The Sun is four and a half billion years old – a third of the age of the universe. Compared to the stars in globular clusters, though, it’s a youngster. Those stars were born when the universe was young. An example is Messier 3 – a family of about half a million stars. The cluster is about 11.4 billion years old. That means its stars were born just a couple of billion years after the Big Bang. All of the cluster’s remaining original stars are fainter and less massive than the Sun. Anything heavier than the Sun has exhausted its nuclear fuel, leaving only a corpse – a small, dense, faint remnant. And astronomers have seen quite a few of these remnants in M3. But the dead stars are tough to find inside the crowded cluster. Some of the stars of Messier 3 are more massive than the Sun. But they weren’t born that way. Instead, they’ve grown by cannibalizing companion stars. Some of them have pulled gas off the surface of a companion. Others have merged with a companion. Either process adds to a star’s mass. That makes the star brighter and bluer – making it look a lot younger that it really is. This huge cluster of ancient stars is about 34,000 light-years away. It’s in the constellation Canes Venatici, the hunting dogs. M3 isn’t quite bright enough to see with the eye alone, but it’s an easy target for binoculars. The universe is put together like Swiss cheese – some regions are the cheese; others are the holes. The “cheese” consists of clusters and superclusters of galaxies. The “holes” are just that – cosmic voids. The largest voids span more than a billion light-years. Cosmic voids were discovered half a century ago. Astronomers were looking deep enough into the universe to map its structure on the largest scale. They’d expected the universe to look the same in all directions – a smooth blend of galaxies. Instead, they found a web – overlapping filaments of galaxies, with big spaces between. The voids might be there because there were tiny differences in the density of matter in the early universe – especially dark matter. The gravity in the denser regions pulled material together to make stars and galaxies. That left the less-dense regions almost empty. They contain a few galaxies, some gas and dust, and some dark matter, but not much else. More than 6,000 voids have been cataloged. They clump together to make supervoids. One of the closest is the Boštes Void – “the Great Nothing.” It’s centered about 700 million light-years away, and it spans more than 300 million light-years – a giant “hole” in the universe. Boštes climbs into view in early evening. Look for the bright yellow-orange star Arcturus, which is low in the east by 9 or 10 o’clock. The Great Nothing stretches to the upper left of Arcturus. Dr. David Clements was a professional string theory physicist with advanced degrees from Cambridge and Oxford Universities. During his university teaching career, he worked with Dr. Thomas Bearden and John Bedini, who introduced him to their respective theories and inventions based on the work of Nikola Tesla. In 2000, Dr. Clements.  received a remote viewing kit, which he used to teach himself to use with stunning accuracy. I have been trying for years to interview Sal. His books are mindblowing and it was nice to finally get a chance to speak with him. Sal Rachele is a pioneer in the human potential field. In the mid-1970s, he became interested in developing his psychic and intuitive abilities and took Silva Mind Control training. Sal later developed his own unique method called Alpha-Theta Programming, which is designed to reprogram the subconscious mind and unlock the creative potential within. Sal became involved in Leonard Orr's Rebirthing and Jim Leonard's Integrative Rebirthing, a yoga of breath and conscious purification. In the 1980s, he did extensive work combining guided meditations, original piano music, and psychic counseling in his work. He recorded several cassettes and one CD of his original New Age classical melodies. Mercury is a fine sighting early in the evenings in August near the Western horizon. Mercury, Regulus and Venus are visible till an hour after sunset On the 6th, Mercury, Regulus and Venus form a triangle with the thin crescent moon. Venus is climbing higher and becoming more prominent as the ‘Evening Star' Saturn is rising about 8:30 in the evening and is best telescopically a few hours later when it is higher. Saturns Rings are almost edge on at the moment. Morning Sky Mars has been heading towards Jupiter and the horizon, and in the first week of August lands in the constellation Taurus, forming a second red ‘eye' with Aldabaran in the bull's head. Between the 12th and 17th Mars and Jupiter are less than a finger width apart, and on the 15th, less than half a finger width apart. Looking East and North East in the morning, the Pliades Cluster, Hyades Cluster, Mars, Jupiter and Aldabaran are making interesting patters throughout the month. Capturing a recurrent Nova Explosion About an hour and a half after sunset when the sky is completely dark, you look North and a little bit West, you'll spot the bright star Arcturus, then if you look down and a little to the right, you'll see a circle of stars called Corona Borealis. Its mass must be smaller than can have fusion occurring Its mass must be enough to clear its orbit. Yesterday the ESA released an image of a ‘Cold Jupiter' named Epsilon Indi Ab. The planet is several times the mass of Jupiter and orbits the K-type star Epsilon Indi A (Eps Ind A), which is around the age of our Sun, but slightly cooler. The team observed Epsilon Indi Ab using the coronagraph on Webb's MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument). Of the 5000+ exoplanets known to date, only a few tens of exoplanets have been directly imaged previously by space- and ground-based observatories. "This discovery is exciting because the planet is quite similar to Jupiter — it is a little warmer and is more massive, but is more similar to Jupiter than any other planet that has been imaged so far,” quoted lead author Elisabeth Matthews of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Germany.

