True leaders create space for individuals to be passionate about their work and feel a sense of ownership. Nobody wants to be managed, bossed or supervised. We must inspire creativity in our people. Those ideas are the backbone of a culture of continuous improvement and a culture where people feel like they matter. Michael Gelb is the author of books such as How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci and Innovate Like Edison. He has been applying the principles of genius thinking to personal, leadership and organizational development for more than 40 years. He has worked to inspire creativity in the workplace and his journey led him to our friend and Everybody Matters co-author, Raj Sisodia. Together, they wrote The Healing Organization: Awakening the Conscience of Business to Help Save the World. On this podcast, Michael talks about inspiration, creativity and how that leads to helping people in organizations feel like they matter.

I'm giving you another rerun again. Yes, I know, but you're going to love this episode with my guest Bob Burg, who is an expert sales leader and author with a real go-giver attitude. Listen to this live episode to get the right mindset to help you get prospects. Meet Bob Burg Bob Burg is a salesman who has written a series of books about The Go-Giver, a parable about the principles behind the kind of success most sellers are hoping to achieve. After spending some time in the sales industry, he realized that he wasn't living up to his potential. Until one day he had a conversation with another salesman and recalling how his parents worked to make other's lives better, it hit him.   Instead of trying to meet quota, Bob shifts his focus on how he can serve others, and his reward happens to be more money coming into his pockets. Great salesmanship is about the other person and how they'll benefit from your product or service. Focus on Value People aren't going to buy from you because you need to meet quota or because you're a nice person. They are going to buy from you because they'll be better off after they do. Salespeople need to focus on bringing value to the prospect's life. Value comes first, and the money you receive is a natural result of the value you provided. Value Without Attachment Although people often suggest you should give without expecting anything in return, Bob doesn't exactly agree with that. Instead, give value without attachment to the result. If you're in business serving other people, you should expect to profit greatly because you're bringing value to the marketplace. Just don't be attached to that result. Give value because it's who you are and what you do. When that happens, you create a benevolent context for success. You develop great relationships with people who feel good about you. Communicating Value Bob shares how sales reps can communicate value to prospects through these five elements:  Excellence Consistency Attention Empathy Appreciation To the degree that you can communicate these things to your customer, that's the degree to which you take price and competition out of the picture.  “Money is the thunder to lightning's value. The value comes first.” - Bob Burg.  Resources Listen to Bob Burg's The Go-Giver Podcast for more mindset tips.  Join the Sales Foundation Course for a blueprint to closing more deals.  Grab Bob Burg's The Go-Giver book set.   Another book discussed in this episode was Everybody Matters by Bob Chapman.  Connect with Bob Burg on Facebook and LinkedIn  Also, don't forget to visit his website.  Sponsorship Offers This episode is brought to you in part by Hubspot. Raj Sisodia is the co-author of our CEO, Bob Chapman's, book, Everybody Matters, and the co-founder of Conscious Capitalism. You can find out more about Raj on his website, Raj Sisodia.com Raj is working on a very special project we'll be able to talk about soon and, as every conversation with Raj is enlightening, we decided to roll the proverbial tape to capture some of his insight. We ended up talking about Raj's experiences for the last 20 years or so, specifically through some of his books: Firms of Endearment, Conscious Capitalism, Everybody Matters and The Healing Organization. Raj's career in and out of writing has mirrored the rise of the conscious leadership and conscious business movement, and so we talk a little history as well. On this podcast, you're going to hear that conversation. One of the reasons it's such an important conversation, is that while Raj recounts a bit of history, he traces things to today and where the conscious business movement is right now. It'll give you a lot to think about.

