From sending audition tapes to Metallica and The Rolling Stones to becoming one of wrestling's most iconic figures, Hulk Hogan's journey through entertainment spans nearly five decades of unexpected twists and reinventions. In this deeply personal conversation, the 71-year-old WWE Hall of Famer pulls back the curtain on his early years, revealing how he transitioned from playing bass guitar six nights a week in southeastern clubs to wrestling as "The Super Destroyer" for just $25 a match. Hogan shares surprising stories about living in his van on Pensacola Beach, quitting wrestling multiple times to work as a longshoreman, and how Vince McMahon Sr. gave him the name that would change pop culture forever. The wrestling legend divulges shocking behind-the-scenes details about his breakthrough role as Thunderlips in Rocky III – including how he negotiated his $14,000 payment with Sylvester Stallone and subsequently got fired from the WWF for taking the part. Even more surprising is his revelation about the famous 1984 Madison Square Garden match against the Iron Sheik, where a competing promoter allegedly offered the Sheik $100,000 to legitimately break Hogan's leg.Beyond the nostalgic wrestling tales, Hogan speaks candidly about his spiritual journey, describing how he's found peace through faith after the physical toll of ten back surgeries and countless other injuries from his wrestling career. Now running Hogan's Hangout in Tampa and promoting his Real American Beer, he reflects on the profound impact his character had on generations of fans worldwide.Whether you grew up watching Hulkamania run wild or simply appreciate stories of perseverance and reinvention, this conversation offers a rare glimpse into the man behind the 24-inch pythons. Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
Teddy Long takes off the filter and delivers unfiltered wrestling insights in this candid conversation about the changing landscape of professional wrestling. The WWE Hall of Famer weighs in on recent controversies including Pat McAfee receiving death threats after standing up for the American national anthem at WWE Elimination Chamber in Canada. Teddy discusses how modern sensitivities have altered wrestling storytelling, recalling how financially successful the Sergeant Slaughter and Iron Sheik rivalry was because "it was real" during an actual international conflict. The conversation takes an interesting turn as Teddy shares behind-the-scenes perspectives on WWE's puzzling censorship on Netflix despite the streaming platform's reputation for explicit content. He offers a fascinating glimpse into the significant business differences he discovered when transitioning from WCW to WWE, noting that Vince McMahon personally wrote many of his iconic storylines including the Vickie Guerrero angle and the "White Boy Challenge."Perhaps most moving is Teddy's matter-of-fact recollection of learning about Eddie Guerrero's death while at a TV taping in Minneapolis, demonstrating the wrestling industry's resilient "show must go on" philosophy that McMahon instilled in his performers. Teddy also shares stories from wrestling's pre-cell phone era, refereeing the classic Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat match, and offers his thoughts on current storylines including Rhea Ripley's WrestleMania status and John Cena's heel turn. Whether you're a longtime wrestling fan or new to the industry, this episode delivers rarely-heard perspectives from one of wrestling's most beloved personalities. Kevin Nash and Sean Oliver are back with another wild ride on “Kliq This,” and this week kicks off with Kevin sharing some outrageous stories sparked by a visit from his longtime friend Adam. Though Adam's not actually on the show, his stay at Kevin's house brings up memories of how they once bonded while filming “Magic Mike,” including a near-brawl over coffee and a close-knit camaraderie forged by dancing in their underwear on set. Kevin also reveals how their grand scheme to buy a minor-league baseball team nearly came to fruition and why they never stopped talking about the Savannah Bananas. The wrestling world still looms large as they dig into the phenomenon of the Sheik impression popping up in every locker room. Kevin offers sharp insight on how classic terms like “Jabroni” managed to infiltrate the modern wrestling lexicon, and Sean can't help but crack up whenever they recall Iron Sheik's legendary banter. They also toss around some thoughts on what makes certain wrestling figures outlast their own eras, from Gorilla Monsoon's “gorilla position” to Andre's famous stickers found around the globe. Midway through, the conversation veers into side-splitting territory when Kevin describes a certain “towel joke” that's both cringe-worthy and laugh-out-loud hilarious. It's the kind of humor you expect when he and Sean get going, made even funnier by the lingering influence of Adam's visit and all the freewheeling banter that comes with old friends reuniting. Their chemistry only gets sharper as Kevin drops a few more stories about his