We are now in April, and I only have seven more months left of new episodes for Martinis and Your Money. As sad as I am to say goodbye to this podcast, I'm equally excited about the final season of episodes I'm delivering to you every Friday. Each month of this final year is broken down by subjects that are important for anyone's financial health journey, and I'm bringing to you the best guests around each of these subject matters but also sharing with you the best tips and practices I've learned in the last 15+ years. April is a short month as far as Fridays are concerned, and it's also my birthday month, so I decided to talk about a subject that I personally used to hate but now I love, and that's budgeting and frugality. Joining me today is who I consider to be my OG Queen of Frugality, and that is long-time Martinis and Your Money friend, guest, and Happy Hour Co-Host, Liz Thames, aka Mrs. Frugalwoods. Liz joins me today to talk about why we both love the frugal approach and the crazy expensive purchase she recently made, and she shares her best tips and suggestions for someone new to a frugal journey. Today, I have the absolute pleasure to be chatting to Liz from her awesome blog and amazing book that she wrote, Meet the Frugal Woods! Anyone who's been on the Captain FI blog knows that I'm a big fan of Liz and Nate, the Frugal Woods and they are literally living my dream! They have an acreage in rural Vermont, which they call the Frugalwoods. There, they're raising their two beautiful daughters and they participate in a whole bunch of wholesome things. They're always gardening, the kids are always in the garden, and it really just looks like an awesome lifestyle. Liz and her husband started working towards FI in 2014, both 29 at the time. They had white collar office positions and thought they were dream jobs but they realised they didn't actually feel fulfilled. They were forced to re evaluate and started to talk about other ways that they could live their lives. Something that they really wanted to do was live in nature. They were in Boston and did not feel energised, they wanted to be in the woods. So they bought a property in rural Vermont in 2016 and have never looked back. Liz has since enjoyed freelance writing, working one on one with clients doing financial consultations, writing for the Frugalwoods blog and she published the book, Meet the Frugalwoods which has been extremely popular! This was a bit of a selfish interview as I wanted as much info as possible on Liz's homestead life so I can make this a reality for myself!

This is one of the last podcasts of the year and during the month of December, I'm always talking to clients about year-end planning, especially around taxes and charitable donations. We've talked about charitable giving specifically with Donor Advised Funds on this podcast as Mrs. Frugalwoods is a big proponent and shared how she utilizes them to not only help with their tax planning but also how her family is able to give more meaningfully because they have the funds. I have always loved the idea of Donor Advised Funds, but always hated how they seemed to only be a conversation topic for wealthy families. Well, finally there is a great option for people of all financial shapes and sizes to consider Donor Advised Funds and it's called Daffy. Joining me today is Adam Nash, CEO and Co-Founder of Daffy to talk more about Donor Advised Funds, why December is the perfect time to start one, and how Daffy is making it easier for all of us to give back not only in December but year-round for many years to come.
