The recent episodes aired on March 31st and April 1st introduced a mysterious silver-haired man played by Alan Wayne Anderson, leading to a flurry of speculations. During the episodes, characters Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols), Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), Andrew Donovan (Colton Little), and Paul Narita (Christopher Sean) find themselves in Estonia following a trail that they hope leads to John Black on the NBC Peacock soap opera.  DOOL fans see that while on this mission, the team encounters Orpheus (George DelHoyo), a villain from their past. After a series of events, they find a silver-haired man who Marlena fears might be John Black. The potential recasting of John Black has caused a stir among fans, especially since actor Drake Hogestyn agreed to a storyline involving the end of John Black's run on the soap opera due to his battle with cancer. However, Ken Corday, the executive producer, had a contingency plan to bring back the character if Hogestyn recovered.  Visit our Days of our Lives section of Soap Dirt: https://soapdirt.com/category/days-of-our-lives/ Listen to our Podcasts: https://soapdirt.podbean.com/ Check out our always up-to-date Days of our Lives Spoilers page at: https://soapdirt.com/days-of-our-lives-spoilers/ Check Out our Social Media... Click to Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt Days of Our Lives news shows that the former head writer Ron Carlivati's departure from the Peacock soap has finally been explained.  The reason behind his firing by his former boss, Ken Corday was due to a plotline that was written that fans really don't like.  NBC's decision to shift the long-running soap to their Peacock streaming platform in fall of 2022 led to an increase of 2 million subscribers, largely credited to the popularity of Days of Our Lives.  Despite the success, the show faced significant losses with the passing of actors Bill Hayes and Drake Hogestyn earlier this year. Carlivati's work will continue to air until April 2025, including his last major storyline, the tribute to Bill Hayes' character Doug Williams. However, the much-disliked soap within a soap, "Body and Soul," will not continue.  The decision to discontinue this storyline is believed to be a contributing factor to Carlivati's departure. With the appointment of two new female head writers, Corday hopes to shift the focus of the show towards more realistic interpersonal stories and away from what he termed as "science fiction." EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) is set to learn some shocking truths from Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty), including that the baby, thought to be his, is actually Nicole and Eric Brady's (Greg Vaughan). However, Leo Stark's (Greg Rikaart) allegations that the baby is EJ's could lead to a devastating confrontation.  As Arianne Zucker's exit from the NBC Peacock soap opera looms, fans are left questioning the future of her character Nicole Walker. Zucker's lawsuit against Ken Corday and Sony makes her return unlikely. With Nicole's departure, the baby secret could potentially remain under wraps, causing further drama for EJ, Sloan, and others involved. Meanwhile on DOOL, Leo Stark finds himself cut off from his allowance by Sloan Petersen, leading him to EJ. The ensuing revelation could have severe consequences for Sloan, who stole Nicole's baby in an attempt to keep Eric around. However, Sloan may use the truth to her advantage, potentially leading to an unexpected deal between her and EJ.  In a further twist, it seems Nicole might not be the only one making an exit. Jessica Serfaty, who plays Sloan, wasn't in the recent 15,000th episode cast photo, suggesting her character may also be leaving Salem. However, the full truth might not come out, leaving the door open for further drama and mystery in the long-running soap. A casting call has suggested a potential replacement for Camila Banus's character, Gabi Hernandez. Other high-profile exits include Aketra Sevillian's Talia Hunter, Nadia Bjorlin's Chloe Lane, Sal Stowers's Lani Price, Martha Madison's Belle Black, and Brandon Beemer's Shawn Douglas Brady. A recent departure is Arianne Zucker, who played Nicole Walker and was written out after raising issues of alleged sexual harassment on the soap opera set. Her last appearances are expected around June 2024. Other characters rumored to be recast include Belle Black, Shawn-Douglas Brady, and possibly Chloe Lane. However, fans are awaiting confirmation. The soap opera has faced allegations surrounding its treatment of cast members, with Zucker's lawsuit claiming that show owner Ken Corday maintains a friendship with Albert Alarr, who was barred from the show following harassment allegations. The soap opera continues to be a staple of daytime television, with viewers eagerly anticipating the unfolding drama and potential recasting. NBC has denied the allegations. Suzanne Rogers, Maggie Horton from NBC Daytime's Days of our Lives, will be making an appearance for the first time on BuzzWorthy Radio! A former Rockette, Rogers started with the show in 1973. Her character was killed off in 2003, the third victim of the Salem Stalker story arc. The storyline was controversial, and resulted in the firing of nine veteran actors over the course of a year. Eventually, executive producer Ken Corday rehired all of the fired actors with new contracts. The storyline was explained as being a hoax. Rogers is the only current cast member on Days to have won an Emmy in a competitive category. Rogers was diagnosed with the rare muscle disease myasthenia gravis in 1984, but is currently in remission. Later, Rogers insisted that her character, Maggie, be diagnosed with the same disease on the show, in order to educate viewers.