What makes you who you are? I know that's a huge, complex question. However, if you think about it – there would have been a few pivotal moments, relationships and possibly conversations that set you on the path you're on today.Beyond the path, those moments would have also laid the wiring for how you now react, decide and decode the world around you. Laying the foundations for how you show up in every situation, relationship, and moment of your life.Today's conversation is a little different to usual, as it has a very autobiographical feel. However, although this episode is all about my guest's lifelong journey, leading to the completion of his latest book, the lessons learnt along the way are universal. Offering a roadmap for anyone who wants to examine and reimagine their life - at whatever age.Today's Guest My guest is a friend of the show - Raj Sisodia. Raj is an acclaimed thought leader, speaker and author. Co-founder of the Conscious Capitalism movement, Raj has written a number of the core texts from that field. Including ‘Firms of Endearment', ‘Conscious Capitalism', ‘Everybody Matters' with past guest and incredible human being Bob Chapman and ‘The Healing Organisation'.His latest book ‘Awaken: The Path to Purpose, Inner Peace and Healing' is a guide to leading a life of meaning, purpose and fulfillment. Containing practical advice on how to know yourself, love yourself, be yourself and express yourself from a place of choice – rather than a place of habit. This is Raj's second time on the podcast, the first time we dove into his journey starting and leading the Conscious Capitalism movement. This time we go deeper into the moments, events and experiences that led to who he became – and who he chooses to become in this next chapter of his life. LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rajendrasisodia/Twitter: @RajSisodiaCC You'll LearnRaj's definition of what it means to ‘awaken'. Including the acronym ‘LIST' which he now uses as a roadmap for all his decisions. LIST standing for: Love, Innocence, Simplicity and Truth. His journey of self-discovery – and the strength it takes to dismantle the parts of our lives and personalities that are no longer working. How to find the courage to step back when things don't feel right and the curiosity to ask: ‘Could there be a better way?' Finally, why our core childhood memories often hold the key to what we most need to re-examine in order to move forward.A couple of quick notes, this episode contains mention and memories of violence and abuse. As always, I leave it to your instincts to decide what's healthy for you and any listening ears around you.If you liked this episode, you might also enjoyBahia ShehabThanks for tuning into this week's episode of the Inside Influence Podcast! It's been almost eight years since the publication of Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring for Your People Like Family by Raj Sisodia, one of the founders of Conscious Capitalism and Barry-Wehmiller CEO, Bob Chapman. It's the story of Bob and Barry-Wehmiller's journey from traditional business thinking to Truly Human Leadership. All these years later, people are still discovering the book and are touched by the story. Around the time of Everybody Matters' release, Bob and Raj did a number of interviews talking about why they wrote the book and what they hoped to accomplish by writing it.

DEVOTIONAL DAY 4 - “Everybody Matters.” The life of Jesus was a life lived with people and for people. Almost every account of Jesus in the Gospels finds Him with people. The crowds who followed Him, the disciples with whom He lived and ministered, the curious like Nicodemus, the truth-seeking like the Rich Young Ruler, beggars, and those marginalized by society. Where there were needy people, you found Jesus. Jesus came from the Father "full of grace and truth" (John 1:14) to give us His grace (John 1:16) so that we could have a relationship with God (John 1:18). In fact, John 1:14 says that “the Word (Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us." The original language literally means, "He came to pup tent among us. He came to live with us." Many priorities can rule our lives, but the priority of Jesus was always people. He wanted people to hear the Good News of forgiveness, experience the joy of His presence, and know the meaning of a life lived with Him. He invites us to join Him in His kingdom work and use the gifts He gave us for His purposes. He wants to see the marginalized lifted up, the sinner forgiven, the hopeless given hope, and all invited to a rich and meaningful life here and for all eternity. Jesus came full of two powerful qualities. The first is grace. And, because of that grace, your past does not matter. Your social position does not matter. Your questions, doubts, struggles, and addictions don't matter. In Jesus, you met one who loves unconditionally, forgives freely, and has called you from your struggles and issues to a life of freedom in Him. His grace covers everything.  Jesus also came full of truth! Satan is the father of lies. He lied to Eve in the Garden, and he lies to us. But into this morass of lies and deception came the Son of God, full of grace and truth. And His truth sets us free and gives us life and abundance of life (John 10:10). There are many priorities we can build our lives around. If we want to be like Jesus, we will build our lives around Him and the people in our lives who need Him. Our ambitions, achievements, and pursuits will one day vanish. But the lives we impact for Jesus will change everything for them in time and eternity. It all starts when we start to value people as Jesus did. And make Jesus and people our priorities.  So here is your prayer for today: Father, free me from the selfishness that causes me to be self-centered. Instead, help me to see those around me as precious and infinitely deserving of your grace. Help me to give space in my life to those around me as Jesus did. Amen.

