Samurai Cop is a 1991 American direct-to-video action film written, co-produced and directed by Amir Shervan and starring Robert Z'Dar, Matt Hannon and Mark Frazer. It has attained a cult following.
Samurai Cop from 1991 is a bad film. Actually, saying that, it is an AMAZING film. It's the standard by what bad films should be. It's an important film for us, as it's the film that Jay and I watched that made us say "hey, let's record a podcast about films as bad as this..." so we felt it was a good candidate for our 1st anniversary special. That's right, we've been waffling on for a year. As a variation from the normal theme, we chat along live with the episode as it plays out instead of batching up our thoughts as a conversation. Indulge our stream of consciousness special! Make sure you count along with how many dog-hair similes we come up with. Note: this is heavily edited so you can't really do a listen-along! Maybe we'll release it in a future episode... LINKS!

It’s turkey week here at Not a Bomb and to celebrate the gang discusses what might possibly be the biggest turkey of all time - the 1991 direct-to-video action film, Samurai Cop. This film stars one of the worst wigs in cinema history and a man who has become known as “The Face”. Joined by our good friend, Nathan Atkinson, the guys examine what makes Samurai Cop such a “special” movie. Is it the awkward sex scenes? The fact a man changes ethnicity after burning? The dialogue and ADR? Or, simply that the film’s hero wears a ridiculous wig for half the movie?Samurai Cop is directed by Amir Shervan and stars, Matt Hannon, Robert Z.Dar, Mark Frazer, Gerald Okamura. If you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com. Also, if you like what you hear, leave a review on Apple Podcast.Additionally, the guys discuss the following films:Stray Dog - 1949Frogs - 1972Running Scared - 1986The Nice Guys - 2016Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance - 2015Enter the Samurai -2016

Our second block of Shitty Movie Summer has begun! It's now Shane Wilson's turn to contribute and he comes out swinging for the fences with 1991's Samurai Cop! In this cult-classic G-movie, the 'Samurai Cop' Joe Marshall, who has been trained by 'the masters' in Japan, is a tough cop from San Diego who is in LA to help capture the fledgling but dangerous Katana Gang. This film stars The Maniac Cop, Joe Cordell, aka Robert Z'Dar (RIP) as our top-billed baddie who isn't even the main character, and Matt Hannon, aka Matt Karedas as our title character, Samurai Cop. This film has it all: awkward sexual innuendos, casual cultural appropriation, pseudo casual racism/stereotyping, not one but two token stereotype characters, and a creepy blue van. Yes. This early 90s cult gem has it all. So sit back and listen to the Plotaholics discuss Samurai Cop!Other topics of discussion:Bryan is binging The Goldbergs!Shane is watching Unsolved Mysteries!Support the show (https://plotaholics.com)

Special guest Ryan joins us as we speculate as to what might have been... During the boom of action movies and video stores that exploded (literally) throughout the 80's and early 90's, many people got a chance to be an action hero. Everyone from Van Damme to Jay Roberts Jr. to Matt Hannon and many, many more got their moment in the sun. But what about those that didn't? With new mom and pop video stores cropping up every day and looking to fill shelf space, you'd think the people on the lists we came up with would get that chance. Who are they? Tune in to find out...
http://www.searchforschlock.com/media/podcasts/sfs-144-SamuraiCop.mp3 Download MP3 We've been big fans of improbably-jawed actor Robert Z'Dar at least since we saw him play Russia's greatest warrior in The Final Sanction, which we watched about two and a half years ago. Z'Dar is a prolific film actor, starring in around a half-dozen films a year from the late 80s on, so there are plenty of great works to choose from -- but when it comes to schlock classics, we would have been fools not to select Samurai Cop. Admittedly, Z'Dar isn't the top banana here -- that honor goes to Matt Hannon, a man with beautiful, dark, flowing hair, who -- upon learning that Samurai Cop had achieved cult status, and that fans believed he was probably dead -- revealed himself to be very much alive, and starred in a recent sequel alongside infamous goofball / auteur Tommy Wiseau. But if you're into that kind of tongue-in-cheek garbage, you've come to the wrong podcast! (I haven't seen it, maybe it's fun. You've probably come to the right podcast.)Original post located at searchforschlock.com.

