Micah 5:2, John 3:16-18, & Luke 2:1-7 Today we learn what a prophet is when we introduce Micah. We discuss how Micah specifically told where Jesus would be born and we follow the journey God put Mary and Joseph on to get them from Nazareth to Bethlehem. God used different people, events, etc but it allllllll happened just as He said it would. This story also drives home John 3:16-18; that God sent his son Jesus, not to condemn the World, but to save us through Jesus. What a precious gift this is! To engage more with this episode, you can grab a map and show your kids Nazareth and Bethlehem so they see where Mary and Jospeh traveled or join our Patreon page to get the activity and coloring page. You can also listen to the song "Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem." As we think about the birth of Christ today, we'll be reminded that we shouldn't really care about what day Jesus was born on. We should just care that He was born. We shouldn't celebrate a day. We should celebrate the Person of Jesus. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

God delights in using little and seemingly insignificant things. We can see that in His choice of Bethlehem as the birthplace of His Son. Even the prophet Micah said, “Oh thou Bethlehem Ephrata, little are you.” So, Pastor Ford asks us today, “Are we little enough, to become big enough for God to delight in using us?”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As we study the prophecies about the Messiah, Pastor Ford will remind us that the prophet Micah foretold Christ's birth. And Micah didn't want us to miss his message: “Listen! The most significant person Who ever lived and Who ever will live, will be born in the most insignificant place—Bethlehem.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

For the first time since Baz Luhrmann's Elvis dropped, Ryan returns to TCBCast for an extensive discussion on Elvis's final two appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show on October 28, 1956 and January 6, 1957, with the latter being the infamous "filmed from the waist up" program. Are these performances truly as legendary as the myth around them? We'll find out together! Then, Ryan finally get to put forward his list of favorite Elvis songs by year in lieu of Song of the Week while Justin closes out the episode and 2022 by spotlighting the history behind the understated hymn, "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem," from Elvis's best selling 1957 Christmas album. It wouldn't be a TCBCast Christmas without starting out scratching the surface of the life story of its lyricist, Phillips Brooks, and his choice to imitate an archaic style of writing and ending up spiraling into an unexpectedly heartfelt exploration of the history of the Puritans and the Church of England, early America, the literary impact of the King James Version of the Bible, Abraham Lincoln's funeral, and the perpetual conflict between sincerity and crass commercialization. Happy holidays to all our listeners near and far! Thank you for a wonderful 2022 - see you next year!

Today we have a special show for you. Christmas is in a few days, and we thought what a great way to celebrate by bringing someone on who specializes in Israel and leads trips or pilgrimages through the Holy Land and talk about the little town of Bethlehem. I invited my friend Brain Haynes on the show today to help me unpack some of the really neat aspects of Bethlehem and the importance of why God chose this location for the Prince of Peace, God's One and Only Son, to be born here. Brian Haynes serves as lead pastor of Bay Area Church and Christian School in League City, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University, Southwestern Seminary, and Liberty Theological Seminary, where he earned a D.Min for his work in discipleship and family ministry. Pastor Brian is an author and influencer having written Relentless Parenting: The Crucial Pursuit of Your Teen's Heart (co-authored by his wife Angela), Shift: What it Takes to Finally Reach Families Today, and The Legacy Path: Discover Intentional Spiritual Parenting. He is a contributing author for Recalibrate: A New Measure for Family Ministry and Family Ministry and the Church. His newest book, War in the Wilderness: Fight for Your Family When Life Isn't as it Should Be, is set to release in the spring of 2023.
