I'm going to make a quick confession to you here: The Battle of Britain is one of my three favorite parts of all of human history. The other two would be the Roman Empire at the time of Jesus, and then the American Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution, and the Constitution, all of that right as the US was being founded. And then this, the Battle of Britain. Why is this one one of my favorites periods? Well, it's got it all: a clear villain, a heroic underdog who fights valiantly, a moment when all seems lost, and then a sudden change of fortunes as the tide begins to turn. The battle of Helm's Deep, or the Battle of Minas Tirith - this has the same narrative arc. Plus, it has some of the most amazing airplanes that ever flew, which I will get to in a bit. The American war for Independence was cool, but they didn't have Spitfires or Messerschmitts. Neither did Minas Tirith. I guess Mordor did have the Nazgul on their flying lizards, but that's not quite the same. Anyway, this was one of those crucial turning points in history, where if it had gone differently, even by a small bit, our modern world would not be the same. It really was a pretty close shave. email: shortwalkthroughhistory@gmail.com

He is co-author with Jason Jones of “God, Guns, & the Government.” John Zmirak's new book: No Second Amendment, No First by John Zmirak Available March 19, 2024 Today's Left endlessly preaches the evils of “gun violence." It is a message increasingly echoed from the nation's pulpits, presented as common-sense decency and virtue. Calls for “radical non-violence” are routinely endowed with the imprimatur of religious doctrine. But what if such teachings were misguided, even damaging? What if the potential of a citizenry to exercise force against violent criminals and tyrannical governments is not just compatible with church teaching, but flows from the very heart of Biblical faith and reason? What if the freedoms we treasure are intimately tied to the power to resist violent coercion? This is the long-overdue case John Zmirak makes with stunning clarity and conviction in No Second Amendment, No First. A Yale-educated journalist and former college professor, Zmirak shows how the right of self-defense against authoritarian government was affirmed in both the Old and New Testaments, is implied in Natural Law, and has been part of Church tradition over the centuries. Zmirak further shows how today's mounting threats to the gun rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment are inexorably linked to the Article from John Zmirak. Elon and His Team Inside the Deep State Are Frodo and Sam in Mordor By John Zmirak Published on February 12, 2025 John Zmirak The more we see our country's ruling elites in action, using unelected judges to twist the Constitution and deprive our elected president of his legitimate authority, the more crucial it is for us to embrace a paradigm shift. We must change how we see our government and the system we now live under — radically. Perhaps because for the past three Mondays I've been viewing the extended, almost four-hour versions of Peter Jackson's masterful The Lord of Rings trilogy, I can't help viewing the paradigm shift we need in Tolkien's mythic terms. Put bluntly, we don't live in Gondor under the flawed steward Denethor anymore, as we did in past decades. Or even in Rohan, with King Theoden bewitched by his evil advisor Wormtongue (and behind him the wizard Saruman). We live in Mordor. Yes, it's a place where elves and the Men of the West have just scored a rare, if incomplete victory. But the war is far from over. The rulers of Mordor weaponized the COVID panic to impose a public health dictatorship, lock us in our homes, close our churches, censor our media, force untested vaccines into our arms, kill our seniors by dumping virus patients in nursing homes, then incincerating them as medical waste, graft the cells of newly aborted babies onto the scalps of mice (using taxpayer funds, approved by Regime evangelical Francis Collins, never criticized by globalist Pope Francis), steal the 2020 election, and imprison peaceful protestors. The people who did all that weren't misguided, overzealous, or grossly misinformed. They were orcs, and their leaders were Nazgul. They were hungry for absolute power — and for a while they seemed to have it. At least they acted that way — as if the whip would always be in their hands no matter what we did. That's why such people felt entitled to gloat when patriotic black entrepreneur Hermann Cain died of COVID after attending a Donald Trump rally, even as they unleashed mobs of looters and rioters on our cities in honor of career criminal George Floyd. And now those same elites are using their top-notch legal teams and biased judges to cling to every scrap of money and power they took from us during the years of that dictatorship the same way that Communist judges in Poland clung to their privileges after Solidarity got elected and loyal Nazis tried to keep their privileges after 1945. How else to explain a federal judge telling the appointed, duly confirmed Secretary of the Treasury that he can't view his own department's computer files? Or demanding that race-based discrimination be reimposed — against the president's policies? As I watched The Return of the King, with Frodo and Sam cautiously working their way into the heart of Sauron's kingdom, aiming to hurl the corrupting Ring of Power into the fires where it was forged, I couldn't help thinking of the hobbits attempting to do the same for us right now: Elon Musk and his plucky team of brilliant young hackers and analysts. They're the ones exposing the “humanitarian” programs of USAID that tried to convince young African boys that they might be trans, to intimidate Latin American governments into legalizing abortion, and to censor the