FAITH By Pastor George Lehman It must be important because without faith we cannot please God! Our FAITH will never rise above the words of our lips. How many times do we speak defeat or negative over our lives. When last did you experience God's nearness, have real intimacy with Him?  Tears fill your eyes as you meditate on Him – when last? What is coming out of your heart – is it faith statements? Without it we cannot please God. Without it we can't protect ourselves either. Ephesians 6:16 – Lift up over all the (covering shield of Faith upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked (one). When you leave an opening, the arrow comes in and the results come out of your mouth. Without it a victorious, successful, overcoming, devil chasing fulfilled life will not be possible. If the disciples who, saw Jesus, touched Jesus, walked with Jesus and experienced all the wonders and miracles - if they had to be spoken to so sternly about their faith, what about you and I? Mark 16:14 (Amp) - “Afterward He appeared to the Eleven [apostles themselves] as they reclined at table; and He reproved and reproached them for their unbelief (their lack of faith) and their hardness of heart, because they had refused to believe those who had seen Him and looked at Him attentively after He had risen [[d]from death].” Hebrews 11:6 (Amp) – But without FAITH, it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him.  For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him (out). Notice the condition in this verse. It does not say that God is the rewarder of everyone but "of those who diligently seek Him." Living faith is direct; it has its foundation in diligently, actively, consistently, and zealously seeking Him in study and prayer and in conforming to His will. If God demands we have faith when it's impossible for us to have faith, then you and I have every right to question and challenge God and His Word. But, if God has placed within our ability and means, and our choice that faith can be produced, and He did, then the responsibility rests with us, whether we have FAITH or not. Luke 22:31-32  -“31 Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to *sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” *Sifting: To see what's really in you Peter If we don't have faith or we don't exercise the faith we have, it's not God's fault – it's our fault. Romans 12:3 – God has given us a measure of FAITH. Going back to the day you received salvation – none of us could ever have been saved if it wasn't for our FAITH. Rom 10:8-9, 10 , 13, 17 Romans 10: 8-10 - “8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”[d] that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. What 3 steps does a person take to receive salvation: (Let me just say this – they are all faith in action steps) Confess Believe Receive For whom is it available?  Verse 13 says  for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  So where did all this FAITH come from to confess, believe and receive? Verse 17:  Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. – by hearing and believing the WORD of God. Titus 1:1 – Paul, a bond servant of God and an apostle (a special messenger) of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) to *stimulate and *promote the FAITH of God's chosen ones and to lead them on to accurate discernment (onderskei) and recognition of and acquaintance with the “Truth” which belongs to and harmonizes with and tends to godliness. *Stimulate = live with excitement *Promote = advance, to a higher position Paul says “Our faith is foundational to accurate living to walk in the TRUTH.  The result will be Godliness or a lifestyle of Holiness. We proclaim we believe but when the “Tire hits the tar”, we seldom mix the Word or our belief with “FAITH”. You see – mere belief is not “FAITH” - even when a man believes in the right God, he might still be “faithless”.   Jack Coe, Jr said: “A person can believe that the true God of the Bible exists until you are blue in the face, BUT, until that belief leads to  Works (Deeds) of OBEDIENCE and TRUST, it's far from biblical FAITH”   The Bible drives this point home: James 2:19 – You believe that there is one God.  You do well.  Even the demons believe and tremble. James 2:17 – So also, faith, if it does not have WORKS (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead). James 2:26 (Msg) – The very moment you separate body and spirit; you end up with a corpse.  Separate Faith and Works and you get the same thing – a corpse. Maybe that's why some of you are experiencing a dead kind of relationship with God? What is FAITH Hebrews 11:1 (LB) – What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead. Children of God, it's high time we start living like FAITH people;  like Jesus is alive in 2025. We can say we know God's Word is right and good and true, but unless we act on the Word by faith, be obedient and reap its results, we will never really know and be victorious or obedient over comers. FAITH in God is simply faith in His WORD. To sum up: Romans 10:17 – FAITH comes by hearing and by hearing the WORD of God. One of the major benefits of reading the Bible, “Gods Word”, is that it teaches us how to respond in FAITH in advance to life's challenges: Dig a well before you are thirsty. Plant a seed before you are hungry. Don't wait until your whole life is turned upside down, to then try make out which way is up. When fear comes, expect the opposite – let FAITH rise up inside you. When symptoms attack your body – expect the opposite.  Have FAITH in God's healing power to touch you. When lack comes in – expect the opposite.  Have FAITH in God's provision to meet your needs – Philippians 4:19 - And it is he who will supply all your needs from his riches in glory because of what Christ Jesus has done for us. When confusion comes, expect the opposite.  FAITH in God's wisdom, peace and comfort. 2 Corinthians 5:7 – We Walk by FAITH and not (feelings) or sight. Poem: Doubt sees the obstacles (FAITH sees the way) Doubt sees the darkest night (FAITH sees the day) Doubt dreads taking a step (FAITH soars on high) Doubt questions: “Who believes?” FAITH answers: “I” We can't just pray for more faith. We must do what the Word teaches us Romans 10:17 – Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the Word of God.

