In seasons of uncertainty, it's crucial to know how to overcome when faith stagnates and momentum lags. What do you do when God calls you to move, but fear, failure, or shame hold you back? In this powerful message, Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts teaches from Genesis 12, showing that faith is about movement, not perfection. Abram was flawed, yet God called him the father of faith because he was willing to make a move. You may have fallen, but that doesn't mean God is finished writing your story. The faith He wants to birth in you will lift you beyond your history. Active faith breaks bondage, restores identity, and unlocks possibilities you never imagined. Your transformation begins with one step. Listen to this dynamic teaching and discover what happens when the Holy Spirit revolutionizes your faith walk! A Story Worth Sharing: The Unknown God RevealedScripture: Acts 17:16–34This week at Central, we began a new worship series, A Story Worth Sharing. Pastor Sarah reflected on Paul's visit to Athens, where the city was filled with shrines, altars, and philosophies — including one altar marked “to an unknown god.” Rather than debate or condemn, Paul began with the Athenians' spiritual hunger. He connected their searching to the God already at work in their lives, the God revealed fully in Jesus Christ. This is the Methodist story of prevenient grace: God's love goes before us, stirring in our lives even before we recognize it. Like the Athenians, we may have “altars to an unknown god” — seasons or moments when we longed for something more but didn't yet have the words or story to name it. Paul shows us that evangelism isn't argument but invitation, telling the story of God's grace in a way that meets people where they are. Each of us has a story worth sharing — a story that reveals God's presence and love in our lives. By telling those stories, we offer others not debate, but light.
As we wrap up the series on the Lord's Prayer, the sermon notes the variety of prayers that were gathered over the last two months. Over a thousand individual prayers were submitted by our congregation, but that's just a drop in the bucket of human conversation with God. Prayer can be seen as simply -paying attention – to the world around you. Your attention is limited. The good news is that God has unlimited attention for you and your particular circumstances, and for everyone else too. This message is brought to us by Pastor Sarah. The Old Testament reading is from !Kings, Chapter 8, Verses 27 - 30. The New Testament lesson is from Ephesians, Chapter 1, Verses 15 - 19.
This Walk It Out Wednesday with Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts continues the conversation from her Sunday message “Love Steps In.” Pastor Sarah reminds us that we were created in God's image — not the image of our wounds — and that Jesus came to restore us to the right model. He shows us how to live, love, and walk with the right heart posture for real transformation. This message explores our call to love, the way Jesus restored Peter with love, and how God's love meets us in every season — whether providing, correcting, or comforting. Pastor Sarah also tackles questions people submitted, including: • How do I change my input when everything around me is negative? • What can I do to truly change and not fall back into old patterns? • How do I make God's Word the final authority in my life? • What does worship really look like beyond a song? • Why pray in tongues, and what does it mean? • How can I stir hunger for God in my family? • What does walking in love each day actually look like? Don't miss this chance to see how God's love transforms our minds, restores our souls, and gives us the strength to walk it out. Tamar Sometimes a story carries such weight that it leaves us speechless. This week's campfire story is one of these stories. Tamar was a daughter of King David, but her half-brother destroyed her life. She was helpless, voiceless, and humiliated. So many people live with this terrible reality every day. Rather than ignoring these stories, we can learn to listen, grieve and change. We all have voices and privilege we can use to help those around us who are helpless and powerless. Yes, it means doing difficult things. Yes, it means having uncomfortable conversations. But ultimately when we speak up for those in need, God steps in and changes everything. God ultimately creates beauty out of brokenness, and sometimes God uses us to make that happen. Warning: This sermon deals with sexual violence and may be upsetting to some. Pastor Sarah wraps up the series on the book of Revelation with a message of hope. For many, Revelation has been presented as a stern warning meant to control behavior of the masses. Not so in the hands of both Pastor Sarah and Pastor Garrett. Revelation 21-22 is reinterpreted through the lens of hope. And Pastor Sarah sends the listener into the world encouraged to look for areas of life in need of repair. Relationships? Perspectives? Actual machinery? Let this sermon take you to the place in your spirit where you answer this question for yourself.

When your strength runs out, when fear torments your mind, and when your love falls short, God's love steps in. In this compassionate message, Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts teaches from John 21, where Jesus meets Peter after his denial. Peter's love had failed, his confidence was shaken, and he no longer trusted himself. Yet Jesus restored him through love and called him to follow again. That same love is available to you. Real transformation doesn't come from changing our behavior — it begins with what we allow into our hearts and minds. If you change the input, the output will follow. God's presence renews your thoughts, restores your identity, and empowers you to walk in freedom. His love casts out fear, steadies your soul, and sustains you when human love falls short. This is a timely word for anyone who needs a reminder: Your story doesn't end where your love failed. God's love will meet you there, restore you, and carry you forward. Jesus encountered evil many times during his ministry. Evil can be difficult to envision, because it is so far out of our day to day experience. Does evil describe some of what we see in today's world? In order to effectively address evil in our midst, first we must see it for what it is and then renounce it. Today's message is brought to us by Pastor Sarah. The Gospel lesson is from Mark Chapter 5, verses 1 - 20.
In this heartfelt episode of People of the 'Burg, Pastor Sarah sits down with Todd Shiverdecker to explore his faith journey, his deep roots in church life, and the powerful role community has played in shaping his walk with Christ. Todd's story begins in a small United Methodist church where his grandmother—his spiritual rock—instilled in him the importance of faith. Though his church attendance varied through the years, it wasn't until he and his wife Donna found their home at Ginghamsburg Church that his faith truly deepened.
This is how a leader speaks. Pastor Sarah takes us on a book of Revelation journey with the Rider on the White Horse. There are so many quotable moments in this sermon that approaches Revelation with clarity and kindness and not the shame and fear of old.
What does it mean to have our sins forgiven? Although we hear this regularly, it is difficult for us to understand and internalize what this means. This message is from Pastor Sarah. The Gospel reading is from Matthew Chapter 18, Verses 15-22.