Have you ever felt alone in seeing a problem? That feeling, a little bit like the story of the Emperor's new clothes, where everyone else is applauding – but there's an important truth that no one seems willing to speak. That's how my guest today felt, from a very young age, about one of the most influential ideas on the planet. That one idea is capitalism. According to the dictionary… Capitalism is defined as “an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit” Since the birth of the capitalism, approximately 200 years ago, the world's population living in ‘extreme poverty' has dropped from 94% to 9.6%. Yet, what also comes with that idea – the flip side to the capitalist coin – has been argued to be unchecked greed and the treatment of people and the planet as ‘assets' to be bought and then discarded. To put it lightly – it's a pretty powerful idea. Ray Sisodia was a young man growing up in India when he first came across the impact of capitalism - and to the conclusion that there had to be a better way of doing business than just surviving to chase money. THAT idea is Conscious Capitalism. Today's Guest Raj Sisodia is a founding member of the worldwide Conscious Capitalism movement, FW Olin Distinguished Professor of Global Business and Whole Foods Market Research Scholar in Conscious Capitalism at Babson College. He has written eleven award-winning books, including Firms of Endearment, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-seller Conscious Capitalism, Everybody Matters and his latest book ‘The Healing Organization: Awakening the Conscience of Business to Help Save the World'. LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rajendrasisodia/Twitter: @RajSisodiaCC You'll LearnThe role of the Healing Leader post-COVIDWhy part of moving forward consciously involves firstly going backwards. Why capitalism can still be the greatest idea we've ever had and what needs to change in order to move forward.Raj's own journey of influence, what he's learned about creating and sustaining a global movement. On a personal note, this conversation honestly went NOWHERE I expected. I arrived with two pages of questions about the future of capitalism and left with a deep appreciation for the humility, grace, and courage of Raj himself. You know, in any journey of influence you are going to face your words head-on. If you teach patience, you will hit the places where you have none. If you teach courage, you'll find those moments when yours disappears. If you talk about healing organisations, eventually you'll need to face a healing journey of your own. Raj is a human being that has had the courage to do both. The courage to drive the new ideas and stories that move the world forward and the courage to re-examine the old ideas and stories holding him back. That's real influence. Thanks for tuning into this week's episode of the Inside Influence Podcast! If the information has helped you please subscribe to the show, and leave a review. One thing that you may not know by looking at me is that there's a lot of foreign blood running through my veins. My Mother was born in Colombia, South America, to a Swiss Father. Fun Fact: My Mom, Aunt, Sister, Cousins, and I all have dual citizenship between the US and Switzerland!Growing up in Southern California, I was often made fun of for speaking Spanish and being more tan than others. I was often asked if I had jumped the border with my family, and my Mom was often approached asking how much she was being paid to babysit while my sister and I were playing in the park. When it comes to diversity, I shared these two points:1) Seek to understand. Learn from someone who looks different than you, reach out to them, and value their differences. Don't draw quick conclusions. Not all Hispanics are Mexicans and not all Asians are Chinese. Find out where someone is from, what they enjoy doing, etc. You'll learn new things and gain new perspectives.2) Everybody Matters. You can learn something from anyone, regardless of their title and status. I shared that the most important people that I see in my full time role at @boeing are the mechanics, not the executives. If you look at an organization chart, you may think the opposite. You never know if the janitor may be the next big CEO, etc. Don't ignore these people, or anyone for that matter.Win Today!Connect with Me!InstagramWebsiteLinkedIn

“Iedere werknemer is iemand’s kind.” Dat leverde enorm veel inzichten en verbeteringen op.Support the show: https://krant.nlSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

She is an avid runner and loves boating and spending time at her lake cabin with family and friends. In this episode Steve and Natalie discuss:A couple of leadership lessons Affirming people constantly Communicating clearlyEstablishing connection with your team Key Takeaways: When you're not telling people what's happening, they'll make up their own story - which is usually the wrong story. So you have to remind them what's happening, what they need to know. Business has to be personal - know their family, their dreams. It's a good investment to make your people know that you care about them. Whenever you affirm people, you free and empower them to not only perform better but to live and engage more positively.Show, not tell. Show people how to do something, and how it will impact rather than just merely telling them what to do.  “The most important thing for a leader is to remember: we need to affirm our employees. Constantly, over and over, they need to know that they are important, valued, and that they contribute regardless of the position.” - Natalie Overturf  Book mentioned: Everybody Matters, by Bob Chapman and Raj Sisodia Connect with Natalie Overturf:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NatalieOverturfHBFS/Website: https://www.homebridge.com/Email: natalie.overturf@Homebridge.com Connect with Steve and Jason:LinkedIn: Jason or SteveWebsite: Rewire, Inc.: Transformed Thinking Email: grow@rewireinc.com  Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. George Isaac's grandfather founded the first Isaac family businesses in 1899 in Bryan, Ohio, beginning a long history of serial entrepreneurship and the subsequent creation of several successful enterprises. A lot has changed since then, but the Isaac Group continues to thrive, now under board oversight and management by its third and fourth generation. George grew up as a child of family business owners and has run several Isaac multigenerational family businesses as a CEO and board member. More recently, he is the founder and president of GAI Capital Ltd. (https://www.georgeisaac.com/), a family business consulting firm and the author of a newly released book titled Your Business, Your Family, Your Legacy: Building a Multigenerational Family Business That Lasts (https://amzn.to/357aKVz) Your Business Your Family Your Legacy - George A Isaac https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/0/07b96f5a-1bdc-4b5f-b51a-e29fa46426fb/MOXrjd85.jpg (https://amzn.to/357aKVz) Standout Quotes: * "I realized that some of the things I did in running our family business and what a lot of people are doing today are not best practices" * "I used to think that the goal was to get everybody in the family to stay in the family business and figure out a way to make them live happily ever after... My goal now is to understand the real needs of each family member and see if they fit within what the family business is going to be about" * "The majority can rule and figure out what they want to do but you need to deal with the minority issues... so that you can satisfy their needs" * "The most important to me of the whole thing is just being certain that your ownership group is aligned" * "There are times when you should sell your family business" * "Shareholder returns are much different than business returns... Figuring out how you provide real-life shareholder returns is an important step that many of us don't recognize" * "Money is not everything by any means" Key Takeaways: * Although George had gotten involved in the family business at a very early age and had planned to join fully after school, he decided to go out and get outside experience first. * George notes that the Authoritarian leadership style of his father, although a good leader, made for a rather weak management team generally. * The 2 conceptual parts to George's 9-step succession planning roadmap: Family Transition Planning and Business Transition Planning. * George explains that formerly his goal would be to make everyone stay in the family business and be happy, but now he tries to understand the individual needs of each family member, to see if they fit into the family business as a whole. * It is necessary to revisit the topic of people's needs and be sure the business is aligned with taking care of these needs because those needs change over time. * The 2 Basic components of selling the family business: the financial side and the personal side. * Headwinds that perpetuate a multi-generational family wealth: FIST ( Family units, Inflation, Spending rate, Taxes) * George shares some insight from the book "Everybody matters", describing how attention to the little things can go a long way in making workers satisfied * Think about what you want your legacy to be; are you aligning yourself with that legacy? * Be Curious and Have Empathy Episode Timeline: * [00:49] A short overview of George's background and the Isaac family business * [05:12] George is the 3rd generation of the family business * [05:28] What sort of product lines is the business in? * [06:22] How did your story evolve into the family advisory work? * [09:44] About the A 9-step succession planning roadmap from George's book * [17:16] George highlights implications to consider in selling a family business * [23:37] The Family Business Wealth Evaporation Trap * [33:05] F.I.S.T * [36:51] Is it possible to maintain wealth at a reasonable level even though the family grows at a compound rate as the generations go on? * [39:47] George shares his opinion about children inheriting wealth. * [41:51] George recommends the book "Everybody Matters" by Bob Chapman * [44:31] From George to his kids *For more episodes go to * BusinessOfFamily.net (https://www.businessoffamily.net/) Sign up for The Business of Family Newsletter at https://www.businessoffamily.net/newsletter (https://www.businessoffamily.net/newsletter) Follow Mike on Twitter @MikeBoyd (https://twitter.com/MikeBoyd) If you feel it's appropriate, I'd so appreciate you taking 30 seconds to Leave a Review on iTunes (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1525326745), I receive a notification of each review. 10 Things You Should Know about Stakeholder Capitalism

