Happy 100th Episode to us! We've made it! And to celebrate this massive milestone, we're kicking off a brand new theme month, Satire September, with a movie that's as fitting for the occasion as it is brilliant: "The Truman Show." We're not entirely sure what having a 100th episode means, but we're excited to celebrate with all of you by talking about a movie that was so far ahead of its time, it's still playing catch-up.This week, we're diving into Peter Weir's prophetic masterpiece. Both of us were honestly shocked by how well this film holds up and how incredibly relevant it still feels today. We'll be dissecting its clever commentary on reality television, surveillance culture, and our collective obsession with voyeurism. We'll also be talking about Jim Carrey's transformative performance and the film's ability to blend humor with genuine heartache. If you're a long-time listener, a new fan, or just someone who wants to revisit a truly classic piece of cinema, then this is the episode for you. We're blending our celebratory mood with our usual casual banter, making this a thoughtful and fun look at a film that feels less like a satire and more like a documentary of our future. Thanks for celebrating 100 episodes with us! And in case we don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night! This episode VIDEO is live on YouTube AND Spotify!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok to get ep sneak peaks and find out what's coming next. Mike goes the safe route and picks one of his favorite movies this week. Jared is not even a little impressed.
On this episode of VIE Speaks: Conversations with Heart & Soul podcast, host Lisa Marie Burwell, VIE's CEO/editor-in-chief, spoke with Grand Boulevard director of marketing, Stacey Brady. The energy in this episode is contagious, and we loved hearing the stories Stacey shared! Lisa and Stacey have been colleagues and friends for a span of close to 30 years. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Stacey worked for SEASIDE®️, Florida, for six years. She recalls it being an exciting time, with The Truman Show having just been released and drawing a lot of attention to Seaside, both nationally and internationally. A recurring theme within Stacey's career is a passion for doing more. She led the way and wrote the submission for Seaside for an Urban Land Institute (ULI) award. The town not only became a finalist, but actually won "Best in Show." Stacey then began working with Grand Boulevard Town Center in Miramar Beach in 2006. After a few hiccups along the way, like the commercial real estate fallout and the BP oil spill in 2009, the vision for the property became a reality with beautiful architecture, shops, restaurants, and exciting events. Stacey was also instrumental in creating the concert venue on the north lawn at Grand Boulevard that has since hosted Darius Rucker in 2012, the 30A Songwriters Festival Main Stage, and other great performances. In this episode, we break down The Truman Show and reveal the terrifying accuracy of its message. We unpack the character of Truman Burbank, the psychological and thematic layers of his world, and how Peter Weir used subtle filmmaking to craft a story about surveillance, media manipulation, and existential dread. We also discuss the genius of Jim Carrey's performance and how the film predicted the influencer age, social media culture, and our obsession with watching others live their lives.Whether you've seen it once or twenty times, there's way more going on in The Truman Show than most people realize.Chapters:00:00:00 The original script was MUCH darker00:19:17 The hard truths of this movie00:29:04 Truman experiences the most brutal betrayal00:34:32 The struggles with the director and Jim Carrie00:37:39 The hints they throw right in your face00:43:42 Breaking down the dads death & the escape00:49:32 Christof and his cruel ways00:55:30 More clues they hide in your face00:57:43 A deep thought about what this movie says01:01:03 Our official rating & review01:05:16 Final thoughts01:07:29 Cue the music
For episode 15 of Pop Apocalypse, we welcome Fryderyk Kwiatkowski, Assistant Professor at the University of Krakow, on to discuss the relationship between ancient Gnostic myth and modern cinema. Fryderyk takes us through the impact European intellectuals Carl Jung, Hans Jonas, and Eric Voegelin on popular conceptions of Gnosticism. Then we dive into analyses of the Gnostic elements in films like the Matrix, Dark City, Truman Show, and more recent cinema like Free Guy, Chappie, and the television series Silo.
Pourquoi devient-on “sauveur” ? In this week's episode of Seismic Cinema, things get weird — fitting for our review of The Truman Show! Colin steps into Truman's meticulously crafted world for the very first time, Paul somehow manages to watch the movie in the wrong order (don't ask), and James may or may not have written a university-level essay on it. Expect a mix of first impressions, philosophical ramblings, and the usual Seismic chaos. We dive into the film's eerie relevance, Jim Carrey's unexpectedly powerful performance, and the big question: what would you do if you found out your life was a TV show? Tune in for laughs, debates, and some Truman-style existential dread!
