After we were treated to arguably the greatest weekend in the history of the sport, we're delighted to be joined on the podcast today by Ex All Blacks Captain Tana Umaga, a current World Champion in Ex Springbok Francois Louw & Ex Welsh International Philippa Tuttiett. We discuss everything from the; All Blacks epic victory against the Irish to how the Springboks managed to shock the home nation in their capital, and arguably most surprisingly how the Puma's managed to fight back to knock out the Welsh. Tana opens up about why he feels embarrassed by the way people have treated Ian Foster, how he helped forge Bundee Aki's career, why he decided to change the All Blacks Haka in 2005 and what his relationship with Brian O'Driscoll is like after that famous incident in that Lions series. Francois takes us behind the scenes to reveal; how Rassie meticulously plans for scenarios and outcomes better than anyone in world rugby, the secrets a team needs to know to win a World Cup and how the Springboks managed to put a game plan together against the French which saw them come out on top. Plus Philippa reveals to us why everything seemingly went wrong for the Welsh on the weekend, why she felt that the Irish's luck was running out and how England could still have a great chance at going onto win the World Cup. This is your definitive review & preview of all of the World Cup action, so sit back, relax and enjoy the Official Rugby World Cup Podcast, presented by Asahi Super Dry. #BeyondExpected, Hosted on Acast. It's a contrast of two playing style and managerial methods between what Jones describes as the "clear-thinking" Rassie Erasmus versus the "loose canon" Eddie Jones. The Springboks have named an unchanged 23 for Saturday night's mouthwatering Rugby World Cup opener against the All Blacks in Yokohama. The Boks, captained by loose forward Siya Kolisi, have named the same side as ran out against Japan in their warm-up clash - the first time they have named an unchanged team in 51 games, when they played identical teams against Wales and the All Blacks in the 2015 World Cup quarter-final and semifinal respectively. They take on Steve Hansen's team in what many believe could be a rehearsal for the final on November 2, before also facing Italy, Namibia and Canada in Pool B.Ever since South Africa were dealt a humiliating 57-0 thrashing in North Harbour in September 2017, the two sides have been almost impossible to separate. The All Blacks claimed a 25-24 victory in Cape Town a month after that thumping before South Africa hit back with a 36-34 triumph in Wellington last September.A 32-30 All Blacks victory followed a month later, and the last game was the closest of the lot — a 16-all draw in July. 22 of South Africa's players from that clash in July are also playing in Saturday's opener.Duane Vermeulen, who made his debut in 2012, will win his 50th cap in a starting XV with three other half-centurions (Willie le Roux, Pieter-Steph du Toit and Eben Etzebeth) while there are a further three on the bench (Beast Mtawarira, Francois Louw and Frans Steyn).Only three of the starting XV have played fewer than 25 tests (Cheslin Kolbe, Lukhanyo Am and Makazole Mapimpi) while only replacement scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies was not capped before this season. This is the fifth meeting between the teams at the Rugby World Cup. The Springboks won the 1995 final and 1999 bronze medal match while New Zealand took the 2003 quarter-final and 2015 semifinal. The All Blacks name their 23 at 2.30pm (NZT) on Thursday. The Springbok team to play New Zealand in Yokohama:15. The Springboks have brought out the big guns for their clash against the All Blacks in Wellington on Saturday night.Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus has made widespread changes to the side that defeated the Wallabies 35-17 in Johannesburg last weekend, with only lock Eben Etzebeth, wing Makazole Mapimpi and flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit retaining their places in the starting XV.No 8 Duane Vermeulen will take over the captaincy from Etzebeth, who led the team against Australia, with Siya Kolisi still recovering from injury. The changes don't come as a surprise with Erasmus deciding to split his squad into two groups before the start of the Rugby Championship to prepare better for this week's clash and manage fatigue ahead of the World Cup in September.Erasmus will be hoping this side, 18 of which featured in the Springboks' 36-34 win over the All Blacks in September last year, will be able to replicate that performance and go back-to-back at Westpac Stadium.Erasmus says he expects a "huge battle" in Wellington, where the Springboks beat the All Blacks on an away trip for the first time since 2009."We have the utmost respect for the All Blacks who are the undisputed No 1 rugby team in the world," he said."We know we will have to be at our very best to be competitive against the All Blacks on Saturday and that is why we have sent a group of players in advance to Wellington, so they could acclimatise after the long trip over from South Africa."The New Zealanders are a very experienced and settled side while we have some catching up to do in terms of where the two sides are at the moment."They are bringing back their Crusaders players, who were all rested after the Vodacom Super Rugby final, so we are in for a huge battle against the best team in the world."Springboks team: 15 Willie le Roux, 14 Cheslin Kolbe, 13 Lukhanyo Am, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Handré Pollard, 9 Faf de Klerk, 8 Duane Vermeulen (c), 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 6 Kwagga Smith, 5 Franco Mostert, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Malcolm Marx, 1 Steven Kitshoff. Reserves: 16 Bongi Mbonamb, 17 Tendai Mtawarira, 18 Trevor Nyakane, 19 RG Snyman, 20 Francois Louw, 21 Herschel Jantjies, 22 Frans Steyn, 23 Jesse Kriel.

For a moment there I got excited. I blame Peter Hood, who dangled the capital gains avoidance carrot dangerously close. Peter's theory is elegant: Use your capital gains allowance each year to offload your cheap ETF units at a profit and then buy them back at a higher price. Your cost per unit goes up over time, allowing you to pay less capital gains tax when you eventually cash in for real. Unfortunately, traders ruin it for everyone. Regular (read, annual or more) transactions in your trading account lands your squarely in the investing-for-income category. Income, as in “income tax.” Yeah. You may be able to hack it by having three different ETFs that you sell and rebuy on a rolling three-year period. That sounds like a lot of admin, but the tax saving might just make it worth it. I'm not often grateful that I have a growing portfolio (I was going to say “small”, but I like the more hopeful term), but this time it works in my favour. Unless my portfolio doubles twice over, I'm not even close to the profit exemption. I have time to figure this out.* Links Thanks to Christoff and Mukhtaar for sharing this link to the financial independence calculator. This tool will help you work out the most tax efficient way to invest your money. They sent this following the discussion we had about tax on a retirement annuity. Play around and share your insights with us. Francois Louw shared this ShareNet article on Top 40 offshore earnings. It's an awesome tool. ShareNet will publish an updated version this Thursday - this data is about a year old. Keep an eye out for that. When we had the discussion on renting vs owning last year, many of you shared this Rolling Alpha calculator. Johan Uys discovered it last week and shared it with us. I'd forgotten how much fun it is. Lastly, next week we're doing an episode for people who earn very little. If you consider yourself a low income earner, send your concerns to ask@justonelap.com. Kris *Unless my ship comes in.
