In sports, the Brewers start a three-game series at home against the Yankees tonight, a recap of last night's NBA & NHL Playoffs along with a look at the upcoming games on the schedule, the Badgers/Notre Dame game at Lambeau Field gets a kick-off time, and Aaron Rodgers is apparently going to play for the Steelers again this upcoming season. Cool story about a small town in Minnesota(St. James) that recently hosted a donkey basketball fundraiser for local emergency responders. Students, teachers, and first responders played a basketball game while riding on donkeys and they wound up raising $4,000 to help pay for new CPR devices for the community. And a bunch of students in Australia rescued an injured man during a remote hike! Elsewhere in sports, the NCAA men's & women's tournaments get one step close to expanding, Brian's BFF Johnny "F-ing" Damon gets inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame, and the outrageous prices for World Cup tickets! Even the President thinks it's out of control. Doc joined us just after 8am for a new NASCAR racing report thanks to County Materials in Holmen & Eau Claire. A deep friendship between scientist and High School teacher Ryland Grace and an alien resembling a smaller version of Galaxy Quest's rock monster, brings together friends from the LAMB to sing it's praises. "Project Hail Mary" based on a novel from the same author as "The Martian", Andy Weir, postulates a natural element as the source of Earth's demise, as well as significant parts of the universe. Ryan Gosling goes to space to look for solutions, and although it looks like he might be alone, the universe has other plans. An all new Appreciation Month is upon us here at Cinema Degeneration and this time we are delving into the twisted works and mind of the one and only Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg whose career started in the late 1960's! It's a month long (maybe longer) celebration of all things body horror, strange killers, telekinesis, rampant diseases, sexual perversions, more body horror, technological mutations, oh and did we mention body horror??? This week, we examine the first half of the '80s to ask the question - which artists had the best run during that span? Bringing us the funny sugar in this episode is our friend Jack (where our fellow '60s music nerds at?!?). That's right, Jack Rabid, publisher/writer for The Big Takeover magazine and drummer for '80s New York hardcore band Even Worse and dreamy '90s indie band Springhouse is our Third Lad this week. Springhouse released two albums of sparkling, melancholy guitar pop for Caroline Records in the early '90s - 1991's Land Falls and 1993's Postcards From The Attic. They were the first major label signed, nationally touring U.S. "shoegaze" band, with the 'Layers' video getting MTV airplay, and sharing stages with the likes of House of Love, The Chills, Psychedelic Furs, Belly, and the Lemonheads. In 2008, the band returned for a melodic, orchestral-pop masterpiece on Independent Project Records, From Now To OK.
