Patreon. Was I succesful? YOU DECIDE!!! It was an utter pleasure to discuss music and life and Delco and of course HORROR with Berdan, he was easily one of our favorite guests and we cannot wait to have him back on the show. We want to know what YOU thought of our picks, so get in touch with us over social media or email and hit us with your feedback. Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business. We have one awesome episode in store for you! In this episode we’re talking about 1983’s The Keep and 1996’s Apt Pupil. And, as an added bonus, we’re joined by long time friend of the show Ryan Sawyer! We apologize for some of the audio issues including Ryan’s recent horror activities, which was unfortunately cut off. First and foremost we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screen-printing company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a t-shirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Also, thank you to our Patreon subscribers. Your support means the world to us and we are eternally grateful for that support. Thanks! We start by briefly discussing what we’ve done lately involving horror. Liam talks about the final Exhumed Films event at the Lightbox Film Center and seeing Joker and Doctor Sleep, and Justin talks about seeing the films Sweetheart, Velvet Buzzsaw, Antrum, Wounds, Harpoon, Hush, and Happy Death Day 2U. We begin by talking about The Keep. We each discuss how we first became aware of the film (Ryan being introduced by a friend, Liam through cable TV, and Justin through the work of F. Paul Wilson). We discuss the troubled production of the film and how Michael Mann was somewhat handcuffed by Paramount’s meddling. We briefly touch upon Wilson’s view of the film and how it’s softened over time. We examine the various shortcomings of the film: oftentimes it feels incomplete, rushed, and half formed. We briefly talk about the film’s divergence from the source material and how that takes away from the heart of the story (moral dilemma, a lack of stakes, muddled mythology, etc). We talk about the surreal and fascinating imagery of the film and how the almost makes up for the confusing narrative. We briefly talk about the larger interconnected mythos of F. Paul Wilson’s fiction (the Adversary Cycle and the Repairman Jack saga). Next up is Apt Pupil. We begin by giving a brief summary of the film. We talk about the problematic nature of Brian Singer and how his films are often viewed through the lens of his crimes. We touch upon the homoerotic subtext of the film and the idea of “the male gaze” being cast upon Brad Renfro. We briefly talk about how the film is reminiscent of the film In A Glass Cage and how the film treats the concept of Nazi war crimes with something like velvet gloves. We talk about how the film weakly attempts to frame the death drive of Nazism in through sexual tension between Renfro and McKellan via BDSM, and we again discuss the problematic nature of Brian Singer making a film about an older man engaging in quasi-BDSM with a teenager. Ryan brings up the concept about how both films revolve around the idea of something being suppressed and that something being released to wreak havoc on the world in some way. We touch upon the questionable view of Nazism as a corrupting ideology as opposed to an ideology that attracts corrupt people and allows them to act out their evil desires. We briefly discuss what we actually enjoyed about the film but this turns into how the film hasn’t really aged all that well. First, and foremost, a huge thanks to Ryan for being rad enough to come and talk to use about these films. Also thank you to everyone and anyone who donated on Patreon, checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening. Any questions, comments, suggestions for movies and guests, or if you yourself want to join us for a movie viewing or even an episode, can be sent to thehorrorbiz@gmail.com. We talk about some of the performances and what makes the franchise so good, and Justin discusses what hits so hard about the film. We dissect the film as an analogy for criticizing hoarding of wealth and consumerism, as well as some aspects of the film that could be perceived as anti-colonial. We talk about some of the performances in the film and our personal histories with the movie. Next up is Trick R’ Treat. We discuss how the film breaks outside of the box that many anthology films live and die by and how it is a relatively recent film to be considered a classic but is nonetheless beloved. We talk about the impact the film has had on Halloween culture, in that the idea of “the rules of Halloween” sprang from it. We briefly talk about the fact that this film has a strong sense of justice in that the bad guys often get what is coming to them and that many of the people who die deserve it. We examine the fact that despite the film’s relatively lighthearted tone, there are a few genuinely creepy moments. And finally we talk about the character Sam, who has become something of an iconic character over the years and was a wise branding move on behalf of the filmmakers. Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business. We have one awesome episode in store for you guys. On this episode we’re discussing 1971’s Let’s Scare Jessica To Death and 1990’s Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer. Thanks! We start by talking about what we’ve seen or done lately in the field of horror. Liam briefly talks about seeing the Netflix original film Apostle and attending the annual Exhumed Films 24 Hour Horrorthon, and seeing the film Great White aka The Last Shark and Fade To Black. Justin talks about seeing the films Terrifier, Cold Skin, Still/Born, and Slender Man and starting the final season of the TV series Penny Dreadful. First up is 1971’s Let’s Scare Jessica To Death. We begin by talking about the quasi-underrated nature of the film and giving a brief outline of the film. We touch upon the strange and misleading nature of the title and how the film never quite reveals as to whether or not what we’re seeing on screen is real. We talk about the way mental illness is depicted in the film and the possible symbolism of other characters in the film that aren’t Jessica. The concept of an environment being hostile to outsiders is touched upon. Up next is 1990’s Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer. Liam talks about how he first encountered the film, and how it is essentially the “anti-80s horror film” and how it didn’t hold up upon a second viewing. We talk about the almost unnecessary cruelty of the film at times and how the excessive violence comes off as just that: excessive. There is a brief discussion on the abandonment of supernatural themes in the early 90s and the rise of the splatterpunk movement. The “nobilization” of Henry and how the film flirts with sympathizing with him is discussed; as is how this is a shortcoming on the part of the filmmakers for waffling on the nature of Henry i.e. is he evil or just misunderstood? The conflation of “intense and violent” with “good and scary” is discussed. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who donated on Patreon, checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business. We have one awesome episode in store for you guys. On this episode we’re discussing Sam Raimi’s EVIL DEAD franchise and we’re joined by fellow Cinepunk and all around hooligan John Wren from The Mandate podcast. Thanks! We start by talking about what we’ve seen or done lately in the field of horror. Liam talks about seeing Flesh For Frankenstein and Blood For Dracula at an Exhumed Films event Philly, the Castle Rock series, John talks about The Meg, and Justin talks about seeing Pyewacket and Wildling. We of course begin with how we first came to see The Evil Dead when we were younger. We talk about the weird remake qualities of Evil Dead II, and how that film is responsible for many people thinking that Evil Dead is something of a comedy. The concept of having to kill your friends after they become something other than human beings is discussed at length. The discovery of Army Of Darkness being connected to The Evil Dead is talked about, as is the process of Evil Dead II being made with a strange opening that rehashes the first film. The literal nightmarish qualities of the ending of the first film are dissected, in that the shortcomings of the practical effects actually lend a very grotesque look to the finished product. The development of Ash Williams throughout the franchise from scared college kid to swaggering dopey badass is discussed at length. The politics and behind the scene drama of Ash Vs. Evil Dead is talked about, as is the damage done to him as a human being by the things he’s witnessed since going to the cabin for the first time. The show’s third season perfecting the feel of Ash as a culmination of all of the films is discussed. The show’s abrupt ending is touched upon and how even though it felt abrupt it still felt appropriate. Lucy Lawless’ central role in the show is touched upon. We briefly talk about the 2013 remake, remakes in general, how the first film and Phantasm are masterpieces of independent filmmaking, and conclude the discussion by talking about how the franchise is arguably pound for pound the greatest horror franchise of all time. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who donated on Patreon, checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening. Any questions, comments, suggestions for movies and guests, or if you yourself want to join us for a movie viewing or even an episode, can be sent to thehorrorbiz@gmail.com. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a tshirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Thanks! This episode we are continuing our series on the concept of animal horror, with two films from 1972: Night Of 1000 Cats and Pigs. We begin by talking about what horror related things we had done lately. Liam talks about the recent 3-D film festival 3D DEMENTIA by Exhumed Films he went to, and Justin talks about seeing Annabelle: Origin, seeing Jaws at the Frank Banko Ale House in Bethlehem, and viewing The Devil’s Candy and Green Inferno. Up first we talk about 1972’s Night Of 1000 Cats. We begin by pointing out that unlike the other films we’ve covered for this series, both films in this episode do not feature the titular animals as the main antagonists, but are instead titled as such for ease of marketing. We then briefly discuss Hugo Stiglitz’s career, and how his character in this film is an extension of the character he often plays. We talk about the varying