Geraldine Herbert, Sunday Independent Motoring Editor on the European Commisions expected decision to end the EU's effective ban on sales of new combustion-engine cars from 2035.
The European Union once set an ambitious goal: by 2035, all new cars sold would be fully electric. But now, the BBC understands that Brussels is considering scrapping, or at least watering down, its plan to ban new petrol and diesel vehicles. So what could it mean for carmakers and consumers across Europe?South Korea and the UK have signed a new trade deal.In the US, people applying for a skilled worker visa will now have their social media profiles screened. And who's winning the race to build the most sophisticated AI models?(Photo: An exhaust pipe of a car is pictured on a street in Berlin, Germany. PORTSMOUTH, ENGLAND has banned Christmas wreaths on the doors of council flats because they are allegedly a fire hazard—but they're OK inside the apartments. What?! The real reason is the secular city council doesn't want to see symbols of the season where Christians celebrate the birth of Christ. Similarly, the leader of the largest far-left party in France, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, said this week, “Christianity is patriarchal, and women have to cover up and submit to men. In Islam, women submit to God only, therefore, their veil represents freedom and dignity.” It's obvious M. Mélenchon has never read the Quran or the Bible. But that's the direction government is going. In Canada, government is on the verge of criminalizing portions of the Bible, Quran, and Torah as hate speech as the religious exemption from hate-speech laws. We know such things are to be expected from secular globalist governments, but it's still disturbing when it's being rolled out in front of us. When Subaru revealed two different STI concepts at the Japan Mobility show at the end of October, one Electric, and one Combustion, it started a lot of discussions.A few of which you have likely seen here on our channel and on the Podcast. The majority of Subaru Enthusiasts are very excited about getting an STI back in the lineup that has a traditional combustion engine for power delivery, even though there haven't been any details about price, power, or performance. For this episode, I wanted to bring together people that have a lot of experience with Subaru's, but also experience with EV's as well to make sure that we were giving the potential EV path of the STI a fair amount of consideration as well.Tony from Turn in Concepts competed in Gridlife for 2 years in a Tesla Model 3 Performance, Brian from iWire daily drives a Rivian R1T Quad motor truck, and Steve (aka. Kostamojen) has had and built a number of Subaru's, but currently drives and tracks a Hyundai Ioniq 5N.There was a lot to discuss here, and if nothing else, this makes it clear that this question is not as simple as it would seem from the initial reactions to the STI concepts. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!

We begin with a trigger warning, this week we talk about the results of people apparently catching fire spontaneously and the gruesome remains that sometimes leaves behind. We attempt to go easy but still if you find yourself challenged by some of these descriptions, feel free to skip the episode. You matter. What a week! This week we tackle the burning subject (quite literally( of spontaneous human combustion. We dig into historic cases both fairly mundane and incredibly strange. We discuss cases and theories from ancient to modern, including the wick effect and how it literally demands the person sit in one place, unmoving while they burn to mostly ash. We discuss the very strange case of Mary Reeser and so much more and we also talk to author, and friend of the show, Dan B. Fierce about his upcoming plans. Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech TrainingIn this technical deep-dive, Matt Fanslow tackles the misconceptions surrounding Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) in modern engines. Far from just a NOx-reduction tool, EGR plays a critical role in thermal efficiency, throttling losses, and combustion control. Matt dismantles common myths (like "lean burns hotter") and explains why engineers use EGR—even as technology evolves.Key Topics CoveredEGR's Real PurposeBeyond NOx reduction: How inert exhaust gases slow flame fronts, improve thermal efficiency, and reduce throttling losses. Why lean air/fuel ratios don't burn hotter—but can still cook exhaust valves.Throttling Losses & EfficiencyHow EGR allows wider throttle openings, reducing engine workload and boosting fuel economy. The link between EGR, Atkinson/Miller cycles, and extended combustion push.Internal EGR & Valve TimingModern engines use cam phasing to trap exhaust gases, creating insulating "pockets" that reduce heat loss to cylinder walls.SAE paper highlights: HCCI engines, controlled auto-ignition, and residual gas