pWotD Episode 2674: Oasis (band) Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 515,435 views on Tuesday, 27 August 2024 our article of the day is Oasis (band).Oasis are an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. The group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums), with Liam asking his older brother Noel Gallagher (lead guitar, vocals) to join as a fifth member a few months later to finalise their formation. Noel became the de facto leader of the group and took over the songwriting duties for the band's first four albums. They are characterised as one of the defining and most globally successful groups of the Britpop genre. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994), which topped the UK Albums Chart and quickly became the fastest-selling debut album in British history at the time. The following year they released (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with new drummer Alan White, in the midst of a highly publicised chart rivalry with peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the British charts, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time, the fifth-best-selling album in the UK and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers throughout the 1990s for their public disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each time, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their highly anticipated third studio album, Be Here Now, which became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.Founder members Arthurs and McGuigan left in 1999 during the recording of the band's fourth studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer on guitar and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell on bass. White departed in 2004, replaced by guest drummer Zak Starkey, and later by Chris Sharrock. Oasis released three more studio albums in the 2000s: Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded in 2009 after the sudden departure of Noel Gallagher. The remaining members of the band continued under the name Beady Eye until their disbandment in 2014. Both Gallagher brothers have continued on to have successful solo careers. On 27 August 2024, Oasis announced that they would reform for performances in the UK and Ireland in the summer of 2025 during their Live '25 Tour.As of 2024, Oasis have sold over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They are among the most successful acts in the history of the UK Singles Chart and the UK Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three Platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were also nominated for two Grammy Awards. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:56 UTC on Wednesday, 28 August 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Oasis (band) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Amy.

John joins Kasabian producer, songwriter, and frontman Serge Pizzorno to discuss the band's latest record, ‘Happenings'. Kasabian, an English rock band formed in the late 1990s, burst onto the scene in the early 2000s with iconic anthems like ‘LSF' and ‘Club Foot'. Since then, they have released eight albums, earning multiple NME Awards and a Brit Award for Best British Group in 2010. Sitting down with guitarist and co-founder Serge Pizzorno, the conversation dives into his production journey—from experimenting with a loop pedal at eleven years old to collaborating with renowned producer Mark Ralph. Serge shares insights into his hours-long loop jams, reveals how he transformed an Asda voice note into a fully-fledged track, and discusses the secrets behind crafting iconic riffs. Tracks discussed: Call, Coming Back To Me Good, G.O.A.T. TAPE IT Thanks to our friends at Tape It for supporting the podcast. EX60 - The 1975 - I'm In Love With You and It's Not Living If It's Not With You The 1975 are an English pop rock band formed in 2002 in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The band consists of lead vocalist, principal songwriter and guitarist Matty Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer and primary producer George Daniel. The name of the band was inspired by a page of scribblings found in Healy's copy of On the Road by Jack Kerouac that was dated "1 June, The 1975". The band members met in secondary school, and first performed together as teenagers in 2002, before professionally releasing music in 2012 under independent label Dirty Hit Rolling Stone stated that the band has been at "the forefront of modern pop rock" since their debut. Pitchfork has described them as a "band of friends" who "ascended from scrappy emo rockers to global superstars". Entertainment Weekly has characterized them as "British Phenoms," with Billboard declaring them "the most ambitious pop-rock band of their generation". They have received several awards and nominations including four Brit Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards, as well as two nominations for the Mercury Prize and Grammy Awards. In addition, they have been awarded "Band of the Decade" at the 2020 NME Awards. This week Dan chats with Thai singer-producer Pyra. Self-describing her music as “dystopian-pop,” Pyra blends hip-hop, alternative pop and Thai traditional instrumentation as the backbone for lyrics exploring socio-political issues. Coupling her sound with an experimental visual and performance style, she has quickly become a festival favourite. She has made appearances at Burning Man, The Great Escape, Garden Beats and Forest Jam, just to name a few. Listen in to hear Pyra explaining the Thai pop industry compared to the rest of the world, the fashion influence on her music and the rise of censorship laws in the East attempting to block her artistic activism. Congratulations go out to Pyra, who recently won 'Best Solo Act From Asia' & 'Best Song By An Asian Artist' at the NME Awards 2022 as the winner in the all-new Asia categories. She'll be performing at Coachella in no time. One to watch. Apple Podcasts: https://t.ly/212Podcast Spotify: https://t.ly/212PodcastSpotify www.212musicgroup.com/the212podcast --

Been a while since I uploaded an episode of this podcast – Christmas and New Year kind of got in the way. And so in an attempt to make up for the longer than usual radio silence, I've cobbled together a special episode of The James McMahon Music Podcast, made up of a bunch of interviews I did at the NME Awards in 2010, that I'd forgotten I had until now. I think as a historical document, it makes for interesting listening, and there's previously unheard interviews with Biffy Clyro, Mumford & Sons, Jamie T, Slash, Muse, Kaya Scodelario from Skins, Lily Allen, James Buckley from The Inbetweeners and Russell Tovey from Being Human. Put a suit on and it's like you're there... only without the inevitable hangover. The James McMahon Music Podcast is a Spoook Media production. Spoook is also a record label, a promoter, a shop, a Substack - it's many things. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter. And please do Like, Review and Subscribe - it actually really helps people find our podcasts!