global media in support of the COVID lockdowns and the useless Ukraine war. Just yesterday, the news broke that in only three weeks, they've saved American taxpayers a BILLION dollars — the vast majority of it coming from cutting DEI efforts within government programs. And now Musk's team members are being hunted, getting doxed and demonized in our media, with corrupt prosecutors and judges seeking ways to cripple their efforts and maybe even arrest them (as they arrested and imprisoned Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro). What can we do on these heroes' behalf? First of all we can pray, and it's our duty to get busy doing that. Secondly we can emulate what Aragorn, Gandalf, and the other heroes did after defending Minas Tirith: They marched to Sauron's gate, braved the full force of his armies, and took his attention away from the genuine threat he faced. We must do a similar service for Trump and his team. We must loudly support whatever peaceful measures, whatever innovative deployment of presidential power he attempts, to defy these biased judges and impose the will of the people — as expressed in the 2024 election, which the orcs weren't able to steal. Pope Francis Goes Full Alexander VI, Appointing Leftist Bishops Who Wield Excommunication Threats A pope more interested in leftist politics than in maintaining his church's historic teachings or protecting children from harm has started meddling directly in the enforcement of our country's just, democratically enacted laws: The Vatican has appointed Edward Weisenburger to be Archbishop of Detroit. As Lifesitenews reports: In 2018, at the USCCB's Spring Assembly in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the prelate suggested that Catholics who “are involved” in the detention of immigrants and separation of families at the U.S. border might receive “canonical penalties” usually used in “life issues” cases, which could include excommunication. “For the salvation of these people's souls, maybe it's time for us to look at canonical penalties,” Weisenburger claimed at the time. In other words, if you're a Catholic who advocates for a secure U.S. border and only legal immigration going forward, this guy wants to see you excommunicated. Make no mistake, Weisenburger spent the COVID panic serving the Nazgul and the orcs: The 64-year-old Weisenburger, a canon lawyer, was among the most stringent in America in applying restrictions on the faithful during the COVID crisis, closing churches and implementing mask mandates in the spring of 2020 while encouraging Catholics to take the abortion-tainted COVID-19 jabs. Weisenburger released a statement in September 2021 instructing all priests within his Arizona diocese “not to cooperate with any individuals seeking our endorsement of an exemption from vaccine or facemask mandates based specifically upon our Catholic faith.” He added that “[a]ll current anti-COVID-19 vaccines may be received by the faithful without moral compromise.” Upon reopening churches to public Masses in October 2020, the bishop stressed that the dispensation from attendance “remains in place and I have consistently encouraged those identified by the Centers for Disease Control as ‘at-risk' to not attend Mass in person, but rather to view a televised or internet Mass from home.” He also issued a directive to priests not to distribute Holy Communion in the mouth and to only hear the Sacrament of Confession outdoors. Later, in 2021, Weisenburger signed a letter alongside eight other U.S. prelates aligning themselves with the LGBT activist group Tyler Clementi Foundation, which seeks to “reduce the shame and stigma” of homosexual lifestyles. In line with Pope Francis, the archbishop-elect has also made “climate change” a central issue, calling it a matter of “life and death” and thanking the Pope for focusing on the topic in his encyclical Laudato Si' and subsequent apostolic exhortation Laudate Deum. The Pope Rebukes J.D. Vance for Repeating Real Catholic Doctrine Pope Francis has gone further, issuing a document implicitly rebuking Vice President J.D. Vance (a Catholic convert) for reiterating traditional Catholic (and perennial Christian teaching) that we owe special duties to our families, neighbors, and fellow citizens that we don't owe to foreign invaders or fake asylum seekers. In his statement, Francis condemns “any measure that tacitly or explicitly identifies the illegal status of some migrants with criminality.” Never mind that the Catholic Catechism teaches that to earn the right to welcome, immigrants must obey their new countries' laws. According to Francis, doing illegal things isn't “criminal,” and if you can't wrap your mind around that logic, you might find yourself outside the church. Will patriotic Catholics cave at the threat of unjust (and therefore in God's eyes, null and void) excommunications? Not if they're like Trump's border czar Tom Homan: Don't miss Jules Gomes's coverage later this morning of the corrupt, scandal-plagued Vatican aid agency CARITAS, which soaks up U.S. taxpayer money and whose leader is joining Francis's chorus of sycophants denouncing American law and demanding that Catholics flout it. Along The Stream… Up later this morning, be sure to watch the great Naomi Wolf expose the extent to which forced vaccination laws backed by Big Pharma still impinge on parents' rights to watch over their children's health. Also later today, Pastor Shane Idleman offers a powerful video message on biblical self-discipline, self-control, and the corporal means we can use to achieve those, including fasting. John Zmirak is a senior editor at The Stream and author or coauthor of 14 books, including The Politically Incorrect Guide to Immigration and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Catholicism. His newest book is No Second Amendment, No First.