effects. Why This Matters for TechniciansUnderstanding EGR helps diagnose drivability issues, software updates, and emission failures.Matt's rabbit-hole warning: Complexity is growing, but so are diagnostic opportunities.Notable Quotes"Lean air/fuel ratios burn longer, not hotter—that's why exhaust valves fry.""EGR isn't just about emissions; it's about making the engine work smarter, not harder.""The more you know why engineers do something, the better you'll diagnose it."Resources & ReferencesSAE Papers (Available at sae.org):Lean Burn SI Engines: NOx Control via Air/Fuel Ratio Modulation (2017)Impact of Valve Timing on Cold Start Emissions in GDI Engines (2019)Effects of Valve Timing on Residual Gas, Combustion, and Heat Transfer (2009)Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech TrainingNAPA Autotech's team of ASE Master Certified Instructors are conducting over 1,200 classes covering 28 automotive topics. It's claimed despite the rise in popularity of electric vehicles in Clare, there will always be a demand for traditional combustion engines in rural parts of the county. New data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows that in the first six months of the year, 1,710 vehicles were newly registered in Clare, with electric cars making up 218 of those registered. Petrol cars remain the most sought-after with a 27% market share, closely followed by petrol-electric hybrids, which represent 22% of all purchases nationwide. General Manager of Sheils Motor Group, Eddie Rynne, says there's still some concerns over battery life of fully electric vehicles, leading to the popularity of hybrids models.

Applying the Disney Standard: Communication & Combustion Points | E257Highlights from this episode: Applying the Disney Standard: Communication & Combustion Points | E257 (01:05)Closing Thought: The power of positive feedback (19:28)One of my practice's main core values is "Care". This value has evolved over the last year as it became clear that we were very good at caring for our patients... but we were NOT caring for each other as team members. This led me to implement principles from the Disney Institute to help our staff support each other while still giving incredible patient care. This also required a shift in focus from purely monetary goals to prioritizing a positive team environment. As we've implemented these changes, there is a night and day difference in attitudes and energy in our practice!

Ford's Vice Chair John Lawler recently dropped a bombshell that's sent ripples through the automotive world: combustion engines will no longer be brand differentiators and automakers will increasingly source them from suppliers to stay competitive against low-cost rivals, particularly from China. For generations, car manufacturers have built their identities around their signature powertrains – Ford's EcoBoost, Chrysler's HEMI, Chevy's small-block V8s – engines that enthusiasts could identify by sound alone. But according to Lawler, "consumers don't really think about powertrains the way they did 30 years ago." The shift toward hybridization has already begun stripping away the unique characteristics of combustion engines as electric motors increasingly provide power boosts and emission reductions. We dubbed this the "skateboard effect" – the standardization that began with electric vehicles is now creeping into traditional combustion engine territory. This raises profound questions about brand identity, warranties, and consumer choice. If Ford, Chevy, and Ram all use identical engines from the same supplier, how will they differentiate their trucks beyond cosmetics and features? What happens when an outsourced engine faces recalls – will we see industry-wide disruptions similar to the Takata airbag crisis? And perhaps most importantly, what does this mean for performance vehicle segments and enthusiast markets that have thrived on distinctive powertrains? This philosophical shift signals how dramatically electrification has changed the industry's trajectory, even for traditional combustion vehicles. While average consumers might not notice the difference, this potential outsourcing strategy represents perhaps the most fundamental change to how cars are designed, built, and marketed since the mass production of the automobile began. Join us as we explore what this means for the future of automotive enthusiasm and brand loyalty in an increasingly homogenized market.