Jacob Tamme is a former NFL tight end who played nine seasons with the Colts, Broncos and Falcons from 2008-2016. He was a part of three different Super Bowl teams and caught a touchdown pass in the 2013 AFC Championship game to help Denver beat New England.  In college, Tamme was a standout tight end at the University of Kentucky and in 2018, was inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame.  Today on the podcast, we talk to Jacob Tamme about prayer in the NFL, reaction to the Damar Hamlin incident on Monday Night Football, lessons from Tony Dungy and bible studies with Peyton Manning.  Looking for faith/sports gift ideas? Jacob Tamme is a former American football tight end. He played college football at Kentucky and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Jacob also played for the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. As one of the top scholar-athletes in the country, he completed his degree in integrated strategic communications in only three years and earned his MBA just before entering the NFL. Known for his contributions back to the community, in 2006, he was named to the National Good Works Team by the American Football Coaches Association, the SEC Community Service Team by the SEC Office, and to the Frank G. Ham Society of Character by UK Athletics. In 2007, he was one of 15 finalists for the prestigious Draddy Trophy, which is presented to the top scholar-athlete in the country. He gave the acceptance speech on behalf of the 15 finalists at the award ceremony in New York City. Also in 2007, he was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and elected to the first-team Academic All-America squad by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He was the 2007 recipient of the Bobby Bowden Award, a national honor presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Jacob is a Christian. He has spoken about his faith saying, “My faith is important because it’s the core of why I believe we exist as humans. Faith allows us to spend eternity with God and it fuels my everyday actions. I’ve seen how having faith in God can change lives and it certainly has changed mine.” Jacob was inducted in 2018 to the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame.

Kentucky Housing Corporation's Executive Director, Edwin King, sits down with Jacob Tamme, who is a former American football tight end and advocate of homes for wounded U.S. veterans who will be a keynote speaker during our 2018 Kentucky Affordable Housing Conference—The Power of Housing is Now—on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 21 and 22, in Lexington, Kentucky. Together,Tamme and his wife Allison co-founded the Swings for Soldiers Classic in 2010. Each year, they are joined by friends, family, and many volunteers to help produce an amazing event that benefits a great organization - Homes for Our Troops. In eight years, they have raised over $800,000 for the charity.