Welcome to "Hearts of Oak," where today we delve into a profound discussion on spiritual revival and cultural transformation. Our guest, a pivotal figure in the American Christian movement, shares insights on the upcoming "A Million Women" event set for October 12. This gathering isn't just an event; it's a call to action for women across America to unite in prayer and fasting, mirroring the biblical Esther's stand against injustice. We explore the event's significance in addressing critical issues like abortion and the erosion of family values, and how it aims to be a catalyst for national repentance and revival. Our conversation also touches on the power of collective prayer, the impact of recent cultural shifts, and the urgent need for a unified Christian response to contemporary challenges. Join us as we discuss the role of faith in public life and how this movement might just be the spark needed for a sweeping moral restoration in America. Lou Engle is an intercessor for revival, and the visionary co-founder of TheCall, a prayer and fasting movement responsible for gathering hundreds of thousands around the globe. He has been involved in church planting, establishing prayer movements and strategic houses of prayer. Lou is the founder of the pro-life ministry Bound4Life. Now residing in Colorado Springs, he is married to his beautiful wife Therese and blessed with 7 wonderful children. He is the president of Lou Engle Ministries, recently launched to mobilize fasting and contending prayer, and to envision and empower stadium Christianity, and to ignite reformation prayer into the nations of the earth. For the past twenty-two years, Lou has been an international voice calling a generation to Nazirite consecration, fasting and prayer, and the pursuit of God's dreams for their lives through the ministry of TheCall. Lou has raised up prayer movements, has been a voice for the shifting of the supreme court for ending abortion, and has encouraged a movement of adoption to be the answer for the great injustice. Now, Lou is prophetically declaring that we are on the verge of the 3rd great awakening, and Jesus the evangelist will be manifested in great salvation and deliverance power. A mighty Jesus movement is coming to America, Billy Graham's mantle is falling on a new generation of evangelists, and streets and stadiums will be filled with a new song of God's salvation. Send us a Text Message.Zhuangzi tells the story of Tian Gen who meets the Man without a Name, one who wanders amongst and between the worlds, in a subtle realm with no borders. But how do we know when we have slipped into a subtle realm? There are a few indications: TIME feels different, flexible and shifting; PLACE is no longer so fixed and determinate; PERSONS manifest a light--or a darkness--depending upon the state they are inhabiting at the moment; and our STATE carries a feeling as if we are dreaming and yet alert and awake at one and the same time. This bonus episode continues to introduce material that will be important for understanding Chapters 23 and 24 of the Fat Monk when they appear. Welcome back to The Great Metal Debate podcast with a new album review, talking about the Nashville based black metal act Obsidian Shrine. This is the band's 3rd full-length studio album titled Dereliction of Divinity. For some reason, my mind went to that Incantation song "A Once Holy Throne" when I saw the song title "A Vacant Throne" but the two tracks sound nothing alike. Obsidian Shrine is a band who is heavily influenced by Marduk. Marduk was never a stand out to me personally as I feel like other talents in the Norwegian trve kvlt black metal scene have overshadowed them in terms of quality song writing. However, Murmur and Nazgul seem to have a way of making their guitar riffs pop as if they just know exactly how to harness the best elements from 2nd wave black metal like Gorgoroth and Dark Throne but give it a clean studio mix. Since I just blabbed on and on for filler sake, I'll remind you that this first track is called "A Vacant Throne" and if the former album is anything to go by, this one is loud, aggressive and in your face with the screeching banshees for vocals. They keep the raspy screams coming throughout the duration of not just this nearly 6 minute opening but the remaining 5 tracks as well. "A Vacant Throne" begins with the sound of howling wind before the early era Naglfar-esq riff and opening scream rips your face off. The drum work is speedy and unrelenting and the vocals are angry. Not to mention there is a brief but very sweet face melting guitar solo loaded with sweep picking. Next we have the song "Licentious Procession" which brings more vocals that sound even more venomous and you can really feel the seething hatred within the very few words you can actually pick out on the first handful of listens. The main rhythm guitar has a more