Deep in the burrows, the Inquisitorial agents heard the screams of people facing off with Drukhari in the darkness of the tunnels. Solomon and the Judge hid amongst the burning shacks and prepared an ambush. Humans emerged and staggered towards them wearing explosive collars, forced to curse the Emperor, follow by a large, floating pirate-like ship bearing twelve Kabalite warriors. Damien hurled a flaming sphere onto the ship, hitting several enemies and setting the sails ablaze, and Morgan took careful aim and took out the heavy gunner. Solomon cleaved another warrior in two, and the Judge used his shock maul to smash the warrior bearing down on Solomon, then set Rex 2 to finish it off. In the dark distance, the agents could hear Drukhari attacking Imperial citizens. Damien gave his data slate to one of the burrow citizens so they could follow the map and lead others through the weakened void shield. As they moved towards the combat zone, Solomon noticed two Drukhari Hellions waiting in ambush. Damien threw warp fire at them, the Judge electrified one with his shock maul and ordered Blood Ball to join the attack, and Morgan yelled at the xenos in their own language, commanding them to go back to the warp. Out of the darkness, a Jetbike bearing a terrifying rider with its sword out, raced past Solomon and just barely missed him. Damien realized that the chorus of screams they had heard was actually from the Jetbikes, he recalled that a dark sect of the Aeldari used those types of fear tactics, and the agents found themselves facing off against three Drukhari. The team's training paid off and, though they were injured, they managed to fight off their immediate threat. But as the Drukhari peeled away, they could hear human screams in the distance, and it became clear that this initial skirmish was merely the Drukhari's advance guard. Grungus Took's death took the troupe by surprise. Guy and Del investigated the scene of the crime and hoped the trail of muddy footprints would lead them to a suspect. Adam went to report the news to the dwarves, but they wouldn't let him in to see his father. Even worse, the one dwarf that Adam had actually connected with died suddenly in a freak accident. After Gandalf retold the tale of his imprisonment by Saruman, he told Del that the dwarves suspected that Grungus had sold them out and used the ring to get the dragon's treasures for himself, so they headed to the brothel to question Grungus directly. Adam and Guy also went there looking for Grungus, but arrived shortly after the others to find the hobbit had been stabbed to death. The agents entered the burrows to find a city beneath a city with an entire society functioning with good people and a sense of community, even though they were clearly suffering. Morgan discovered a vent system and entered it to access the void shield generators that were being used to block off areas that had been purged and prevent escape in the upcoming purge. At the shield generator, Damien recalled a phrase that had been used by the Flayed Man regarding Talos Ivo, and suggested it might be the password to the generator. The fact that it worked suggested that Talos Ivo and the events on Arcturus IV were connected to the situation in the Hawkstar system. They lowered the shield power just enough to pass through with some difficulty without setting off alerts that the shield had been altered, and made their way back to the main thoroughfare. They ordered everyone to evacuate, but as everyone started running, a massive booming wave rushed towards them, taking out the lights in the tunnels. After a surprise meeting with Werner Herzog, the Fellowgroup attended the Council of Elrond, where they learned the history of the Rings of Power and debated what to do with the One Ring. She herself had triggered the emergency beacon when she became concerned about the excessiveness of the purges. After Solomon let slip the Judge's name, Beatrice realized they were Inquisition. She provided them with a map to navigate the burrows, as well as the deceased Judge's data slate for Rex to review. They learned that the late Judge had allowed the pirates to operate since they provided vital services to the general population, preventing potential uprising against a government that left its people to fend for themselves. Morgan researched the important members of the family and determined that the recent assassinations were much more likely carried out by those within the family, rather than the pirates. Their Administratum guide revealed that the materials mined within the system are ceramite and auramite, which are crucial for the production of armour for the Adeptus Astartes and the Adeptus Custodes. The Fellowgroup faced the Ford of Bruinen, the final obstacle between them and the safety of Rivendell. Guy threw off a few of the pursuing Ringwraiths by shooting Yolo's bell into the trees, while Yolo encountered a terrifying vision of a great eye. Meanwhile, Adam secured the chain crossing the river, Tyler waded in but became blinded and deafened by the rushing water, and Del tried to get to Tyler but slipped. The troupe faced off against the terrifying Ringwraiths! After Guy's arrow missed its target, he took off with the hobbits to get them out of harm's way. Del was tasked with finding a ranger who can help and then follow her instincts to the hobbit. So, she departed, slightly drunk, and headed east, and eventually happened upon a hobbit being threatened at sword-point by a man demanding if he has the ring. The troupe approached the gate leading into Bree and unintentionally convinced the guards they were inept enough to not be a threat. Making their way through town, a server from The Prancing Pony invited them to perform at the bar in return for free accommodations, but first Adam and Guy needed proper pants. Adam found himself miraculously clad in a kilt, so they made their way to a tailor's shop to clothe Guy. When they failed to flatter the proprietor into giving them free clothes, they instead traded their one slice of pizza and empty Tylenol bottle. The troupe continued to fight the goblins. Adam failed to tame the dog-man, Guy noticed the goblins were sensitive to sunlight and set their tarp on fire to destroy their shade, and Tyler, who had run away, realized the others hadn't followed him, so he came back to help finish things off. They then performed the unsavoury task of searching the bodies and found a crude drawing depicting hobbits and a ring, suggesting the hobbits were the targets of more than just the Black Riders. Wet Change, sans Del, set out east towards the town of Bree. They happened upon the violent willow tree, decided not to burn it down just yet, and travelled across a difficult landscape until they came across a group of goblins. Not wanting to fight, Tyler and Adam tried to run away, and Guy climbed a tree, but still they were discovered. Adam and Guy threw Baguettes and branches, but it was only the rising sun that had the strange creatures drawing back into cover. As the goblins scrambled away, a strange dog-like man in their camp broke free. With Del away on a mysterious adventure of her own, the rest of the troupe rested at Bombadil's house and equipped themselves for the task ahead. Tolkien gave Tyler a broken sword, Guy had the forethought to ask for food and water, and Adam dressed himself in an improvised hat and poorly-constructed toga. The troupe departed and found themselves naturally taking on specific roles within the group: Tyler as the Guide, Adam as the resourceful Hunter, and Guy as the observant Scout.