latest run-ins and some unfiltered advice you might not want to follow in public. If you're looking for a mix of wrestling nostalgia, Hollywood antics, ridiculous side stories, and genuine friendship, you've come to the right place. Kevin and Sean manage to balance it all while reminding fans why “Kliq This” is unlike any other podcast out there. No matter how crazy the discussion gets, these two always bring it back to the laughs—and this episode is no exception. The Black Lincoln Collective Comedy Podcast: Episode #87 on PopCulturePros (or #172 for the day-one listeners)Title: The Fame You Don't WantWelcome to 2025, where The Black Lincoln Collective Podcast continues its proud tradition of barely preparing and definitely delivering. Same ridiculous humor, same chaotic energy—new year, same us.We're kicking things off with Parker's “angry soup” debacle—a cautionary tale about battling COVID, poor meal choices, and the dangers of eating while irrationally mad. From there, we take a deep (and very dumb) dive into the bizarre world of disease naming—because nothing says "legacy" like having a syndrome named after you. Badge of honor? Total nightmare? The debate rages on.Then, it's time for a moment of true greatness—we welcome a new inductee to the BLC Podcast Hall of Fame. This year's honoree? The one, the only Iron Sheik, a man whose wrestling legacy and unfiltered personality embody everything this podcast stands for. (Mostly yelling and nonsense.)But the surprises don't stop there! We're graced with an appearance from President Elon Musk—or at least a version of him that exists in our heads—as he outlines his definitely real presidential promises. (Spoiler: They're terrifying.)Next up, in "Don't Move Here News," we issue a serious warning about the realities of South Carolina living. Snowstorms? Check. Celebrity blunders? You bet. If you thought you knew the South, think again. And just when you thought it couldn't get weirder, we take an eyebrow-raising detour into a jaw-dropping world record—featuring a Japanese man's unbelievable performance at San Francisco's Masturbate-a-thon. Yep. That happened. To wrap things up, Fred and Allan tackle New Year's resolutions—or rather, their decision to skip them entirely—while introducing their revolutionary new approach to goal-setting: the Winter Arc™. What is it? Does it involve anime? Do they even know? Tune in to find out.So, start 2025 the right way—by wasting an hour with us. Press play on Episode #87, and let's get this year rolling with peak absurdity.
Welcome to 2025 with the Black Lincoln Collective Comedy Podcast. this week, we kick off the new year in classic BLC fashion, delivering the same timeless humor and camaraderie that fans have come to know and love. This week's episode is packed with laugh-out-loud moments, starting with Parker's “angry soup” experience during a bout with Covid. The crew also takes a hilarious deep dive into the bizarre world of naming diseases, questioning whether having a syndrome named after them would be a badge of honor or pure nightmare fuel.We nominate a new member to the BLC Podcast Hall of Fame. Known for his wrestling legacy and unforgettable personality, the Iron Sheik embodies everything the podcast celebrates. But the surprises don't stop there! Fans are treated to a whimsical appearance from none other than President Elon Musk, who hilariously outlines his presidential promises. Then in “Don't Move Here News,” we're issuing warnings about life in South Carolina. From unexpected snowstorms to celebrity blunders, the segment blends laugh-out-loud humor with a bit of local charm. On top of that, the episode takes an eyebrow-raising detour into a peculiar world record moment—a Japanese man's jaw-dropping performance at the San Francisco Masturbate-a-thon.Wrapping things up, Fred and Alan talk New Year's resolutions—or their decision to skip them altogether—while introducing the concept of a “winter arc,” their fresh take on goal-setting, and so much more. #blcpodcast #podcastingforthepeople #funny #podcast #greenvillesc #scpodcast #yeahthatgreenville Listen at: https://blc.world/ Tweet the Show: https://twitter.com/blcworld Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/blcpodcast/ Check us out on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blcpodcast/ Buy Fred and Allan Beer: https://www.patreon.com/blcworld

What does every legendary good guy need in wrestling? A equally legendary bad guy. Who better during the golden age (minus Roddy Piper, we'll get to him soon!) than the man who broke backs, locked in camel clutches and made people humble! Yes, The Iron Sheik is in the spotlight for this episode! We go over his start in life in Iran before he went to the US, coached the US Olympic Wrestling Team and then made it to the AWA before he hit his high in the WWF and won the WWF Championship. Oh and of course, we talk a lot about his interviews in later life and his hatred for one certain blonde hair moustachioed wrestler. This is a heck of an Election Special! All of that, plus the week's news in wrestling.

