Discothèque Decadence Soundsystem presents: To The Manor Born: Swing House Nu Disco Party DD024 A tribute to the golden age of swing and jazz, from the roaring energy of the 1920s through to the big band brilliance of the 1930s and 1940s, reimagined with a modern nu disco, electro swing and house twist. This mix is also a tip of the top hat to one of the most unique and legendary nights in Durham, UK, reborn through the Discothèque Decadence lens with a Swing House twist. The journey celebrates the spirit of the original jazz age while bringing it firmly onto today's dancefloor, featuring heavyweight names and modern swing revival favourites including Parov Stelar, Caravan Palace, Club des Belugas, Swing Republic, Tape Five, Swingrowers, Ella Fitzgerald, Fred Astaire, Benny Berigan, Louis Prima, Fab Samperi, Klischée and more. Woven throughout the mix are original productions from The Funk Assassin, including Velvet Swing Affair, Minuit à Montmartre, Bourbon Bead Arcade, Manor Born, Velvet After Midnight and Midnight Foxtrot Symphony, created to sit naturally alongside the classic swing, jazz and electro swing sound that inspired the whole journey. Unlike a fast-cut club mix, this has been mixed to let each track play out in its entirety, allowing the arrangements, horns, vocals, rhythms and character of every record to breathe. The result is a continuous swing jazz band feel, like one long late-night performance inside a glowing manor house, where the dancefloor never quite stops moving. Dedicated with love and respect to Miles Davis for his heavenly 100th birthday, one of the true giants of jazz, innovation and musical freedom - and to Sonny Rollins, a true muse for this mix and one of the great spirits of swing, soul and improvisation. Save this one for the afters. The manor doesn't close early. TRACK LIST: 1. The Funk Assassin – Velvet Swing Affair 2. Fred Astaire, Club des Belugas – Puttin' On the Ritz (Club Des Belugas Remix) 3. Discothèque Decadence DD023 Haçienda Manchester Opening – 44th Anniversary 80s & 90s Dance Classics Step back onto one of the most influential dancefloors in music history as Discothèque Decadence celebrates the 44th anniversary of Manchester's legendary Haçienda. This special edition pays tribute to the records, DJs and unforgettable nights that helped define club culture throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. From the euphoric rise of House and Garage to the underground sounds that fuelled a generation, DD023 captures the spirit of a movement that changed dance music forever. Featuring timeless classics and dancefloor anthems from Todd Terry, David Morales, Roger Sanchez, K-Klass, Inner City, A Guy Called Gerald, Derrick May, Larry Heard, Alison Limerick, Joe Smooth and many more, this mix is packed with the records that lit up Manchester's most famous club. For me, this is where the story really begins. The Haçienda sound, the records, the culture and the energy of that era sparked my own love affair with dance music during the mid-to-late 1990s. Long before DJing, collecting records and creating mixes became a huge part of my life, these were the records and stories that inspired everything that followed. Pulled from the archives, this mix has become something of a time capsule. Over the years it has grown into the most listened-to Dance Classics mix I've ever recorded, continuing to attract listeners who share a love for the golden era of House music and the enduring legacy of the Haçienda. Every track has been carefully selected and mixed with love as a celebration of the records, the DJs and the dancefloor that changed everything. TRACKLIST 1. The Source feat. Discothèque Decadence Soundsystem presents DD021: Latin Yacht House Party A sun-drenched voyage through Latin house, yacht grooves, Balearic warmth, and feel-good dancefloor gold. Opening with the smooth luxury of Benny Santiago's “Give Me the Night - Cielo Extended”, the mix glides into The Doobie Brothers' “Long Train Runnin'”, Yacht Rock Revue's “San Junipero”, Daryl Hall & John Oates' “I Can't Go for That” in the Pomo remix, Party Pupils' “Never Too Much”, and Christopher Cross' “Ride Like The Wind - Yacht House Mix” — all bringing that glossy, sunset-on-the-water energy. Then the Latin fire rises. David Penn, DJ Chus & Dr. Kucho!'s “Esperanza” leads into Africanism & Salomão De Bahia's “Cada Vez”, before two personal weapons take centre stage: The Funk Assassin – “Sabor En Tu Piel” and The Funk Assassin – “Di Mi Nombre (Spanglish Pop Soul Edit)”. Both capture the heart of the mix: sensual, rhythmic, warm, and built for that golden-hour moment when the drinks are flowing, the sea is glowing, and the groove takes over. The second half goes full Latin house celebration with Los Amigos Invisibles & Masters At Work, Junior Jack, Basement Jaxx, Negrocan, Ultra Naté, Afro Medusa, Cesária Évora, and Bellini bringing carnival energy, percussion, big hooks, and Balearic heat. Andrew For America talks about American decadence and