Here's a voice you might recognise... from Rochdale, a comedy foil to Radcliffe and Maconie and bridging the music gap between classical and the avant garde. It's Elizabeth Alker off the radio. Affectionately known as Alkerpops by most. (Or Alker-traz and Alker-seltzer by Guy Garvey).I met Elizabeth a few years ago and had a friend's view of what it takes to do a career in the music industry. She's reported from Glastonbury, The NME Awards, The Proms and The Brits. She's brave, curious and possesses a wealth of music knowledge. Keep being courageous,Love Rachael xWHO'S BEHIND THIS PODCAST?I'd ridden pretty high on the creative career rollercoaster. At times it was exhilarating (and occasionally it was terrifying.) It takes stamina, guts and more than a smattering of resilience. Don't panic, this isn't another podcast telling you to hustle harder. I've been there and got the burnout badge to prove it.I'm looking to find people who are doing the work they love, but it's been a bumpy ride.Starting over can be wonderful, agony and pants shakingly scary all at the same time. There are others who did it. Who are right in the centre of figuring that out. I'm trying to find the people, I needed to hear, at the time I felt I was free-falling from the loop-di-loop.BUILD A KICKARSE CREATIVE BUSINESSI'm able to make this podcast because I get a small income from some kickarse affiliate products. Briefly interrupting this week’s news agenda is X-Factor alumni JLS, who have announced that they will be reuniting for an autumn tour. Ari Lennox’s impulsive social media habits are put under the microscope, following the news that she’s taking a leave from social media after coming for Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King. The boys outline her good intentions while pointing out the misfires in her viral IG rant in defence of Kobe Bryant. The theme of artists making poor decisions continues as slowthai’s sexually inappropriate behaviour at the NME Awards is discussed. Closing the episode is an in-depth discussion with Moses who’s been credited as a leading pioneer in the UK Jazz renaissance. Moses speaks about his new album ‘Dark Matter’, the snobbery and elitism that exists in the jazz scene among musicians, the impact of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’, the pivotal roles drummers play in jazz music and more. Adam talks with British actor, writer, character comedian and improvisor Cariad Lloyd (Austentatious, Murder In Successville, Drunk History etc.) about birth, middle age, funny accents, growing up in a ‘cult' and why talking about death on a podcast is more fun than it sounds.CARIAD NOTESHello, Adam Buxton here. My conversation with Cariad was recorded in February 2017. Why the delay putting it out Buckles? Well, long term podcats will know that some of the conversations I record take a long time to emerge because of the slightly ad hoc way me, Séamus and my occasional edit helpers go about getting each episode ready and figuring out where they should sit in the running order. We're trying to get more organised but from time to time guests do experience significant delays. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. When we recorded our conversation Cariad and I were both at pivotal moments in our lives. Cariad had just had a baby but her happiness at the new arrival was mixed with sadness that her father, who died suddenly when she was just 15, was not around to see his grandchild. We spoke about that and had a fun chat about mortality in general. As for me, I had just attended the NME Awards which made me feel very old for various reasons. Regular listeners will have heard me moaning about this before and Cariad was not spared…Thanks to Séamus Murphy-Mitchell for production support and Jack Bushell for additional editing.Music & jingles by Adam BuxtonRELATED LINKSGRIEFCASThttps://www.acast.com/griefcastAUSTENTATIOUS http://www.austentatiousimpro.com/THE AMERICANShttps://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/may/30/secrets-lies-new-cold-war-how-the-americans-became-topicalMORE INFORMATION ABOUT est http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2016/04/06/the_true_story_of_est_the_pop_psychology_group_that_seduces_philip_in_this.htmlSMERSHPOD - TAFFIN SPECIALhttps://www.acast.com/smershpod/smershsidespecial-taffinRHLSTP - BRIAN BLESSEDhttps://www.comedy.co.uk/podcasts/richard_herring_lst_podcast/rhlstp_175_brian_blessed/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In the latest episode of Beyond the Margin, host Michael Shields conducts an interview with Gabe Moskoff, better known to fans and the hip-hop community as Trackstar the DJ. Trackstar is best known for his prolific mixtape work and as the touring DJ (and unofficial third member) for Run the Jewels (RTJ), the rap supergroup composed of El-P and Killer Mike. Trackstar has performed at hundreds of venues and dozens of festivals all over the world, including Madison Square Garden, Coachella, and Glastonbury Festival. Along with longtime collaborators