In 2005, Brad Balukjian left his position as a magazine fact-checker to pursue a dream job: partner with his childhood hero, The Iron Sheik (whose real name was Khosrow Vaziri), to write his biography. Things quickly went south, culminating in the Sheik threatening Balukjian's life. Now seventeen years later, Balukjian returns to the road in search of not only a reunion with the Sheik, but something much bigger: truth in a world built on illusion. Balukjian seeks out six of the Sheik's contemporaries, fellow witnesses to the World Wrestling Federation's (WWF) explosion in the mid-‘80s, to unearth their true identities. As Balukjian drives 12,525 miles around the country, we revisit the heady days when these avatars of strength, villainy, and heroism first found fame and see where their journeys took them. From working out with Tony Atlas (Tony White) to visiting Hulk Hogan's (Terry Bollea) karaoke bar, we see where these men are now and how they have navigated the cliffs of fame. The Six Pack: On the Open Road in Search of Wrestlemania (Hachette, 2024) combines the spirit of a fan with the rigor of an investigative reporter, tracking down former WWF employees, childhood friends, and mutually curious archivists. Wrestling is perceived as a subculture without a cultural home, somewhere between sport and theater—often dismissed as silly and low‑brow. But what makes this book so compelling is the humanity beneath each wrestler. The Iron Sheik, Hulk Hogan, and the rest of the cast were not characters in a comic book movie. They were real people, with families and feelings and bodies that could break. Most of them did, in fact, break; some have been repaired, but none of them will ever be the same. Paul Knepper covered the New York Knicks for Bleacher Report. His first book was The Knicks of the Nineties: Ewing, Oakley, Starks and the Brawlers That Almost Won. His next book, a biography of Moses Malone will be published in 2025. You can reach Paul at paulknepper@gmail.com and follow him on Twitter @paulieknep. Learn more about your ad choices. In this week's Interview Classic episode from ten years ago (7-27-2019), Wade Keller and guest cohost Bruce Mitchell interviewed with Sgt. Slaughter. Sarge has not done many interviews before, and none of this length and scope and depth. It took place in front of a live audience on July 26, 2019 at the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame event at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. In this interview, Slaughter walks through his career from the start, going territory to territory, and character to character, detailing the highlights of his time in each territory and some of the big names he crossed paths with, butted heads with, wrestled again, or shared road trips with including Vince McMahon Sr., Vince McMahon Jr., Pat Patterson, Bob Backlund, Verne Gagne, Wally Karbo, Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan, Iron Sheik, and so many others. It's one of those infrequent “must listen” interviews that the audience and hosts knew as it was happening was something special.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wade-keller-pro-wrestling-podcast--3076978/support.

The Iron Sheik was author Brad Balukjian's favorite wrestler as a kid growing up in the 80s, and directly inspired his new book, “The Six Pack: On The Road in Search of Wrestlemania.” Brad took a road trip to find and meet 6 of the Sheik's wrestling contemporaries including Hulk Hogan, Tony Atlas, Sgt. Slaughter, Jose Luis Rivera, Tito Santana, and Demolition Ax aka Bill Eadie. Brad shares the stories he discovered and learned about each including The Sheik being told to break Hulk Hogan's leg, the original plane ride from hell with Jimmy Snuka, Tony Atlas' initiation into pro wrestling in the South, who sabotaged Jose Luis Rivera's promised push, and the real story behind Sgt. Slaughter's military service! Brad also dug into the early days of the WWF expansion under Vince and Linda McMahon, and found records of early payouts to talent, live show grosses, and original contracts. Plus, Brad talked to then-WWF CFO Bob McMullan and Jim Troy, Vince's right-hand man at the time, about what it was like working for Vince.
