You asked, we're doing it: A second Fleur de Louve episode WITH a guest (welcome back, Mia!) so we can spend all the time talking about this rare and beautiful love between Sarah Wilson and Bucky Barnes. There might also be a brief detour where we talk about enlisting the celebrities who follow us (yes, BOTH of them) to help us write a Broadway musical about this very thing. And maybe a threat against anyone who tries to harm Sarah in any upcoming Marvel properties. Maybe. Probably. I realized this was not the case when a friend introduced me to a healthier way of living. I started with one small change. Once I built that habit, I made the next small change. When I took care of myself and got consistent, I was able to give more of myself to the things that were important to me --- my family, my students, my friends, my coworkers, my hobbies. Please Leave a Review! The latest A Tale of Two Hygienists delves into the particulars of X-ray imagining and how hygienists can keep on top of this irradiating subject through continuing education. To this end, Michelle has invited back a guest who has appeared on the show enough times that she might as well be considered an honorary co-host. Emily Boge, RDH, is the dental administrative chair at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa, and serves as the program chairs for dental assisting and dental hygiene. In addition, she is a product innovator for American Eagle Instruments and a speaker/consultant under her own Think Big Dental brand. In this episode, Emily discusses one of the more difficult radiology imaging concepts for hygiene students to grasp, emphasizes how hygienists are accountable for what’s on the X-ray image, and defines the oddly-named S.L.O.B. rule. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Interview starts: 3:54 - What you can expect out of Emily’s “Five Hour Power Pack” for radiology CE. - Why Emily can’t imagine learning without a phosphor plate. - Taking a closer look at some key terminology using a popsicle stick analogy. - When should you bisect the angle? - The “safe zone” for a handheld X-ray and how Emily’s height complicated using that device. - What is the S.L.O.B. rule? QUOTES: “The key to... understanding anything in X-ray is to understand parallel vs. perpendicular.” “It’s very important when you first start taking X-rays that you learn correctly.” “You don’t have to have a fancy, fancy camera to be able to get high quality intraoral images.” “It takes one patient to pay for that one intraoral camera.” LINKS: Emily’s email - emily@thinkbigdental.com OR emily.boge@hawkeyecollege.edu THIS EPISODE COUNTS FOR CE! - but read the disclaimer below as it might not count for your state. Today's episode is with Emily Grass. Emily is a yoga educator that specializes in helping Empaths. She uses the tools of yoga to help Empaths trust their intuition, protect their energy, and sharpen their superpower, and does this through movement, meditation, and mindfulness training. SHOW NOTES: "If we don't learn how to disconnect, sometimes it can be overwhelming and leave us drained and leave us not wanting to leave the house or do anything." (5:00) "A lot of us assume that other people can feel what we feel so we assume that they'll read our body language or they'll feel our energy when other people aren't empaths and they can't do that. So we really have this responsibility to tell people what we need." (8:15) "It can feel really uncomfortable to set boundaries for that reason, it can feel selfish or you feel guilty like you're taking something away from someone else." (10:13) "If you can't find the time to take care of yourself then you really need to think about that, and sit with that, and figure out how you can prioritize yourself and see that you are important and that you can't pour from an empty cup." 12:35 LINKS: Emily's Free Gift Guided Meditation Emily's Website @: @Emily_Grass_Yoga

When your job requires you to get right up close and personal to a patient’s mouth, you need to really get on top of your cleanliness game—especially before you graduate and start your career as a hygienist. So, to that end, we’ve brought on three veterans of the dental industry who specialize in keeping the hygienist’s workspace as healthy as possible for patient and professional alike. Emily Boge, RDH, is the dental administrative chair at Hawkeye Community College and a product innovator with American Eagle Instruments. Joy Void-Holmes is also a dental hygienist and serves part-time on the faculty of Fortis College. Michelle Lee is the executive director of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP), a body that advocates for safe and clean oral healthcare. In this episode, our guests discuss which bad sanitary habits you need to ditch before entering the workforce, explain how you can become certified in infection control, and examine what holds dental offices back from maintaining good sanitation. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Interview starts: 3:02 - What our guests feel is the most important lessons dental hygiene students learn from the get-go. - Their advice for which bad habits students absolutely need to get rid of and why they need to get on top of their mask game. - Why Michelle believes social media is playing an important role in educating everybody about infection control. - What steps you can take to get yourself certified in infection prevention. - The reason students and newly employed hygienists might be reluctant to speak up about infection control issues, even if they have the proper knowledge. - The importance of fostering a more honest environment in a dental office where people with sanitation concerns can speak up without fear of reprisal. - Why you’ll need to sacrifice some of your personal style if you wish to keep your office free from infection. - What questions you should ask about infection control, and what you should be on the lookout for, when job hunting. QUOTES: “If you’re working in a high-aerosol environment with a Level One mask, you’re not getting the adequate protection you need.” “This is how we practice safe dentistry in our office, and you need to go through this training.” “Unfortunately sometimes we have to require things for them to get done.” “They think they’re saving money, but what they’re really gonna end up being is sick.” “These folks that are very, very infection control-conscious, they get kind of a bad rap in the office and that makes me sad.” “We’re protecting ourselves and the patient, and no job is worth your safety and security.” “If you want your students to behave a certain way then you have to emulate that behavior.” LINKS: Emily’s email: emily@thinkbigdental.com Joy on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/drjoyrdh/ Joy on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/drjoyrdh/ Joy on Twitter - https://twitter.com/DrJoyRDH Joy’s email: info@drjoyrdh.com OSAP homepage - https://www.osap.org/ Michelle’s email: mlee@osap.org Thank you to Paradise Dental Technologies aka PDT for providing sponsorship for this episode!
