An in-demand performer, Andreini maintains an active performance career playing regularly in ensembles such as the wcfsymphony and Theater Cedar Rapids, and many orchestras throughout the Midwest. His dynamic career includes frequent solo appearances, dozens of concerti performances, as well as numerous international tours spanning Europe, Central, and South America. Notably, as a chamber musician he has shared the stage with acclaimed groups such as the Boston Brass and the Enso String Quartet. In the summers, Matt can often be found giving outdoor concerts with his Rosewood Novelty Band, which performs “xylophone rags” and popular music of the teens and 20s. He is also a member of the Sugar Daddies big band which has added several of Andreini's own arrangements to their repertoire. As an advocate for contemporary music, Andreini spearheads innovative initiatives, commissioning works for solo, duo, and percussion ensembles. His collaborations with acclaimed composers like Steve Snowden, Ivan Trevino, Mark Ford, and Kevin Bobo have been instrumental in bringing new compositions to life. Recently, he secured grant funding from the Iowa Arts Council/National Endowment for the Arts to record his upcoming album, "Tapestry," featuring a collection of his recent commissions. Co-directing the "Iowa/Hungary Project" alongside Hungarian percussionist Gabor Palotas, Andreini has established a platform for cultural exchange, commissioning and premiering over 50 works since its inception. This initiative underscores their commitment to fostering artistic dialogue and amplifying representation from local communities. In 2017, the duo celebrated a significant milestone with the release of their full-length CD, "All Systems Go." Andreini currently serves as a percussion instructor at the University of Northern Iowa and is the Personnel Manager for wcfsymphony where he also performs in the percussion section. His previous teaching positions include roles at Hawkeye Community College, Southwestern Community College, and Joyful Noise Drums and Percussion. The dedication he brings to teaching is evident in the success of his students, many of whom have excelled in competitions and pursued flourishing careers as both educators, performers, and industry leaders.   Tapestry | Matt Andreini

Noah Richards is 11 days away from graduating high school and pursing the life he loves, farming.  Noah's parents purchased their own land and had their own dairy infrastructure built after they were married.  They have been dairy farming ever since, and this is how Noah and his sister grew up.  Noah has his sights set on this life as well. After high school graduation he will head to Hawkeye Community College for two years to study agricultural business with the hopes of returning to the farm.  During that two year period, he and his parents will have to assess how this is financially possible.  Is there a way that having Noah on the farm as a full-time employee will increase revenue enough to pay his salary?  This is a problem that many farms and ranches must solve when a child wants to come back. There are no employees on Noah's family dairy.  His sister is now an FFA Advisor, so it is just Noah and his parents taking care of things.  Therefore, there is not an employee position that could be eliminated to make room for Noah.  Expansion?  A new enterprise?  A service business?  What are the options to make this happen?

Welcome back, Peeps!    Today, the multi-talented and widely accomplished Emily Boge MPA, RDH, CDA joins us to tell us about her career from the beginning. Emily’s story begins on a hog farm in rural Iowa where she and her 10 siblings grew up. We follow her through her early education, where she played the sousaphone (Katrina psychically intuits this) and invented a motion-activated flycatcher called the “Fly-Vacuum”, which won her a full ride to the University of Iowa.    Today, Emily Boge designs dental instruments, is a Dental Administrative Chair and is an active speaker and writer in the dental community. Her innovative spirit is apparent in her work and her drive to push skills to new limits. It is such a joy to have this lifelong academic on our show to talk about the state of dental hygienist programs and what dental school is really all about. We cover some of these topics and much more: How hard should dental courses be? What does it take to be a great dental educator? Is it worth going to dental school during the Covid-19 pandemic? How do you find time to write while working overtime? How has the pandemic affected dental programs?   Emily Boge in her own words: Emily Boge, MPA, RDH, CDA is the Dental Administrative Chair at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa. In this role, she serves the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene Program students, the faculty of the programs, and the staff of the Dental Clinic. Prior to accepting this position in July of 2015, she practiced as a full-time dental hygienist at Dental Associates of Manchester in Manchester, Iowa. In addition to working at the College, she maintains an active career completing research, product development, and evaluation of products for several major dental companies. She also enjoys speaking and writing research for professionals and facts for consumers in dentistry. She enjoys all facets of dental hygiene and dentistry and prides herself on thinking outside the box when it comes to dental innovation and practice standards; especially when she can apply new ideas to clinical techniques that improve the current standard of care. Emily designed and marketed the Boge513™ scaler, sold by American Eagle Instruments. This instrument won the 2017 Dental Excellence Award: Best New Instrument/Device. Emily also designed the Centennial Scaler, manufactured by Hu-Friedy Instruments. Emily graduated from Hawkeye Community College Dental Assisting (2000) and Dental Hygiene (2003) Programs prior to completing her Bachelor’s in Psychology with a focus in Gerontology (2012) and a Master’s in Public Administration (2015) at Upper Iowa University, and values lifelong education. She is a current doctoral student at Franklin University in Columbus, OH studying to receive her EdD in Higher EducationOrganizational Leadership. As a native rural Iowan, Emily is married to a fifth-generation family farmer and machinist, and they live on their crop farm with their two sons. Emily enjoys cooking and baking, target shooting, four wheeling, reading, and shopping. This month’s student roundtable introduces ATotH’s new series for July: ergonomics.   Emily Boge, RDH, is the dental administrative chair at Hawkeye Community College and also serves as the program chairs for dental assisting and dental hygiene. Lancette Van Guilder has practiced dental hygiene for a quarter of a century and currently splits her time between private practice and working as a continuing education speaker, including courses on ergonomics. She’s part of a “power team” with her husband, Ward, a physical therapist who specializes in occupational health and wellness.    In this episode, our guests discuss the essentials of posture, examine a study on impact of poor posture, and explain what you can do to feel as hale and hearty 20 years down the road as you are now.     EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:   Interview starts: 3:38   - Lancette and Ward discuss an article on the long term effects of poor posture on muscle imbalances among dental hygienists.   - The “cone of stability” and how sitting and standing have different effects on your body.   - Why even veteran hygienists can benefit from having a student shadow them for a little while.   - Emily expresses her concern about the lack of consistency in teaching ergonomics among hygiene schools.   - The importance of resting your feet on the ground and not on the chair legs when sitting down.       QUOTES:   “The goal of ergonomic training and education is [a] neutral working position.”   “The vast majority of dental hygienists do not work in a neutral position.”   “If I have one thing to say to the students that are listening, it’s that you need to advocate to the people who make the decisions.”   “It is a lot harder to unteach a bad habit than it is to learn it the right way.”   LINKS:   Hygienist for Health: https://www.hygienistforhealth.com/   Lancette’s email: lancettevg@gmail.com    How to adjust your saddle stool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEDDgAP3Ctk   Emily’s email: emily@thinkbigdental.com        A Tale of Two Hygienists homepage - https://ataleoftwohygienists.com/     AToTH on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/aTaleOfTwoHygienists/     AToTH on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ataleoftwohygienists     AToTH on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/atoth/?originalSubdomain=ca
