https://Drive-Radio.com – The Extra Mile (2/28/26) Host: John Rush Guest: Luke Cashman Warranty Calls, Scams & Dealership Pressure—Exposed Are extended warranties protecting you—or protecting dealership profits? In this episode of Drive Radio: The Extra Mile, John Rush and Luke Cashman pull back the curtain on one of the most pressured parts of buying a car: extended warranties versus extended service contracts. What's the legal difference? Who can actually sell a true “extended warranty”? And why do dealerships push these products so aggressively in the F&I office? John explains how the Magnuson-Moss Act protects your right to service your vehicle anywhere—and why you don't have to return to the dealership for routine maintenance to keep your warranty intact. He also exposes the eye-opening profit margins behind extended contracts—some topping 200%. What about those relentless “your warranty is about to expire” calls? How do you know what's legitimate and what's a scam? And when it comes to used cars, does the risk increase? Most importantly, John offers a different strategy: what if you skipped the contract altogether and self-insured instead? Could setting aside $50 a month give you more control—and more peace of mind—than any third-party plan ever could? If you've ever felt pressured in a dealership, worried about repairs, or wondered whether extended coverage is worth it, this episode gives you the tools to decide confidently.
Pool Pros text questions hereWayne goes full soapbox after watching an HGTV/Magnolia renovation show that builds a commercial-style pool using “biofilters” as a chemical-free solution—without ever addressing sanitation, oxidation, or code-required disinfectant residuals. Steve backs him up with real-world field logic: filtration doesn't equal disinfection, and “natural” systems can turn into expensive science projects fast. Then the episode shifts into the Insurance Interlude with Pat Grignon (California Pool Association), digging into warranty claims, liability, how insurance carriers investigate faults, and why documentation (photos/video/notes) protects your business for years.Segment 1 — Wayne's HGTV rant: Biofilters, “natural pools,” and reality TV chemistry (00:00–25:14)Key takeawaysFiltration is not sanitation. Even DE filtration doesn't catch bacteria/viruses reliably because pathogens are below typical filter micron ratings.Biofilters often rely on nitrifying bacteria (Wayne names Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter) that convert:ammonia → nitrites → nitratesWayne's red flag: nitrates feed algae, and there's no easy chemical “undo” once nitrates climb—drain and replace is often the only practical correction.Real-world reality check: if bathers are involved, ammonia shows up (sweat/urine), and you still need an actual sanitizer system. The pool “looked great” on reveal day… but nobody wanted to get in (which Steve jokes is basically the fate of many pools anyway).Wayne predicts the biofilter setup becomes a regret purchase—$15,000 spent before eventually converting to conventional filtration + sanitation.Quoteable moments“Natural pool” = Wayne's eyes bug out.“People want to swim in water, not chemicals… but safe water takes chemistry.”Steve's “pimp my ride but for houses” comparison for the show's projects.Segment 2 — Insurance Interlude w/ Pat Grignon: Warranty work, liability, and documenting the mess (25:14–40:18)What's coveredSteve explains the reality of warranty service: no urgency unless someone becomes the “pain in the ass” pushing it forward.Pat outlines how manufacturers protect themselves:Warranty/service stations often required to carry high insurance limits and endorsements that shield the manufacturer.Waiver of subrogation explained:Normally, your insurer pays then may subrogate (recover) from a manufacturer if a defect caused the loss.Waiver blocks that upstream recovery—so your policy can get stuck holding the bag even when the part was defective.Notable mentionsHGTV / Magnolia Network renovation show: “Building Outside the Lines”Movie drop: True Romance (Hans Zimmer soundtrack, Tarantino script)Brands mentioned in discussion/examples: Hayward, Jandy (AquaLink), Pentair, plus references to warranty stations and commercial systems.Call to action (from the hosts)Got a technical question or topic idea? Tony Gonzalez is the Chairman, Founder, and CEO of Tire Group International (TGI), a global tire distribution and manufacturing company behind Cosmo Tires. His career traces back to a multigenerational tire business rooted in the 1940s, giving him decades of hands-on experience in product development, brand positioning, distribution, and dealer partnerships across the automotive aftermarket.Known for challenging conventional pricing battles, Gonzalez speaks directly about how value tire brands compete, focusing on product confidence, warranties, marketing consistency, and long-term dealer relationships rather than chasing the lowest price. In this episode…Price wars dominate the tire industry conversation, yet constant discounting erodes margins, weakens brand equity, and trains customers to expect cheaper options. Tire dealers face pressure from online competitors, national chains, and aggressive private-label programs that reshape buying behavior.Tony Gonzalez breaks down how value positioning changes the game. Brand trust, warranty support, product innovation, and consistent messaging define how value tire brands compete today. Shops that understand this shift protect profitability, strengthen customer loyalty, and build more resilient multi-location operations. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn: [01:00] Introduction of Tony Gonzalez and his role at Tire Group International[02:37] Family tire business origins and early industry exposure[06:03] Cultural background shaping business mindset and values[10:07] Launch of Tire Group International and development of Cosmo Tires[13:34] How dealers connect with the brand and distribution channels[15:49] Building a value tire brand without competing solely on price[18:03] Warranty strategy and its impact on customer loyalty[20:13] Early warehouse work shaping leadership perspective[24:46] Importance of storytelling, branding, and cultural influence[33:26] Creation of the Kool Kat mascot and brand identity evolutionResources mentioned in this episode:Tony Gonzalez LinkedInTire Group International WebsiteGet in touch with Cosmo TiresTread PartnersGain Traction Podcast on YouTubeGain Traction Podcast WebsiteMike Edge on LinkedInQuotable Moments:“We're a value-driven brand, but we're not in the market of competing solely based on price.”“We give road hazard on all of the products we sell, and we stand behind them immediately.”“The goodwill you get by giving that kind of warranty and guarantee is next to none.”“Know what you're worth and make sure you're not wrong.”“We really take pride in our marketing and how we represent our brand.”Action Steps:Audit tire lines carried in every location and identify where stronger warranty-backed brands improve margins and customer trust.Train service advisors to explain product value clearly; customer confidence rises when the conversation moves beyond price alone.Study how value tire brands compete and apply similar positioning to shop branding, service packages, and customer messaging.Strengthen supplier relationships that provide marketing support, training, and consistent product quality to stabilize long-term growth.Review warranty communication at the counter; transparent guarantees drive repeat business and referral momentum.
The host of episode 108 of Venture Everywhere is Harm-Julian Schumacher, co-founder and CEO of OneLot, a financing platform for used car dealers in the Philippines. He talks with Reto Bolliger, co-founder and CEO of Chaiz, an online marketplace for extended vehicle warranties. Reto shares how climbing Kilimanjaro led him to build a travel company, and how an investor in that business introduced him to the surprisingly profitable world of extended car warranties. He discusses how Chaiz challenges the industry consensus that warranties “must be sold” through aggressive tactics, instead building trust through transparency and offering consumers prices up to 40% cheaper than dealerships. In this episode, you will hear:Building the first online marketplace to compare and buy extended car warranties.Offering dealership products at 40% lower prices through digital channels.Replacing aggressive sales tactics with transparency and education.Leveraging AI for customer support and AI search optimization.Embedding warranty APIs for cross-selling through partner platforms.Learn more about Reto Bolliger | ChaizLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/reto-bolligerWebsite: https://www.chaiz.comLearn more about Harm-Julian Schumacher | OneLotLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/harm-julian-schumacherWebsite: https://www.onelot.ph

As Bryston marks its 50th anniversary, host Jorden Guth sits down with CEO James Tanner for a wide-ranging conversation about where the company came from—and where it's going next. Bryston's roots trace back to medical electronics before the company transitioned into high-performance audio in the 1970s, when Chris Russell began designing amplifiers that would define the brand's reputation. In this discussion, Tanner reflects on Bryston's history, its long-standing commitment to manufacturing in Canada, how and why aspects of the famous warranty have evolved, and what the next 50 years could look like for one of high-end audio's most enduring companies. Along the way, the conversation touches on manufacturing realities, brand recognition, and—inevitably—some Canadian hockey talk. Is buying new construction in the Bay Area actually safer — or quietly riskier than most buyers realize?Join Spencer Hsu, a top 1% Bay Area real estate agent, as he breaks down what most buyers never hear about new construction — and why choosing the wrong builder can cost far more than just upgrades or delays.New homes promise modern design, energy efficiency, fewer bidding wars, and less maintenance. But in a market where brand-new homes regularly exceed $1–3M, not all builders deliver the same quality, transparency, or long-term value. Some excel in craftsmanship and post-close support. Others cut corners, oversell timelines, or leave buyers navigating warranty issues after move-in.In this video, Spencer ranks the most active Bay Area builders based on real client experiences, inspection results, build quality, long-term durability, and post-closing service — not marketing brochures.