Run the Jewels (which has never performed with another DJ), DJ Trackstar has also appeared on Late Night with David Letterman (twice), Conan O’Brien, the NME Awards, the BBC, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Trackstar has released over one hundred and fifty mixtapes, including collaborations with Royce da 5’9, Big Boi, Killer Mike, El-P, Lupe Fiasco, Hot97’s Peter Rosenberg, Pete Rock and Camp Lo, amongst others, and he is the man behind the popular RAP FAN clothing line. In this podcast Michael and Trackstar converse about their shared love for hip-hop and traverse through Trackstar’s notable career, eventually coming upon the remarkable story of how he first came to know Killer Mike, forging a relationship which ultimately led to his becoming the touring DJ for Killer Mike and then Run the Jewels. Disclosing what it is like to be the “non-famous guy” amid the RTJ phenomenon, and expounding on what an unbelievable experience it has been to be taken on such a remarkable ride, Trackstar offers up a unique perspective of a true hip-hop and rap fan who is authentically living every hip-hop junkie’s dream.Subscribe to Across the Margin: The PodcastCheck out Across the Margin for further amazing stories & much, much more! If you're a fan of awkward radio based around creepy listeners and desperately lonely presenters, then you're in the right place! Although for legal reasons, we can't possibly single out which listener or which presenter (although from listening to this very podcast, we're sure you could have a good old guess). Elsewhere this week… • Chris and the team question whether Hollywood A-lister DENZEL WASHINGTON is loving or hating his chat with Dom. • KEANU REEVES has a very important announcement to make to an entire hotel room. • PLUS, after last year, we're treated to round 2 of Pippa's NME Awards diary! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Weekdays 6.30-10am radiox.co.uk
Steve Austin, vocalist and guitarist for Today is the Day, recently formed a new band called UXO with his longtime friend Chris Spencer of Unsane. We invited Steve to chat with us and wound up having one of the longest, most interesting discussions we've had in a long time. We talk about how the UXO project came together, where his drive to create introspective, destructive music comes from, how his relationship with his family molded the person he is today and how his children changed his outlook on life and music. We also try and figure out whether or not Bring Me the Horizon's Oli Sykes really has beef with Chris Martin and Coldplay or if he's just trying to get more people to pay attention to him. He claims he did not know that his stunt at the NME Awards was directed at the band, but we're not necessarily buying it. Also, just to warn you, there will be graphic depictions of a surgical procedure one of us had in this episode... let's just say the results were unexpected. Songs:UXO - "Trauma"Toothgrinder - "The House (That Fear Built)"
If you ever wanted to know just how drunk people get at swanky award ceremonies (namely, The NME Awards), then you're in the right place, As Chris and team track Pippa's 'eventful' midweek partying! Elsewhere within this week's Chris Moyles Show podcast... We say hello to 'Welsh Florence'... who sounds suspiciously like many other Dominic Byrne impressions. The team undertake a serious conversation about their favourite weather forecasters... No, seriously. PLUS, just how did Radio X's Vernon Kay 'woo' his lovely wife in the first place? Enjoy! With Will Gompertz. Marc Almond and John Harle discuss their new collaboration, The Tyburn Tree, a collection of songs about Gothic London, whose subjects include the Highgate Vampire, Jack The Ripper and the Elizabethan mystic John Dee. 50 years ago the Liverpool Everyman theatre opened its doors to the public for the first time. 40 years ago, Willy Russell provided the theatre with his first big hit play and their first London transfer - John, Paul, George, Ringo... and Bert. As the Everyman re-opens after an extensive three-year building project, Willy Russell discusses the theatre's past. Gemma Bodinetz, Artistic Director of the Everyman and Playhouse theatres, and theatre writer Lyn Gardner discuss what the role of the theatre building should be in the 21st century. Gary Shteyngart, the Russian-born American author, whose books include The Russian Debutante's Handbook and Super Sad True Love Story, has recently released his memoir, Little Failure. Named after the nickname bestowed upon him by his mother, the book documents Gary's childhood in the Soviet Union, his move to America at the age of seven, and his life thereafter as a Russian Jewish immigrant and wannabe writer. Glastonbury was named Best Festival at last night's NME Awards and this morning Dolly Parton announced that she has been booked for this year. Emily Eavis explains how they choose their megastar line-ups and what she intends to do with the festival as she takes a more prominent role in its planning. Producer: Ellie Bury.