Incentives needed to ease bumpy ride along Electric Avenue

The electrification transition and inflexible EV production quotas are taking a heavy toll on the automotive industry, but buses and commercial vehicles posted their best years since 2008. Will Stirling reports. MTD magazine is unwaveringly positive in its coverage of manufacturing news, but facts are facts: automotive manufacturing is on a downward slide. Combining cars and commercial vehicles (CVs), the UK produced 905,233 units in 2024, -11.8% from 2023, and slipping below the psychologically important one million units mark. Electric vehicles now comprise over one-fifth of all new car registrations, but the EV market contracted by 2.5% to 139,345 units. The bright spots are in the commercial vehicle (CV) and bus markets. Production in the UK rose 4% to 125,649 units, and both buses and CVs have had their best years since 2008. Carmakers face a multitude of challenges to produce both ICE (combustion engine) and EV cars in high volume. Higher energy and material costs, shortage of skilled people and potential tariffs on exports to the US, but the two most significant factors affecting the production of cars are the costly transition to electric and globally softer demand. The government has set onerous targets for the proportion of EVs that car companies make in Britain, from 22% last year to 28% this year – a tall order that experts believe won't happen – and 80% by 2030, after which the ICE car ban kicks in. The problem is that these targets are running ahead of demand. “The targets were set when demand forecasts were much higher; we know there'll be a significant shortfall,” says Professor David Bailey, an automotive business expert at the University of Birmingham. “Car firms are going to struggle to shift that volume of cars without very significant discounting, and therefore losses.” He adds: “Our two biggest producers, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover, will struggle to meet that kind of stretched targets as they get bigger, so they will potentially be fined, and they may well have to buy credits from Chinese all-EV makers who can hit the target. So what a perverse policy that is – that you're subsidising the Chinese and fining domestic manufacturers.” Electric vehicle production and net zero targets have not been intelligently assessed. The government intends to phase out new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, and although the car industry was invited to consult on this in December 2024, many think the target is too early to hit. “The 2030 ban on ICE policy was plucked out of thin air to try to differentiate the UK from the European Union while signalling to investors that the UK is serious about decarbonisation to encourage investment in the UK. But it hasn't worked – because Brexit has made the UK less competitive and attractive, because of high energy costs, and it hasn't worked because we don't have a proper industrial strategy to support that transition,” David says. The government is now consulting on the industrial strategy, but it should have been firmly embedded in 2025 to help hit the 2030 ICE ban effectively. Stimulate demand; cost of electrification bites Demand for electric vehicles needs to be higher. The government has proposed cheap loans for EVs, but it sounds too complicated for the average car buyer, who wants to know the price, not a complex subsidy and loan. And a VAT break on EVs has been proposed, although this is a pro-tax government. “The government's problem is that it has boxed itself in agreeing to continue the fiscal rules that the Conservatives put in place, which I think was a bad mistake all along, and that has limited their room for manoeuvre. The industry wants a fiscal incentive for EVs, which could either be an upfront discount if you buy one or a VAT reduction on purchases and charging, to stimulate demand,” Bailey says. Demand for vehicles aside, car production volumes are also lower because factories spend millions of pounds and months retooling their lines for EV manufacture, affecting their ability to produce. Internalisation of component manufacturing Some tier one and smaller suppliers to UK automotive have gone, due partly to the complications and costs of Brexit. GKN Automotive moved its Birmingham factory capacity to Poland in 2021/2022. A lot of smaller companies have been cut out of European supply chains post-Brexit, and several auto suppliers have struggled or gone out of business, unable to cope with the export and reimport bureaucracy when some components may cross the English Channel several times before being assembled here. In addition, several big carmakers are internalising the manufacture of key components as these companies aim to be more vertically integrated. “Partly, this is in reaction to the semiconductor crisis where firms were caught out,” says David Bailey. “For example, Jaguar Land Rover will be making its new electric drive train in-house, probably at the i54 plant. Previously, for internal combustion engine cars, JLR would have bought the drives from GKN Driveline, but it is internalising it. We are seeing that shift broadly as well.” A good example is Nissan's partnership with battery company AESC, which supplies directly to Sunderland. This year, Nissan is expected to open a new 360m long, 23x football pitch-sized battery gigafactory in Sunderland. When operational, it will employ over 1,000 people and deliver a sixfold increase in UK electric vehicle battery production. The plant is basically an extension of Nissan's car factory, a tier-one supplier part-owned by Nissan right next door. Pay attention, subbies: Bus bonanza Deliveries of new buses, coaches and minibuses reached a 16-year high in 2024, with 8,390 new units hitting the UK's roads (total buses produced were higher due to healthy exports). Demand rose across the three main segments: minibuses, single-deckers and double-deckers, with minibuses posting 102.5% year-on-year growth. Zero emission is the main story in buses, and the UK is still Europe's biggest zero-emission bus market, with deliveries up by more than a third in 2024. As of 2023, Ballymena-based bus manufacturer Wrightbus reported a turnover of £283.4m, a significant 71% increase from £163.3m in 2022. Despite this, profits in 2023 were negative, probably reflecting the big investment in transitioning to net zero powertrains and new tooling. Wrightbus exemplifies the switch to zero emissions. “Alongside our market-leading EV bus, 95% of all buses produced by Wrightbus in Ballymena are now zero emissions – a marked change on 2019, when 95% of all orders were for diesels,” said Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Wrightbus, when unveiling the new Streetdeck Hydroliner Gen 2.0 hydrogen-powered bus on 20 February. Wrightbus says production will increase to 1,200 this year and then again to 1,400 in 2026 – a record in the company's proud history of bus manufacture. Dozens of suppliers from across the UK and Europe visited the Wrightbus factory in February to hear how the firm's continued growth will act as a shot in the arm for the manufacturing sector, with the expected creation of up to 1,000 new supply chain jobs in the next two years. When will car making recover? Industry body The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders forecasts vehicle production to fall further in 2025 (cars and light vans to 839,000 units in 2025). Still, it adds that while the EV transition is affecting production, this will be temporary. While the volumes of all electrified technology cars were down 20.4% in 2023, with more than £20 billion worth of investment announced in 2023 and a further £3.5 billion in 2024 to support the UK's transition, the decline will be temporary; the SMMT stated in February. Car and light van output will increase to circa 930,000 units by 2027, it says. However, potential tariffs from the US are a real threat (second biggest UK car export market), and the lingering cost of living crisis affects EV sales. “Charging at home overnight is cheap but can be 10 times the cost at some public charging points. Plus there is 20 percent VAT at a charging point, but just five percent at home – so the one third of people who have no ability to charge at home will struggle with the transition,” says David Bailey. And while the Dept for Transport has said it is on track to install the target 300,000 charging points by 2030, many people have range and charging speed anxiety, so much more PR is needed to persuade a cash-strapped, conservative public to go electric.

