Last week, the U.S. Treasury sanctioned the Venezuelan group the Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist organization. President Trump has long considered the cartels to be terrorists and has made their destruction a key policy of his administration. The cartels export of drugs to the U.S. is having a devastating impact on parts of the country. In our new episode of Talking Geopolitics, join GPF Chairman George Friedman and host Christian Smith as they ask whether the cartels can they really be “destroyed,” and why this all has become a geopolitical issue? ¿Qué vamos a aprender después? South Carolina Mother and Son Sentenced for Brutal Murder of Disabled Man in Drug-Related "Mob" Attack A South Carolina mother and her teenage son have been sentenced to decades in prison for their roles in the brutal killing of a man who was first left in a wheelchair after a vicious beating, then murdered in what prosecutors described as a “mob-style” attack. On Monday, Samantha Watts, 42, was sentenced to 45 years in prison, and her son, Payton Watts, now 18, was sentenced to 35 years. Both pleaded guilty to murder in connection with the death of 29-year-old Corey Adam Soles in January 2023. The sentences were handed down as part of a plea deal, the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office announced. Prosecutors recommended that Payton, who was just 16 at the time of the murder, receive a sentence between 30 and 40 years, contingent on his mother accepting a plea without any sentencing recommendation from the state. According to court documents, Soles was attacked between January 8 and 9, 2023, in Horry County, South Carolina. He was first assaulted with a blunt object—believed to be wielded by Payton Watts—resulting in a broken leg. After that initial beating, Soles was confined to a wheelchair. Prosecutors say he was then beaten again, suffering fatal blunt force trauma to the head while he was defenseless. Soles was reported missing on January 10, 2023. His body was discovered six days later in a rural area near Galivants Ferry, according to local reports from WPDE. The case revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse and criminal activity involving multiple members of the Watts family. Prosecutors said Samantha Watts operated a drug distribution operation and controlled her family “like a criminal enterprise,” using her children as enforcers. Payton Watts, her youngest son, was described as her primary enforcer, groomed from the age of 12 to serve as her “muscle” and allegedly given drugs by his mother to manipulate and control him. During court proceedings, it was also revealed that Soles had previously sold surveillance equipment to Samantha Watts—an act she reportedly viewed as a betrayal. Prosecutors believe she suspected him of stealing from her drug operation, which may have triggered the violent retaliation. South Carolina Twelfth Circuit Judge Michael Nettles, who presided over the sentencing, acknowledged the pain and suffering endured by Soles before his death. “Can you imagine what it would be like to break one of the biggest bones in your body and sit there for 11 hours?” he said, referring to Soles' broken leg and prolonged suffering in a wheelchair prior to his murder. This episode of Wisdom from the Wardrobe, the team laces up a lively conversation that's equal parts style, semantics, and sole searching. Inspired by a real-life footwear fiasco, where a journalist was denied entry to a private members club for breakfast for wearing “sneakers” she swears they weren't sneakers and her outfit was elevated. We're diving feet-first into the fashionable gray area of what actually counts as a sneaker in today's style landscape. Are those minimalist leather kicks gym shoes in disguise? Can designer trainers moonlight as dress shoes? And why do some establishments still act like sneakers are the style equivalent of showing up in flip-flops? From the gym floor to the runway, the hosts untangle the evolution of sneakers, from their rubber-soled roots to their high-fashion reinventions. Expect plenty of laughs, spirited debate, and hot takes on everything from restaurant dress codes to why some sneakers might just be more polished than your average pair of Oxfords. As always, we're serving up practical styling tips, sneaky (pun intended) fashion faux pas to avoid, and fresh ideas on how to elevate your sneaker game, without getting turned away at the door. Oh, and before we step into all that…Bec drops an eyebrow-raising, poop-tastic “in the news” segment that's about decluttering using the “poop theory”, and let's just say, things get messy in the best possible way. Whether you're a sneakerhead or a style skeptic, this episode is a must-listen for anyone who's ever wondered if their footwear is too casual, or just misunderstood

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

No pots compatibilitzar.