Originally released on October 11, 2020, Episode 5 tells the story of Barry Wehmiller which, during the long tenure of CEO Bob Chapman, has grown into a $3 Billion global enterprise. For the last couple of decades, Chapman and his team have been focused on creating a culture of trust and caring that aims to help people discover their gifts, develop their gifts, and be appreciated for doing so. The 5th thing you should know about stakeholder capitalism is that corporate culture can be a tremendous positive force to foster human development and wellbeing. And that when companies make that the goal of their workplace, major performance advantages accrue. Barry Whemiller has employed this strategy to complete more than 110 acquisitions worldwide, nearly all of them profitable. There is much more to the story in a book called Everybody Matters and a short documentary film by the same title. Barry Wehmillers Corporate training programs can be found at Chapman and Co. The Methodology used in the corporate training is available to non-profits, government offices, and other community focused organisations through Our Community Listens. Bob Chapman has had a series of arresting insights that have completely changed the way he builds his businesses and his approach to leadership. He's come to realize there is a leadership crisis in the world that stems from not giving leaders the skills and courage to care for those they have the privilege to lead. It starts with helping leaders to see each team member as someone's precious child and engaging them through the transformative power of empathetic listening. Contrast that view with the traditional approach taken in business to consider people as functions and objects to be used and manipulated to achieve owner and company goals. Today Bob stands to spread the message that the more we can combine work with caring, the more fulfilled we will be and the further we collectively advance.

In this As One podcast series, we talk about why organizational alignment matters. If the organization or team that you lead is not aligned around specific, critical issues, your experience is going to be a rough ride. In this episode, we talk about the value of your team being specific, clear, and aligned around why you do what you do. In their classic work, Built to Last, Jim Collins and Jerry Porras recognize that healthy, enduring organizations are incredibly clear on the fundamental reason they exist. Know Your Why If your team lacks alignment around the reason that your organization exists, you'll see a lack of unity and direction. Ultimately, a lack of alignment yields a demoralized and unmotivated workforce. Your team may be functional but will never be highly productive. Compelling Vision Your team wants, actually needs, a compelling vision. What are you doing to make the world a better place, even if only for a small group of people? A compelling ‘why' is the thing that encourages team buy-in. People want to feel that they are a part of something larger than themselves, something that offers significance for their investment. Passion is easily lost in an organization without a significant reason for your team to participate in the vision. Money is Not a Good ‘Why' Some organizations exist solely to make money for the principals and shareholders. Unless you have a remarkable profit-sharing plan for your team, this is probably not going to be the kind of vision that gets them out of bed in the morning. Making money is simply an indicator of success, not a compelling reason for existence. Vision Statements Are Not Marketing Tools Your marketing department can't craft compelling vision statements; they can contribute, but your “why” has to be more than a marketing tool. It must represent the heart of your vision in order for people to give themselves to it with any measure of integrity. Questions to Ask Yourself and Your Team A couple of questions should help jumpstart your “why do we exist?” conversation: What can we do to make the world a better place? And, for whom are we making it better? What is possible while staying within the boundaries of our greatest strengths and passions? Possible Categories Exemplary Client Service: We exist to make the world better for our clients. Industry Specific: for example, hospitality. Disney exists to offer individuals the ultimate in guest hospitality. Greater Cause: I have a client whose professional endeavors helps them create excess wealth that feeds causes. Near and dear to their heart is a desire to make the world safer for children without parents and victims and targets of trafficking. Community: I helped a client define the following 'why' for their organization: “We exist to improve the communities in which we work by implementing proven environmental solutions that protect human health and the environment, and encourage sustainable social and economic development.” Employee Benefit: Some companies exist to create extraordinary cultures and opportunities for their employees. Barry-Wehmiller is an exceptional example of this, and Bob Chapman tells their story is his book, Everybody Matters. Wealth Creation: This is not typically compelling for your team members, but if this is your vision, state it clearly. People need to know what they are buying into. Coming to alignment is not a fast-food type of encounter—it takes time to define and clarify. The process is messy as ideas are introduced and debated. Give yourself the gift of time and effort to create critical alignment. It will save you time, drama, and confusion in the long run. --- If your organization is suffering from a lack of alignment, connect with me for a free, complimentary conversation about our organizational health process.
