Send us a textStrap in for a jazz-fueled journey through space as we explore the first half of the legendary anime Cowboy Bebop. This genre-defining series from 1998 follows a ragtag crew of bounty hunters aboard their ship, the Bebop, traveling through a post-apocalyptic solar system where humanity has spread to the stars. What sets Cowboy Bebop apart from its contemporaries? Nearly everything. From its meticulously crafted animation with no recycled scenes to its revolutionary jazz soundtrack by Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts, this show broke every convention of what anime could be. We dive deep into the noir aesthetics, the complex character dynamics between Spike, Jet, Faye, Edward and Ein, and the show's unique approach to storytelling that relies heavily on vibes and atmosphere rather than exposition. The first 13 episodes introduce us to a world that feels lived-in and believable, where technology seems plausible yet fantastical. We explore standout moments like the breathtaking church scene in "Ballad of Fallen Angels" and the horror-inspired bottle episode "Toys in the Attic." Beyond just analyzing the show itself, we discuss Cowboy Bebop's massive influence on western media, particularly its striking similarities to Joss Whedon's Firefly, demonstrating how this anime transcended cultural boundaries to impact science fiction storytelling worldwide.Whether you're rewatching this classic or experiencing it for the first time alongside our hosts, you'll discover new details and perspectives on what makes Cowboy Bebop one of the most enduring and beloved anime series of all time. It's time to space out with an episode featuring songs about space! Jay and Shua list some of their favorites on a cosmic episode of Enjoy Stuff. Humans have always been fascinated by the cosmos. And when popular artists were recording in the space race era, they jumped on the bandrocket and a new era began. Do your favorites make our list? Let's find out. He watched The Wizard of Oz for the first time in years. Turns out it's still a good movie and really quite creepy. It's easy to find and a definite classic you should revisit (or check out for the first time) Shua and his wife ventured out to a movie night at the Alamo. Without many expectations, they were pleasantly surprised by the newest animated interpretation of a classic toy, Transformers One. With a good story, an all-star cast, and great animation, it really put everything together in an entertaining way. Enjoy Music! We love our space songs. Not soundtracks from sci-fi (although those are great too) but songs that artists have written specifically about space. This week we examine some of our favorites throughout history. From Lounge to Classic Rock, there is no shortage of cosmic music that you can use to imagine you are peacefully (or dramatically) floating through the starscape. Songs we include are: The Planets - Gustav Holst 2000 Light Years from Home - The Rolling Stones Fly Me to the Moon - Frank Sinatra Cygnus X-1 - Rush Starman - David Bowie Children of the Sun - Billy Thorpe Rocket Man - Elton John Slime Creatures from Outer Space - Weird Al Flash - Queen Astronaut - Duran Duran Across the Universe - The Beatles Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop) - Q-Feel Space Oddity - David Bowie Countdown - Rush Space Invaders - Uncle Vic Major Tom (Coming Home) - Peter Schilling Interplanet Janet - SchoolHouse Rock Intergalactic - Beastie Boys The Galaxy Song - Monty Python's Meaning of Life Space Cowboy - Steve Miller Walking on the Moon - The Police Major Tom (Coming Home) - William Shatner Space Oddity - Astronaut Chris Hadfield from the International Space Station Eep Op Ork Ah Ah- Jett Screamer Did we list a song you like? Susie's son got in trouble at school, but we fully support his shenanigans and think we've taught him well. Sarah shared a story about teachers who heard a rustling noise coming from a backpack and when they opened it up they discovered a turtle. But some of the kids's parents were mad the teachers didn't get "consent" to search the bags, so they invaded the kindergarteners' privacy. We hear how crows are picking up litter, ferrets have become electricians, and Sarah thinks Susie is a busy beaver. We discuss how different social media algorithms treat each of us and what our Discover pages usually show. Sarah describes "type B" friends, and why she feels like her personality type is finally getting it's due. Susie admits that Sarah was right to be worried about the SpaceX astronauts who are stranded in space, but we hear why it's probably not as bad as it sounds and hopefully the astronauts are living their best lives as space cowboys.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Get 15% off LolaVie with the code BRAIN15 at https://www.lolavie.com/BRAIN15 #lolaviepodVisit https://www.carawayhome.com/BRAINCANDY to see all of our favorite products AND take an additional 10% off your next purchase!Become the best version of yourself and get 15% off Ned products with code BRAINCANDY at https://helloned.com/BRAINCANDYSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 5 – 15, 2024, promises, once again, to be one of the world's premier showcases for documentaries. Featuring 21 feature documentaries from 24 countries, the TIFF DOCS section is more international in scope than ever, covering a wide range of topics, from highly topical political docs (“The Last Republican”, “From Ground Zero”) to deeply intimate personal stories (“Mistress Dispeller”, “A Sister's Tale”) and awe-inspiring cinematic experiences (“Space Cowboy”, “The Last of the Sea Women”). The Fall doc season is here, and Toronto is ground zero. Follow: @thompowers1 on Instagram @topdocspod on Instagram and X/twitter The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix.