how our society seems to be declining because of moral decay caused by excessive pleasure-seeking. All the protesting and outrage we see in society today seems very hypocritical given the opportunities and luxuries we enjoy here in America. In this episode, Andrew plays a clip from Mark Matson who claims that research proves that we are not a nation in decline and are actually progressing. Andrew also plays a clip from Alex Tarvana discussing elite control and reads a recent study that claims that 33% of Gen Z ages 18-24 are currently underemployed or unemployed, and as a consequence, there has been an influx of H1B visa applications from companies seeking skilled workers from overseas. Whether you want to be an entrepreneur, or you want to play video games in your mom's basement, America still seems like a pretty good place to live. The song selections are the songs, "Hold Tight" by the band Butterbrain, and "Apple Pie" by the band White Trash.Visit allegedlyrecords.com and check out all of the amazing punk rock artists!Visit soundcloud.com/andrewforamerica1984 to check out Andrew's music!Like and Follow The Politics & Punk Rock Podcast PLAYLIST on Spotify!!!Check it out here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Y4rumioeqvHfaUgRnRxsy...politicsandpunkrockpodcast.comFollow Future Is Now Coalition on Instagram @FutureIsOrgwww.futureis.org

In Part 6 of our series "From Dawn to Decadence," we examine the intellectual trajectory and eventual "decay" of the Aufheben collective. This episode explores the group's early contributions to Marxist theory, their critique of the state, and the internal contradictions that led to their decline. We dive deep into the specific criticisms leveled by the Aufhebung Collective against previous thinkers, including their critiques of Rosa Luxemburg's "objectivism" and the perceived "automaticity" of capitalist collapse. We also discuss how their work interacts with broader Marxist debates on over-accumulation, under-consumption, and the role of the state in managing the "common ruin" of society.Key Topics Discussed:The Roots of Aufheben: How the collective emerged within the landscape of radical Marxist theory.Critique of Luxemburgism: Why Aufheben rejected theories of automatic economic collapse in favor of a more nuanced understanding of class struggle. The Decay of Theory: Analyzing the shifts in the collective's perspective that signaled a move away from their original radical foundations.Theoretical Implications: How these debates on the "highest stage" of capitalism and the "rentier state" remain relevant in today's shifting global landscape.Link: https://files.libcom.org/files/Aufheben-%20Decadence.pdfSend us Fan Mail Musis by Bitterlake, Used with Permission, all rights to BitterlakeSupport the showCrew:Host: C. Record Store Day 2026: French Touch & Nu Disco Session
Description Recorded at the 2026 Great Hearts National Symposium on February 25, 2026, this edited episode features Christopher Perrin's keynote speech exploring the history, meaning, and renewal of classical education, asking a foundational question: what exactly are we trying to recover? Drawing from sources as diverse as Augustine, Herodotus, Tocqueville, and C.S. Lewis, he traces the transmission of the liberal arts from ancient Greece and Rome through Christendom and into early America. Along the way, Perrin reflects on the gradual fragmentation of this tradition in the modern era, illustrated through the story of the Adams family and the rise of progressive education. Perrin challenges educators to embrace the humility at the heart of true learning—that the more we know, the more we recognize our ignorance—and to see themselves as perpetual students. The episode also highlights the remarkable resurgence of classical education today, describing it as a reawakening of seeds long buried but now beginning to flourish. Perrin emphasizes that education is not merely a science or technique, but the transmission of a living tradition aimed at forming wisdom, virtue, and love. Listeners will come away with a renewed sense of purpose, encouraged to tend the “fire” of learning and to participate faithfully in handing down a rich inheritance to the next generation.Special thanks to the Great Hearts Institute. Episode OutlineWhy the question “What is classical education?” is harder than it sounds (and why it matters for renewal)The paradox of learning: the more you know, the more you know you don't know “Begin with the end”: death, wisdom, and the purpose of education Tradition as “handing down”: language, culture, and education as inheritance Athens and Rome: Greek paideia, Roman educatio, and the liberal arts as a transmitted curriculumThe Church and Christendom: incorporating Greco-Roman learning, theology as “queen,” and widening accessEngland to early America: grammar schools, Boston Latin, Harvard, and the rise of popular literacy The Adams family as an educational case study: formation, thinning, and the modern fracture