cuts of the film and how those different cuts affect the perception of the film. The basic plot of the film is given, and criticism of the poor cutting of the film is discussed. The treatment of the animals in the film is discussed, as is Hugo’s relationship with his sidekick Gorgo. How the film treats pathological disorders related to compulsive killing is discussed. Finally, we talk about that while the cats are not heavily featured as antagonists, they are used to portray the mental state of the character of Hugo in that he is often times on the verge of frenzy, and his psychosis is something struggling to get out. Next is 1972’s Pigs. We talk about the film’s numerous titles, and how each title was done in an attempt to cash in on some cinematic trend or another by adding or deleting scenes after the film had been initially released. We give a basic plot outline of the version we saw, and discuss the surprising quality of the film given the production value. We talk about how the film could actually be two separate films, given the two main plotlines actually being whole in and of themselves. The acting, cinematography, and soundtrack are briefly touched upon. We talk about the main characters remaining largely sympathetic throughout the film, while the murder victims being surprisingly unsympathetic. As with the first film, we talk about how the state of the titular animals is used to portray an internal mental state of the characters. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening. Greetings creepazoids, and welcome back to Horror Business, the podcast that doesn’t feel pity, it doesn’t feel remorse, it can’t be reasoned with, and it will not stop until you are as just as much an elitist asshole about horror movie as we are. Thank you as always for checking us out and we have got one heck of an episode for you guys. First and foremost we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screenprinting company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a tshirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Or…whatever else you need printed. So head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Also a huge thanks to friend of the podcast Albert Martin of the Lehigh Valley Horror Facebook group for his unflagging support of this podcast. Without you guys, we are nothing. Thanks! This episode we take a look at two films from Charles Band’s Full Moon Pictures, world renowned for their ability to take a B movie approach and make quality films sometimes. The two films we discuss are 1991’s Subspecies and 1994’s Seed People. We begin by giving a shout out to Chris and LVAC, and then talking about what we’ve seen recently. We talk about the recent Exhumed Films event in Philadelphia we attended, a screening of Killer Klowns From Outer Space and The Deadly Spawn to benefit noted NJ horror aficionado James Harris. We discuss both films and our familiarity with them and James’ recent struggles with cancer. We then briefly talk about Liam’s upcoming fatherhood (he’ll be a dad by the time you hear this) and Liam’s accomplishments (or failures) with the Letterboxd 2017 Cult Movie Challenge. There’s miscellaneous small talk that isn’t reeeally worth detailing, Liam talks about the series ‘Crazy Head’, and Justin makes several weird accusations about D.B. Sweeney and Travis Walton. We discuss how originally this episode was supposed to be an “evil alien” episode on Without Warning and Xtro but because those movies are apparently rare as fuck we skipped on it, and then move on to the actual films of this episode. We give a brief background on Full Moon Productions and Charles Band in general (the varied lineup of the roster, the transition from Empire Pictures, the lack of Barbara Crampton on the Full Moon roster, etc) with a declaration that Empire Pictures is better than Full Moon because no Full Moon film can top From Beyond (note: this is a fact). A brief plot outline of Subspecies is given, and from there we generally rip the movie apart for it’s horrible acting, somehow even more horrible special effects, Angus Scrimm’s puzzling role in this film. Justin mistakenly claims Brad Dourif was in The Gate (it was Stephen Dorff) and then argues with Liam that the ‘Subspecies’ in the title are actually the terrible little monsters that serve no purpose in the movie (I, Justin, am later proven right). There’s more criticism of everything about this movie, ranging from a cloudy plot, excessive vampire drooling, a McGuffin that looks like a butt plug but instead some kind of vampire heirloom, the inability of this movie to properly capture what time period it’s supposed to take place, the uneven tone of the film, and more complaining about the special effects. Extra sharp venom is hurled at the demons in the movie, which Liam rightfully compares to a shitty video game. The films being shot on location in Romania is briefly praised, but before we get too comfortable giving it credit we go back to trashing the way the characters dress. More halfhearted praise is given to the lead actress but the character of Stefan is trashed for being lackadaisical and boring, and then the character of Radu is ripped apart for being horribly non-intimidating and goofy. A brief retelling of the near screaming match we got into over vampire lore occ...

