When it comes to “making it” as a performer onstage or on screen, it's usually as an actor, singer, or dancer.  Most people tend to gravitate toward the one(s) they're most comfortable with and can truly express their artistry. Barton Cowperthwaite is a dancer first and foremost, with performances ranging from the opera La Traviata to Travis Wall's Shaping Sound dance tour. The esteemed choreographer Lar Lubovitch describes Barton as a “movement poet” and credits him with having what he calls musical visualization. “Rather than hearing the music, this kind of dancer has the impression of being the music.” But Barton has also been singing the music as well in productions at City Center Encores and in the national tour of American in Paris. He's also been exercising his acting chops in a few movies and of course in his breakout role of Oren in the Netflix series Tiny Pretty Things. Through all of it, Barton has proven he's much more than just a good mover and a pretty face. In this conversation, he shares both the joys and disappointments of working on a hit TV show that ended up being canceled, he opens up about realizing his own weaknesses as a performer and needing to constantly work at improving his abilities, and he talks about the time he went on for the lead role in An American in Paris with just 15 minutes notice.  Learn more about WINMI Podcast at whyillnevermakeit.com  Subscribe to WINMI and get access to Bonus Episodes on Supercast  Donate to the production efforts in making this podcast Follow Why I'll Never Make It on Instagram or Twitter  Get a free copy of WINMI's collection of Creative Wisdom    Ljósið (The Light) from Cylan Shaffer Before there was American in Paris, before Tiny Pretty Things, Barton was cast as the lead dancer in a wordless and moving piece from filmmaker Cylan Shaffer. With every release, Milk & Bone redefine the boundaries of pop music with a mix of deeply emotional tracks and candy-pop hymns.Since coming together to create Milk & Bone in 2015, the duo has spawned two critically acclaimed albums and one EP: Little Mourning (2015), Deception Bay (2018) and DIVE (2019) on top of accumulating over 75 million streams online. On stage, the musicians have captivated audiences while touring across Canada, Europe and the United States. At home, the duo's touchingly personal songs have reached fans of such television series as Riverdale, Search Party, Broad City and Tiny Pretty Things, as well as several advertising campaigns, including Dior.Milk & Bone has won a Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year (2019), and was nominated for Breakthrough Group of the Year in 2016, as well as two long list nominations for the Polaris Prize (2015 and 2018). Outside their record releases as Milk & Bone, Laurence and Camille have also crafted music for two original shows produced by Cirque du Soleil, as well two feature films from Québécois filmmaker Podz. The theme song for King Dave, titled Natalie, earned the pair a nomination for Achievement in Music (Original Song) at the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards. After a long wait, the duo is ready to unveil the fruits of their musical and personal explorations with Chrysalism, a new album set to be released in 2022. For Milk & Bone, the writing process felt like a renewal of vows -- an opportunity for them to work together on new music with intention and desire, instead of doing it simply because it's the next logical step. The result is a highly spirited record that marks a departure into an unmistakably pop-forward territory for the duo. With enthralling vocals, synth-led music and melodic guitar riffs, the pair explores topics like love, longing and heartbreak from a decidedly more mature perspective, choosing to see themselves as actors in the storyline of their love lives, instead of victims of circumstance. What comes through is a poignant reflection of growing older and coming into oneself. We want to hear from you! Against the odds, Singapore-born, Canada-bred Masia One made a name for herself in Hollywood. Her work has evolved from breaking Asian stereotypes to empowering women, particularly in the realm of sexuality. In December 2020, Masia and fellow artiste Elaine Lim, also known as General Ling, created the song “Not All That Glitters Is Gold” after a headlining artiste allegedly sexually assaulted a member of her team. On International Women's Day March 8 this year, Masia One released “Vulva Vocabulary”, a body-positive message to #BreaktheBias. This episode will discuss Masia One's recent marriage, health scare, hip hop, and more! Stay tuned! Masia One is that 1 in a million. Born in Singapore, and raised in Canada, she earned her stripes in the American music industry; this artist is reconnecting with her roots in Asia and re-emerging as the Far East Empress. Masia One is not only an artist but also an entrepreneur and cultural ambassador. Her music cuts through the drone of life, inspiring people to reign as their royal selves. Her journey has been an unlikely path to becoming a full-time Hip Hop artist after graduating in Architecture from the University of Toronto. Her unique sound and courageous journey paved the way for her work with top artists and eminent producers such as Pharrell, John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Che Vicious (G.O.O.D. Music, Kanye West, Jay-Z). Her music has also been featured on Netflix series like Tiny Pretty Things, Snowpiercer, Wu Assassins, and Altered Carbon, and sampled for the title track for Fast & Furious 8.#Love #Sex HipHop #MasiaOne #ErosEvolution #DrMarthaTaraLeeIG @masiaoneFB: https://web.facebook.com/MasiaOne/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/masiaoneSoundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/masiaone/tracksWebsite: https://www.masiaone.com/Visit the Eros Evolution show page https://omtimes.com/iom/shows/eros-evolution/Connect with Dr. Martha at http://www.eroscoaching.com/Subscribe to our Newsletter https://omtimes.com/subscribe-omtimes-magazine/Connect with OMTimes on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Omtimes.Magazine/ and OMTimes Radio https://www.facebook.com/ConsciousRadiowebtv.OMTimes/Twitter: https://twitter.com/OmTimes/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/omtimes/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/2798417/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/omtimes/

First-time guest Kamille joins us for a conversation about Tiny Pretty Things, Netflix's new Center Stage-with-teens ballet thriller (?), and while she watched the whole thing, neither she nor the fulltime panel thinks it's good. We couldn't help but wonder if Sex & The City's fourth-season premiere was the Canon's soulmate. Boots Riley and Jharrel Jerome won (for now), Ellen and Ellen lost (again), and Suley wassailed us with a TV/Christmas song Game Time.