These sequels are extremely unnecessary, but if we made 'em, people would go and see them. And in this case, some of them would have no choice, because this is one of those pitches where we create a twisted vision of real life, forgetting that we were supposed to make a movie. What happens when we try to gaslight Jim Carrey into thinking he's really Truman Burbank, and lead him to "rediscover" the film set he "escaped" from? Only chaos, really. In this episode of "IPS DEPROGRAM," your host delves into wide array of topics, starting with basic troubleshooting for streaming and reviewing listener comments. The show highlights ongoing challenges with platforms like YouTube, noting instances where live streams were shut down due to false flaggings. One such incident occurred after a comment from "Paradox Moronics" about "Truman Show-like tactics" being experienced in daily life, leading the host to reflect on these "funny coincidence[s]" and "throttling". The host shares personal anecdotes of seemingly orchestrated daily annoyances, like credit card machines screwing up or rude parking, which, while coincidental, hint at a broader awareness of environmental threats and potential paranoia or suggestibility. The discussion moves to the controversial figure Liver King, who has reportedly been arrested in Texas following "unhinged posts" and threats against Joe Rogan. The host describes Liver King's bizarre behavior, including posing with a wolf's head and an automatic rifle, and questions whether the ongoing saga is "scripted theater" or "Cywar," comparing it to World Wrestling Entertainment. A listener notes that "Liver King is almost an anagram of Elvis King", adding to the speculative nature of the persona.Regarding the "Why Aliens Reek" portion of the title, the provided sources do not contain any information or discussion about aliens or why they might reek. The podcast primarily focuses on media fakery, psychological operations, and the manipulation of public perception, often referring to "God constructs" as a new form of monotheism. The episode underscores the pervasive nature of media fakery and psychological operations (PSYOPs). The host asserts that "The power of the lie needs to be emphasized here. Lies are powerful in this world. I call it the lie world order for a reason". This central theme drives the host's mission with the IPS Morning D program: to "deprogram those of us who are paying attention". A key initiative is the development of PSYOP trading cards, envisioned as a "paradigm shifter" to "infiltrating Trutherville with something that they have somehow missed this entire time, which is the truth about media fakery and how deep the rabbit hole really does go". These cards are inspired by the Illuminati trading cards by Steven Jackson and are aimed at a similar collector base, building out sales channels on platforms like YouTube and Amazon. The host introduces the concept of "parallel media", distinguishing the IPS Think Tank from both mainstream and alternative media. "We've created this third branch of media. You've got the mainstream alternative, but now we have a perspective that isn't somewhere in the middle, but it's completely outside of their box that doesn't include in our assessment any of the propaganda lies". This approach is about identifying "the big conspiracy that the conspiracy theorists have missed," which is the "meta-script" that shapes worldview globally.A significant portion of the discussion emphasizes the importance of skepticism and the "fake until proven real" methodology. The host argues for becoming an "informed disbeliever" rather than a low-information believer. When analyzing events presented by media, the approach is rigorous: "If there's any hint of fakery, your assumption must be zero. Assume zero. Assume nothing. But assume a body count of zero". This applies to events like 9/11 and the Kenosha incident involving Kyle Rittenhouse, whom the host views as a "total construct" and a "manufactured hero". Evidence like police interactions during the Kenosha riots and Rittenhouse's connection to Greta Thunberg and the Proud Boys are cited as reasons to suspect the event was a PSYOP.The podcast also addresses "low-information claims" often associated with "Trutherville," such as the belief that animals like pandas or gorillas are fake.

We're really getting into it with the 71st Academy Awards or the films of 1998 in this episode. The IPS evening deprogram, broadcast live on June 9th, 2025, aims to cultivate "informed disbelievers as an alternative to low information belief". The host emphasizes that their goal is not to program anyone, but quite the opposite. The episode covers a range of topics, including:An Incident at the Office: The host recounts an event from the previous night where someone broke a bottom, north-facing window at their office, possibly by knocking over a cement ashtray fixture. While it could have been an accident and no one broke in, the host notes the timing and considers it potentially a message, suggesting the possibility of tampering with their computer or social media accounts. They haven't ruled out anything, including it being a "nothing burger".Critique of Official History and Media: The core philosophy of the deprogram is that a significant amount of news is influenced by "influence operations, psychological operations, and outright fakery simulations and lies". The host asserts that broadcast media is erroneously treated as an objective source, and that news being faked is a method of controlling history by writing it in advance.Predictive Programming and Numerical Patterns: The discussion frequently highlights how current events, like 9/11 and the 3/11/2020 pandemic declaration, were preceded by "predictive programming" and "psychological operations". The host details numerous numerical and symbolic alignments:Trump and Associated Symbolism: Donald Trump is frequently mentioned in relation to the current events and predictive programming:Nature of Reality and "Idol Magic": The host delves into the idea that reality might be a "simulation" or a "video game" orchestrated by a "higher power" due to the "endless, meaningful alignments and coincidences". They dismiss the idea that "man couldn't do this" but suggest a "structural evil" is built into the system. The concept of "idol magic" is explored, where focused attention on objects like phones gives them "life" or energy, potentially making them "soul parasites".The George Floyd Event as a PSYOP: The host analyzes the George Floyd event as a "PSYOP" with ritualistic and scripted elements, emphasizing numerical alignments like 8:46 AM (first plane hit on 9/11) and its connection to the sunset, symbolizing the "dismembering of the sun king". The names involved (Derek Chauvinist/hangman) and visual elements (golden caskets, Covid poster) are also highlighted as part of a symbolic narrative of "oppressor oppressed" class warfare. The factory in Twin Cities producing "hyper-realistic training dolls" that simulated respiratory distress and the "big floppy rubber doll" in the ambulance footage are presented as evidence of staging.Current "Staged" Events and Deepfakes: The episode discusses ongoing riots in Los Angeles against ICE and Trump, characterizing them as "made for TV riots" and "staged". The host critiques mainstream media's portrayal of these events as "mostly peaceful protests". They warn against assuming things are "live or real" due to the prevalence of AI-generated content and recycled videos from 2020, predicting a "summer of deepfakes".The "Truman Show": The host frequently uses the metaphor of the "Truman Show" to describe the collective reality, where people are programmed by default and unaware of the "misinformation floods". The only way to "exit the Truman Show" is to maintain a skeptical and subtractive view. The host also shares personal anecdotes from his past work in mortuaries, contrasting real-life reactions to death with the "acting" observed in televised "crisis actor" events. The episode concludes by emphasizing the consistent patterns and escalation of events according to an underlying script, urging listeners to remain aware and discerning.