Progressive education: what changed, what was gained, and why education can't be reduced to a quantitative scienceThe modern renewal: early schools (1979–1981), today's ecosystem, and the need for teacher formation at scaleFinal exhortation: preserve humility, avoid pride, resist false dichotomies, and tend the “fire” of wonder in schoolsKey Topics & TakeawaysClassical education is a tradition before it is a “renewal.” A renewal only makes sense if we can name what is being renewed.Teachers must be perpetual students. The classical teacher models humility—seeking wisdom while resisting the pretense of having arrived.Education is measured by ultimate aims. Human life is fleeting; education gains its meaning from what it prepares us for—virtue, wisdom, piety, and a life rightly ordered.Tradition is unavoidable. Even rejecting tradition requires using language and capacities that were first handed down as a tradition. The liberal arts are an inheritance with a genealogy. From Greek and Roman culture through Christian adaptation, the arts endure because they correspond to human nature.Modern fragmentation reshaped education's purpose. When technology and “force” become central categories, education shifts from transmitting culture to preparing for flux.Progressive vs. classical is not a simple binary. Many educational “heresies” are partial truths held out of balance (false dichotomies distort practice). The renewal must be sustained by love, not mere critique. A movement fueled only by opposition cannot endure—formation requires positive vision and shared goods.Classical education belongs to humanity. It is deeply shaped by Christianity, but not owned exclusively by Christians; it welcomes seekers and strangers.Questions & DiscussionWhy do you think “classical education” is so difficult to define clearly?Name what you most often hear from parents or colleagues when they ask what “classical” means. Try writing a two-sentence definition that includes both aim (why) and means (how), then compare with others. How does the “perpetual student” posture change the way you teach?Where are you tempted to project certainty or expertise instead of wonder and humility? Identify one practice that would help your faculty model learning (shared reading, teacher seminar, public “I don't know yet”).What is education for when you “begin with the end” (mortality in view)? How does remembering death sharpen what matters in curriculum and school culture? If you had to prioritize one outcome—wisdom, virtue, piety, civic responsibility—what would you choose and why? What can we learn from the Adams family arc—formation to fracture? In your own experience, where do you see education becoming “garments that no longer fit”? In part VI the boys discuss theories of "decadence" as viewed by the Aufheben collective. We focus on their early contributions to Marxist theory, critique of the state, and their eventual decline. Note: Within days of recording this, the Iran war broke out, but this was recorded a few days before that started. Key Topics Discussed: The Roots of Aufheben: How the collective emerged within the landscape of radical Marxist theory. Critique of Luxemburgism: Why Aufheben rejected theories of automatic economic collapse in favor of a more nuanced understanding of class struggle. The Decay of Theory: Analyzing the shifts in the collective's perspective that signaled a move away from their original radical foundations. Theoretical Implications: How these debates on the "highest stage" of capitalism and the "rentier state" remain relevant in today's shifting global landscape. https://www.patreon.com/c/varnvlog/posts

With a shooting at Mar-a-Lago and some real counterterrorism issues associated with Trump's threat of war on Iran, Kash Patel probably had more important matters to attend to than shotgunning beer with the U.S. hockey team. And the team itself might have remembered that Patel himself is standing in the way of investigating the murders of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. But too many people at the top don't give a crap, and others are taking their cue. And that includes the larger media, which has moved on from Minnesota, even though women are having to resort to giving birth at home out of fear that federal agents will snatch family members in the labor & delivery ward. Meanwhile Trump is aggressively promoting regime change in Iran, and Sam Altman sounds like he thinks Neo was the bad guy in "The Matrix." Plus, does Netanyahu's role in helping get Trump back into power—and perhaps pushing him to war— open up a political opportunity for Dems to put pressure on Israel?JVL joins Tim Miller.show notes Tim plays the guest on Bill's "Bulwark on Sunday" Sonny and Tim assess the aesthetics of Trump's performance at his press conference JVL's "Triad" about what he saw in Minnesota The Wright Thompson Bulwark pod interview that Tim referenced The Atlantic on the other aid programs being cut Tickets are now on sale for our LIVE shows