What motivated you to make this film? Without getting into too much detail, I basically saw that I had an opportunity to work with a director to create my vision of a black-and-white, silent, horror, film, and I approached him with it and luckily, he agreed to work with me on it. I always wanted to make a silent horror film that would've been like the first slasher film ever made but also like a lost film from the 30s that we're just discovering nowadays. And I wanted it to be violent, but also fitting with the times and I knew I had the chance to use a lot of great sets and I have an eye for buying the right pieces for the costumes and props. Basically this was in my head for years and I saw the opportunity to work with the right director to get this done. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video? I was actually pleasantly impressed and excited by how much they seem to like the story and the acting, which was my doing. But I'm glad they also talked a lot about the cinematography which was my director's doing. We made a good team and this film never would've been made if it wasn't for both of us bringing our talents to it. We often use the phrase, “That came out wrong.” Kathleen Edelman joins us today to talk about getting communication right the first time.Kathleen Edelman is the author of “I Said This, You Heard That: How Your Wiring Colors Your Communication.” She is certified in Biblical Studies and Christian Counseling Psychology and has spent more than 30 years coaching clients in the art of communication.Temperament vs. Personality: What's the Difference?Many of us think of communication in terms of personality, but temperament is actually a concept rooted in ancient studies by Hippocrates. While personality is shaped by factors like life experiences and birth order, temperament is hardwired and unchangeable—like your eye color or fingerprint.Temperament defines how we naturally respond to various situations. Understanding it can transform how we approach everything, from relationships to finances.The Four Temperaments: What Are They?Kathleen's work breaks down temperaments into four distinct categories, each with its own language and motivations. Here's a brief overview:Sanguine (Yellow): These individuals are motivated by people and fun. Their financial goals are often tied to exciting future plans, like saving for a dream vacation.Choleric (Red): Cholerics are goal-driven visionaries. Give them a financial target, and they'll hit it with precision, always eager to set the next goal.Melancholic (Blue): Melancholics crave safety and order. They plan meticulously, ensuring that they are financially prepared for all eventualities.Phlegmatic (Green): Phlegmatics seek harmony and tend to have a laid-back attitude toward money. They are often the most challenging to get on a budget but can be motivated by long-term, meaningful goals.Communication and Finances: The ConnectionUnderstanding your own temperament—and that of your spouse or financial advisor—can lead to more effective communication, especially when it comes to managing money. For example, if you are married to a melancholic, they'll want to feel financially safe, which means they'll be focused on saving and planning for the future. Conversely, a sanguine needs a fun or people-centered motivation to stick to a financial plan.By learning to "speak" each other's language, couples can create harmony in their finances, much like they do in other areas of their relationship.Strengths, Weaknesses, and Innate NeedsEach temperament has a set of strengths and weaknesses. While our weaknesses may seem burdensome, they help us appreciate and manage our strengths. For example, a melancholic's focus on safety can sometimes lead to anxiety, but when managed well, it ensures a secure financial future.Another concept we should familiarize ourselves with is "innate needs"—non-negotiable motivators that drive each temperament. In China, shipyards that were distressed assets just years ago are now highly sought after. And if you happened to buy into some back then, congratulations; you likely stand to make a windfall profit. Shanghai-headquartered DCL Investments made one such shrewd play more than two years ago. It invested in restructuring bankrupt Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding at bargain prices, becoming the yard's controlling shareholder in July 2024. Now this facility, with over 300 acres of land, 2 km of Yangtze river frontage, and four slipways able to produce up to 18 merchant ships annually, is generating positive cashflow by leasing to other shipbuilders. It could also bring DCL Investments a hefty return if snapped up by the next buyer. Behind this story is the unfolding of the latest shipbuilding cycle: orderbooks swell, ship prices surge, yards' profits rebound, and capacity expands. But spectres of the past haunt: will rampant overordering end in yet another devastating crash? Those who lived through the order bubble prior to the 2008 financial crisis can't help but worry about history repeating itself. Sanguine voices, however, counter history won't simply repeat. This cycle still has room to run, optimists say, fuelled by fleet renewal demand amid massive levels of aging tonnage and tightening emissions rules absent in the frenzied 2000s. In New York, he made his Broadway debut in “Festen,” a stage adaptation of Thomas Vinterberg's film THE CELEBRATION, and starred in Beau Willimon's “Spirit Control”, about a man's 30-year struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder.