memorable riff this time around but it's here where I must point out my first critique. I don't hear the bass at all in this music. I'm unsure if the Inquisition approach was intentional but this music could certainly benefit from having the 4 string turned up a little. "Obsolete Ideology" is the third track where this issue continued and in all honesty, it's not a track that I particularly remembered after my first listen but it later grew on me just a little. Still not my favorite track on this new record but it's still a blistering banger nonetheless. "Evil Has Its Day" is my favorite song on this album. As someone who thoroughly enjoys the melodic subgenre the most, it was refreshing to finally hear an undistorted guitar moment where the blast beats finally take a break. The blissfully sinister part comes with the nasally ghoul-like vocal break. Key components like this are what makes me pay the most attention. I wish there were more breaks on this album where different vocal styles or musical compositions come into play. I love the calming guitar riff just after the goblin vocals finish rolling its R's. It's short lived but still a great moment. The 5th track serves as a simple instrumental with long notes and a metronome drumbeat. Its meant to be an intermission or rather a prelude to the final song. Throughout we hear a loud mouthed TVangelist preacher fear mongering to all of his gullible followers. It leads nicely into the final song which happens to be the album title track. "Dereliction of Divinity" kicks off with black metal sound but after the first minute, we get a tempo change that slows to a grinding riff but the vocals stay the same. I'm glad the riff stays like this before the very Kerry King style guitar solo shreds in a quick and chaotic way. It's unfortunate that seconds later, this short album concludes very abruptly. There's no winding down or fading out. It just kinda ... stops. Dereliction of Divinity is an album I strongly recommend to fans of bands like: 1349, Taake, Watain or Sargeist. I'll give my boys a fair score of 6.66/10 rating.

Jared, Oriana and Ned discuss their collective choice of topic: Peter Jackson's version of The Return of the King. It's been twenty years since the conclusion of Jackson's three-film effort to adapt the entire Lord of the Rings was released, and it was easily the biggest profile release of the series, coming in with massive interest and attention, setting a variety of box office records in the process along with gaining widespread critical acclaim. It all resulted in a series of worldwide film awards and honors culminating with a famed clean sweep of Oscar wins including best picture, resulting in a tie with Titanic and Ben-Hur with eleven Oscars total but also the only one of those three films to literally win every category it was nominated for, a combined record that still stands. The film's general impact and that of the series as a whole is at this point undeniable, but how it holds up in a look back, caught somewhat between Fellowship's own unquestionable triumph and Two Towers's more stop-and-go successes, warrants its own discussion. What are the many changes made to the tangled relationship between Frodo, Sam and Gollum, and how does that play out as a result for both the film and the wider themes? How does the use of practical models and actual landscapes feed into the feeling of how the film both landed in the moment and held up upon later rewatching, even while it was also the biggest demonstration yet of the possibilities for CGI with massive military clashes and the like? Is it possible to actually lose count of just how many remarkable moments on a grand scale exist throughout the film, even as there are various “well, but…” caveats and questions to raise along the way? How has the whole series of film changed both the perceptions of Tolkien and the film industry in general? And how many endings are there, after all? (Surprise! It never ended, it's running somewhere in a theater right now, maybe.)Show Notes.Jared's doodle. And that's another epic trilogy down. (The earlier entries here and here.)Hurrah for the SAG-AFTRA strike ending and better (not perfect!) terms won.Our episode on evil. Evil!TheOneRing.net report on the return of the Eagle & Child pub. Jason Horowitz's New York Times story about that Italian Tolkien exhibition encouraged by Italy's favorite fascists. Sorry, did we say the quiet part out loud? (In the Guardian, Jamie Mackey with more context.)Our episodes on Peter Jackson's The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, with lots of notes about the series as a whole so we won't repeat everything here…The sole trailer for The Return of the King. But that's all they needed.Trilogy Tuesday! It was a crazy time and it was great. Here's a photo of the all-day pass given out, and here's an example of that film frame memento given