in Dallas on March 18 and in Austin on March 19. I'm looking forward to diving into the crumbling and the haunted this week with Leon Craig. We're discussing Leon Craig's THE DECADENCE. And you the listener picked Leon as one of the rising stars of literature that you wanted me to interview. Have you ever walked past an old abandoned house and wondered what kinds of lives were lived there? Have you ever dared to explore one? Perhaps you wanted to escape and hide in the house. Or perhaps you wanted to use it for something a little more nefarious. Leon Craig, whose previous collection of short stories, PARALLEL HELLS, was also published by Sceptre, is a graduate of the Birkbeck MFA Creative Writing course. Her work has been published by Hazlitt, the Sunday Times, the London Magazine and others and is forthcoming in Nulla magazine and Berlin Babel anthology. Start with the symptom: everything still moves, yet less gets done. We unpack decadence as a live condition—where empires posture with airstrikes instead of strategy, markets float on bubbly valuations, and everyday obligations dissolve into choice and churn. Rather than predicting apocalypse, we track how capabilities thin out while systems grow heavier, and we ask what it would take to reverse that pattern. Our conversation maps the terrain across geopolitics and political economy. We examine military hollowing, Trump-era incentives, and the shift from global projection to regional coercion that masquerades as multipolar “freedom.” We dig into Brexit's exposure of Britain's productive weakness, the EU's turn to securitization, and why faltering Belt and Road ambitions recalibrate power rather than replace it. On the economic front, we separate real profit rates from rent-inflated revenues, explain how administrative bloat and litigation fuel cost disease in sectors like education, and show why fictitious capital turns asset inflation into the only viable growth model. Elite overproduction and de-skilling aren't just memes; they're structural forces that capture institutions while eroding competence.Culture mirrors these dynamics. Tools like standpoint epistemology and intersectionality began sharp and specific, then inflated under attention incentives until they explained everything and clarified nothing. The attention economy rewards maximalism; conspiracy offers coherence on the cheap. Meanwhile, social reproduction falters: loneliness rises, trust collapses, and the language of total choice encroaches on domains that need durable obligation. You don't have to be religious to see the cost—families, chosen and given, remain our basic infrastructure of care, and population decline reflects deeper social illness, not just private preference. We don't offer a rewind button. Renewal means rebuilding capacity: sectoral strategies that let unions scale across fragmented workplaces; simplification that cuts compliance labyrinths; investment that privileges real production over valuations; and a civic culture that re-centers duty and measurable outcomes. Decadence is a diagnosis, not a fate. In this episode of Uncommon Sense, I'm calling out a problem no one wants to confront: the normalization of partying, drinking, and casual sex especially among so-called “conservative influencers.”You cannot claim to defend Western Civilization while publicly celebrating the very behaviors that destroyed past civilizations. Conservatism without morality is just aesthetic rebellion. We don't need more clout, cocktails, or compromised values. We need a return to godliness, self-discipline, and moral responsibility because the future generations watching us will inherit whatever standard we tolerate today. If we want to save the West, we have to get serious about being truly Christian again.--https://www.bible.com/
Champagne cold. Lights low. Midnight approaching. This is my New Year's Nu-Disco House Party Mix — built for the moment when the room is full and nobody's ready to go home. We kick things off in serious style with Sister Sledge – He's The Greatest Dancer (Dimitri From Paris Remix) — disco royalty, reborn for the countdown. From there, it's wall-to-wall class with heavyweight reworks from Dave Lee, Michael Gray, and Jamiroquai – Little L (Dave Lee Reblend), setting that glossy, late-night groove where everything starts to feel just right. As the clock ticks closer to midnight, the energy lifts with certified party weapons: Joey Montenegro – Make A Move On Me (Original Disco Edit), Anané – Let Me Be Your Fantasy (Blackchild Remix), and Dr Packer's irresistible nu-disco flip of Push The Feeling On — pure hands-in-the-air moment. Expect big smiles, locked-in dancefloors, and that warm, euphoric buzz as Cassius, JKriv, and Blank & Jones carry things deep into the night. Disco roots, modern polish, and a groove that doesn't rush — it celebrates. No filler. No filler vibes. Just big remixes, big names, and the perfect soundtrack to welcoming a new year. Press play. Raise a glass. Let's dance into it.