They talk about what this means for the remaining actors over forty still on the show and speculate who Ken Corday might axe next. They answer a reader's question of which is worse, to watch vets like Nichols and Evans get fired and keep the Days of Our Lives sets or have the show end up with a production model like Guiding Light. Luke asks if these latest firings could all be apart of Corday's scheme to get Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn back later in the year. Mike, Jamey and Jillian weigh in on if they think it is a realist possibility.Fans of Patch and Kayla and Days of Our Lives call in with their reaction to the surprising firings and vent their frustrations at the decisions by NBC, Corday, Higley and the other executives at the show.

Mouths around the soap world collectively dropped this weekend as the unthinkable happened. The recently-renewed Days of Our Lives, fired its biggest supercouple Deidre Hall (Dr. Marlena Evans) and Drake Hogestyn (John Black). In this special episode of the DC podcast Luke, Mike and Jamey invite veteran soap journalist Nelson Branco (TV Guide Canada's The Suds Report) and former Days writer Tom Casiello to weigh in from the perspective of industry insiders.Reactions to the shocking news are gauged from the panel, including: Branco, who reveals Days of Our Lives was the first soap he ever watched and how he first fell in love with the ravishing Hall even before discovering Andrea Evans and One Life to Live; and Casiello, who during his last few months on the soap before the Writers' Strike, was part of a team under Hogan Sheffer that was forced to script out the soap's "Big Four" (Hall, Hogestyn, Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell) due to their reported astronomical salaries and ultimately made the decision to kill of the wildly-popular character of John Black— since they were prohibited from using Hogestyn— only to see executive producer Ken Corday panic about fan response and order them to bring the character and actor back. The DC gang also give their perspective based on their varying histories with the show. Jamey, who has been watching the show for the better part of three decades, reveals his dismay that lower level stars like Molly Burnett, Shelly Hennig, Josh Taylor, Thaao Penghlis, Leanne Hunley and Shawn Christian weren't cut first before the show even considered touching the Big Four; Mike, who watched in the early 80's and only recently tuned back in, conveys he still can't believe the show hired Josh Taylor, who once played Roman and Marlena's pal Chris Kositchek as a recast for Wayne Northrop's Roman, with Branco adding that move was a "Jump The Shark" moment for him as well before noting that Taylor is good friends with Corday; Luke, who has watched Days sine the 90's, speculates the brass could be moving to strategically weed out most of the show's veteran performers to repackage Days for an eventual sale to ABC or SOAPnet. The discussion then moves to what this means for the future of Days of Our Lives and the genre as a whole. If an international superstar like Hall isn't safe, who could be next? Reckell? Alfonso? Sweeney? Taking it a step further, will other soaps start to think their top stars are expendable? Could we see a day when the headline is "Susan Lucci Out", or "Eric Braeden Axed"? This is an episode of Daytime Confidential you don't want to miss.
