Listen, we know what you're thinking – after 30+ episodes of the Layered Butter Podcast; how do we keep it fresh like a new Tarantino, Spielberg or Aster? After all this time, Rod, Raf and Jordan just generally nerd out, whine or even cry about the general state of film, cinema and pop culture and honestly, we're happy for the opportunity to just be a part of your podcasting world. In this weeks episode of the Layered Butter Podcast, our trio is joined by Podcast greatness, legends and hosts of the longest-running film podcast ever! Frank & Sean of the Film Junk Podcast. They've got over seventeen years (!!!) in the podcasting world honestly, we thought it would be pretty damn cool to talk about how we talk about movies. The Layered Butter Podcast was a pandemic baby (bruhhh) and it was just a great way to stick around and chat about something we all love to do – across different topics from love, unions, film festivals and even genre film…but how do we keep things interesting enough to keep ya'll listening? Raf can only butcher only so many names on-air, Jordan can drop only so many obscure documentaries and Rod….well, he can keep dropping fire emoji hot takes because…yeah. Frank and Sean gives us a deep dive into the world of all things cinema talk – from the absolute strength of the Letterboxd rating system to the strive for authenticity in their on-air personas – I mean, are we all who we really are in a public sphere? Are we, as hosts, self-aware of the personalities we portray ourselves as across the airwaves? The LB Podcast has been running for almost a year and a half now – all done virtually – how does Film Junk adapt to the changes of how people listen to podcasts and how do those changes affect chemistry or even logistics? As much as we can nerd out as a bunch of friends talking about what we love – do we….ever get tired of each other? (of course not ) We learn from the Godfathers of the O.G. film podcast, Film Junk. In addition, Rod, Raf and Jordan chat about the absolute GEM of Nicole Kidman's new AMC ad, the satire of Adam McKay's Don't Look Up and the possibility of Nolan's first blockbuster….bomb? All of this and more in this weeks episode of the Layered Butter Podcast!Preshow:The Satire of Adam McKay's Don't Look Uphttps://variety.com/2022/film/awards/adam-mckay-dont-look-up-succession-1235180567/Nicole Kidman's Viral AMC Adhttps://melmagazine.com/en-us/story/nicole-kidman-amc-commercialShould Video Games only be adapted as Long-Form Series?https://www.theringer.com/2022/2/17/22938034/uncharted-video-game-adaptations-television-netflix-witcherFilm Club:The Goonies (1985)https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089218/Jordan's Recco: All Light, Everywhere (2021)https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13622074/

This week we are joined by Sean and Frank from the long running Film Junk Podcast, and are looking back at Walter Hills 1984 neo-noir cult classic - Streets of Fire . When Raven Shaddock, the a leader of a biker gang steals rock singer Ellen Aim, it's up to her ex-boyfriend Tom Cody and a small band of mercenaries to go an get her back. Starring Michael Pare, Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Amy Madigan and Willem Dafoe. The film, which promised to be "A Rock & Roll Fable" bombed at the box office but slowly became a cult hit. We also take a look at Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain to compare these two rock musicals of 1984. All this and more on Adjust Your Tracking! After a slew of bonus episodes, we return to our regularly scheduled program all the way up until the summer. Film Junk’s very own Sean Dwyer and Frank Knezic return to the show for an energetic conversation about a fascinating filmmaker by the name of David O’Russell. No stranger to controversy but also one of the better directors of screwball-style comedy out there. We focus on the majority of his work including Three Kings and then the award-winning romantic dramedy Silver Linings Playbook. But we also bring up each of his films throughout the entire conversation as expected. During the newly dubbed, “what we watched recently” segment, I review another time loop teen drama called The Map of Tiny Pretty Things while Sean caught up with the action-side of that premise with Boss Level. Frank briefly goes through his recent viewings of The Nutty Professor, Raya and the Last Dragon and Attack Of The Murder Hornets. Lastly, I quickly mention that I couldn’t help but enjoy Soliel Moon Frye’s documentary, Kid 90. As always, it was a complete blast talking to two podcasters who are partially responsible for me getting into podcasting in the first place. 00:00 - 07:08 - Introduction07:09 - 08:25 - What We Watched Song08:26 - 34:25 - What We Watched Recently34:26 - 36:07 - Director Song36:08 - 01:20:44 - Three Kings + Silver Linings Playbook01:20:45 - 01:54:44 - Other O’Russell Films01:54:45 - 02:05:43 - Top 3 O’Russell Films / Outro Share This Episode With Others: http://directorsclubpodcast.com/blog/episode186 Follow Frank On Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/dirrrtyfrank/ Follow Sean On Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/filmjunk/ Subscribe to the great Film Junk Podcast:https://filmjunk.com Check Out Premium Episodes Of Film Junk:https://filmjunk.bandcamp.com

Well, I can't believe, This is 40? One day in and I can already say that it's nothing like that overlong Judd Apatow movie. While waiting for my midlife crisis to commence, I invited my old compadre over to the recording studio for a conversation in the tradition of our old-school bonus episodes! This time, we even play a round of Score Bits, inspired by the one and only Film Junk Podcast. At the top, you'll hear me introduce this joyful birthday present, bookended by songs from my favorite band, The New Pornographers. First up, we catch you all up on how things have been for the two of us, then we review two movies that we assigned to one another. Patrick assigned MANJI for me and I assigned one of my all-time favorites, TAKE SHELTER. After that, Score Bits begins after a brief intermission and that is definitely a highlight for the both of us. We challenge our sense memory, musical knowledge, and more with this wild take on "Name That Tune" revised as "Name That Movie!" As a birthday present for one of the main reasons for the inception of this podcast, please give it a listen and enjoy the rambling digressions you came to know and love back in the day. Brad and Al will return in a week or so with a traditional episode of course! Thank you again to everybody for supporting me over the years and for subscribing to Director's Club & Voices + Visions! 00:00 - 04:20 - Introduction 04:21 - 04:59 - "Sing Me Spanish Techno" - New Pornographers 05:01 - 12:42 - Introduction With Patrick & Jim 12:43 - 01:11:19 - Reviews of MANJI + TAKE SHELTER 01:11:20 - 02:15:19 - Score Bits! 02:15:20 - 02:24:06 - Outro 02:24:07 - 02:25:03 - "Bleeding Heart Show" - New Pornographers http://directorsclubpodcast.com http://nowplayingnetwork.net
