In 1958, the Tuck family was plagued by a series of eerie, spontaneous fires – flames that defied logic, burned with strange colors, and followed them wherever they went, leaving behind a haunting with more questions than answers.IN THIS EPISODE: In the late 1950s, the Tuck family of Alabama found themselves at the center of a terrifying ordeal as mysterious fires spontaneously erupted in their home. Despite their best efforts to escape the flames, the fiery phenomenon followed them from one residence to another, consuming their possessions and leaving them homeless. We'll look at this case and other similar ones where the seeming explanation is nothing short of paranormal. (Paranormal Flames) *** In the sleepy Kentish hamlet of Charing, a centuries-old mystery unfolds every May Day. As the clock strikes midnight, ghostly children emerge from their moss-encrusted graves, their ethereal feet dancing to the silent fiddle's tune. It's all part of the "Night of the Dancing Feet." (Dancing After Death) *** Before his wife's murder in June 2009, Eli Weaver had numerous affairs with women he met through online dating sites, where he called himself an "Amish Stud." But only one mistress was willing to kill for him. (Eli Weaver, Amish Stud and Murderer) *** The American West evokes iconic images often seen in movies: bold adventures, noon shootouts, resolute sheriffs and marshals maintaining order, and the cavalry arriving just in time. However, the history of the Wild West, replete with myths and stereotypes, presents a more complex and sometimes disturbing reality about justice in that era. (Wild West Justice) *** On the morning of July 13, 1997, the body of Denise Johnson was discovered inside her burning childhood home in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Emergency responders quickly realized they weren't dealing with a simple arson, but a murder as well.  Now, more than two decades later, the case remains unsolved. (The Unsolved Murder of Denise Johnson) *** Hachishakusama, often referred to as the "Japanese Slender Man," is a haunting figure from Japanese urban legends that rivals the terror of her American counterpart. While the Slender Man has gained a cult-like following and has even inspired real-life horror stories, Hachishakusama's tale is equally spine-chilling and capable of keeping you up at night. Send us a textThis entire episode comes with a trigger warning. It is not for the faint of heart. Be warned. For those that are still with me, have you ever heard of spontaneous human combustion? I'd argue one of the most mysterious ways to die, if true, then why does this phenomenon stop and start over the course of a century and a half and then...just...disappear? Let's get into it. Spontaneous Human Combustion 101Let's begin at the beginning. Spontaneous human combustion (SHC) is the idea that a person's body can catch fire without an apparent external source of ignition. The term was coined in the 19th century, and the phenomenon has been debated for centuries. How to Explain Spontaneous Human Combustion, from PS Mag dot comKatie Heaney writes, " While there's no proof that any human being has ever suddenly burst into flames and died, there's also no proof that it hasn't happened."Heaney continues, " At some point in the 15 hours or so prior to the evening of March 26, 1986, a 58-year-old former firefighter named George Mott apparently burst into flames and died. When he was found that night, what remained of him were mostly the ashes on the floor beneath his mattress, which his body had apparently burned through. There was more, but reports vary a little as to what; Wikipedia says they found “an implausibly shrunken skull” (as opposed to the plausible level of shrunkenness, I guess) and a piece of rib cage. Others say it was a shrunken skull and the lower half of his right leg. Either way, the scene found in Mott's Crown Point, New York, apartment was pretty grim.Show Sources and MaterialsSpontaneous human combustion in the 21st Century, PubMedAblaze! by Larry E. Spontaneous human combustionSpontaneous human combustion, (also called preternatural combustibility, or auto-oxidation), happens when living or recently deceased human body erupts into flames without any apparent external ignition source. Description of this phenomenon has been around since the 7th Century occurring in both literature and popular media, including a notable death in Dickens’ Bleak House in which the Slimy Mr. Krook bursts into flames and is reduced to ashes - presumably as a sort of karmic payment for his misdeeds. It’s thought that he received the information to write the passage from a book popular at the time, the Anatomy of Drunkenness by Robert Macnish which cites 30 cases and a list of authorities that claim that SHC is possible when one consumes too much liquor.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_human_combustion#:~:text=Spontaneous%20human%20combustion%20(SHC)%20is,apparent%20external%20source%20of%20ignition.&text=Current%20scientific%20consensus%20is%20that,overlooked%20external%20sources%20of%20ignition.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woy4tYS5x1Mhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DJ_2qWrqs4https://www.livescience.com/42080-spontaneous-human-combustion.htmlhttps://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/unexplained-phenomena/shc.htmhttps://www.britannica.com/story/is-spontaneous-human-combustion-realhttps://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/features/spontaneous-human-combustion-woman-who-suffered-burns-in-germany-spurs-debate-about-controversial-a6722166.htmlhttps://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/8200790/spontaneous-human-combustion-real-burns-incendiary-bomb-scientist-claims/https://io9.gizmodo.com/10-cases-of-spontaneous-human-combustion-5855700https://u.osu.edu/vanzandt/2019/03/21/its-gettin-hot-in-here-a-look-into-spontaneous-human-combustion/Ablaze!, by Larry E. Welcome back to Dream a Little Dream podcast! Our space to talk about art, life, and everything in between. Spontaneous Human Combustion gets categorized in all the weird science parascience genre but I have become increasingly interested in the subject. I am in the middle of writing a novel – middle being about 4 years into who knows how long it will take me to finish – NO! It is my 2019 New Year’s Resolution to finish the novel. In the Novel there are spontaneous human combustions and I wanted to get a smart and intelligent take on the theories behind the topic. I found the book titled: ABLAZE! The Mysterious Fires of Spontaneous Human Combustion written by Larry E. Arnold. I reached out to him over the winter as a stab in the dark to see what he thought about what I wrote and to ask him a few questions about his research. He provided me with a wealth of knowledge and some articles that he wrote. He was so generous. I was trying to actually finish by the end of November last year and was on a tight deadline so I didn’t have time for the book to ship – or I would have bought it. When I realized I wasn’t going to make the deadline and 2019 was going to have to be my year I purchased his book and found the book to be densely packed with more than 100 theories for how spontaneous human combustion occurs. You may be one of the naysayer and not believe in spontaneous combustion or you may be intrigued and curious about the topic as I am. It doesn’t matter which camp of thought you ascribe to, you don’t have to believe in spontaneous human combustion to enjoy this episode. Since this podcast is about following your dreams and about the people who are doing just that I wanted to feature Larry E. Arnold for the exact reason that there is so much opposition on the subject and in the face of it he has not given up. In this recording he shares some of the stories about people who told him he was full of *****. Bleep! But even so, that doesn’t stop him and he is still out there finding more evidence and testing his theories. It is a courageous act to follow your dreams and even moreso to do it in the face of vehement opposition. Kudos to Larry E. Arnold. If you want to find him and share your spontaneous combustion stories you can contact him through his website. He is a truly pleasant person to speak with and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! ABLAZE - SPONTANEOUS HUMAN COMBUSTION - author Larry E. Arnold is our guest. "There's one mystery I'm asked about more than any other-- spontaneous human combustion," says Arthur C. Clarke, author of 2001, on his 1994 TV program Mysterious Universe. "Some cases seem to defy explanation, and leave me with a creepy and very unscientific feeling. If there's anything more to SHC, I simply don't want to know." Thus has spontaneous human combustion (SHC) remained the hidden malady for more than 100 years, and a hotly debated one for centuries more. No longer. In this amazing book are hundreds of unbelievable examples of The Fire Within, culled from long-forgotten obscure medical journals and never-before-published interviews with witnesses to the impossible.
