In this week's Northwest Florida Fishing Report, host Joe Baya covers a mixed early-summer pattern from Pensacola to Panama City, with heavy rain, stained bay water, sargassum, June grass, strong surf shark action, a rare nighttime tarpon catch, steady summer pompano, stained-water trout tactics, offshore mahi around grass, swordfish timing, and boat-running issues caused by floating grass. This episode features Blake Hunter with Reel 30A, Brandon Barton with Emerald Waters Kayak Charters, and Capt. Adam Peeples with One Shot Charters. Blake Hunter breaks down the 30A surf report, where nighttime fishing has produced strong shark action and a standout tarpon catch from the beach after dark. He explains how blacktips, sandbar sharks, bull sharks, and bigger fish are feeding around the evening-to-night transition, why stingray has been a top shark bait, and how heavier tackle, shock leaders, and second-sandbar setups come into play. Blake also covers the current surf conditions, including dune lake outflows, sargassum, June grass, and a surprisingly good summer pompano bite, with sand fleas and Fishbites both producing fish when anglers can find clean, fishable water. Brandon Barton gives the Pensacola inshore kayak report, where heavy rain has left the bays dirty and stained, making trout and redfish fishing more condition-dependent. He explains why anglers should switch from natural presentations to louder, higher-contrast lures in stained water, including topwaters, wake baits, brighter soft plastics, and possibly popping corks. Brandon also talks about finding trout around mullet schools near docks, why a white bone Southern Salt Apex topwater matched the bait well, and how he rigs for long casts with 20-pound braid, 20-pound fluorocarbon leader, and longer leaders tied with an FG knot. Capt. Adam Peeples gives the Destin offshore report, where fishing has been productive when boats can work around rough weather and heavy sargassum. He explains how scattered grass has made trolling difficult, but mahi can still be caught by finding larger patches, birds, or floating structure and using cut bait, squid, Ballyhoo, live bait, or even small jigs to draw fish to the boat. Adam also covers the current swordfish pattern, with fish keying heavily on major feeding periods, especially around the full and new moon, and warns boaters to watch for grass clogging motors, raw-water intakes, strainers, and debris hidden inside the floating sargassum. Fishing is heating up across the Alabama Gulf Coast, and this week's episode covers both sides of that summer kickoff: crowded holiday-weekend inshore waters and a serious offshore swordfish bite. Capt. Ben Knight of Great Southern Fishing Charters checks in from the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores area with a nighttime dock-light report, explaining how he's been getting away from heavy daytime boat traffic and finding redfish and speckled trout around Ono Island, Bayou St. John, Old River, and nearby dock lights. He breaks down how to drift live shrimp and bull minnows through the lights, when to use split shot, why some lights are worth leaving quickly, and why nighttime boating safety matters when traffic, dock lights, and shallow water all mix together. Then Capt. King Marchand of Capt. Mike's Fishing joins Butch Thierry and Joe Baya to recap an incredible swordfish trip out of Dauphin Island aboard the Lady Anne that produced six swordfish in a short window. King explains why he shifted away from a slow tuna bite, how he used historical patterns and electronics to pick his swordfish area, why holding the boat on the right piece of bottom mattered more than simply drifting, and how bait rigging, deep-water sonar, current, and crew communication all came together offshore. The episode also includes practical spring boat-prep advice from Clark Newsome and Royce Robertson with Make Wake Marine, making this a strong listen for anglers trying to stay safe, catch more fish, and get their boats ready before the summer season gets fully underway. In this week's Northwest Florida Fishing Report, host Joe Baya is joined by Butch Thierry for a wide-ranging Gulf Coast report covering surf fishing from Pensacola to Navarre, late-spring pompano and bull redfish, June grass problems along the beach, sand flea scouting, an epic swordfish trip out of Dauphin Island, slow tuna conditions, strong scamp grouper action, snapper season opportunities, and how Panama City anglers can adjust around changing wind and weather. This episode features Justion Reed with Justin Reed Fishing, Capt. King Marchand with Captain Mike's Deep Sea Fishing, and Capt. Justin Leake with Panama City Inshore. Justin Reed gives the surf fishing report from the Pensacola and Navarre area, where pompano are still being caught on most trips and bull redfish have been consistent off the beach. He explains how June grass and sargassum are forcing anglers to stay mobile, why north winds can help clean up the surf, and how to follow pockets of clean water when grass is moving down the beach. Justin also breaks down beach gear, sand spikes, fishing carts, walking the beach with artificials, targeting Spanish mackerel and bluefish with heavy spoons, and finding sand fleas for pompano bait. Capt. King Marchand gives the offshore report after a standout swordfish trip aboard the Lady Ann, where his crew killed three swordfish, released three more, and added an escolar during a fast-paced bite. King explains why he believes the swordfish bite shifts from west to east as the season