On this week's episode, the gang finally gets around to a hotly anticipated title, the absolutely fun and ridiculous, Samurai Cop! The final selection in the now-defunct Patreon Selects tier, this D-Grade cult classic features one of the worst wigs in cinema history, no less than five parking lot fight scenes, and several goons on PCP! PLUS: Patrick Stewart and the TNG cast get dragged to the film's big Hollywood "premiere!"Samurai Cop stars Robert Z'Dar, Mathew Karedas (here as Matt Hannon), Janis Farley, Mark Frazier, Melissa Moore, Gerald Okamura, Dale Cummings, Cranston Komuro, and Joselito Rescober as "Costa Rican Waiter"; directed by Amir Shervan. And hey, gang, be sure to catch us this year at the L.A. Podfest, October 6-8. More information is available at www.lapodfest.com!
Matthew Karedas aka Matt Hannon is the star of the low budget, "so bad it's great" action flick from 1991 called Samurai Cop. The film which was destined for a "straight to video" release was never given a proper release at all, and in fact went completely unseen for decades before eventually finding its way to youtube a few years ago. What's happened since has been nothing short of incredible! Samurai Cop has developed a crazy cult following of fans who appreciate the campy nature and ever-present production mistakes that this crazy buddy cop movie serves up. Matthew's personal story is perhaps even crazier! From his time working as a bodyguard for Sylvester Stallone to his supposed death, you have to hear these amazing stories straight from the source! It's a really fun chat about Matthew's life, the Hollywood B-movie scene in the early 90's, the making of Samurai Cop and what it's like being part of a now cult classic film. www.facebook.com/oddpodcast www.twitter.com/odd_podcast email: theoddpodcast@gmail.com Thanks for listening!
Samurai Cop is an absolute gem of a bad movie. A samurai cop and his side-kick go after the Yakuza, that notorious Japanese organized crime outfit. However, it's set outside of Los Angeles. And there's barely a Japanese person to be found. The samurai cop (Matt Hannon) has a Bon Jovi / Friends / Fabio hairdo that proves to be distracting, not only for aesthetic reasons but also for what we described as "hair continuity issues." We discuss second unit footage and cutaways, both of which are used amply here. The film's villain utters lines like "I want his head on my piano!" And we've also got the incomparable Robert Z'Dar (Maniac Cop)
Hold on to your wigs, folks, because this week THE MILKSHAKE BOOM tackles arguably the grand daddy of all the 'so bad it's good' films, 1991's cult classic 'Samurai Cop' starring Matt Hannon, Mark Frazer, and Robert Z'Dar! We also keep it warm and ready with a discussion of the 'so bad it's good' phenomenon and the concept of irony!
This week on Alcohollywood, Nick Ostrem joins us once more to talk the surprising cult film Samurai Cop, the recently-unearthed 1991 action-comedy starring Robert Z’Dar and Matt Hannon! The film tells the incomprehensible tale of bug-eyed karate cop Joe Samurai (Matt Hannon), his aloof partner (Mark Frazer), and their attempts to break down the evil Japanese Katana gang. Samurai Cop is a whirlwind of laughable acting, stilted dialogue, stunningly bad cinematography and more untouched boobs than you can shake a stick at. Still, we’ve got you covered with our custom cocktail and drinking rules! (If you need more information on just what the hell Samurai Cop is, the Red Letter Media interviews with Matt Hannonhimself provide some desperately required context for the film’s unique madness.) ANNOUNCEMENT: We’ve got a Twitter contest coming up too! Tweet @alcohollywood or email clint@alcohollywood.comwith the subject line ‘HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 CONTEST’ and tell us your favorite ‘boss’ in film history, and you may be chosen to win a prize pack of swag and promotional passes to see Horrible Bosses 2! Entries are restricted to within the United States, and the contest ends Tuesday, December 2nd, so hurry up and send us your picks!
