In the new age of college football, the title “general manager” means something different on every campus. Several schools have hired GMs and given them something similar to the power of an NFL GM.(0:00-0:22) Intro(0:23-19:44) Ron Rivera's Role at Cal, House Settlement(19:45-20:06) Watch our show on YouTube!(20:07-35:03) How will the house settlement impact spending?(35:04-39:30) Update on the mystery at Ari's House(39:31-43:38) Putting a bow on the GM discussion(43:39-52:06) Jake Garcia signs with Michigan(52:07-53:59) Conclusion We thought that might create a power struggle with coaches, but what happened Monday suggests it also may create a power struggle with athletic directors. Cal athletic director Jim Knowlton retired with four years left on his contract, and it's clear that newly installed GM Ron Rivera — the former Panthers and Commanders head coach — has assumed the role Knowlton had when it comes to football. Meanwhile, well-traveled quarterback Jake Garcia committed to Michigan. The former four-star recruit has been at Miami, Missouri and East Carolina. The Southeastern 16 crew of Graham Doty, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee break down the Conway Regional. Topics include: Coastal Carolina was the country's best team from outside the Power 4, with MLB catching prospect Caden Bodine and Blake Barthol (12 HR, 12 SB) part of an offense that stole 99 bases and hit 56 home runs. The Chanticleers can pitch with anyone thanks to a starting trio of Jacob Morrison, Cameron Flukey and Riley Eikhoff, a bullpen of Matthew Potok , Dominic Carbine and Ryan Lunch and confidence that comes from a 48-11 record. Florida was as hot as any team in the country over the last six weeks. The Gators are led by a pair of premium MLB pitching prospects in Liam Peterson and Aidan King and a host of other talented arms like Jake Clemente, Pierce Coppola and Luke McNeillie. The Gators survived serious injures to a number of star players thanks to standout offensive performances from infielder Bobby Boser (16 HR) and Brody Donay (17), star freshman first baseman Brendan Lawson (nine). No one prepares his team better for the postseason than coach Kevin O'Sulllivan; can the Gators work some postseason magic again? Coach Cliff Godwin's East Carolina squad needed to win the American Athletic tournament to get here. The Pirates, a perennial mid-major powerhouse, are led by lefty slugger Dixon Williams (13 HR) and pin their pitching hopes on lefty Ethan Norby. Fourth-seeded Fairfield got here by winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic conference tournament and is 39-17 entering the regional. Fairfield had 14-homer seasons from Luke Nomura and Matthew Bucciero to lead its offense. The Stags got great starting pitching from Ben Allison and Bowen Baker and will need more of it against a loaded field.
Welcome to Episode 85 of Tablesetters, where Devin and Steve guide you through another compelling week in the world of baseball — from postseason pushes in college ball to standout performances in the majors. We begin with the NCAA Tournament field, where the headlines may favor the SEC, but the most intriguing stories lie elsewhere. Programs like East Carolina, Northeastern, UC Irvine, and Kansas State enter the regionals with proven track records in tough environments — built not on hype, but on experience and resilience. Campbell's near-comeback against Charleston in the CAA Tournament is just one example of how postseason grit can't be measured by seeding. In the majors, it was a week defined by contrast. Tarik Skubal delivered a complete-game gem, striking out 13 on just 94 pitches — a rare blend of power and efficiency that continues to elevate his standing among the game's best arms. Meanwhile, we discuss the broader picture across the league: win streaks gaining momentum, lineups showing life, and a few clubs that may be entering make-or-break territory. The Rays have quietly turned a corner, stacking wins and finding consistency in a temporary home. On the other end of the spectrum, one franchise's struggles could lead to a historically low win total by the end of June. We also spotlight a top prospect making a strong first impression in Triple-A — and explore what his rise could mean for a club looking for answers. As always, we close the show with Red Hot/Ice Cold, our weekly picks for players and teams on the move, and Coming Around 3rd, where we highlight what we'll be watching closely in the days ahead. Whether you follow the game through a fantasy lens, root for your team through every pitch, or just want to stay informed on the stories that matter — you're in the right place.