#100: Stride Soles: Dr. Zac Cartun, MDHad a great time chatting with Dr. Zac about the Stride Sole product. Stride soles is an orthotic insert that is fully custom made, using the 3D recognition technology that your smart phone already has built into it. One of my favorite benefits of stride includes the materials used and the design of the orthotics. They aim to be an "active" orthotic- which helps the foot muscles strengthen over time... with the goal of eventually "growing-out" of it, and no longer needing the orthotic. Very similar to the same principles that make barefoot shoes a great option for many people. This concept really fascinates me and I personally have tried and loved their product. In Legends and Soles, Sonny Vaccaro, in collaboration with 11-time Emmy-award winner and six-time New York Times bestselling author Armen Keteyian, peels back the layers of sensational media stories and headlines, providing an unvarnished look at his pivotal role not only in Michael Jordan's ascent as arguably the world's most famous-and richest-athlete, but Vaccaro's other consequential relationships, including those with Hall of Famers Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady. He reflects on the crushing disappointments, as well, detailing the shocking eleventh hour betrayal by Adidas that led to the loss of a then-18-year-old phenom, LeBron James. He describes reaching a career-defining "inflection point" where he abandoned the shoe industry entirely to pursue his advocacy of athlete's rights bringing readers into the tense, landscape-altering nine-year drama behind the O'Bannon federal lawsuit that changed the face of college sports.Considered basketball's ultimate insider, Vaccaro remains a formidable, passionate voice in the worlds of sports marketing and collegiate sports. His visionary promotional innovations-beginning with the signing of college coaches to Nike endorsement deals followed by the signing of Jordan, revolutionized sports marketing. An outspoken advocate for the rights of athletes, he was the catalyst behind the landmark Supreme Court decision giving control of Name/Image/Likeness (NIL) rights to tens of thousands of college athletes, recently affirmed by the historic $2.8 billion settlement by the NCAA and major conferences opening the door to fair compensation for the real stars-the athletes themselves. Recently he was the central character in the hit movie Air, directed by Ben Affleck and starring Matt Damon as Sonny, exploring a four-month snapshot of his extraordinary eight-decade life. Vaccaro, still an affable and outspoken personality, resides on the West Coast with his wife, Pam. "There have been literally thousands of stories written and broadcast about me over the years," said Vaccaro, "but this time the story is being told by the only person capable of setting the record straight-about Michael, getting blindsided when Phil Knight fired me, my battles with the NCAA, the seminal O'Bannon lawsuit, and many other personal revelations even my closest friends don't know. And I've got the documents to back up every last word." This memoir is far from a recounting of events; rather it's the never-before-told journey of a middle-class kid from a small steel town in western Pennsylvania who rose to the top of a mountain-a rich, revealing tapestry of relationships, triumphs, and challenges through the world of sports, business, and culture told by a man at the epicenter of it all, at Nike and beyond. With a 16-page photo insert illuminating some of Vaccaro's most treasured career memories, Legends and Soles is the long-awaited memoir of a giant of American sports.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

On today's episode, Vince sits down with Luis Navia, a former Cuban-American drug trafficker who played a central role in the international cocaine trade for over 25 years, and Jesse Fink, the author who chronicled Luis's story. Born in Cuba, Luis fled to Miami with his family after Castro's takeover in 1959. Raised in privilege, he attended private schools and Georgetown University before becoming involved in drug trafficking in the 1970s. Known in South American cocaine circles as “El Senador,” Luis worked with powerful cartels, including Escobar's Medellín cartel, the Cali cartel, and Venezuela's Cartel de los Soles, building extensive smuggling networks across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the U.S. In 2000, Luis was arrested in a global operation that involved the DEA, FBI, and Colombian authorities. After being held accountable for over 10 tons of cocaine, he cooperated with U.S. authorities, providing critical information on cartel operations and serving five years in prison. Together, Luis and Jesse share insights into the dangerous world of drug trafficking, the decisions that led to Luis's rise and fall, and the lessons learned along the way. To find out more about Luis's story, check out Jesse Fink's book: Pure Narco: One Man's True Story of 25 Years Inside the Cartels Borderland is an IRONCLAD Original Learn more about your ad choices.
