Welcome back to another episode of 'All Good in The Sisterhood'. This week we are joined by Kat Wilson and we will be chatting about a condition called 'Vaginismus.'Kat is the co-founder of 'The Vaginismus Network', which was set up with Lisa Mackenzie when they connected through Kat's blog. Kat started her blog 'Hey Vaginismus!' in 2015, after years of feeling alone, embarrassed and ashamed. Her main goal was to meet one other person with vaginismus. Since meeting Lisa, and founding the Network, Kat has lost count of the number of people she has met who have vaginismus, and remains passionate about the power of connecting with others and sharing our stories. Kat is keen to speak about vaginismus to anyone that will listen and has told her story on podcasts and media interviews, as well as to health professionals and students. However, her biggest achievement is shaking off the shame that she once felt. Schools in the Indian state of Karnataka reopened yesterday after protests broke out in response to the state government trying to ban women wearing the hijab in classrooms. The issue gained widespread attention after videos and images of girls wearing hijab getting heckled while being denied entry to school went viral. Protestors took to the streets to condemn the decision, and women have marched in solidarity in cities across India. Divya Arya, BBC woman's affairs journalist and Sumayyah Khan, a law student at the Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh join Krupa Padhy. It's been announced that children aged between 5 and 11 in all four nations of the UK are to be offered a low dose of the covid vaccine. Children are at a much lower risk of becoming severely ill from a Covid infection, so the health benefits of vaccinating them are smaller than in other age-groups. Also, many will have some protection from already having caught the virus. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), which advises governments across the UK, have been weighing up the evidence for immunising five to 11-year-olds. It concluded vaccination should go ahead to prevent a "very small number of children from serious illness and hospitalisation" in a future wave of Covid. Dr Elizabeth Mann, an immunologist at the Lydia Becker Institute at the University of Manchester and Naomi Grimley, BBC Global Health Correspondent discuss. Isabelle Farah is a British Lebanese actor, comedian, and writer. Following an undergraduate degree in French and Film Studies, she trained as a classical actress. She started doing stand up comedy in 2017 and has since gigged across the UK and internationally. Her one woman comedy show, Ellipsis, about grief, authenticity and punchlines, enjoyed a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe last summer, and is currently on at the Pleasance Theatre in London. She explains the personal event that inspired it. New research funded by the Home Office has found that a tenth of domestic abuse cases involve parents being attacked by their children. These findings are based on almost 67,000 reports investigated by Lancashire police, of which 7,171 involved a child over 16 abusing a parent or parental figure. The reports show that abuse was more likely to be intimidating or coercive behaviour than outright violence and the age of the abuser averaged at 27 years old. Nicola Graham-Kevan is a professor of criminal justice psychology at the University of Central Lancashire and led the research. Kat Wilson is a senior support worker at Woman's Aid. In this episode I speak with Lisa Mackenzie and Kat Wilson about their personal experiences of vaginismus. We talk about what people can do if they are experiencing these issues, where they can go and how to find community.   About Lisa: After living with vaginismus for many years, and feeling broken and isolated, Lisa decided to take control of the situation. She met Kat Wilson, a vaginismus blogger, and very quickly they set up the Vaginismus Network after realising how life-changing it is to meet someone else who truly understands what you are going through. Lisa is passionate about supporting and empowering others living with vaginismus, and providing them with the sense of community that she believes she could have benefitted from as a young girl growing up with the condition. Lisa is a passionate public speaker and is always happy to share her experience to help others. Since setting up the network, she has spoken at numerous events, has engaged with university students and has featured on several podcasts, such as Standard Issue and Huff Post UK. Meet Kat Wilson. Kat is the Assistant Director of the Hudson Valley Additive Manufacturing Center (HVAMC). HVAMC is a 3D printing lab on the SUNY New Paltz campus - a favorite hang for the digital design and fabrication students there. Kat holds an MFA in Metals from SUNY New Paltz and has over ten years of experience with CAD, 3D printing, and other fabrication technologies. Today, Kat is going to teach us all about 3D printing technology, the medical and educational application of 3D printing, and digital design and fabrication. All extremely fascinating topics! Plus, we'll learn how she landed her dream job at the intersection of art and engineering. Rounding things out, we'll hit on how she navigates some of her work obstacles and manages burnout. She shares poignantly about recognizing opportunities that arise, and the importance of saying Yes bravely.