James Harris is a horror fan, writer, and podcaster. He is well known for his website docterror.com, and his podcast Horror Sexy. He has been a long time supporter of Exhumed Films, and is, as far as we know, the only person to have a 24 Hour Horror-Thon tattoo. James is also sick. In December 2015 he was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. He has undergone surgery and chemo, and is still fighting a challenging fight. While he has been sick, James has been very open about his struggle, the highs and lows, and even talked about horror as a metaphor for his sickness. Inspired by his determination, and wanting to create an opportunity for the horror community to support him, Exhumed Films held a benefit double feature screening of KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE and DEADLY SPAWN at International House in Philadelphia, and at that event we were honored to get a chance to sit down and talk to James. In addition there was a massive auction and raffle, and they were able to raise significant funds for James because of the generosity of the horror community. Thanks immediately to Joseph Gervasi for connecting us with James and for basically hosting this conversation. Go listen to Joseph’s show LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! Immediately. More than that though thanks to James for sharing some of his story with us and for advocating in many ways for folks facing cancer everywhere. We have been given many great opportunities to talk to awesome people (many of which solely because of Joseph btw) but never before have I felt so honored to talk to someone. Don’t get it wrong, James is just a guy who love horror, his family, and who is facing a tough situation. Yet, he is so inspiring and insightful about his condition, we have never before felt so blessed to share a story. James is also funny, so don’t expect a dour mediation on the nature of sickness either. This was a fun conversation, it is was also honest though and it was completely lacking in pretense for which we cannot thank James enough. Just in being who he is he has given us, both Cinepunx and James you who check this out a real gift. Enjoy the episode, check out James projects, and throw Exhumed some support because they are exactly the kind of stand up gentleman who would have an event like this. Greetings creepy people, and welcome back to Horror Business, the podcast that loves you no matter what. As always you are in for a treat! This episode we’re joined by the one and only Joe Yanick of the wonderful Small Screen Cinema podcast to help us unpack the annual Exhumed Films Horrorthon, a twenty four hour horror marathon the weekend before Halloween in Philadelphia. In addition to discussing the movies with Joe, we were also lucky enough to talk to some people at the Horrorthon on various things, including but not limited to Alice Cooper and the eternal question of ‘Is Pumpkinhead actually any good?’ (Spoiler: yes. It is). I, Justin, unfortunately had to bow out about halfway through the ‘thon due to some personal issues, so there were some movies that played that I couldn’t offer any input on, but Liam and Joe pick up the slack with the movies I hadn’t seen. We apologize in advance for the rough sound quality and simply ask that you find it in yourselves to bear it out for us because we would do the same for you. The theme for this year’s horrorthon was the golden decade of horror: the 1980s. The movies shown were, in chronological order, Motel Hell, The Boogens, Visiting Hours, Cujo, Eyes Of Fire, Night Shadows aka Mutant, Monster Dog, Scream For Help, The Mutilator, The Hitcher, Child’s Play, House, Rawhead Rex, and Society.       We were lucky enough to talk to some people at the Horrorthon about what they had seen so far and what they were excited to see the rest of the night, and at the end of the episode we have some of those short interviews for you guys. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening. Massive thanks to the wonderful Joe Yanick for debasing himself enough to appear on this podcast and talk with us about the movies we saw. Thanks to Exhumed Films and everyone involved for putting on the Horrorthon. More information on Exhumed can be found at www.exhumedfilms.com. OUR MONTH OF HORROR CONTINUES WITH A BRAND NEW EPISODE OF CINEPUNX Hey everybody, and then you for checking out this very special edition of Cinepunx. Episode 39 was recorded LIVE and ON LOCATION at the Exhumed Films 24 Hour Horrorthon! We Have to begin with so many thank you’s, first off to Exhumed Films for such an awesome event, second to our good friend Jacob Knight for recording and intro and outro for this episode, and then to all of you who spoke to us and who bought t-shirts. EPISODE NOTES: As with any episode we do like this, LIVE AND ON LOCATION, there are a few different elements. However, this one has more than usual so I wanted to break it down for you Intro from Josh (he had to miss the Horrorthon) Intro recorded on site by Me and Jacob Various Interviews This is cool, the Exhumed guys brought in the write of Night of the Demons Joe Augustyn and he did a Q+A after the film, so this is a recording of that More interviews Wrap up by Me and Jacob (This goes down at about the 1.5 hour mark) There is also a BIG APOLOGY due. I was using a new device to record a lot of this episode, and so occasionally it didn’t work or I used it wrong and we lost interviews. Some of those lost interviews were friends, others folks we just met. HOWEVER one was  gentleman who I believe is named Chris who runs THE HUDSON HORROR SHOW! Guy was super nice and cool and really went out of his way to promote his event in his interview, and we lost it. My bad Chris. So do me a favor and go check out the AWESOME Hudson Horror Show!   SOUND NOTES: It is a little rough at times. We recorded this on site with our new mobile recorder, and it took some time to figure out how it works. So we not only lost some interviews, but the sound quality varies to a frustrating degree. The intro from Josh is also a little rough because of equipment issues on his end. So Basically, the end is the best recorded part, where me and Jacob sit down and talk. Of course, I was half dead at this point so it ain’t perfect. It will do though. ANYWAY thanks for listening, please comment and share, and remember we still have shirts so email us at cinepunx@gmail.com The post EPISODE 39: ON LOCATION AT EXHUMED FILMS 24 HOUR HORRORTHON IX appeared first on Cinepunx.

LOOK AT US KEEPING OUR PROMISES LIKE SOME SORT OF SQUARES! IT IS A NEW EPISODE OF THE NOTORIOUS C.I.N.E.P.U.N.X.     Oh, hai guise. Welcome to the latest installment of our MONTH OF HORRORS! We sat down with Mosh Master, Horror Hound, and Vocalist extreme John Wren! You may know him from his band BOTTOMFEEDER  or you may have read some of his film reviews on STEREOKILLER  or you may have had him mosh you into oblivion during an ALL OUT WAR set or for that matter NEW FOUND GLORY or GWAR. dude gets around. As one of the first dudes I remember knowing from both shows and who made an effort to see cool movies, I was stoked to have him on the show. He and Josh hit it off too, and Josh declared that they are now friends, so that is a plus. We spent more time discussing the new Austrian film GOODNIGHT MOMMY, than I think we intended. Our hope was that the film would lead to a richer discussion of horror in general, and though we had a good conversation, it wasn’t as broad as I know we could have done. I of course talk too much as usual, cause I am a monster. OH NO, LOOK OUT, IT IS THE LATEST EPISODE OF CINEPUNX!!!!! Oh, hai nerds, we got a new episode for you! This past Tuesday we were grateful to sit down with Josh’s old friend and now Liam’s new friend Brian Kantorek. Brian is, like us, and aging hardcore enthusiast who has played in bands like Ubi Sunt, The Curse, and Go! For The Throat. He is also a very nice guy, a fun person to talk to, and a dude with a Taxi Driver shirt, which is sick. Liam is writing all this from Chicago. Hi. I am out here for BRUCE CAMPBELL’S HORROR FILM FEST, an event I am helping out with. The fes is booked by friend of the show Josh Goldbloom of THE AWESOME FEST! However, this is some hectic stuff so this write up will be short. This