Hey everybody, it's time for another episode! This time around, I'm talking to Luke Jaconetti, from Earth Destruction Directive! If you're going to talk about Daikaiju, you've got to have him on. As you can see in the title, we're discussing Rodan from 1956. This is Luke's personal favorite, and possibly mine as well! I have the American version, which is slightly shorter than the Japanese version, so after we discuss this awesome film, we dive int some of the differences (thanks, Luke!). This film seems to always take a backseat Godzilla (Gojira), but make no mistake, it's right up there with that film in every aspect! As usual, you can leave any feedback for the show through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the FB page. You can find Luke on Twitter @ljacone and on the Two True Freaks Network (click here for Earth Destruction Directive)!
On the final episode of MONSTER ISLAND COMMENTARIES, Travis & Luana revisit 1954's GOJIRA/GODZILLA and reminisce about the history of the podcast! NOTE: To sync this commentary with the movie, pause the movie at the beginning when the Toho logo appears on-screen. A countdown to press the play button is included in the commentary's intro.

After nearly 70 years and more than 35 films, the original Godzilla is still considered by many to be the best. We discuss why the films works so well, the historical and cultural influences of its creation, and our early memories of being a fan of the series.
From stomping on buildings to fighting King Kong, Godzilla (Gojira) has had quiet the career in his seventy years on screen. Walking us through all of it is Evan Sizemore. We cover so much ground in this episode from the evolution of the character to the fanbase that wholeheartedly embraces the king of the monsters. "In honor of Godzilla day (which was November 3rd) Host Austin talks about the king of all monsters. Godzilla, Gojira, whichever you prefer; this massive movie giant had humble beginnings in post war Japan. How does Godzilla’s legacy hold up today? How does it fit in with America’s obsession with large monsters and our rampant military propaganda? Why is “King Kong vs. Godzilla” a real movie? Are you Team Godzilla, or Team King Kong?"

The bois reunite to talk about Godzilla/Gojira/random shit as always
Bob and Dan talk about the original Japanese version of Godzilla (Gojira, 1954), a sci-fi film that clearly endeavors to show how the Japanese felt about the use of atomic weapons shortly after World War II. Other topics include: Pacific Rim, who is a victim, love triangles, and where it is safe to be a Jew. Follow us on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter. Follow Dan on Twitter.

Stamp Show Here Today - Postage stamp news, collecting and information
Welcome to Stamp Show Here Today, Episode #137. Today we talk about Godzilla (Gojira) and his stamps. Since we are talking about the destructive lizard (dinosaur?) we will also be discussing the fake stamps of Japan and also other countries. Did you know Godzilla has his own song by the Blue Oyster Cult? I didn’t but everyone else did so – stay to the end for that. Also Caj’s Corrections and a continuation of the Rutherford B Hayes Extravaganza.
Ryan introduces Sam and Joanna to their first Godzilla movie and boy, is it depressing! Experience the highs and lows of the 1954 original Godzilla, including very handsome sailors, overdramatic radio operators, and the single greatest miniature fire truck of all time. Naz recommends "Train To Busan" (2016, directed by Sang-ho Yeon) and talks about making unapologetic un-ironic pulp, how in real life zombies are just people who are full of hate and anger and can only channel those feelings through violence, how the original Godzilla (Gojira) is a deeply sad film, and in the middle of the podcast a friend gives Naz a shirt that totally made his day. Naz also talks how zombie movies have basically been in since after 9/11 and about how another zombie film "World War Z" would have been the zombie movie to end all zombie movies had it been allowed to be gory, and brings his disappointment from "Monster Trucks" back up, which was discussed on the previous show.
Reliving the Japanese A-bomb nightmare via cathartic "monster movie" therapy, Japanese director Ishiro Honda made the culturally significant Gojira in 1954, a mere 9 years after the nuclear devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (too soon?). While a silly movie, it's hard to deny its pop significance. Spawning 27 movie sequels, there just seems to be no end to the joy of seeing a guy in a foam rubber suit smashing up miniaturized cities. Gojira set a precedent for all disaster movies that followed, some better than others, some worse (Michael Bay, anyone?)Download: 040 Godzilla (Gojira)
Host Betty Jo Tucker rants and raves about the new Godzilla movie. Is this film a hit or a miss? How does it compare with previous Godzilla offerings? What are the most exciting elements of Godzilla 2014? What could have been done better? Why is Godzilla so popular? Tune in and find out! Comedian Nancy Lombardo and producer Nikki Starr join in the fun. Called King of the Monsters, Godzilla (Gojira) has been stomping around the screen for 60 years. Appearing first in Ishiro Honda’s 1954 Japanese film, this massive creature has become a pop culture icon with 28 films about him produced by the Toho Company. In 1998, Tri-Star released another Godzilla movie to mixed reviews, but Godzilla 2014 – presented by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures -- is receiving mostly rave reviews. During the live show, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
We kick off our giant monster series with GOJIRA AKA GODZILLA, the 1954 original that launched Japan's favorite radioactive-breathing monster.
