The country's most stolen car - the Toyota Aqua - is now costing some as much as $3,000 a year to insure. Motor Trade Association spokesperson, Larry Fallowfield, says in the past couple of years, they've also become the most registered used car here. He says their lack of modern features means they're easier to steal - but owners can give them an upgrade. In this week's episode, Mollie and Jack talk about Fallowfield, the south Manchester neighbourhood that has become a de facto student village for those studying at the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. Local residents, many who have lived in the area for decades, feel like they are being forgotten, and that their local community has been remade to only cater to a transient student population who, ultimately, aren't invested in the area. As it happens, the students agree. And thank you to our sponsor, Glow at RHS Bridgewater, you can find out more here. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

How do you measure quality of life? As researchers across fields discover new drug therapies or disease prevention—in breast cancer as well as other fields—science finds innumerable ways to measure physical results. But what about the social, behavioral, and psychological aspects of cancer care? And how should medical providers discuss such realties with patients? This is just one area of extraordinary impact that Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield has made in medicine. Dame Lesley is professor of psycho-oncology at Brighton & Sussex Medical School at the University of Sussex where she is director of the Sussex Health Outcomes Research & Education in Cancer group. She has been a BCRF Investigator since 2016—the same year she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for services to psycho-oncology.

Today I speak to Tom Fallowfield, founder of Ugli Web Design. As my brother, he was one of the first people I spoke to about my redundancy. His comment, ‘If you work that hard for other people, why don't you work that hard for yourself?' was enough for me to head to Companies House registration page. Here he shares tried & tested experience on pricing, proposals & passwords. Ugli assists SME clients in adopting internet & e-commerce technologies to find the opportunities in this weird new world which we've all suddenly landed in: tom@ugli.hk Tom's advice:There is nothing to be afraid of when becoming self employedYour work ethic can be far stronger for yourself than when working for othersKnow your pricing and don't be too cheap Always put yourself in the customer's shoes, price yourself by value. Think about what value it has to them rather than the cost to you Always know why you're different to the competition & price yourself accordingly Don't win the work at all costs: you'll be on the back foot, the client will treat you accordingly & it will become hard to earn your workload wellAlways ask for feedback, especially on the declined proposalsThe proposal just needs to satisfy the task at hand, it is to win the business & get the client to the next stage, nothing moreDraft your website content before briefing a web designer - it'll save you time & money. Live with it for a little while before contracting it outWhy password security is so important given how many people are trying to hack sites all the time. Do not use dictionary wordsWhy SEO is important to get right to win new business. Inbound links to your content will get promotedWebsite text (not just images) is vital for SEO, but don't overdo the keywords. "Keyword stuffing" will get you penalisedGoogle/Facebook Ads (PPC) is an alternative to SEO: rapid results but can be expensiveDelegating is important, delegate anything you don't love doingHiring people dramatically changes your business immediately. Making these decisions upfront and quickly needn't be scary either and you (probably) won't regret it LinksLastPass the password keeping site that syncs between phone & desktop.
