Today on the show I'm sitting down with three of the Mid-Atlantic's most soulful and talented, original singer-songwriters. All of these fine gentlemen have been on the show and bared their soul, but on this show, they've agreed to do it LIVE at Reb Records for the very first Mouthful of Graffiti LIVE. They are here to leave it all on the table. They are the next generation of visionary lads, longing for authenticity and heart over digital validation – each one of them reminding me of what I love about original music. I couldn't be happier to be kicking it off with the stories behind the songs and their live performances. Join me in welcoming Ryan Betts, Ian McDermott & Matthew Battaglia to the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast LIVE at Reb Records.Special thanks to: Double Groove Brewing, Vagabond Sandwich Company, Music Land Store, Heather Sipes - Baltimore Decal Gal, Black Eyed Suzie's, REB Records-MD & Caprichos Books

Unless you've been living under a ‘3rd Rock From The Sun'-sized heavenly rock, then you've probably seen Ian McDermott performing at your local pub, brewery, restaurant or Mid-Atlantic special event.  The aforementioned sitcom was included because it's an NBC property, much like The Voice, which Ian McDermott will be featured on in their upcoming season. His warm, rich, timber is like organic syrup on your already perfectly spiced flavored pancakes. Ian sings the blues like an old soul and performs with a certain unmistakable star-quality. I recently watched him perform at the Fall Equinox Festival at Alecraft Brewery and immediately wanted to get him on the show. In Week 3, we’re talking about the role and impact of our motivation when we get stuck. In Episode 5, Ann talks with Anand Sharma the CEO of Growth Angle Pty Ltd based in London. He is an executive coach, mentor and business consultant. Prior to founding his company, Anand had a 37 year corporate career, with his last role being as Global Director of Healthcare for Reckitt Benckiser Plc. UK, a FTSE 100 company. Anand holds a B.Sc., PGDM and MBA qualifications. He has also been trained by Ian McDermott of ITS London. the 'coach of coaches', and Professor of applied neuroscience Patricia Riddle from Reading University, UK.Anand has never felt stuck in his career, but he believes that it is a reality for many. He credits his experience to changing his own language – from one of blame to one of ‘choice.’ In this episode, Anand talks in detail about the role of neuroscience and it’s connection to motivation. He says, that when we feel stuck, this causes us stress which then metabolises in our bodies. He explains that research now proves our ‘gut feeling’ is very real and it should be listened to more often. Trillions of neurons in our bodies give us an internal feedback mechanism, that we need to start listening to and talking to. He believes, that in our careers we need to move between ‘exploit’ and ‘explore’ periods and he urges us to reframe our feeling of stuck to a mindset where we feel we always have a choice. Here are the research links referenced in this episode (in order of mention):Abraham Maslow, Hierarchy of Needs (1943) https://bit.ly/1eNG6h8Bob Chapman, “Everybody Matters” (2015) https://bit.ly/2oqTCb4Harvard Business Review – Goler, Gale, Harrington and Grant: “The three things employees really care about: Career, Community and Cause” (2018) https://bit.ly/2C8blJNDaniel Pink, “Drive” (2018) https://www.danpink.com/drive./  And, if you would like to connect with Anand, you can contact him directly via:Email: anand.sharma@growthangle.co.ukLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/anand-sharma-639888/ If you have a question that you would like answered, or you would like to connect with Ann and Amelia directly, you can email: careerandcoffeepodcast@gmail.comYou can also join our Career and Coffee community on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/career-and-coffee-podcast/And find us on Instagram for bonus content: instagram.com/podcastcareerandcoffee