episode, after our usual pontificating on movies we have seen lately and shows we have gone to, we discussed the issue of growing old within the context of the Hardcore Punk scene. There is some thoughts about young core folk, about caring about old or new music, nostalgia, and some griping from us about kids and how we don’t like them. Please, do not take our griping to seriously, we are old and like the sound of our own voices. Well me especially. I talk too much this episode, as usual. I really thought this would be one where we mostly hear from Josh and BK, but I was getting on more than a few high horses. I definitely sound smug. I was tempted to edit out a couple of my tirades, but hey, this show is not about looking good. We are trying to be our authentic selves, and I am authentically full of it. BK is great though, and we are so glad he could be with us. If you haven’t ever checked out any of BK’s bands, I highly recommend it. No sound notes this episode, sounded good to me. Also, no real links. I think everything we discussed is easy to find other than BK’s bands, so I trust you to utilize google for those purposes. All I can reiterate from the episode is that you MUST check out THE LOOK OF SILENCE if it is playing anywhere near you, Josh is probably right that NEUROSIS is one of the most important bands in heavy music like ever, and if you are free this weekend go to that EXHUMED FILMS event in Yonkers. It will be hot. As usual we are beyond grateful that we have an audience, that you take the time to listen to this, and that you tell your friends. HERE WE GO AGAIN, ANOTHER RAUCOUS AND RUDE EPISODE OF CINEPUNX!!! Actually, this episode is neither raucous nor rude, but hopefully it is entertaining. Since this episode was inspired by the release of DOPE, we decided to discuss “Coming of Age” films. There was some discussion of whether DOPE even fairly fits this genre, what we think defines this genre, and some of our favorite and least favorite coming of age films. SHOW NOTES 1. As usual we discuss some things you should have links to like The Mahoning Drive In, the RUBA club, Exhumed Films, This Is Hardcore Fest, Philly Hardcore Shows, The New Horror Business podcast 2. This episode contains light spoilers for a number of classic films but HEAVY spoilers for recent film EX-MACHINA, so if you have not seen it skip all discussion of it 3. FANDOR DID NOT PAY ME TO TALK ABOUT HOW COOL IT IS! However, because of my regular column RUNNING ON STREAM I do have a free subscription, so, you know, full disclosure or whatever… 4. WE DISCUSS DOPE, MOONRISE KINGDOM, SUBMARINE, THE 400 BLOWS, COOLIE HIGH, STAND BY ME, THE SANDLOT, KINGS OF SUMMER, AND KARATE KID. I think those are all the Coming of Age movies we talk about, but not sure. 5. we don’t know what a coming of age movie is BTW, so, you know, take anything we say with a grain of salt. In process I also talk trash on Jacob Berman, but we love you man. 6. SUGAR PROBLEMS!! So, immediately after this episode ended, Josh asked me if I was feeling ok cause I was really “low energy”. Some of you know, but for those of you who do not, I have type 1 diabetes. This effects me in many ways, not least of which is that, if I eat the wrong thing, and my sugar goes high, I get very slow and groggy. When I arrived at Josh’s house to record, he had pizza, and while I should have said no, I said yes. Cause pizza is awesome. Unfortunately, I think it was not my best show because my sugar was out of whack for the entire time and I sounded kind of drunk or tired. Apologies to all and thanks for your patience. 7. Related note: I had to cut literally like 15 “ums” and I know I missed some so apologies for that. Thanks so much for listening! Thanks to everyone who has ordered a shirt as well. Finally, do not forget to rate/review/subscribe in iTunes! This helps us a LOT, and thanks to those who have already done so. SOUND NOTES Nothing to report I don’t think, sounded great to me. Comment below if you hear something off. That is all friends. Thanks and rock on! The post Episode 31: COMING OF AGE FILMS- THE BEST AND THE WORST appeared first on Cinepunx.