On today's episode of The Wholesome Fertility Podcast, I dive into the fascinating world of cold plunges—a trending wellness practice that seems to be everywhere lately. I explore the science behind cold exposure, its incredible health benefits like boosting mood, metabolism, and reducing inflammation, and how it impacts fertility for both men and women. Drawing on both scientific insights and Traditional Chinese Medicine perspectives, I share practical tips on how to use cold plunges mindfully and discuss when and how they might be most beneficial. Whether you're curious about trying a cold plunge or wondering how it fits into your fertility journey, this episode offers a balanced and intuitive approach to this powerful practice.   Takeaways   Cold plunges boost mood, energy, and metabolism by activating the sympathetic nervous system. Brown fat activation improves metabolic health and insulin sensitivity. Helps regulate testicular temperature for male fertility but may lower testosterone levels. Reduces inflammation, improves circulation, and supports metabolic health for female fertility. Best done during the follicular phase, not during menstruation. Alternating cold and hot exposure stimulates yin and yang balance. Limit to once a month to avoid creating a "cold" pattern or energy depletion. Pay attention to how your body feels; avoid if it feels draining. May benefit those with PCOS or insulin resistance. Pair with heat exposure for a balanced effect. Avoid overdoing extreme temperature practices for fertility balance.   Research on cold plunges:  https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3895006/#:~:text=Cold%20exposure%20increased%20metabolic%20rate,in%20body%20weight%20or%20adiposity   https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33764169/   https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9518606/   https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1890772/   For more information about Michelle, visit: www.michelleoravitz.com   The Wholesome FertilityFacebook group is where you can find free resources and support: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2149554308396504/   Instagram: @thewholesomelotusfertility   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewholesomelotus/     Transcript:     [00:00:00] Welcome to the Wholesome Fertility Podcast. I'm your host, Michelle Orbitz, and today we're going to be talking about a hot topic, but it's not so hot. We are talking about cold plunges and you may have heard about the benefits. It seems to be, again, a hot topic, something that you see many people talking about. You see lots of influencers getting to cold plunges. You see them popping up in all kinds of spas. So I wanted to talk about the benefits and not just the benefits, but if they are good for fertility, I often get the question asked by my patients and my fertility clients. So let's dive in.  So, let's talk about the science behind cold plunges, really what they do to the body and what they really are. So cold plunges is really going into very, [00:01:00] very cold water, like ice water for a short amount of time. So it could be 30 seconds, it could be up to a few minutes, which honestly I could never do a few minutes of it, but it's really just immersing the body in very cold water and then coming out. Obviously you don't want to stay too long because that's not healthy either. And what that does is it actually activates your sympathetic nervous system, which is the fight or flight response. And when that happens, it actually like stimulates the body and a surge of beta endorphins and noradrenaline occur, and that can impact your energy, it can impact your mood, it also activates brown fat tissue and increasing metabolism, so many different health benefits can occur, and that includes increasing metabolic rates, so It can force the body to work harder to maintain its core temperature, and then what it also does is it forces [00:02:00] the blood to go inwards so that the heat is protected and the blood goes towards your organs. It's also shown to help with insulin sensitivity, so it can improve your response to insulin. And since it helps with metabolism, it can also help with weight management. I personally have done cold plunges in the past, and I will say that it has a very relaxing impact on my body. , not relaxing when you're doing it. Absolutely not. It's very, very stressful actually. And you can feel stressed when you're doing it. And it also causes you to breathe really fast. and it causes, you could definitely feel the stress. So when you're going through that, you're obviously going through some stress cause your body's not used to taking that temperature. But then after you get out, you start to feel the endorphins and you start to feel really relaxed. When I have done it, I've done it in a spa setting where you can [00:03:00] do the cold plunges and then you can go into a warm environment and then go back and forth a couple of times. So what that could do is it actually from a Chinese medicine perspective, what I see it as is that you are forcing yin and yang. mechanism in your body by doing that, it actually wakes up that yin and yang response in the body. And it forces you to go from really cold to really hot to really cool to really hot. And what that can do is when you're forcing that dial, that your body's going to start to regulate itself. It almost instigates or It prompts the body to regulate itself and create balance. There have been a lot of studies that have been published, and it has been found to show lots of health benefits, including health and mood, cardiovascular health. So it definitely seems to be beneficial overall for the health. Now, when it comes to male fertility, the idea is, is[00:04:00] that temperature is really important and it plays a very, very important role when it comes to the testicles. And sperm production requires a temperature of about 3. 6 to 7. 2 degrees Fahrenheit lower than the core body temperature. And this is why the testicles are located outside of the body. So you may have often heard that for male fertility, it's important that they don't heat up the testicle area. So many times people will say not to go into spas or saunas or steam rooms and to avoid hot tubs. And that is the reason why is because having that high temperature is going to cause issues with the sperm production. But it also is the reason why a varicose cell impacts sperm health is because the varicose cell is basically a varicose vein, a vein that's [00:05:00] expanded in the testicular region. for your attention. And where there's blood, there's heat. So because it's expanded, there's more blood volume and that blood volume creates more heat around that area, which impacts sperm production. So the thought is, is that , cold plunges can also maintain the optimal temperature for sperm production by lowering the temperature of the body. However, what's been shown in some cases is that cold stimulation actually decreases testosterone levels by sometimes up to 10%. Is something to definitely consider. So