Quan Millz is a maestro of urban fiction. Since 2017, he has self-published over 70 books and (apparently) made more than $500,000 from titles such as Old THOT Next Door, Pastors Eat Pwussy Too, Pregnant by My Gay Stepdaddy, and, the subject of today's episode, This Hoe Got Roaches in Her Crib. This is a chilling true story of a quiet family haunting that starts with a game…and ends with unanswered questions. After the birth of baby Chris, a new entity began appearing in the living room of a multi-generational house — first noticed by the grandmother and then confirmed by the mother. What looks like a harmless shadow at the doorway quickly becomes bone-deep unsettling when the figure repeatedly pokes its head around the wall and plays “peek-a-boo” with the infant, making the baby laugh while the adults stare in stunned disbelief. Weeks later, a second apparition appears: a small, white, illuminated woman in a flowing nightgown. She is seen stepping across linoleum, hovering above the crib, and vanishing at the window during a midnight snack run at the aunt's house in Virginia. Was she Jeff's great-grandmother? Or is she Great-Aunt Ruthie — a relative with unfinished business? Family members whisper theories while the encounters multiply: shadowy peeks, a glowing figure seen in two separate states, and a child who seems blissfully unaware of the danger. #TrueStory #HauntedHouse #RealHaunting #Paranormal #GhostStory #Ghosts #FamilyHaunting #SpiritAttachment #InfantGhostEncounter #WhiteLady #PeekABooGhost #ModernHaunting #ParanormalEncounters Love real ghost stories? From those early days of COVID chaos, stockpiling toilet paper and wondering if newborns needed masks, to getting him ready to march into kindergarten with a backpack almost bigger than he is, the past few years have been a blur. In this episode, we reflect on the bittersweet leap from babyhood to big kid, the pride and panic that come with letting go, and the little rituals (like labeling a water bottle… over and over) that help us cope. Related to naps, the concept of “crib hour” is this: if baby wakes up at any point under an hour from when they were put down, you leave them be until a full hour has passed since they initially went to sleep. This is a popular option among some for lengthening a baby's short naps… But, here's why I don't subscribe to crib hour.PS. Sean Carroll's Mindscape: Science, Society, Philosophy, Culture, Arts, and Ideas
We often study cognition in other species, in part to learn about modes of thinking that are different from our own. Today's guest, psychologist/philosopher Alison Gopnik, argues that we needn't look that far: human children aren't simply undeveloped adults, they have a way of thinking that is importantly distinct from that of grownups. Children are explorers with ever-expanding neural connections; adults are exploiters who (they think) know how the world works. These studies have important implications for the training and use of artificial intelligence.Blog post with transcript: https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2025/03/17/308-alison-gopnik-on-children-ai-and-modes-of-thinking/Support Mindscape on Patreon.Alison Gopnik received her D.Phil in experimental psychology from Oxford University.