Nov 5, 2025 In this episode, public school history teacher Gianni Paul joins Breht to trace the historical roots of our current crisis — stagnant wages, mass homelessness, collapsing infrastructure, rising fascism, Gilded Age inequality, and a beaten down working class — back to Reagan's counter-revolution against the New Deal and the forty-year neoliberal project that followed. Together, they explore how neoliberalism emerged out of the crises of the 1970s, Carter's role in laying the groundwork before Reagan, the destruction of unions and working-class power, the ideological weaponization of anti-communism, the bipartisan consolidation of neoliberalism under Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden, the ways Reagan and Trump represent two phases of the same class project, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rise of capitalist triumphalism, the slow disintegration of America's middle class into debt and precarity, the explosion of homelessness and hopelessness, the erosion of U.S. imperial dominance alongside the emergence of a multipolar world, and why the U.S. repeatedly chooses reaction over social transformation — raising the question of whether genuine change can still emerge from within the imperial core or whether new possibilities are taking shape elsewhere. Understanding this history is key to understanding why everyday life in America feels increasingly unstable, and what futures remain possible beyond neoliberal decay. This episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson takes a hard look at the growing contradictions surrounding Erika Kirk and the direction of TPUSA's AmFest (or should I say IsFest). From Charlie Kirk's own recorded warnings about bad cultural role models to TPUSA turning around and platforming those very same celebrities (Nicki Minaj included) whose lifestyles openly contradict Christian teaching, the hypocrisy is no longer ignorable. We're breaking down how moral inconsistency, pop-culture appeasement, and ideological confusion are rotting the conservative movement from the inside out. America First cannot exist without Christianity first—not as a buzzword, not as branding, but as the moral and cultural foundation of who we are. And right now, we are watching our spiritual and national identity slip away in real time. When so-called Christian leaders blur lines, excuse the very behavior they once condemned, and choose influence over truth, they don't just lose credibility, they lose the plot (and they lose the people who trusted them). This episode is a call for honesty, consistency, and real conservative leadership rooted in the Christian values they claim to stand for. Not clout, not platforms, and not sinful worldliness. We don't need people playing leaders. We need actual leadership.—https://www.bible.com/
A Festive season mix for warm nights, soft lights, and anyone who believes the dancefloor can feel like a heartbeat… This set was crafted with pure affection—for groove, for connection, for that slow-burn heat that rises when the right records meet the right moment. It opens with the velvet glow of Jessie Ware's “Freak Me Now,” Babert's flirtatious “I Wanna Dance Tonight,” and the soulful lift of “Back Together Again.” From there, every track becomes a touch, a look, a breath. ✨ Step inside a disco winter wonderland wrapped in velvet. DISCOTHÈQUE DECADENCE PRESENTS: CHIC NU DISCO CLUB MIX (DD014)** “Where CHIC's mastery meets Studio 54 glamour — with sass tucked neatly in its back pocket.” We open by celebrating the architects of the groove: Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, and CHIC — the heartbeat of disco, the masters of elegance, and the blueprint behind almost every iconic dancefloor moment that still matters today. From that spark, the night slips instantly into Studio 54 glitz — mirrorballs humming, lights glowing, sequins catching every beat. A flipped-classics celebration built from extended edits, velvet grooves, and that unmistakable New York swagger. Dimitri From Paris sets the tone with gleaming remasters of “Le Freak” and “I Want Your Love”, the perfect velvet curtain-raiser for a winter party in full shimmer. Ivan Jack & Master Mike glide in with “Rapper's Good Times,” stitching disco royalty