Visit: https://www.ysguys.comIn this Memorial Day edition of Y's Guys, hosts Dave McCann and Blaine Fowler honor those who have served while breaking down critical updates in BYU sports. The episode opens with a recap of quarterback Jake Retzlaff's uncertain status following a civil lawsuit and what that means for BYU Football heading into fall. The crew explores who might step in—McCae Hillstead, Treyson Bourguet, or Bear Bachmeier—and how the offense can adapt, especially with key returners like LJ Martin, Chase Roberts, and a dominant O-line.The show also covers BYU's latest football commit, 6'4", 335-pound defensive tackle Alvin Puefua, who chose the Cougars over Miami, Utah, and Arizona. The team discusses ESPN's Top 30 quarterbacks, where Retzlaff still lands at No. 17, and what to watch for in BYU's early schedule: Portland State, Stanford, and East Carolina. They also dive into the new College Football Playoff format, which now rewards the Top 4 teams regardless of conference affiliation. On the basketball front, AJ Dybantsa is invited to USA Basketball's U19 training camp, and BYU's updated non-conference schedule includes exhibition games against Nebraska (Oct. 18) and North Carolina (late October at the Delta Center). The show also celebrates the Marriott Center's Top 10 national ranking for arena atmosphere and highlights Delaware at BYU (Nov. 11) as the first regular-season matchup. The show wraps with updates from spring sports: Men's Golf pushes for a top-8 finish at NCAA Championships; Softball's Ilova'a Brittingham is named a Freshman All-American; Track & Field heads to the NCAA West Prelims with both teams ranked in the top 7; and Baseball finishes a strong Big 12 tournament run. Other features include the launch of the “Y's Guy for a Day” fan contest, this week's inspirational quote from John Wayne, and a look at BYU's upcoming summer calendar. Hosted on Acast. The Southeastern 16 crew discusses Mississippi State fired baseball coach Chris Lemonis on Monday, April 28, topics include: Lemonis leaves a legacy that includes a 2021 national championship. But the Bulldogs struggled since, failing to make the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and 2023 and failing to make it out of a regional in 2024. Lemonis was 232-135 overall and 82-89 in SEC play, but just 42-69 after winning a national title. He's owed approximately $1.2 million and is the second baseball coach MSU has fired this century. Why did athletic director Zac Selmon make a change now? And are we surprised Lemonis was fired in-season? Pitching coach Justin Parker will be the interim coach. What will that mean? How attractive is the job in a more-competitive-than-ever SEC and does MSU have the budget to hire an elite coach? Who will the Bulldogs hire? Potential candidates might include: Those with MSU ties: Georgia hitting coach Will Coggin (played at MSU), Kentucky coach Nick Mingione (MSU assistant from 2009-15), Auburn coach Butch Thompson (MSU assistant from 2009-15), Georgia coach Wes Johnson (pitching coach in 2016), Louisiana Tech coach Lane Burroughs (MSU assistant from 2009-12) Sitting head coaches without MSU ties: Alabama's Rob Vaughn, East Carolina's Cliff Godwin, Clemson;s Erik Bakich, Kansas coach Dan Fitzgerald, Duke's Chris Pollard, Dallas Baptist's Dan Heefner and Wake Forest's Tom Walter, Oklahoma's Skip Johnson, Oregon State's Mitch Carnham, North Carolina's Scott Forbes, Oregon's Scott Wasikowski Current assistants without MSU ties: Tennessee hitting coach Josh Elander FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA Twitter: https://twitter.com/16Southeastern SANDERS LOGISTICS Efficient, hassle-free moving: https://www.tedrsandersmoving.com/ ADVERTISE WITH SOUTHEASTERN 16 Reach out to caroline.smith@southeastern14.com to find out how your product or service can be seen by over 200,000 unique viewers each month! #sec #secbaseball #collegebaseball

Send us a textIn this full episode of *2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates*, hosts Drew and Rob go all-in on breaking down the top outside cornerback prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft as the New York Giants look to reshape their secondary. With the Giants still seeking depth at cornerback this detailed analysis explores who might be the next elite shutdown DB to land in New York. The guys examine more than a dozen prospects in this jam-packed show, diving deep into player traits, college production, combine buzz, and overall fit within the Giants' defensive system. The conversation kicks off with Michigan's Will Johnson, a physical prototype at 6'2” and 202 pounds who has the accolades and ball production to justify his top-15 projection. Rob and Drew discuss how quarterbacks avoided him in college and how his high football IQ and sticky coverage style could translate to the NFL. Then it's time for Travis Hunter out of Colorado, one of the most electrifying and versatile players in college football. Despite playing both WR and CB, Hunter still managed to win the Heisman Trophy and multiple defensive awards. Drew and Rob break down his top-5 upside and whether his smaller frame will hold up at the next level.Texas standout Jahdae Barron is another hot name the Goofballs spotlight, praised for his versatility, instincts, and ability to contribute in multiple areas — including special teams. Rob questions how Barron's aggressive style might fit in Wink Martindale's former system or a future Giants scheme. They move on to Shavon Revel Jr. from East Carolina, who has elite length and special teams prowess but saw his 2024 season cut short by an ACL tear. Notre Dame's Benjamin Morrison, Kentucky's Maxwell Hairston, and Florida State's Azareye'h Thomas all get detailed scouting breakdowns too, with notes on their strengths in coverage and concerns about durability, ball production, and run support. The duo dives into deeper round prospects like Iowa State's Darien Porter — a 6'4” converted wide receiver who flashed at the combine but remains raw — and LSU's Zy Alexander, a long, physical corner with a strong tackling mindset but limited upside. They examine Denzel Burke out of Ohio State, a former wideout who brings physicality and experience but may struggle with elite receivers deep. California's Nohl Williams impressed with 7 INTs in 2024 but needs to improve his lateral agility, while Virginia Tech's Dorian Strong, Kansas State's Jacob Parrish, and Louisville's Quincy Riley round out the list of potential late-round or Day 3 pickups, each with tools that could be developed with the right coaching. If you're a die-hard Giants fan or just crave in-depth NFL Draft coverage, this is the episode for you. Dale Steele literally built the Campbell Football program from the ground up. He arrived in Buies Creek in 2006 and spent the next two years putting together facilities, a staff and roster in time for the program to relaunch in 2008 after a 58-year hiatus. Coach Steele brought a quarter century of college football coaching experience to Campbell and turned the program into a winner in just four short years. The son of a high school coach and graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he played on the offensive and defensive lines, Dale began a coaching career that lasted more than 45 years when he took a graduate assistant position at Ball State in 1977. Over the years, his travels took him to Wisconsin, Tulane, Wichita State, Kansas State, East Carolina, Baylor, East Tennessee and Elon before he and his family moved to Harnett County in 2006. Among the many accomplishments of his career, include five bowl trips and back-to-back FCS national titles while he was on the staff at James Madison. Now retired, he has served as an advisor to current Campbell head coach Braxton Harris and is involved with the Myrtle Beach Bowl, while he and his wife Pam spend as much time as possible with their grand kids. Earlier this year, Coach Steele was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame. In the next installment of Tales from the Creek, Campbell Hall of Fame member Dale Steele talks with Stan Cole about his paths to Campbell, starting a football program from scratch, and more.