progresses, how he uses historical data, ledges, bait marks, electronics, and boat positioning to stay on the fish, and why holding over the right piece of bottom can outperform a blind drift. He also talks about slow yellowfin tuna fishing, the importance of fishing while already hooked up, strong scamp grouper action, and how sharks are starting to affect the bite. Capt. Justin Leake gives the Panama City and Panama City Beach report, where changing weather has anglers bouncing between offshore, nearshore, and inshore options. He explains how he reads hourly forecasts and wind direction, especially when deciding whether to run offshore for snapper or stay inside for trout, redfish, tarpon, or trolling opportunities. Justin also talks about using a versatile boat setup, adjusting routes around southeast winds, fishing live bait with heavier fluorocarbon when Spanish mackerel and bluefish are mixed in, and staying flexible enough to fish everything from a few inches of water to a couple hundred feet depending on conditions. Phil and Emily continue the Angelina Jolie action films miniseries with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), joined by BJ Colangelo and Harmony Colangelo, co-hosts of the This Ends at Prom podcast. BJ and Harmony previously joined the show for Hard-Boiled, which Phil describes as a superior action movie. Harmony agrees with everything about that sentence.Tomb Raider follows aristocrat archaeologist Lara Croft racing against the villainous Illuminati to retrieve the two halves of the Triangle of Light before a rare planetary alignment allows them to unlock its power over time. It cost $150 million, grossed $274 million worldwide, and opened June 15th, 2001 against Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Shrek, Swordfish, Pearl Harbor, and Evolution. Paramount had purchased the video game rights in 1998. No fewer than seven screenwriters took a pass at the script before Simon West stitched something together and pointed a camera at Angelina Jolie. The group agrees on several things: Jolie is perfectly cast, clearly having a blast, and simply is Lara Croft in a way that very few actors embody a character that completely. They do not agree on much else. Phil's issues are with the script, specifically a 45-minute delay before the film bothers to explain what is actually at stake. Harmony's defense is that this is video game logic, anything is possible, and sometimes you just want to watch someone cool do cool things. Emily ran into Angelina Jolie at a grocery store once and has thoughts.Daniel Craig is also in this movie. Nobody can identify what accent he is doing. Emily has a theory involving one specific block in Lincoln, Nebraska. This is the second installment of the miniseries on Angelina Jolie's 2000s action films, following Gone in 60 Seconds.Follow the show and guests:Podcast Like It's... — https://www.instagram.com/podcastlikeitsPhil Iscove — https://www.instagram.com/pmiscoveEmily St. James — https://www.instagram.com/emilystjamsBJ Colangelo — https://www.instagram.com/bjcolangeloHarmony Colangelo — https://www.instagram.com/harmonycolangeloThis Ends at Prom — https://www.instagram.com/thisendsatprom

Now we're looking at this culture through a new lens: primatology. Isabel Behncke is an evolutionary anthropologist and a Burning Man Project Board Member. From tracking bonobos in the jungle to observing humans on playa, she shares her groundbreaking research on ritual and play. In this mind-expanding conversation, she and Stuart explore:
This culture started in dust and ephemerality. We build metropolises of art and fire, then we leave no trace. How do we translate that inspiration into a rhythm for everyday life? What happens when a temporary autonomous zone puts down roots? The Borderland is Scandinavia's largest and longest running Burning Man Regional event. It's "working out loud" culture fosters radical trust, allowing the community to create its own world where no one is in charge. The community also crowd-funded land that serves as the permanent home for their Regional event, and year-round collaborations of all kinds. How does the Borderland commit to the risk and reward of community buy-in? How does trusting that someone will have the answer lead to resiliency? How do the 10 Principles balance aspects of Scandinavian culture differently than US culture? Hear Andie set it up, then Stuart talk with Liselotte Norman and Hampus Lindblad. This week on the Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report, we're digging into early spring patterns across the Gulf Coast, and there's a lot starting to take shape if you're paying attention. Butch Thierry and Dylan Kiene kick things off with Captain Tanner Deas of Dauphin Island Fishing Charters, who's been dialed in on a strong sheepshead bite around nearshore structure. Tanner breaks down how small differences in docks, rocks, and current seams are holding fish right now, why crabs are dramatically outfishing shrimp, and how anglers can still put together big numbers even from shore when conditions keep them off the rigs. From there, they talk with Sam Sumlin of Community Fly Shop in Gulf Shores, who's been exploring the backwaters and finding one of the most unique bites we've heard in a while. From big river trout to a 20-plus pound striped bass and even snook showing up in the same systems, Sam walks through how he's approaching these mixed-bag fisheries on fly, what he's seeing with bait movement, and how to fish structure and bank lines when you truly don't know