out as well. The opening scene is really something, no lie. Friendly little worm there. The screenwriting guru Ned mentions is Robert McKee – per Brian Sibley's Peter Jackson biography, McKee had come to Wellington, New Zealand to give one of his lectures in 1988, and the New Zealand Film Commission invited Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and future contributing screenwriter for The Two Towers Stephen Sinclair to it and they all apparently took it very much to heart. So a long term impact but even so.The opening exchange between Sam, Frodo and Gollum. Really are some beautifully shot moments in this sequence.Oh did Christopher Lee have things to say in the run-up to the theatrical release. Our episode on the Rankin-Bass Return of the King. It is NOT very good.Yeah yeah the Arwen vision and Arwen dying and…well whatever. But boy that introduction to Minas Tirith. THAT'S how to make an entrance. And the beacons sequence, wow, still. Time zone issues aside. For examples of the Gondor theme earlier on in the series, skip ahead to about a minute into this clip.Ride the Empire Builder! If you like.Hurrah for John Noble (and hurrah for Fringe). Skip ahead three minutes for “The rule of Gondor is MINE!” moment, and the parting between Denethor and Faramir, phew.Minas Morgul, a triumph of John Howe design, glowing and clamped. (The skybeam is the skybeam but the sonic buildup rules.)The Holdo maneuver (it really was great, like the film itself)When Theoden and Eowyn part at Dunharrow, boy that'll ruin ya. That's two good actors very much in the moment. When Aragorn and Eowyn part at Dunharrow, it is very…shippy.“...and Rohan will answer!” Perfect.“The stars are veiled.” Are they, Legolas?Oh you know the Shelob scene. You know. “The Edge of Night” sequence is unnerving, beautiful and horribly sad.The Nazgul as the angels of death, in essence. However petty.Grond! It is great design for sure, plus armored trolls.Gothmog isn't bothered with your petty trebuchets. The Ride of the Rohirrim. No notes. But here come the mumakil…“I am no man!” Yeah, it rules.Air Bud, the lingua franca of us all. That crazy Witch-king mace. Gotta love it.And indeed skip ahead to the end of the clip for that mumak takedown by the scrubbing bubbles. Plus Tracy Jordan with the wisdom. It still only counts as one, we guess.Sam finds Frodo in Cirith Ungol – it's a good moment!“On this good earth!” (Well, maybe not GREAT earth.)“I can carry you!” A beautiful sequence, no doubt. The Crack of Doom. Great acting moments, wonderful moment for Gollum, but not over the cliff again…And yeah when Mount Doom completely explodes…Will they? Won't they?A great way to do individual bows via a movie.“You bow to NO one.” (Cue big emotions.)A wordless toast indeed. And a pumpkin. (And a case of the not gays.)The Grey Havens sends us off. It really is a great Turner-inspired scene.“Into the West” and the end credit portraits. Great job Annie. (The young filmmaker who passed was Cameron Duncan, to correct Ned there.)The Triplets of Belleville is a real treat, see it when you can.Enjoy all the Oscar wins!Ah yes the Eragon movie. Welp. And the Chronicles of Narnia tried. But. (Good luck Greta!)This ran after the episode was recorded but the LA Times had a piece on the movie anniversary and its impact, especially in New Zealand itself. Our Rings of Power and Hobbit films episodes have more about our general qualms there.Want to hear those exclusive podcasts we're talking about on Megaphonic? In "standard" fashion, we take a look at Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, breakdown the set, and make a few predictions based on what we've seen in regards to "hype". Now, this does follow our standard practice for a new set but relying on price here is a bit of a red herring so we're trying something new: relying on the internet and what kind of buzz we're seeing. Stick with us as we break down everything from Hobbits to Nazgul.
Season 18, Episode 16: Set Review (Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth) Morde and Manacymbal join forces to analyze the best Modern cards from Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth. Very few of these cards seem flashy enough for 2023 Modern, but heed Tolkien's advice: all that is gold does not glitter. A brave little hobbit, such as Rosie Cotton of South Lane, might have the right stats to enable a new infinite combo, and the interactive value provided by Orcish Bowmasters gets more powerful in older formats. A legendary land cycle has generous activated abilities, and Equipment decks get a new toy in Forge Anew. Will any of these cards break in to the brutally powerful Modern meta? Let's find out! Today our hosts continue their discussion of villians in Middle-earth. In this episode, they discuss some of the lesser, yet still powerful beings. These include balrogs, Sauruman, and the Ringwraiths.