to early hip-hop cool, before Ken@Work reshapes “Good Times” into a sleek, strut-ready roller glowing with December warmth. The glamour peaks as Sister Sledge's “Lost In Music” dissolves into Soulwax's electric rework of Sylvester's “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” — pure Studio 54 attitude: chic, confident, unstoppable. Dimitri lights the room again with his super-disco blend of “Street Player,” followed by HP Vince & Discotron turning up the heat with a revitalised “Disco Inferno” built for late-night sparkle. And to close the festivities… Anita Ward's “Ring My Bell” floats in like the final dance at a winter party wrapped in velvet, glitter, laughter, and golden light. This is CHIC. This is Studio 54. This is the season — bright, warm, glamorous. This is Discothèque Decadence: Chic Nu Disco Club Mix. ✨ Save it. ✨ Share it. ✨ Ring that bell.
On this week's Book Club podcast I'm joined by debut author Leon Craig to talk about her novel The Decadence – a story of millennial debauchery in a haunted house which uses a knowing patchwork of literary influences from Boccaccio and Shirley Jackson to Martin Amis and Mark Z. She discusses how and why it took her so long to write, how she first acquired a taste for the gothic, and why she thinks the horror novel, that seeming relic of the 1970s, is making such a dramatic comeback. In this episode, public school history teacher Gianni Paul joins Breht to trace the historical roots of our current crisis — stagnant wages, mass homelessness, collapsing infrastructure, rising fascism, Gilded Age inequality, and a beaten down working class — back to Reagan's counter-revolution against the New Deal and the forty-year neoliberal project that followed. It's no secret that men are fascinated with the Roman Empire. Tales of battle, glory, and reign ignite our passion and enthusiasm for exerting our will against our enemies and for the benefit of those we lead. But these tales aren't just an entertaining insight into the way men's minds work – they're also cautionary regarding how every once-great civilization has fallen. Today, I'm joined by Jeremy Ryan Slate to discuss what makes men so attracted to the Roman Empire, in what ways the United States in following in its ill-fated footsteps (and, in which ways it isn't), lessons we can learn from monetary policy, political aspirations, wars and conquests, and how we can avoid the fate (or, at least prolong) every great civilization has eventually faced. Robert P. George is not a passive observer of the proverbial culture wars; he's been a very active participant. As a Catholic legal scholar and philosopher at Princeton University, he was an influential opponent of Roe v. Wade and same-sex marriage, receiving a Presidential medal from President George W. Bush. George decries the “decadence” of secular culture, and, in 2016, he co-wrote an op-ed declaring Donald Trump “manifestly unfit” to serve as President. Although George disagrees with the Administration's tactics to change universities' policies by punishment, he agrees with its contention that campuses have become hotbeds of leftism that stifle debate. He regards this not as a particular evil of the left but as “human nature”: “If conservatives had the kind of monopoly that liberals had,” George tells David Remnick, “I suspect we'd have the same situation, but just in reverse.” His recent book, “Seeking Truth and Speaking Truth: Law and Morality in Our Cultural Moment,” tries to chart a course back toward civil, functioning debate in a polarized society. “I encourage my students to take courses from people who disagree with me, like Cornel West and Peter Singer,” the latter of whom is a controversial philosopher of ethics. “Cornel and I teach together for this same reason. Peter invites his students to take my courses. That's the way it should be.”
In the late seventies, Studio 54 was the place to be for musicians and celebrities alike. John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and others all famously hung out at the notorious club where hedonism was part of the venue's allure. The success of Studio 54 was sudden and massive, resulting in mountains of cash, cocaine, jealousy, revenge, an FBI raid, and an ironic ending for one of its owners.