what might eat next. They wrap things up with Captain King Marchand of Capt. Mike's Fishing, where the offshore action has been just as strong. Swordfish success, yellowfin tuna, and solid bottom fishing closer to shore all point to a wide-open spring if the weather lines up. Between delayed trout movement, aggressive sheepshead spawning behavior, and some wild multi-species opportunities popping up inshore, this is one of those weeks where staying flexible might be the difference between a slow trip and one you won't forget. In this week's Northwest Florida Fishing Report, host Joe Baya tracks a late March transition with a strong offshore update out of Destin and an inshore speckled trout report from the Pensacola area. This episode features Capt. Adam Peoples of One Shot Charters on wahoo, swordfish, and open-water tuna action, plus Capt. Evan Wheeler of Tall Pines Tight Lines on pre-spawn trout behavior during a stretch of changing weather. The big theme this week is that spring opportunities are building, but anglers still need to adjust to shifting conditions and stay flexible day to day. Joe starts offshore with Capt. Adam Peeples of One Shot Charters in Destin. Adam breaks down a weekend that included a wahoo bite at the FADs, steady swordfish action, and open-water tuna schools pushing bait on the surface. He explains how he likes to slow troll a varied spread for wahoo, why he sticks with mono instead of wire on diving plugs, and what anglers should look for when rigging spinning setups for tuna on swimbaits. Next, Joe heads inshore with Capt. Evan Wheeler of Tall Pines Tight Lines for a Pensacola-area trout report. Evan says March remains a tough but rewarding transition month, with fish shifting between winter and spring patterns depending on temperature, tide, and daily conditions. He explains how big trout are balancing warmth, forage, and spawning movement, and he shares a detailed look at confidence baits, search baits, and why lure choice should match depth, cover, and the specific type of trout fishing you are trying to do. To wrap, Joe and Evan look ahead to the next couple of weeks and agree that the late March to early April window should keep producing chances at quality trout, especially as conditions settle and fish move closer to a true spring pattern. It's tense, emotional, and it definitely made us think twice about our next family reunion!Fun Flix Fact: Despite the heavy on-screen drama, the cast spent their breaks having high-stakes board game tournaments on set. On the night of November 11, 1940, the HMS Illustrious launched two waves of Swordfish torpedo bombers against the Italian fleet anchored at Taranto. Despite losing formation in the clouds and facing intense anti-aircraft fire, the British pilots pressed home their attacks against the Italian battleships. When the smoke cleared, three battleships—the Littorio, Conti di Cavour, and Duilio—had been torpedoed and damaged, with the Cavour never returning to service. This episode covers the dramatic night attack, the damage inflicted on the Italian fleet, and the aftermath that shifted the balance of naval power in the Mediterranean while providing a glimpse of the future of carrier-based warfare. RootHub (aka Aloha) weaves the core values and shared struggle of building Black Rock City and his work in Hawai‘i. He draws inspiration from the Hawaiian people's concept of kuleana (responsibility to the land and community). When he's not building BRC with DPW, or playing music to amplify people's stories, he's diverting food waste from landfills and incinerators into much needed, nutrient-dense soil for growing food. He does this through his companies. The names say it all:· Full Circle Solutions Hawaii· Leftover Love Company ("We love your leftovers")Hear how ingenuity learned on the playa—along with a sense of humor—allows him to overcome hurdles and create meaningful change in BRC and in Hawai'i, even with the naive tourists.Through sweet story and song, he shares how to combine innovation with tradition, to lift the stone without lifting the weight of the stone.roothub.comleftoverloveco.comfullcirclesolutionshi.comburningman.org/black-rock-city/infrastructure/dept-of-public-works LIVE.BURNINGMAN.ORG

Recorded in Black Rock City, you can hear the grainy gravitas of our voices...For decades now, Jon Sarriugarte, Krysten Mate, their daughter and their team build mobile art. From a meter maid cart turned space shuttle, to a custom copper retro fire snail on wheels, their creations make up part of BRC's moving landscape. They built a trilobite to ride, a gilded golden zeppelin car, and a noir submarine buggy. Then there are the Serpent Twins. Back in 2011, when the playa glowed with now outdated EL wire, these 50-foot long slithering dragons rippled with color just by touching their LED skin. What about this green insect rocket?Project: EMPIRE returned to BRC with even more sights, sounds, and stories. It's a NASA spaceship and a giant bug, a bewildering blend of art, engineering, and a delightfully conspiratorial backstory… On playa we tracked down Jon and his daughter Zolie who has been Burning her entire life. They shared stories of the absurd early days, and the adventure of navigating the desert in a two-ton masterpiece. We talked about bringing radical self-reliance to the default world, and the mechanics of a legacy built, piece by painstaking piece, in the name of art.formandreform.com/empire-of-dirtprojectempire.orgoilpunk.com20 Years of Mutant Vehicles (Burning Man Journal) LIVE.BURNINGMAN.ORG