In 2003, George Kavassilas had a life-changing experience with a group of extraterrestrials from Sirius, Arcturus, and Lyra star systems, whom he deems his galactic family. He says that after being transported from a Sirian scout ship to a larger mothership with many races on board, he had an out-of-body experience where his consciousness went on a journey where he encountered the fractal nature of all reality. Kavassilas' out of body experience propelled him into a new understanding of one's soul essence as a fractal of a much larger universal consciousness. He believes that the human avatar body is unique insofar as we can experience the full fractal nature of our universe and the more expansive omniverse, while other extraterrestrials can only do so partially. One year later, Kavassilas was abducted by an agency within the Pentagon responsible for tracking individuals who have had extraterrestrial contact or profound physical frequency charges. He says he met with former US President George H.W. Bush, and was tortured and experienced mind wipes. After his 2003 experience he accepted an ambassadorial position with what he called the Galactic Confederation of Light for a couple of years, but has since stopped working directly with any extraterrestrial organization. Kavassilas asserts that while there are both positive and negative extraterrestrial organizations, they all to varying degrees ultimately promote an imperial project. Russian astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm von Struve discovered and catalogued thousands of binary stars — pairs of stars that are gravitationally bound to each other. But a system that he first saw in 1829 was so striking that he gave it a special name: Pulcherrima — “the most beautiful.” It honors the contrasting colors of the two stars. One looks pale orange, while the other looks blue-white or even green. The system is also known by an even older name: Izar, “the girdle,” because it represents the middle of Boötes, the herdsman. Regardless of what you call it, most skywatchers agree with Struve: Seen through a telescope, the pair is quite beautiful. The orange star is a giant. It's burned through its original hydrogen fuel and is nearing the end of its life. As a result, it's puffed up to many times the diameter of the Sun. That “puffiness” caused the star's outer layers to cool, which is why it looks orange. Its companion is much hotter, so it shines almost pure white. It looks blue or green only when it's compared to the orange star. It's less massive than the companion, so it has a lot longer to go before it reaches its own “giant” phase. Boötes is in the east as night falls. Look for its brightest star, brilliant yellow-orange Arcturus. Izar is the first noticeable star to the left of Arcturus. To the eye alone, it looks like a single point of light. But a telescope reveals the true nature of this colorful duo. Script by Damond Benningfield

The star Arcturus is a little bit heavier than our own star, the Sun. Yet that small difference has a big effect on the star's evolution: Arcturus entered a late stage billions of years earlier than the Sun will. Arcturus is one of the brighter stars in the night sky, and shines yellow-orange. Both of those traits are a result of its stage in life, which was triggered by its mass. Mass is the key to how quickly a star consumes the hydrogen in its core. The gravity of a heavier star squeezes its core more tightly, making it hotter. That revs up the star's nuclear engine, causing it to “burn” through the hydrogen faster than a less massive star. When the hydrogen is gone, the core shrinks and gets even hotter. The star's outer layers then expand and cool, making its surface look redder. In technical terms, the star becomes a red giant. And that's what's happened with Arcturus. So even though it's only about eight percent more massive than the Sun, it's 25 times wider and a couple of hundred times brighter. And its surface is cooler, so it looks redder than the Sun. Arcturus is about seven billion years old. That's older than the Sun, but not as old as the Sun will be when it becomes a giant: It won't reach that stage of life until it's more than 10 billion years old. A sprinkling of faint stars stands in the east a few hours after sunset right now. It's to the upper right of brilliant Arcturus, the brightest star in that part of the sky. Those ribbons of stars are the main features of Coma Berenices. The constellation represents Queen Berenice II of Egypt. The legend says that when her husband was about to head into battle, she offered her beautiful golden hair to the gods in exchange for his safety. When he returned undamaged, she cut her hair and placed it in a temple. Legend says the gods then placed it in the stars. The brightest of those stars, Beta Coma, looks a lot like the Sun. It's about the same size, mass, and brightness. It's also about the same color — fittingly enough, bright gold, which shows up in binoculars or a telescope. Long-term observations reveal that Beta Coma produces a 16-and-a-half-year magnetic cycle — half again the length of the solar cycle. During that cycle, the star probably goes through periods of high and low magnetic activity. During active times, more of the dark storms known as “starspots” probably speckle its surface — the result of lines of magnetic force getting twisted and stretched. When they snap, they produce powerful outbursts known as flares — eruptions that are equal to millions or billions of nuclear bombs.