Welcome to the final week of our Hidden Gems series! Today, Pastor Sarah from our Maui Campus brings a powerful and practical message titled "Committing to God's Path" — a timely reminder that God's promises are found when we trust His direction over our own understanding. Life is full of decisions. But when we commit our plans, steps, and motives to the Lord, Scripture tells us He will direct, watch over, and establish our path. Key Scriptures: Proverbs 3:5–6 | Proverbs 16:3, 9, 18 | Psalm 121:1–4 | James 1:5 | Psalm 119:105 | Psalm 37:5 In this message, you'll learn: – Promise 1: God will direct your paths – Promise 2: God will watch over your journey – Promise 3: God will establish your steps — firm, stable, and lasting – Practical ways to stay committed to God's direction every day “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” — Proverbs 16:9 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 7 Practical Ways to Stay Committed: – Watch your motives – Seek wise counsel – Wait on the Lord – Trust God's wisdom over your own – Arrest pride – Use Scripture as your guide – Write out your commitment Final Thought: God isn't asking for perfect plans — He's asking for surrendered hearts. What would change if you stopped trusting your own path and fully committed your steps to Him this week?
Our daily bread. Praying this petition shapes us to notice that some people have bread enough for months while others struggle to get through the day. When we ask for daily bread, we ask not only for ourselves, but also for others. And we ask for more than just bread, but for all that people need to thrive. Ultimately, we are asking to trust God in little and big things, every day. This message is from Pastor Sarah. The Old Testament reading comes from Exodus, Chapter 16, Verses 11 to 18. The Gospel is from Luke, Chapter 6 verses 26 to 35.
Pastor Sarah dives into the symbolism of the seven seals in Revelation 6 and applies the call to action to modern symbols. The interpretation is fresh and leaves you feeling empowered and not frightened or shamed.

Singing Our Faith: The Still Center Scripture: 1 Kings 19:8–16This week at Central UMC, we turned to the story of the prophet Elijah—a man who stood against injustice, called down fire from heaven, and then found himself hiding in a cave, burnt out and afraid. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah flees to Mount Horeb, the same sacred ground where Moses once met God, and there, in the quiet, he encounters the divine—not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in the sound of sheer silence.Pastor Sarah led us through a powerful reflection on the "still center"—a space of sincere, grounded faith in a noisy and chaotic world. Drawing inspiration from The Swan, a serene musical interlude tucked inside a satirical symphony, we explored how God calls us not to match the noise of the world but to embody grace and stillness within it.In a time of performative religion, relentless news cycles, and spiritual fatigue, we were reminded that God's voice often comes not in spectacle, but in silence. Elijah's story reminds us that we're not alone, that faith is passed from generation to generation, and that God is still speaking—quietly, but powerfully.

Pastor Sarah shares with us a message of re-affirmation about the Gospel of Jesus and how we are saved by His actions and all we have to do is accept His sacrifice for us and call Him Lord.
Are our prayers always answered? Jesus taught his followers the Lord's Prayer, and told them to be persistent in prayer. As we begin a summer series on the Lord's Prayer, the sermon addressed the closeness of God our father, the other-ness of God in heaven, and what it means for our prayers to be “answered.” This weeks message comes from Pastor Sarah. Our Gospel is from Luke Chapter 11, verses 1 - 10.
In this powerful message, Pastor Sarah unpacks the weight words carry and challenges us to be rooted, not reactive. “I know the plans I have for you…to give you a future with hope.” That's a popular Bible passage, giving hope to people who are in a hard times, but it's only half of the story. Before God gives this promise, God says to settle down and make homes and families there – in this case, in a foreign country as refugees. Our faithful actions now – even if they seem small and insignificant – are part of ushering in God's promise of a future with hope. This message is presented by Pastor Sarah. The Scripture lesson comes from Jeremiah Chapter 29, and our Gospel is from John, Chapter 21.

The Grinch who stole Christmas is not usually considered an Easter story, but in this sermon, Pastor Sarah uses the tale of Grinch to describe the miracle of Easter. Just like the Grinch was surprised to find out he hadn't ruined Christmas, everyone involved in the crucifixion was surprised to find out that God's love was more powerful than sin, more powerful even than death. Even Jesus' closest disciples doubted God's power. And so do we. But the good news of Easter is that resurrection doesn't depend on us. God acted to raise Jesus from the dead. What does depend on us? Sharing the good news so that all the world can know! Christ is Risen Indeed Alleluia! Our Bible reading is from the Book of Luke, Chapter 24