the question is, should you as a male start to do cold plunges or should you just avoid heat and that is. definitely something to consider. So  When it comes to female fertility, we know that other benefits are reduced [00:06:00] inflammation for cold plunges, stress reduction, improved circulation, metabolic health. So these are all things that can definitely benefit female fertility. , Now, my thing is, is that I would not suggest to do this all the time if you were to do it. I think that doing it once in a while, maybe once a month, and then also including some, heat exposure for women back and forth, just once in a while to reset the system of the body probably won't hurt. And if anything, it might activate the body and create a more calm response in the body. And as I always say, it's really important to listen to your body. Ultimately, when you feel good, you feel good. it is your body speaking to you and communicating that whatever you're doing makes it feel good. So it is important to follow that. However, if you feel more fatigue, more drained, then your body's telling you maybe don't do it too much. I [00:07:00] personally think because it is an extreme type of stimulation, it might be best to Do this more of a once in a while thing, so no more than once a month, and it might be beneficial to do it once a month because you are stimulating , the yin and yang response for a female body, and you're also possibly lowering inflammation for both male and female. However, doing it more, could also impact having too much cold in the system and I often talk about this in general, that with female fertility specifically, it's important to keep a warm womb and to also not put your feet on cold tile. I always talk about drawing up cold. Now that is also a chronic thing. So doing this all the time. Is a different story than to do it really quickly and then you're right out and then your body has enough time to [00:08:00] regulate so that you're not really doing this chronically and you're not creating like a cold pattern from this quick exposure. So there's a difference between doing something habitually and chronically versus doing something for a quick exposure. It also might help for specific conditions. So my thought would be based on the fact that it lowers inflammation, And of course, again, there's not a lot of studies on this. So this is just really my perspective on it. The fact that it lowers inflammation and the fact that it can increase metabolism and increase insulin sensitivity, I would say it may benefit anybody who's a little more overweight or has PCOS with insulin sensitivity or insulin resistance. So I would say why not try it out, try it once and then don't do it like too many times, too much[00:09:00] repetition. I would definitely try it like about once a month just to get things stimulated. I would also say that I would avoid doing this during the menstrual cycle. I would do this only in the follicular phase after the bleed before ovulation. That would be the only time that I would suggest doing this  for women. I would also listen to your body and not overdo it, not stay too long inside the cold plunge especially if it's your first time and you're not used to it. So, test it out. But again, isn't something that I suggest doing on a regular basis. And similarly, I would say the same thing with hot yoga. Hot yoga is great once in a while in moderation, especially if you tend to be something called yin deficiency, you find that your fluids are low, you tend to be more dry, your skin is dry, and you're thirsty a lot. I would definitely suggest,[00:10:00] not to do hot yoga all the time. And I would say I would only suggest it once in a while.  If you have a strong constitution that is able to withstand the heat and not get fully, fully depleted for those individuals, I would definitely say once in a while to do hot yoga if it really relaxes you, that's okay. My concern is not to get too depleted by extreme heat or extreme cold. And so it's important to really consider that when you're trying to conceive, you don't want to overdo anything and cause too much stress on the body. A little stress is okay. That's actually normal and it actually helps your body to get stronger. But you just don't want to overdo it. So it really, a lot of this is intuitive. A lot of it is common sense. A lot of it is really paying attention to your body and your body sensations and what your body's telling you. So that is my two cents on the cold plunges. I know this [00:11:00] is a little shorter of an episode compared to what I usually do, but , I felt like it was an important thing to address because it does seem to be a topic that comes up a lot as of late so Those are my thoughts on it. I definitely think it can Stimulate that yin and yang balance by forcing the body. Sometimes that's okay, but you just don't want to do this all the time. So I hope that helped you answer your questions if that was on your mind. And I want to say thank you so much for tuning in today, and I hope you have a beautiful day.

Dr Michael Lange and Dr Susan Summerton discuss how new science is proving a low carb diet may not be as healthy as we once thought. Ketogenic diets and carnivore diets that stimulate the body to burn fat for fuel instead of glucose may cause accelerated cellular aging. The doctors discuss how important healthy carbohydrates from the correct source are for overall health. They also both agree that for weight loss it is much better to watch calories than carbohydrates. Dr Lange mentions the development of a new advanced meal replacement called Fortifeye Fit Meal that is in the development phases now. Fortifeye Fit Meal will be a combination of egg white protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, fruits and vegetables, probiotics, prebiotics and enzymes along with organic mushrooms and a fat metabolizer complex. This new FIt MEal is in the developmental phases now and will be available before the summer of 20025. Dr Lange discusses the powers of a super fruit called Pomegranate. He states that some specific polyphenols in pomegranate stimulate the production of urolithin a in the gut. Urolithin a has some amazing anti-aging and wellness benefits. Fortifeye will use a powerful pomegranate extract in the new Fit Meal to gain these valuable benefits. Dr Lange and Dr Summerton reveal the science behind grass fed non denatured whey protein and glutathione. Covalent bonded cystine in whey is one of the best ways to stimulate glutathione and stimulate muscle growth and strength. They continue the 30% off the Fortifeye Vegan Super Protein for one more week. They go over some nutritional pearls and hacks that tell you what fruits and vegetable not to mix and which ones not to eat unless organically grown. They also discuss a new drug delivery system for chronic eye allergies called Dextenza that they now offer at the Lange Eye Institute Both doctors discuss important steps to alleviate dry eye naturally and then discuss amniotic membranes for dry eye. Healthy Looks Great on You
Is Dementia Really Preventable?