Welcome to the latest re-imaging of the 80s classic, CINEPUNX! In this creative new vision we have cast Liam in the role of Ricky Martin, and Josh in the role of Weng Weng! Ok wait no, this is the episode where we discuss remakes, in depth, and with our friend Jackee Sadicario! You may know Jackee from the literary magazine Bedfellows which is exactly what it sounds like. We think it sounds awesome, so that is what it is. Jackee is also a long time fixture in the Hardcore scene, and though she is from Long Island, has been in Philly for 8 years. Being from Long Island, she cannot help but discuss Crime in Stereo on the show, but we love her anyway. We also spend no small amount of time talking about how great Spy was and then Jackee bad mouths that band FRAMEWORKS, actually she talks trash on almost all the bands that opened that recent MODERN LIFE IS WAR show. It was so cool. Things we discuss in this episode worthy of links: 1. Bedfellows 2. Young Ones 3, How there is nothing Filipino about Starship Troopers 4. Philadelphia Hardcore Shows 5. Exhumed Films 6. The Mahoning Drive-in Not sure if those links are all that helpful, but links encourage clicks, right? RIGHT? Jackee was a dream to talk to, had some great insights about remakes and specifically the Dawn of the Dead remake and the upcoming The Craft remake. Hope we can have her one again soon SOUND NOTES This week, thanks in some small part to Sunny of Hate5six we were able to record through a soundboard. I think the sound turned out noticeably better, what do you think? Let us know in yonder comments. Ok, thanks. CAUTION, AHEAD LIE SPOILERS FOR AGE OF ULTRON, LISTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK! Welcome to yet another salacious edition of Cinepunx where we talk Ex-Fest! This episode’s guest is Jennifer Rodgers (@FinalGirlSG ) who you may know from her blog Final Girl Support Group! The episode also feature’s our own Sean Bennis-Sine, one of our extended members. He is like the Falcon to our…oh wait, Falcon is a regular Avenger in the MCU now. Oh wait, gimme a sec here. He is like the Havok to our 80’s Uncanny X-Men. That works right? For those of you who do not know, Ex-Fest is a 12 hour Exploitation Film festival, all presented on 35mm, put together by our good friends over at Exhumed Films. If you would like to read more of Liam’s thoughts on the fest you can find his review here. You probably don’t though cause he talks a LOT on this episode. Usually when you have a guest on your show, you make room for them to talk. This is doubly true when you technically have two guests, even if one is Sean so he doesn’t count. However, Liam is one talky Mcgee this episode and he feels bad about that. Sorry. Regardless, we discuss a few things as well as Ex-Fest such as: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ROAR UNFRIENDED SEAN BEING DRUNK OUR EVENT ON MAY 11TH ZOMBIE DRIVE IN HOW STOKED WE ARE FOR FURY ROAD You get the idea. Also, not in that order. Thanks as always to all of you for listening, and to Jen and Sean for being on the show. SOUND NOTES: It is ok. Gets a little echo effect toward the end. Why does it do that? Most likely because you don’t say your prayers anymore. We are, we hope, going to be making a concerted effort to raise the money to buy new equipment. Wanna help out? Easy, go to this event and buy a shirt. Also, just give us some cash. Also, hit us up with connections to cheap sound equipment. We need a mixer with a usb out, some microphones that are ok, and chords. That is it yall. Ok, thanks again for listening, subscribe to us in stuff, and be cool or whatever. Don’t want to miss an ep? HOT OFF THE PRESSES, NEW CINEPUNX DETAILS!!! or you know, just a new episode for you all! (Don’t want to miss an ep? Subscribe to us on iTunes!) On this week’s episode we sat down with Dan Fraga of Exhumed Films to discuss how he got into both Hardcore Punk and Horror films, as well as the connections he sees between the two. Dan was great to talk to, and has the coolest basement. Unfortunately we did not have time to play any of his awesome cabinet video games or pinball machines, but maybe sometime soon! During the episode Dan mentioned some upcoming Exhumed Films events, such as: MILLIGAN MANIA on April 10 and PAUL NASCHY CREATURE FEATURES “AS SEEN ON TV” on April 15 and of course Liam’s favorite EX-FEST: PART V SPEAKING OF UPCOMING EVENTS: Some of you know, some of you do not, but we are hosting an event as part of the CINEDELPHIA FILM FESTIVAL that we are very excited about! HATE5SIX RETROSPECTIVE: An evening with Sunny Singh of Hate5Six.com That should be a lot of fun so check it out, and tell your friends all about it. There were references during the episode to some classic bands that, if you don’t know, you should find out about. There was also some discussion of the classic tv series NIGHT FLIGHT. Do you remember NIGHT FLIGHT? If you do, tell us about it in the comments below. SOUND NOTES: There is a brief section where Dan’s mic cut out, but we stopped and were able to get it working again. There is also a brief edit where I let slip some confidential info, oops. You may not notice it but you may! Finally, we