Lumea în pragul crizei energetice. Plus: cine a câștigat la bursă?

Presa internaţională

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 25, 2026 3:51

I can't really remember when I met this week's guest. He has kind of been a part of the fabric of American DNB for as long as I can remember..When I join a new dnb group online or talk to some junglists in some tiny pocket of the country, they already know Mike...better known as Gigan, he stands tall in the world of drum and bass, revered for his electrifying DJ performances and groundbreaking production work. He's not just a DJ; he's a visionary force behind Boomslang Recordings, pushing the boundaries of the genre. Gigan's impact is felt far beyond the DJ booth, with his insightful contributions to Knowledge Magazine, offering invaluable perspectives on the intricacies of drum and bass culture. His journey into electronic music began with an insatiable curiosity for sonic exploration, propelling him to the forefront of the drum and bass movement. His mixes for Nu Urban Music, especially "The History of Ragga Jungle Volumes 1 & 2," showcase his talent for blending raw energy with finesse, drawing inspiration from artists like Congo Natty and Suburban Base. Beyond his solo work, Gigan is a collaborator and mentor, shaped by luminaries like Joe Ford and Transforma. His dedication to community is evident in his involvement with Konkrete Jungle, where he not only participates but also spearheaded the opening of the Kansas City chapter. Gigan's commitment to pushing boundaries cements his legacy as a pioneer in drum and bass, ensuring his influence resonates for years to come. Please enjoy❤️ Back next week -Thomas

Hello, Kaiju Lovers! In the longest MIFV episode ever (of all time), Nate is joined by Daniel DiManna of the Godzilla Novelization Project (no surprise why it's long) to discuss the most underestimated of G-films: Godzilla vs. Gigan (aka Godzilla on Monster Island). They discuss every possible aspect of this film, from its under-funded production to its quirky yet iconic dub and everything in between—and we do mean everything. But the most surprising part of this epic episode is Nate and Danny's discussion of the historical context in which it was made—a time of market penetration by foreign corporations and the explosion of the popularity of theme parks—the fascinating unmade drafts of its script written by both Shinichi Sekizawa and Takeshi Kimura, and the brilliant meta commentary it makes on Godzilla as a pop culture icon. “There's something funny going on” in today's episode of MIFV! Două importamnte victorii ale Comisiei Europene împotriva unor giganți tehnologici

Presa internaţională

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 13, 2024 3:16

When Sally Gates moved from New Zealand to Florida, she was already an accomplished guitar player. Playing live in a metal cover band and the grindcore assassins, Relentless Attrition, she honed her chops in the Aukland scene. A year or so later circa 2008, she had moved to Miami and became the touring bass player in the mighty death metal cosmic destroyers known as Gigan. Touring on the band's seminal album "The Order of the False Eye" --a death metal record full of mind bending tempo changes and otherworldly aural assaults--Sally began her sonic journey in the U.S. with a proverbially sonic bang. But there was only one problem, she wasn't a bass player! Now writing and creating with her axe of choice, Sally's Orbweaver project picked up where Gigan left off--launching the listener to the outer orbits of extreme prog death metal. At the same time, Miami's ever expanding noise scene seeped into her restless improvisatory soul. The fearless artist followed her own path. Landing in Brooklyn's ever expanding instrumental improvisation scene, Sally Gates could not be happier. Ben and Jeff were thus so excited to talk to Sally about her new band TITAN TO TACHYONS. An all instrumental experimental jazz-metal group featuring drummer Kenny Grohowski and two bassists: Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk) and Matt Hollenberg (Cleric, John Zorn). The band's second album "Vonals" is as mesmerizing as explosive--a strain of heavy music they simply can not get enough of!!! So cozy up with a Tired Hands Brewery Eviscerated Pathway of Beauty Double Citra IPA and enjoy! Music from this episode comes from the composition "Neutron Wrangler" from the album vonals. Sally Gates is a New Zealand musician and composer currently based in New York. Her avant-rock trio, Titan to Tachyons, recently launched their second album, Vonals under John Zorn's Tzadik Records. This album has received widespread critical acclaim, earning a spot on Spin's Best Metal list and being described as "harnessing virtuosity with an enticingly organic fluidity" by The Wire. In 2022, Sally was honored with the Wellington Jazz Festival Composer Commission. She returned to her home country to debut her composition Thought & Terraform for solo guitar at the Wellington Opera House, along with a series of other performances across New Zealand. Sally is known for her "slinky, avant-noir guitar work." She frequently collaborates with various improvisational music groups in New York, notably as a 'secret guest' in a John Zorn ensemble. Some of her recent collaborators include Trevor Dunn, Zoh Amba, Brian Chase, Greg Fox, and Sam Ospovat. Before her move to New York, Sally Gates released original music as a member of the Miami progressive-metal band Orbweaver. She toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and New Zealand, performing alongside acts such as Gigan, Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky, and Relentless Attrition.

Jun Fukuda presents two new versus movies for the Monster Rankings: the kaiju theme park movie Godzilla vs. Gigan, which introduces us to the hook-handed monster, and Godzilla vs. Megalon, wherein Godzilla and Megalon are not so much the point as the totally-not-a-kaiju creation of Jet Jaguar. Neither are spectacular examples of big-scaled monster action but both have their moments and identities that may secure their placement in the kaiju arena. It's been a while… and yet the promise for the future remains potent, so stay strong kaiju friends, the work's not done, and there remain so many monsters left to rank in the future.

We unleash the dead on this episode! We discuss the cult classic Raiders Of The Living Dead, a 1986 horror movie by (sort of) Samuel M. Sherman. Three different versions of this movie exist, and we talk about every single one of 'em on this episode! It's a horror history course, and it's almost time for class! Director Sam Sherman's company INDEPENDENT-INTERNATIONAL PICTURES CORP purchased an unfinished 80 minute film called DYING DAY from special FX artist Brett Piper, which was re-shot over and over and over until becoming RAIDERS OF THE LIVING DEAD. All three versions of the film are discussed on this episode, which has different versions itself! You can watch this episode in stunning DEATH-O-VISION exclusively on Patreon!