Healthy Looks Great on You

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 27, 2024 24:13

Is dementia really preventable? The answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no. There are some things we can control and other things we cannot, but  groundbreaking research shows that up to 40 percent of dementia cases might be preventable through lifestyle changes.  That's nearly half of all cases that could potentially be delayed or avoided. In today's episode, we'll explore the science behind daily habits that can protect your brain health. We'll separate fact from fiction about dementia and examine the latest research and most importantly, share practical tips you can take today to reduce your risk. Whether you're concerned about your own cognitive health or caring for a loved one, this month long series will give you lots of information, motivation, and inspiration regarding brain health. And what could be more important than saving the brains.   But first, let's do a quick mini medical school review about dementia and Alzheimer's. Today's focus will be on Alzheimer's disease because it accounts for 60 80 percent of all cases of dementia.  There are currently over 6 million people in the United States who are 65 or older who have Alzheimer's disease. It is the 6th leading cause of death in this country, but it moves up to number 5 if we're talking about older Americans.  Over the last 20 years, the incidence has increased by an alarming One hundred and forty five percent. Wow. So, what causes it? Well, that's a good question, and there isn't a clear answer. One way to think about dementia is to think about the way other organs fail, like heart failure and kidney failure. Dementia is, quite simply, brain failure. Now, the brain is made up of neurons, which are nerve cells, and those are found throughout the body. In the brain, these cells are responsible for complex connections and communication, and that enables us to think, smell, talk, see, hear, remember, make decisions, plan, and move our bodies. And with dementia, these cells start to die, and the brain begins to shrink.  But listen, brains typically begin to shrink around age 30 or 40 in perfectly healthy people. Then it ramps up around age 60, even more after age 70. We call this shrinkage atrophy, and to some degree it is normal.  But the good news is that we have some reserve to the tune of about 100 billion nerve cells, 100 trillion synapses, which are the connections between nerve cells and a whole bunch of neurotransmitters, Which are the chemicals that go between nerve cells to make communication possible. So, this network has some resilience even when there's an overall loss of brain volume. However, Alzheimer's is not normal atrophy. The brain shrinks at an accelerated rate. And no one knows for certain what happens inside the brain of people affected by Alzheimer's disease. But the two most notable things are plaques and tangles. If you've never seen it up close and personal, you may envision someone who doesn't know how to get around and can't remember your name. But, it's not really like that at first, and it's tricky. It's not uncommon for family members and close friends to get a little concerned about someone's mind, then see times of brilliance and you think, Oh, everything's fine. So, This visual of tangled neurons really helps us understand that. Sometimes you're brushing your hair and everything's smooth and then sometimes you hit a mess and the brush gets hung up.  These tangles interrupt the transport system in the brain. And it's thought to be related to the Tau protein. The other process that seems to contribute to Alzheimer's is plaque.  Now, When I say the word plaque, you may think of the dental hygienist prying your mouth open and picking at that buildup on your teeth. The plaques on your teeth are made of tartar, but the plaques in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease are made of beta amyloid. And these are just sticky pieces of protein that come from the fatty membrane around the nerve cells. And things that stick together clump together, and these form plaques. And it blocks cellular communication.  On top of that, there's an immune response where inflammation causes cells to just be gobbled up.  There are going to be some great resources to better understand this process.  I'm going to put all of this together for you and send it out every Friday this whole month so you have all these resources at your fingertips. And of course, if you aren't on my email list. You should be. You can sign up so you don't miss it. Now that you have an overall understanding of Alzheimer's, let's get back to prevention. When we look at the research, we divide the risk factors into two buckets, modifiable and non modifiable. We're going to focus on the modifiable. Simply put, it's things you can control versus things you cannot. And this might be a really good time to recite the serenity prayer. Lord, help me to change the things I can. And accept the things I cannot.  Today, we will focus on what we can change. And I'm going to give you a quick list of known contributing factors for dementia. And this is not a complete list and these are not your practical steps, but I think this is good information for you to have before we really get started. Number one, diabetes, and it's way more prevalent than you might think.  Next is midlife, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, midlife obesity, smoking, physical inactivity, poor diet, which is the standard American diet, stress, and lack of quality social connectedness.  Notice there's a strong correlation between things that affect heart health and things that affect brain health.  We often don't think of heart disease or dementia as being reversible. But what if,  what if, that's a question that deserves an answer. What if it's preventable and what if it's reversible? Dr. Dean Ornish addressed that question in the 70s for heart disease. And in June of this last year, he released a small research study showing reversal of cognitive decline.  Let's pause for a minute and let that sink in. Not only is evidence showing that 40 percent of dementia is preventable, but now we have some evidence that at least in some people and to some degree, It's reversible. And if that doesn't motivate you, I don't know what does. Now, this study was promising, but small. We're going to dive into the details in an upcoming episode in this series, but we're also going to look at information published by a reputable medical journal called the Lancet Commission, as well as recommendations and facts from the World Alzheimer Report, the National Institutes of Health, or NIH, and the Alzheimer's Association. If you're interested in more information. , I'm going to put together a list of helpful resources, and some of them have some really cool visual tools where you can tour the brain. There's a link in the show notes to sign up for my email, or just go to my website, www. healthylooksgreatonyou.com There's some great resources for you there, and episodes on diabetes and hypertension, because those are also contributing factors.  And if all of this does motivate you to make lifestyle changes, as a bonus, you can sign up for a free mini course that I put together to help you work through making healthy habit changes. It's called seven day kickstart to healthy habits, but let's jump to the bottom line to quote the World Alzheimer's report 2024. "There is no magic bullet for dementia, but there are tangible steps big and small that individuals can take to reduce risk. And any step is better than doing nothing."   So let's look at those any steps.  There were nine risk factors that were identified to be modifiable, meaning you can change them, but they've added three more for a total of twelve. I've divided them up into eight steps. Step one is literally a step, and that's physical activity. Any activity is better than no activity. And I would also say, the more, the better. Aim for at least 30 minutes a day to promote blood flow to the brain, which feeds your brain by delivering oxygen and nutrients. Most experts have focused on aerobic exercise, which is getting your heart rate up. So, while it's great to walk three miles a day, if you aren't huffing and puffing just a little bit, But you probably aren't getting the maximum benefits. High intensity exercise can optimize the environment for creating new connections between neurons in the brain by releasing something called brain derived neurotropic factor or BDNF. This is a warrior in the brain that goes to battle to fight cognitive decline.  