We design concrete for 75 years. So why are we okay watching it fail in 12 to 24 months? That's the uncomfortable question Seth Tandett puts on the table with Dr. Jon Belkowitz in this episode. Codes, specifications, and budgets are still written around a 50–75 year design life. But in the field, concrete surfaces are scaling, wearing, and failing in as little as a year or two. Instead of revisiting that original promise, the industry seems stuck reacting to failures instead of asking why they're happening. This conversation challenges some long‑held assumptions about specifications, durability, performance testing, and why compressive strength tells us almost nothing about whether concrete will actually last. This isn't about theory. It's about what's showing up on real projects—and why no one seems willing to talk about the gap between what we design for and what we're getting.WHAT YOU'LL LEARN · Why the 75‑year design life quietly disappeared from industry conversations · How concrete surfaces went from 20–30 year service expectations to failing in 12–24 months · Why compressive strength is one of the most forgiving—and misleading—tests we rely on · What durability indicators actually matter if service life is the goal · How prescriptive specs box everyone in and protect no one · Why performance‑based specifications are the only real path forward · What Peter Taylor's work gets right about protecting the concrete surface · How warranty language misses durability altogether · Why practical field intelligence keeps getting ignoredCHAPTERS 00:00 – Intro and how to support the Concrete Logic Podcast 03:42 – Why we stopped talking about 75‑year design life 06:30 – The disconnect between specs and field performance 08:59 – Why compressive strength doesn't equal durability 12:07 – The industry's reliance on paper over field reality 14:34 – Why specifications need to change 15:22 – Prescription vs performance‑based specs 19:12 – What should actually be specified for durability 21:28 – Using performance tests to enforce accountability 25:22 – Warranty periods and real‑world consequences 28:07 – The concrete surface as the first line of defense 31:30 – What the industry really lost—and how to get it backGUEST INFO Dr. Jon Belkowitz Intelligent Concrete https://www.concretelogicpodcast.com/guests/jon-belkowitz/CONCRETE LOGIC PARTNERS INTELLIGENT CONCRETE Concrete not behaving the way it should? Send us a textEpisode 358: In this episode of The Heavy Duty Parts Report, Jamie Irvine speaks with Bryan Thueson of OptiCat and Moritz Mahler of TecAlliance about the long‑standing challenges in warranty processing across the heavy‑duty parts industry. They explain how manual, inconsistent, and inefficient warranty workflows create high process costs, poor transparency, customer frustration, and inaccurate quality tracking for both distributors and suppliers. Moritz describes how TecCom's standardized digital warranty platform—already widely adopted in Europe—streamlines claim creation, centralizes communication, integrates with ERPs and e‑commerce systems, and reduces claim processing time to under 90 seconds. Bryan highlights the improved customer experience, reduced costs, and better data accuracy that come from adopting a unified system rather than each supplier building their own. New rules aimed at protecting homeowners should be formally introduced next year. The Government's announced plans to require all warranties for new homes three storeys or less, and all renos worth at least $100,000. Building and Construction Minister Chris Penk admits homeowners will pay a bit more, but it's worth it. "It's around half of one percent of the cost of a build, so I think that's a lot of of peace of mind - so I think that's a good trade off for the council not having to be involved in ratepayers being on the hook to the extent that they are now."
