Friendship is more than proximity—it's purpose. In this episode, we explore what real, biblical friendship looks like. From the friends who carried a paralyzed man to Jesus, to the sharpening power of godly relationships, Scripture shows us that the right people in your life can help carry you closer to Christ—or pull you away from Him. We'll unpack what it means to be a friend who shows up, stands strong, and points others toward Jesus, while also examining the warning against friendships rooted in the world. Because not all friendships are equal—and not all are worth keeping.

Most Christian men don't mean to drift… but many end up outsourcing discipleship to the church. If you've ever felt like you're not “qualified” to lead spiritually at home, this conversation will challenge you—in the best way. In this episode, Brian from Iron Sharpens Iron breaks down why so many men feel disengaged, why churches often (accidentally) create a codependency that weakens fathers, and what God's design for biblical manhood and discipleship really looks like. You'll hear why the church can't replace what God intended a man to do, how spiritual leadership in the home shapes everything else (including your witness in the marketplace), and why real growth happens through brotherhood, not isolation. If you want stronger faith, a deeper walk with Christ, and a practical path to leading your marriage and children with confidence—this is for you. No hype. No guilt. Just a clear call to become the kind of man who goes deep with Godand brings that strength home. Why many churches train kids well but unintentionally remove the pressure God designed fathers to carry, and how that leads to spiritual disengagement at home. The “general contractor” problem—how men subcontract faith to professionals—and the hidden cost it creates in marriage, parenting, and personal growth. A simple discipleship blueprint for men: the Paul, Barnabas, Timothy model and why every man needs mentoring, brotherhood, and someone to invest in. How to build a firm faith foundation through daily Scripture, real relationships, and consistent spiritual leadership that holds up when life gets hard. 00:00 Intro00:28 Brian's story + Iron Sharpens Iron02:46 Why men feel spiritually incompetent04:20 The “general contractor” Christian07:29 Why outsourcing discipleship is costly09:17 What biblical spiritual leadership looks like at home12:33 Baby dedication + church expectations vs reality15:17 How churches can fix the codependency20:01 What men should do right now21:16 Brotherhood + getting connected25:01 Discipleship framework: Paul, Barnabas, Timothy32:16 Why discipleship is life-on-life34:26 Losing his wife + why foundation matters37:12 The #1 action step for men39:16 Where to connect with Brian #MensMinistry #BiblicalManhood #Discipleship #SpiritualLeadership #ChristianMen Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a text This chapter gives us counsel in how to have humility, good relationships, and self-awareness. It warns us against boasting about the future, praising ourselves, and it describes how wrath can be our downfall. We also learn that friends are to sharpen us just as iron sharpens iron. Solomon reminds us that we need to be faithful in our friendships, diligent in our stewardship, and recognize where true wealth and honor comes from. We invite you to come study God's Word with us today!
Send us a textI always thank my God for you because of His grace given you in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1:4 As we close out the first month of 2026, one goal we must have for this year is to find community. The church is a great place to start and we should be plugged into the local church. But even further, who are the people who help guide and encourage you and to whom you guide and encourage also? This episode focuses on how God helps us in "finding our tribe," how we must also limit access with certain people, and that we must look for opportunities to pour into the generations that follow us. As we find our tribe, we find those who God will use to continue to shape and mold us. It's an essential part of our walk in the Lord, as there are no "Lone Ranger Christians."
Pastor Sam Fleurry teaches “1 Is the Loneliest Number” as part of the Rhythms series, calling the church back to the spiritual rhythm of community. From Mark 2:1–12, he shows how godly community carries us to Jesus, covers our needs, cultivates our faith, and celebrates God's healing work. This message challenges isolation and individualism, emphasizing that accountability and connection are essential for spiritual growth and lasting transformation.Click here to view the episode transcript.