More recently, strength training is being emphasized, especially quad strength. The muscles in the legs are some of the biggest in the body. According to "The Brain Docs", Dr. Aisha and Dean Shirazi, research has consistently shown that leg strength correlates with enhanced cognitive function. And on top of that, strong legs means less falls as we age and falling is associated with all kinds of bad things besides bruising and breaking bones.  Another area that is currently being studied is called combined cognitive physical interventions. I'm going to talk more about this later, but it refers to activities that force you to use your muscles and brain at the same time. Now the studies are not conclusive, but the concept is that if you challenge your brain while exercising, you get more benefit. Some people call it exergames, but think dancing, tai chi, virtual reality games, walking and recall, such as memorizing scripture while you walk. That's something I really enjoy because it's also outside in nature, which is a great stress reliever. And the instructor at the gym where I go comes up with all kinds of things to make sure our brains are being challenged in our circuits class.   And speaking of moving, let's move on to step number two.  You probably knew this was coming, but the next step is diet. And of course, the big question is always, which diet? Let me just cut to the chase and tell you that lifestyle medicine promotes a whole food plant predominant diet. That means cutting out processed foods, especially ultra processed foods, and eating instead whole foods. You know, the way God designed them instead of the way food manufacturing industry packages them. And yes, I know it's expensive and confusing and I talk about that in other episodes, but if you want to protect your brain, you've got to nourish it and nutrients come from food. The more the food resembles the way it exists in nature, the more nutrients it contains. And that seems simple enough, but what does research and evidence tell us exactly? Well, Dr. Ornish says, whole food, minimally processed, plant based diet is best. for preventing and reversing dementia. And listen, his program is intense. The American College of Lifestyle Medicine says we should limit the amount of sugar and saturated fats. And make sure to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. The World Alzheimer's Report tells us to diversify the food groups you consume and avoid ultra processed foods. In fact, we always say, eat the rainbow. That means different foods with different colors and that provides the different nutrients that we need. And, by the way, when we talk about foods with different colors, we're not really talking about Fruit Loops, regardless of whether or not they contain dyes. Listen, junk food is junk food whether it's brightly colored or pale.  So what kind of diet? We're talking about diets that are rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats. Those are all associated with better brain health. The Mediterranean diet is a classic example. The Mediterranean diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fish, and healthy fats, and has been consistently linked to lower rates of Alzheimer's disease.  And the MIND diet is a combination of the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet, which is used to treat and prevent hypertension. And it has also been shown to reduce dementia by as much as 53 percent. I have a separate episode on that.  If you actually read the list of 12 modifiable risk factors, it doesn't specify diet, but instead includes maintaining a healthy weight and diabetes. And both of those are directly related to diet.   Step number three is don't smoke. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this one because fortunately most people don't smoke. That's one of the reasons that the rates of heart disease and stroke are decreasing. However, marijuana use is skyrocketing and we are starting to see evidence that it can increase the risk of heart attack by four fold. And I imagine as this trend plays out, we'll see more and more negative effects. On top of that, air pollution has been linked to dementia. Now, I do have an episode on smoking cessation with some helpful resources. I'll link it in the show notes. You can find it on my website, but suffice it to say that anything that damages blood vessels damages the heart and the brain. Smoking contributes to cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and stroke. And is clearly a risk factor for dementia. Hypertension is independently listed as one of the 12 modifiable risk factors and so is a high LDL cholesterol.   Step 4 is meaningful social interaction. We need people in our lives. Ideally, we could combine all these measures together. Eat your meals with people. Exercise in a class. Stimulate your brain with games that involve another person. There is strong evidence that links social connectedness to overall health in general and brain health in particular. Not only that, the one thing that is the strongest indicator for both happiness and longevity is It's social connectedness.  I have a couple of episodes on loneliness. The latter focuses on mood and it turns out that depression is also a risk factor for dementia.  To be honest, it's hard to know the difference or which came first,  but it's clear that loneliness is linked to poor health outcomes in general. Step number five is stay mentally active. Now, people with less education to begin with have an increased risk of dementia. But that doesn't mean that once you graduate, you can stop there. Be a lifelong learner. And this doesn't just mean to sit around and do brain teaser puzzles, although there may be some benefit to that. But there's clearly benefit in learning new things, especially hard things. Challenging your brain helps create new connections, and new connections help maintain reserve during the aging process. Learning a new language is probably one of the best things you can do to challenge your brain. But it's hard. Memorizing is another good thing, and I cannot tell you how much memorizing scripture has meant to me personally. Not only for brain health, but for spiritual health.   Number six is just protect your body.  Pay attention to your overall health, that includes your teeth, but specifically protect your noggin. Head injuries are associated with an increased risk of dementia. I'm going skiing this month and I will be wearing a helmet, but also make sure your home is safe. Rugs can be a hazard, so can puppies and bathtubs. Remove clutter and cords so you don't trip.   Other things that fall under protect your noggin are hearing aids. You see, when sound enters your ears, it goes to your brain for processing. And when you can't hear well, those parts of your brain start to shrink. Wearing hearing aids may help prevent dementia. And more recently, research has also found an association between vision loss and dementia, likely for the same reasons. So, maximize those inputs to your brain through your eyes and ears and protect your head.   One of the most common causes of traumatic brain injury is car accidents. Two of the biggest factors associated with motor vehicle crashes are alcohol and sleepy driving.  So, step number seven is avoid excess alcohol. Previously, evidence indicated that one to two drinks a day was considered safe and maybe even protective. Admittedly, people who live in blue zones often consume red wine on a regular basis. And if you aren't familiar with blue zones, I'll have an upcoming episode, but basically, It refers to five geographic areas in the world where people routinely live to be over 100 years old with vim and vigor.  Only one of them is in the United States. It's in Loma Linda, California. There's a large population of people there who belong to the seventh day Adventist faith in that part of the country. And their lifestyle is marked not only by faith, but also strong social ties, a vegetarian diet, time in nature, and no tobacco, and no alcohol. Regardless, there is an alarming trend of increasing alcohol consumption, and excess alcohol is clearly linked to dementia. For more on alcohol, I included a previous episode link in the show notes. There is no controversy in the literature that two drinks a day is the limit. Quitting is hard, but And I've included some resources on my website.  