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. What word starts with "F” and ends with "uck?” “Firetruck," of course! Episode #156 hits the ground running with Lindsay's story about a guy in England who loved him some firetrucks. But scratching that itch to see a big red pumper (!) isn't always so easy. Then Jethro tells us about a guy who had a novel technique to score not only some quick cash, but two free pizzas! What went wrong? Well, as Sean Connery so aptly put it in “The Hunt For Red October,” “Not everything in here reacts well to bullets.” Tune in to find out what happened – but remember to wash your hands first! Ron Bienvenu joins us for a very intriguing chat about his philosophy and latest book "The Fifth Shock - Human Agency in the Post Biological Age of the Stack". We talk about his tangles in tech and Wall Street going back to the early 00's, his first book The Fourth Shock, asynchronous data, Big data, ai, block chain, The Stack, examples like Northern Telecom collapse, network supremacy, universal behavioural income, monetizing personal data, economic theories, taxes and money printing, capitalism, the Node State, and the LA machine version of beauty. In the second half we get into King Trump of North America, meeting Trump, stick in the eye, people need to rise up, non violent revolutions, the Ptolemaic system, The Catholic Church and papacy, Copernicus, the Rise of Homo Noeticus, the scale example, more on the The Stack, TLC, pain and suffering, Making Love and Atlas Shrugged. Philosopher, entrepreneur, and digital futurist exploring the collision between technology, ethics, and human identity. The Fifth Shock is not just a book—it's a revelation. It proposes that we are living through a civilizational mutation more profound than the Agricultural or Industrial Revolutions. I call this mutation “The Stack”—a digital, planetary infrastructure that is reshaping reality, identity, economics, even death itself. But unlike previous shocks in history, this one targets the soul. The book traces five evolutionary engines—Agriculture, Combustion, Electrification, Digitization, and now the Stack. Each turned the human being into something new. The Stack, however, does not just change what we do—it changes what we are. Surveillance, algorithmic prediction, biometric data mining, and behavioral finance are no longer science fiction—they are infrastructure. They are the new gods. https://x.com/TheFifthShock https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F53Q4K8W?ref=cm_sw_r_ffobk_cp_ud_dp_Z2VJTF6SCWT6H5473B9N&ref_=cm_sw_r_ffobk_cp_ud_dp_Z2VJTF6SCWT6H5473B9N&social_share=cm_sw_r_ffobk_cp_ud_dp_Z2VJTF6SCWT6H5473B9N&bestFormat=true&previewDoh=1 To gain access to the second half of show and our Plus feed for audio and podcast please clink the link http://www.grimericaoutlawed.ca/support. In this informative podcast episode, Bryan from HVAC School is joined by Louise Keller, the National Training Manager for UEI Test Instruments, to discuss the critical importance of carbon monoxide safety and proper combustion analysis. The conversation begins with lighthearted banter about the previous night's Tactical Awards ceremony before diving into the serious topic of CO dangers and detection. Louise shares valuable insights about the dangers of carbon monoxide exposure, particularly at lower levels that might not trigger standard home CO alarms. She explains that CO poisoning can mimic many other conditions, including early-onset Alzheimer's, traumatic brain injury, and mobility issues. Bryan adds historical context by recounting how many Victorian-era "ghost stories" and fainting episodes coincided with the introduction of gas lighting in homes, suggesting these phenomena were likely CO poisoning symptoms. He also shares the little-known story of Walt Disney's parents, who tragically died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a house that Disney built for them. The discussion shifts to practical applications, with Louise explaining the proper use of combustion analyzers and the importance of regular recertification. They emphasize that visual inspection alone is not sufficient for safety, and proper testing is essential for both client safety and equipment efficiency. The conversation concludes with information about UEI's ServicePlus Guaranteed program, which offers extended warranty coverage, same-day recertification turnaround, transparent pricing, and convenient shipping for analyzers. Key Topics Covered: The dangers of carbon monoxide as an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas How low-level CO exposure can cause serious health issues that mimic other conditions The limitations of standard home CO alarms, which typically won't trigger until reaching 70 PPM for 1-4 hours Proper combustion analyzer startup procedures (starting outside in fresh air) The importance of checking all combustion appliances in a home (furnaces, water heaters, ovens, etc.) Best practices for comprehensive testing, including "appliance sweep tests" Historical context of CO poisoning, including connections to Victorian ghost stories UEI's ServicePlus Guaranteed program for analyzer recertification and warranty extension The importance of regular recertification to ensure accurate readings and maintain warranty coverage Tips for helping clients schedule regular maintenance and safety checks Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast?