In this episode, Siri and I co-host a conversation with Steve Schmida. Siri is also launching her own podcast called the Corporate Activist. So we thought of releasing this episode on both our podcasts because this conversation has great crossovers. Siri and Steve have known each other for almost 20 years. The three of us share the common link of having graduated from the Fletcher School's GMAP programme in international affairs. I'm excited about this conversation because I want to hear Steve''s perspective on how he's helping companies with their sustainability, climate and ESG commitments through projects in rural communities and in emerging markets and how he's making sense of stakeholder needs and local dynamics in designing programmes that create value in difficult places. Steve is the co-founder and the Chief Innovation Officer of Resonance, which is a frontier markets solutions firm. Steve was working out of his spare bedroom together with his wife Nazgul and bootstrapped Resonance into an award-winning, global consulting firm with more than 100 staff today. Resonance's clients include Fortune 500 and international donor agencies along with non profits and foundations. Steve has worked in more than 40 countries. Prior to founding Resonance, Steve worked in Russia and Central Asia where he established and led programmes for the Eurasia Foundation and the National Democratic Institute. Recently, Steve published the book Partner with Purpose, a step-by-step guide to planning, launching and maintaining cross-sector partnerships.Recorded on 20 February 2023.Steve's book is Partner with Purpose: Solving 21st-Century Business Problems Through Cross-Sector Collaboration, published in June 2020 by Rivertowns Books and available at major bookstores including on Amazon.Connect with Steve on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/steve-schmida-57823a10.Siri launched her new podcast, the Corporate Activist, where this episode was also published on 24 March 2023.
Middle-earth's greatest power couple: Aragorn and Arwen. We all know that Aragorn is Isildur's heir, but there's 38 generations and nearly 3000 years between them. What happened during that time?Elrond said that Aragorn was “descended through many fathers from Isildur Elendil's son . . . He is the Chief of the Dúnedain in the North, and few are now left of that folk”Today we will explore the tales of Aragorn's forefathers, and why the Dunedain have dwindled from the once mighty kingdom of Numenor to a handful of Rangers in the North. It's time for yet another episode of healthy screaming with Will Ramos, the lead vocalist of the deathcore band, Lorna Shore. Last week, we looked at how Will Ramos nurtured his voice to sound like a Nazgul. Today, we continue the conversation by talking more about how to NOT mess up your voice while screaming. Learn some tips on healthy screaming, relaxing to improve technique, and how scatting can improve deathcore. Will values taking care of his voice just as much as an opera singer would. It's also so much fun to hear him talk about cross-training in Tuvan throat singing as one of the ways that he takes care of his voice. Oh, and did I tell you that we actually put a camera down Will's throat to see what it's like now after years of heavy screaming? The result might just surprise you! In this episode, you will hear: How to scream better and avoid damage What it was like getting COVID as a singer The scatting approach Will's bucket list for collabs His transition to becoming the Lorna Shore frontman The future of extreme metal Tips to get started with metal screaming Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? Imagine a goblin meeting a Nazgul, and together they decided to sing an epic opera using only harsh vocals. That's what our guest today, Will Ramos sounds like. Will is the lead harsh vocalist of the deathcore band, Lorna Shore – and the sounds he makes are almost unreal! Many traditional singing teachers would point to his grunts and gurgles and say that he's destroying his voice – but he isn't. We actually decided to put a camera down his throat, and surprisingly, it was even more amazing than I had anticipated. Will engaged multiple areas of his vocal tract, from false folds to aryepiglottic. At one point, his throat even constricted so much that it looked like a black hole trying to suck the camera down. Whoa! But the most fascinating thing from putting a camera down Will's throat was the asymmetry we found, where there's a twisting motion that happens inside his larynx. It's likely part of what contributes to Will's unique sound. In this episode, you will hear: How word noises can lead to a career Transitioning from classical studies to metal Singing live is like mixing your vocals Will's unique sound and vocal technique Vocal effort vs. efficiency Vocal warm-up and exercise for false chord vocals Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? In today's episode, Kelli and Leah watch up to the 2 hour and 16 minute mark of the final film of the trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Leah and Kelli recount the battle in the White City, and Leah shares her insight on the Army of the Dead deleted scenes. Leah explains a bit in depth about how the Nazgul could be killed, and of course adds to her cry tally. The two also discuss queer coding in films, and whether or not Merry and Pippin might be romantically involved.Chat with us on Twitter! We'd love to hear what you think. You can find us at @AllGeekPodcast and be sure to tweet us your thoughts. Who do you think should have been credited with the killing of the Nazgul King - Merry, or Éowyn? Do you ship Sam and Frodo like Leah does?Support the show

Bear McCreary IS HERE! Just a short breakdown of the two new pieces of excellent score from Bear McCreary for Amazon's Rings of Power. I share a bit of how I think these pieces remind us of Howard Shore through comparisons with Lothlorien and The Nazgul.