Lastly, step number eight is sleep. I know, I know I said there were 12 modifiable risk factors. Thank you so much for paying attention. I will list them out, one through 12 in my newsletter. But for this episode, I grouped them together.   In a recent episode, I called sleep the mood mechanic. But the brain repair work that goes on during sleep is so much more than mood. Poor sleep is associated with so many of the risk factors for dementia, like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, and obesity.  Poor sleep, especially in late midlife, is associated with an increased risk of dementia. And if this is an area where you struggle, you will be glad to know that I have an entire series on sleep coming up next month with lots of great resources. Some of them are already on my website so hop on over there and snag them.  The Lancet Commission states that "Our new life course model and evidence synthesis has paramount worldwide policy implications."  And they conclude by saying, "It is never too early and never too late in the life course for dementia prevention." So, no matter how old you are and what your risk factors are, prioritize your physical health and your brain health because healthy looks great on you.  RESOURCES: Join the email list for all the resources Preventing Cognitive Decline Practical tips for caregivers and friends of people with dementia How to prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes Control your blood pressure How to quit  Sleep - the mood mechanic Kickstart Healthy Habits in 7 Days The deadly epidemic of loneliness From loneliness to belonging Which diet is healthiest?         The information contained in this podcast is for educational purposes only and is not considered to be a substitute for medical advice. A severe warning aimed to stimulate love and good deeds

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement

The encouragement today is somewhat negative and severe, but it has the same aim as the previous verses, namely to stimulate love and good works for the glory of God. Hebrews 10:26-27 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire that will consume the adversaries. Before we can understand verses 26-31, we need to consider what the author has already said. The sin he warned his readers about was unbelief. “Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God” (3:13). And again in 3:19, “So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.” He told them of a promised rest from God that has been provided in Jesus Christ as their high priest. That rest is the throne of grace, where Jesus had entered in with His blood to redeem them and bring them to God. Since they had a great high priest who could sympathize with their weaknesses and who had been tempted as they had been, he encouraged them to continually draw near to the throne of grace where Jesus sits as their intercessor and source of mercy and grace. In chapter 5, he showed them how Jesus received suffering well, drew near to His Father for grace, and did good rather than evil. He told them the mature have been trained by practice in suffering to discern good and evil.  In light of what God has done through Jesus for His people, to not draw near to God for help is a willful sin. He has loved us by perfecting us in Christ, once and for all, and He has provided His grace to us. The only reason for not drawing near to receive grace to trust God and love with Jesus can only be because we don't believe what God has said and done. If we have received the truth that Jesus' sacrifice for sins has satisfied God's justice and have the testimony of the Holy Spirit before us, then our sin is willful rather than ignorant. The one who willfully refuses to draw near to God for grace to trust and love has rejected Jesus Himself. God has provided no other sacrifices since Jesus' sacrifice finished the work. All that remains for such an adversary of Jesus and righteousness is a terrifying expectation of judgment. God's judgment will rage against His adversaries like the fury of a fire that consumes everything in its path.  Notice the “for” at the beginning of verse 26. That connects these thoughts to the previous admonition to consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds. This very serious warning was given in love as a powerful stimulant for those who were drifting away, abandoning the call to live to love with Jesus. It was a call to repent of willfully rejecting Jesus and His call to love while they still had time to be fruitful. I close today's encouragement with this thought. We are going to be consumed—one way or another. Either we will be consumed by the love of God or by the fury of God's fiery judgment. If you know God has provided His Son to live for you and you reject His grace because you want to live for yourself, you sin willfully. There's no hope in rejecting Jesus' sacrifice and provision of grace. Please repent today. But if you hold fast to the confession of your hope in Christ, you will not be disappointed when you finish your race and stand in the judgment. His blood will cover all your sin, and His righteousness will have been the fountain of your love and good works. God will be glorified either way, but your experience of His glory is determined by your intentional obedience to the truth.

Hebrews 10:24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, We come today to the third admonition from the author based upon our confidence in Christ as our great high priest and in His blood shed for us. Let us draw near to God. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering. And now thirdly, let us consider or contemplate how to stimulate or provoke one another to love and good deeds.  First, since we have been so loved by God as to be given 24/7/365/forever access to the throne of grace, let's think about ways we can encourage each other to love like we've been loved. That was Jesus' parting command to His disciples. “Love one another as I have loved you,” He said. This love is agape love—doing the highest good for one another.  Why should we consider “how” or “the way” to stimulate one another to love? Every person is different. The way to love one person may not be the way to love another person. What stimulates one person may not encourage someone else. We need to think about how to love each person uniquely. The only way that is going to happen is if we draw near or abide in Christ. We need His wisdom, love, discernment, and knowledge for how best to love each person He puts in our paths. It's not a one-size-fits-all kind of love. So be encouraged today to think about how Jesus wants to love each person you meet. Draw near. Ask for help. Listen. Then speak words that will encourage them to live to love with Jesus.  Second, the Christian lifestyle is to be characterized by love and good deeds. It's the proof that we are His disciples (John 14:35; 15:8). The Holy Spirit must have really put this on the mind of the apostle Paul when he wrote to Titus. Titus 2:7 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. Titus 3:8 This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men. Titus 3:14 Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful. We are encouraged in Heb. 10:24 to not only be engaged in love and good deeds but to stimulate one another to live that way. This verse is one of many verses that moved me to produce the Live to Love Scripture Encouragements podcast. Each day as I study the Scriptures, I draw near to the throne of grace through Jesus Christ, expecting the Holy Spirit to give me grace to love you well and stimulate you to love and good deeds for the glory of God. I have not been disappointed in this hope that God will give me what I need to connect every Scripture in some way to living to love with Jesus. I've gone through John's gospel, 1-3 John, Romans, and now Hebrews. Consider how you might stimulate your friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, and family members to love and good deeds by listening to this podcast daily and sharing it with them. Also, please encourage them to visit livetolovewithjesus.com and get or give Live to Love: Experience Freedom and Joy in Relationships or spiritofelijah.com, where they can also get or give Equipped to Love: Building Idolatry-free Relationships. These are some ways you can consider to obey Heb. 10:24.

