Preacher: Kathy Maskell Scripture: 1 Peter 2:10-12 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
In this powerful sermon titled The Kingdom of God and Politics, Pastor Duane Vander Klok takes on the important task of aligning key political issues with biblical truth. Speaking with authority and clarity, he explores the stances of American political parties on the sanctity of life, foreign relations with Israel, and LGBTQ+ lifestyles. Without condemnation or judgment, Pastor Duane addresses these sensitive topics with a heart of correction, guided by scripture. Referencing Titus 2:15, where believers are called to "encourage and rebuke with all authority," he sheds light on what the Bible teaches concerning each issue. From God's heart for the unborn in Psalm 139:13-16, to the importance of supporting Israel as seen in Genesis 12:3, and understanding God's design for human relationships through passages like Romans 1:26-27, Pastor Duane encourages listeners to seek truth in love, reminding us that God will justly judge us based on how -- or IF -- we vote. This message isn't about political division, but rather about approaching these discussions with a biblical mindset—standing firm on truth while showing grace. Watch this sermon and be equipped to engage with today's political landscape from a Kingdom perspective, grounded in God's Word.

OUTLINE Rendering to Caesar Rendering to God INTRODUCTION What is the relationship between God and politics? That question will open up a can of worms. And right now in this moment in time when we have been two years under government mandates that have affected various freedoms many are asking this question. We have seen the recent Canadian Truckers Convoy that sparked off other convoys around the world. In our own country we have just seen the end of a 23 day protest outside of parliament. As long as there have been humans who have power over the lives of other humans we have come up against the question of God and politics. Does God expect us to live under tyranny; can Christians engage in civil disobedience and bloody revolution? These questions are not new they were also being asked in the first century. You will remember that the Jews who were God's people, who had been given the holy land by God and were forced to be under Rome's authority and put up with their invasive forces monitoring their activities and taking certain rights away from them. There would have been various groups with differing views on how things should work out. There were the Herodians who approved of Israel's occupation by Rome, who welcomed progress, the legal reforms Rome brought, the improvements to society, and its high culture. Then there were the Zealots who were full of Jewish nationalism and wanted a repeat of the Maccabean revolution. Then there were the Pharisees who saw the Roman invasion as a curse on Israel for her disobedience to God's law and how a pursuit of holiness who bring about God's deliverance. Then there were those who were filled with Political Messianism, who were putting their hope in a miraculous military... Read More Source

God and politics -- do I need to say more? In recent years, God and politics have become such volatile topics that even to mention one's political party is to, in the eyes and ears of 'the other' is to sum up that person's identity. Phrases like, "You can't be a Christian and a X" are thrown about with wild abandon -- as if God sits on the throne with an elephant or a donkey on either side of Him. How can we agree to disagree when the cancel culture, beating at the door, is quick to shut down anyone who does not agree with the majority? When do we as Christians reach out in love and say, "I may disagree with your stance, but you are still my brother and sister in Christ?" Or is it too late? Join me as I chat with Pastor Michael Campbell about God and politics on Saturday, May 8th at 2 pm Eastern time. Listen in at 646-668-8485. Download Stitcher on your mobile device. How do you to engage in culture? Specifically, as a Christian, how do you decide when and how to engage with tough public issues? As you know, as soon as you start engaging in conversation, it usually is interpreted partisan and political--and certainly not as biblical. In this talk, we'll explore four Christian responses to culture and how that impacts your world view. Yes, you read that correctly. We are talking about politics! Join us as we launch this first of four conversations about taboo topics--topics that everyone is thinking about but no one is talking about (the elephant in the room!). Consider what sort of leader Jesus wants you to be, what sort of leader you wish to follow, and ask yourself whether your answers speak to your ultimate identity as a follower of Jesus. Challenge yourself to push yourself to respond to culture from a different "box". AND, keep an eye out for a Menlo Midweek video on social media and YouTube this week when John Crosby will take a deeper dive into this topic with his daughter, who works in politics in D.C..

1.17.21. In the midst of a tumultuous time in American political life, and on the cusp of the annual celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. David Lewicki preaches about how we might continue to conceive of God's role in our political life today. Does God put leaders in power? Does God pull them down? Our text is from 1 Samuel.
In this episode of IBR, we take a break from our Gospel series and talk about God and our current American political climate.
Ladies and gentlemen we need to slow down, take a breath, and pause for a moment. We are currently at the climax of political tension and it’s safe to say people from both sides are getting a little rowdy. I don’t care about believer’s political opinions, what I do care about is how Christians are handling the situation. To be completely honest with you, I can’t tell you what to do with your life. If you wanna get angry, vulgar, and toxic about the whole situation, all I can do is mention you’re not setting a good example for what a Christian should look like. I am speaking to no one in specific here, both sides are equally as guilty as the other and it’s showing. Am I trying to be some Jesus hippie in the middle of all this chaos? Certainly not. But I am going to relate to the fact that it’s so easy to get tangled in the poisonous web of politics. Read a post, get angry, say some stuff you probably shouldn’t have said... We’ve all been there. It’s human to get heated over certain stuff, we have something called emotions... Just remember there’s a responsibility that comes with being a believer. God draws a line in the sand and tells us not to cross it. Don’t cross it.
In part 3 of God and Politics, Craig Cabaniss emphasizes that God is sovereign over history even though we disagree about the future of our nation currently.
Tonight, we hope you'll catch this replay of Part 1 of our conversation about God and Politics. Next week we'll be back with a brand new episode of The Link: A Conversation about God and Politics Part 2. Trust us, you won't want to miss it!What are the two things you are not supposed to talk about at the dinner table? Religion and Politics. Politics are a topic that can be profoundly Biblical, but unfortunately, in the wrong hands can be equally divisive. On tonight's episode of The Link, joining Senior Pastor Chris Brooks is Jon Morales, Royal Oak Campus Pastor, Ryan Russell, Pontiac Campus Pastor, and James Muffett, Founder of the Students Statesmanship Institution for a conversation on how we as Christians can engage politics in a Biblical and God-honoring way. When God is removed from our government, we should only expect disastrous things just like the ones we are witnessing right now. Democrats wanting to implement socialism and dismantling or defunding the police. Starting next Sunday I will talk about the things that affect us as Americans
A pastor, a politician and a podcaster sit down to discuss the specifics of Thy Kingdom Come and what being an ambassador of another Kingdom has potential to look like as we participate in politics. We take a few deep breaths and encourage each other to not lose hope living in a fallen world... for God is still sovereign.

Colleen is talking faith and politics today! Whether or not faith plays a role in your politics, it is impossible to escape the role the Christian faith has played in politics in recent years. And if you've never contemplated to what degrees church and state are and should be separated, it's worth considering. The guest is Cody Cook. Cody is a theology graduate student living in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the author of three books and the host of the podcast Cantus Firmus which explores theological questions as they relate to the wider culture. Cody and Colleen discuss what the Bible says about the role the Church plays within the state, the lenses each side tends to view the world through, and how we can be political but not partisan with our faith. Connect with Cody! You can find him and info about his podcast on his website and check out his books! Year of Action steps: If you are a person of faith, regardless of your political leanings consider this week the ways in which your politics may only be of benefit a specific group of people rather than the whole, particularly if those people are people who agree with and think like you? How might your politics expand to benefit people who are different from you? How can we hold more loosely to our partisan politics in the name of speaking truth to power? If you are not a person of faith and you want to understand more how faith influences politics on both sides of the aisle, consider listening to The Pantsuit Politics ladies. Both are Christian women whose faith informs their politics even though they ascribe to different parties. They give a good picture of how faith can influence politics in the best ways.