Today we bring you another favourite episode from our Apostrophe team. On the eve of The Truman Show's 27th anniversary, our sound engineer Geoff Devine explains why this timeless film is one of his all time favourites and why Carrey's stand up story stands out for him. Jim Carrey is Ace Ventura. He's the Grinch. He's Bruce Almighty. Need we say more? But in 1989, Carrey was getting routinely crucified on stage, rejected for parts and was nearly starving to death – living in a bachelor apartment with a baby basket on the floor. Then one day, he wrote himself a check for $10M for “acting services rendered” – dated five years in the future.Tell us YOUR rejection story, and you may be featured in an upcoming episode:Record your voice: https://speak-to.us/rejectionWrite to us: hello@apostrophepodcasts.ca Hosted on Acast. Jim Carrey gave critics a new view into his talents in the Peter Weir hit, The Truman Show. Back in 1998, the psychological comedy-drama captivated audiences with its unique premise: a reality TV world that “is not fake but controlled.” Yes, we followed dear Truman as he was hoodwinked daily by everyone in his life, all for the sake of ratings. But now, decades of reality TV concepts later, is the movie interesting enough to hold up to today's outrageous standards? Did Meryl and Marlon really kiss their real lives goodbye to live a lie? And why is Christof (Ed Harris) the worst? The Old Roommates set sail for answers and discuss it all through their middle-aged lens. On this episode of The Recommended podcast we are talking about The Truman Show. Brenden and Ryker talk about their favorite Paul Giamatti movie,, and are shocked by how poorly things are being run despite 30 years to get it together. Come join us as we brodcast this episode of The Recommended podcast.
This is Episode 1 of a new series—a series about questioning the nature of our reality. In this series I plan to go deep, diving into the kinds of subjects that make people uncomfortable. And asking the kinds of questions that don't have easy answers. You know… the kind of questions you used to ask as a kid. Before the world told you to stop asking. Before the Matrix took hold of you and stifled your curiosity.Do you remember that? Do you remember when the world felt magical and mysterious, and you just wanted to know how it all worked? Do you remember when you weren't afraid to ask “silly” questions?Well—this series is a call back to those times. In fact, this entire series started with one simple, innocent and dare I say “silly” question…“Where do cows even come from?”And in this first episode, we explore how that one question will lead us down a massive rabbit hole—a rabbit hole that will take us to Antarctica, and make us question the very map of our world, and will even carry us out into the cosmos itself. If you enjoy the show you can buy me a cup of coffee (send a tip): VenmoGet Pine Pollen, Tallow and a NEW HAT - Online StoreSignup for newsletter: Send email to: ayahumero@deeperyougo.com with subject line "I Want In"Podcast gear available at: https://deeper-you-go-the-weirder-it.myspreadshop.com/Feel free to reach out with questions: ayahumero@deeperyougo.comField Guide 9 - WebsiteDeeper you go Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/deeper_weirder/Book: The Self-Sabotage Guide: 9 Behaviors Preventing You from Becoming Stronger, Faster, And SexierThank you all for supporting the show!
In a rare move by Boy Meets World writers, they pulled a storyline straight from the big screen for this Season 6 romp, putting Eric right in the middle of “The Truman Show.” Will can perfectly recall a line from an obscure sitcom from the ‘70s, but has no memory of filming this episode! As a result, the gang unpacks why maybe this one’s been erased from the podcast’s most effective brain. Plus, the return of another character who has a familiar name, alongside an unusual outburst of anger from Alan! And did Will experience breaking & entering or just a breaking of etiquette?