Dr. Berg’s Healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting Podcast

A stem cell is a reserve cell that can become any cell you need. Stem cell research has shown positive results for people with fibrosis of the heart, liver fibrosis, and damaged brain cells. Stem cells can also be beneficial for the following: •Stimulating new cartilage in the joints •Autoimmune conditions •Rejuvenating skin cells •Cancer Here's how to keep your stem cell population at the highest level. 1. Fasting Prolonged fasting can boost stem cells naturally. If you can fast for 72 hours, you can boost stem cell production primarily for the gastrointestinal tract, brain, and immune system. 2. Exercise Intense exercise is the best way to boost stem cells for your muscles and brain. Exercise also stimulates BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), which allows you to make new nerve and brain cells. 3. Deep sleep Sleep increases melatonin, which stimulates stem cell regeneration in your brain. Sleep also increases immune and cardiovascular stem cells. 4. Green tea Green tea contains the phytonutrient EGCG, which has potent anti-inflammatory properties and can increase stem cells for your brain and liver. 5. Omega-3 fatty acids Decreasing inflammation can boost stem cell production. Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and can increase stem cells for your bones, cartilage, brain, and skin. 6. Vitamin D Vitamin D and the sun help maintain blood stem cells that are involved with the immune system. Vitamin D increases new immune cells, prevents the exhaustion of stem cells, and can even increase longevity. 7. Cold therapy The cold stimulates brown fat stem cells, which support muscle repair and the mitochondria, decrease inflammation, and increase blood flow. Barriers to stem cell production include: •Inflammation •Stress •Lack of sleep •Junk food •Alcohol •Smoking •Pollution Our normal cells have at least 50 genes that help cope with dehydration. Cancer cells have none of these genes. This is why dry fasting may be destructive to cancer cells.

Do you wonder how some companies stay successful for decades? In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, we dive deep into a game-changing principle that's shaped the world's most successful companies: preserve the core, but stimulate progress. This concept, made famous by Jim Collins in his bestseller Built to Last, is all about holding onto what makes your company unique while evolving with the times. When we say "preserve the core," we're talking about keeping your company's values and purpose intact, no matter what. Think of your core values as your business's North Star. They should guide every decision and strategy, ensuring you don't stray from your mission.Your core values shape your company's culture and are key to long-term success. By clearly defining these values, you're setting a standard for how your team operates and how your business shows up in the world. Whether it's maintaining integrity, putting the customer first, or embracing innovation, your core values should align with what you believe in.Practical Tips to Find and Stick to Your Core ValuesLook Inward: Identify values that align with your personal mission.Look Outward: Reflect on industry principles and long-term standards.Create Accountability: Schedule regular “values check” meetings with your team to stay aligned. Now that you know your core, it's time to focus on progress. This doesn't mean throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks; it's about innovating in a way that complements your core values. To stimulate progress, look at key areas like:Products and Services: Update your offerings to meet evolving demands.Processes: Streamline workflows with technology.Culture: Build a workplace that attracts and retains top talent.Innovate without losing your focus by balancing core values with a growth mindset. Salesforce has its one-one-one model; Amazon sticks to its “Day One” mentality. These companies grow without losing their essence because they prioritize tradition and innovation equally. Try focusing on just one new idea at a time to avoid overwhelming your team or over-innovating. If you're serious about building a sustainable business, this is the path. As Jim Collins puts it, it's not just about what you change—it's about what you keep constant. So, preserve that core, stimulate progress, and watch your business thrive.Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/caryjack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featuredGet a free copy of his new book, The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustle.com/bookSign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Course https://thehappyhustle.com/thejourney/Apply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventure https://thehappyhustle.com/mastermind/“It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!”Episode Sponsor: Magnesium Breakthrough from BiOptimizers https://bioptimizers.com/happyIf you've been on a restricted diet lately or maybe even taken some meds to shed those pounds for the summer, I gotta warn ya—be careful! Exclusive cell phone video from a Blaze News Freedom of Information Act request begs the question: Why did the feds photoshop this Crooks lookalike's badge? Sara and Blaze News investigative reporter Steve Baker expose suspicious screenshots of law enforcement officers dressed similarly to the Trump shooter. Was this planned, or is this evidence he was groomed for an inside job? The Secret Service narrative doesn't fly. Speaking of the Secret Service, why would Kamala's detail break into a hair salon so rally-goers could pop a squat? Why are those same agents leaning on social media influencers to stump for the campaign? Kamala's detail has plenty to answer for. Sara also looks at Kamala's lates campaign ad blaming Trump for her failed border policies and questions the Trump campaign's marketing strategy. Is his team up to the task? Panelist Matthew Marsden, a BlazeTV contributor, joins the show.  Today's Sponsors: Be prepared for any emergency and win a FREE Jase Case yearly for LIFE — no purchase necessary. Does newly released body-cam footage expose Secret Service failures in the assassination attempt on Trump, or is it evidence of an inside job? Sara looks at all the angles as the Secret Service narrative disintegrates with every video leak. Also, why is the U.K. arresting citizens who repost Muslim and migrant violence and counter-riots by disenfranchised white citizens? British Big Brother has even threatened “keyboard warriors” in America with extradition and prison time. The tyranny is real. Is it coming to America? And with radicalized Islamic teens plotting a terror attack at a Taylor Swift concert in Europe, the world is definitely on fire. In other news, the nasty narrative that Donald Trump is afraid to debate Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is unraveling as Kamala refuses to commit to two of three scheduled debates — including the one moderated by FOX News. Who is the real coward? Today, I am blessed to have Dr. Alan Goldhamer here with me. He is the founder of TrueNorth Health Center, a state-of-the-art facility that provides medical and chiropractic services, psychotherapy and counseling, as well as massage and body work. He is also director of the Center's groundbreaking residential health education program. In this episode, Dr. Goldhamer emphasizes the necessity of fasting as a response to dietary excess, which he identifies as a leading cause of prevalent health issues such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and cancer. He describes visceral fat, which accumulates around the organs, as particularly harmful, likening it to a tumor that secretes inflammatory substances. The modern diet, laden with hyper-concentrated substances like salt, oil, and sugar, tricks the brain into overeating by artificially stimulating dopamine. This leads to widespread obesity and related diseases.  Dr. Goldhamer emphasizes that accurately measuring autophagy, especially minute-by-minute, is extremely challenging due to biological limitations, even in animal studies. While biomarkers can offer a generalized picture of autophagy, developing non-invasive, reliable indicators remains difficult. He underscores that acute responses, necessary for health, complicate precise measurement.