And with that, the regular season is over and it's tournament time! For Ken LaVicka, FAU's pounding of East Carolina was one of the most satisfying, most impressive wins of the entire season. With the regular year done, it's pretty clear that the Owls are the absolute definition of a good basketball team and Ken gives the number that provides the proof. Also, the Senior Day festivities had Ken thinking a lot about what could have been and what may come. Finally, a tweet from an FAU supporter over the weekend bothered Ken to a point that he needs to address it now: a message for all FAU fans and their sometimes skewed and jaded expectations/perceptions of FAU Basketball vs. reality and the barometer of "success". On this episode of Tablesetters, we're joined by Campbell University Head Baseball Coach Chris Marx for an in-depth look at his first season at the helm of the Fightin' Camels. With a strong start to the 2025 campaign—including statement wins over East Carolina and a thrilling victory against Duke—Coach Marx breaks down what he's seen from his team so far, the adjustments they're making, and what lies ahead for Campbell this season. Coach Marx's journey to this role has taken him through various stops in college baseball, including stints as a pitching coach, hitting coach, and recruiting coordinator. We discuss his return to Campbell, where he previously served as an assistant, and how his time away prepared him for this opportunity. He also reflects on his long-standing relationship with former Campbell coach Justin Haire, now leading Ohio State, and how their connection has shaped his coaching philosophy. The Fightin' Camels kicked off 2025 with a challenging road series against top-25 UC Santa Barbara before settling into their home schedule, highlighted by their recent upset of Duke. Coach Marx details how his team executed against the Blue Devils, what aspects of their game have been most promising, and where they need to improve to reach their full potential. With Campbell now competing in the CAA after years of dominance in the Big South, he discusses the biggest differences in competition and what it will take to thrive in their new conference. Campbell has embraced the "Nobodies from Nowhere" mentality, proving year after year that they can compete with the best despite not being a traditional baseball powerhouse. Recruiting is always a battle, and Campbell finds itself in a talent-rich but highly competitive region. We dive into what sets the program apart, how they've expanded their recruiting footprint across the country, and the impact of NIL and the transfer portal on mid-major programs. Plus, we get Coach Marx's thoughts on the ongoing evolution of college baseball, including potential rule changes and the recent controversy in the Stetson vs. Florida game involving the first base safety bag. Campbell made history in 2024 with five former players appearing in MLB games—Cedric Mullins, Zach Neto, Ryan Thompson, Allan Winans, and Seth Johnson. Coach Marx shares his insights on what that MLB presence means for recruiting and which current Fightin' Camels have the potential to follow in their footsteps. We take a closer look at Dalen Thompson, a dynamic talent with power and speed who has already impressed early this season. As a former pitching coach, Coach Marx also weighs in on the alarming rise in elbow injuries across the sport, discussing the balance between player development and arm health. We wrap up the conversation with a fun debate on the best team names in college sports (besides the Fightin' Camels, of course) before Coach Marx gives his picks for the Mount Rushmore of Campbell University Athletics. 700 episodes of College Football Enquirer later, Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger and SI's Pat Forde are somehow STILL talking about the College Football Playoff format. Ross returns from Dallas, Texas with the latest news from the CFP Management Committee on impending changes to both the 2025 & 2026 playoff structure. These two playoffs are separate events but the decisions surrounding them are linked as the Big 12 and ACC try to leverage the power they DO have in the 2025 playoff into greater concessions from the SEC & Big Ten when they take control of the 2026 playoff. From potential changes to the quarterfinal bowl games, to a switch to straight seeding, to additional automatic qualification—Dan, Ross & Pat cover it all.Pat dives into his recent article about a gambling ring that allegedly tampered with obscure men's basketball games including the likes of Temple, East Carolina, Mississippi Valley State and more.