get an echo toward the end of the episode, and Liam wasn’t feeling well so at points you can here him breathing loudly. Yeah, we are a class act. Keep an eye out for our campaign soon to improve our sound! Thanks for listening, and please if you check us out on Itunes rates and subscribe! Thanks! Greetings INTERNET! Welcome to episode 25 of CINEPUNX!!! This week we were lucky to sit down with Scott Crawford and Jim Saah, makers of Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, D.C. Check out the trailer below [youtube link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF3uSPyrQyQ” width=”612″ height=”345″] Salad Days does an admirable job documenting one of longest running and most diverse scenes in the American Hardcore Punk landscape. Scott and Jim were great to talk to, and we cannot thank them enough for sitting down with us. We discuss the film some in the episode, but due to scheduling problems we did not spend as much time on the movie as we would have liked. The interview is great of course, but we wanted also to give the movie a full review. Unfortunately, we got a little distracted so big apologies to Scott and Jim. Suffice to say, we both thought it was great and would strongly recommend seeing it. We were joined this episode by some great friends. If you are a regular listener than you should know Joseph Gervasi from our two episodes with him, but you should know about LOUD!FAST!PHILLY! His project documenting the Philadelphia punk scene, and of course his work with Exhumed Films who we love and dote over like fan boys. Joseph is great, had great questions, and again without his certainty that we could do an interview like this we might not have taken a chance to get it. Thanks so much Joseph for being awesome. We were also joined by one of my musical heros and nicest guys ever, Mike McTernan (Mike DC) of Damnation AD. Mike, being from DC and a musician, was able to add some insight to our conversation, and is just great. Also, if you don’t know Damnation AD get on that right now man. Wrong Evan was also there. SOUND NOTES: We recorded our intro section over the internet so please be patient with the sound, though it did turn out better than it has in the past. During the interview we had issues with one of our Mics not working, so at times sound cuts out some, and you have to strain to hear some of the questions. There was minimal other issues though, and while we continue to be embarrassed by the fact we don’t sound like other fancy podcasts, over all it is not so bad. Finally, Thanks to Federal Donuts for delicious donuts yet again. Technically, Liam paid for them, but if he had hit them up in advance he would have gotten them for free so that is his bad. We hope you brought your vulcan haircuts and white belts for this special San Diego focused episode of the illustrious and jovial CINEPUNX!!! Josh and Liam were given the unbelievable opportunity to interview director Bill Perrine whose new film, Its Gonna Blow!! San Diego’s Music Undergroud 1986-1996 played at PhilaMOCA on January 16th. It was awesome, expect a review from Liam soon. We were joined by Joseph Gervasi of LOUD!FAST!PHILLY! and of course Exhumed Films and his brother Bull who you may know from Policy of Three and if you listened to our episode where we interview Joseph then you know both were instrumental members of the Cabbage Collective, without whom there would be no punk shows in Philly. Not only did Joseph and Bull bring class and gravitas to our otherwise ridiculous dog and pony show, Joseph had the idea to try and make this interview happen in the first place so we owe him a giant thank you! We hope you enjoy this format as we have a few more interview coming up with Joseph and possibly Bull on board. YAY!! We also of course want to extend our gratitude to Bill Perrine. He was gracious and understanding in answering our questions and really a patient interview subject all together. We are wacky dudes but he was a good sport. The film is great, and if you get a chance to see it or are interested in hosting a screening of it, we cannot recommend it enough. You can find him here Ok, that was a lotta links! Of course, we would be remiss not to say a huge thank you and endorsement to our sponsors FEDERAL DONUTS! Being able to offer a guest who doesn’t know us at all delicious coffee and donuts is a huge bonus, so thanks ya’ll!! SOUND NOTES This episode has our first experimentation with recording over the internet, and predictably, it sounds gross. However, it does not sound as gross as it COULD so that is great. The sound during the interview is a little iffy because there were not enough Mics for everyone and there was an excess of background noise. That being said, everything is fine, no major issues. As always, thanks for listening, and please tell your friends and enemies about us!! The post EPISODE 23: INTERVIEW WITH BILL PERRINE, DIRECTOR OF IT’S GONNA BLOW!!! appeared first on Cinepunx.

Josh attempts to take us into deep waters with the question: Why do we like being scared? Liam and Josh fail to give any real answer, but have a sufficiently interesting conversation on how they got into these movies at all.
