Not all mourning is the same. Some sorrow leads to despair, while godly sorrow leads to repentance, comfort, and freedom. In this message, we examine the spiritual pattern of recognizing sin, mourning over it, turning to God, and experiencing transformation through His grace. No matter how far you feel from God, His comfort is available for the brokenhearted who are willing to come to Him honestly.

In teaching us to pray, Jesus leads us to develop the habit of asking for forgiveness. But this habit doesn't just set us free from the impact of our own sin, it also sets us free from the pain and bitterness of the sin that is committed against us.Application Questions: 1. How often do you confess your sin to God and ask for his forgiveness?2. What are examples of ways you have engaged in distraction, denial, or despair when confronted with conviction?3. How does the promise of Christ set you free from the guilt and condemnation you're tempted to feel?4. How does God's forgiveness of you change how you view others' sin against you?5. Is there anyone in your life God is calling you to forgive?

Send us Fan MailA hard question sits at the center of this Good Friday message: when Jesus prays, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing,” who is the “them.” We follow a provocative reading that points not only to empire and executioners, but to religious leaders and believers who protect comfort, status, and institutional survival while an innocent man is murdered. From Luke 23:34 to 35, the line “the people stood by watching” becomes the hinge. We talk about the silence of the church as a real moral force, not a passive absence. The sermon draws straight lines from biblical history to Christian social justice today, arguing that churches can get lost in debates and performance while communities are crushed by policy, poverty, and violence. The result is a faith that sounds loud inside the sanctuary and goes quiet where pain is public. To widen the lens, we bring in Martin Luther King Jr. on the “appalling silence” of good people and Martin Niemoller's warning about what happens when you only speak up once harm reaches your doorstep. We also point to Janelle Monae's “Hell You Talmbout” as a cultural witness that turns grief into naming, and naming into action, especially amid conversations about Black Lives Matter, racial justice, and police violence. If you've ever wondered why younger generations distrust church talk that never becomes public courage, this is for you. Subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review with one place you think people of faith need to speak up next. Support the show

To Become Jesus Followers: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” MESSAGE SUMMARY: Every time you lie or cheat or lust or get stoned, you put a barrier between yourself and God because God is Holy. God's Holiness prevents Him from communing with sinners. The author of 1 John tells us in 1 John 3:8: “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.". God brought Jesus, who was both God and man, to live on earth. Therefore, Jesus' blood sacrifice on the cross permitted Him to take on your sins. By His sacrifice, Jesus became the doorway for your personal relationship with God and a path for your Salvation from your sins (1 John 1:9-10): “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.". TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, everything in me resists following you into the garden of Gethsemane to fall on my face to the ground before you. Grant me the courage to follow you all the way to the cross, whatever that might mean for my life. And then, by your grace, lead me to resurrection life and power. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 100). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Despair. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Joy. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). Matthew 6:12 Do you have a mortgage? Student Loan? Car loan? Do you owe a friend $20 you still haven't paid back? Any credit card debt? We're all debtors somewhere. Don't you want them just to go away? Wouldn't it be great if someone told you it was paid in full? "We will not forgive!" These bold words can bluster from both sides of global conflicts and dinner tables. The words become weapons that shape our hearts, relationships and history. Jesus taught us to pray, "...forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors." That's a completely different way of praying and living in this world, isn't it? Somehow, in these simple words, Jesus brings our great need for our debts to wiped clean and our account with others to be reconciled together. What are we do with this? As we rise from Easter Sunday and walk out the hope of the empty tomb, we return this Sunday to the Lord's prayer and the question of what we do with the debts we owe and are owed. Phil Wagler
Today we gather in quietness and darkness out of respect for the solemnity of the events we recall. "Good Friday" is, of course, a retroactive designation. At the time, due to their ignorance, Jesus' followers did not see his death as good. And by itself, it doesn't help sinners long term, but because of what happened on Easter morning, we can look back on the death of the Son of God and say that it was good. It was horrible, sad, and a true abomination of justice, but it was good. On Good Friday, sin and darkness lost. Grace and light won. Stand in awe of it today. Then, worship with us in the glorious light of Easter on Sunday.
Father Forgive: Forgive Us Through This Holy Supper
On Maundy Thursday, Jesus knew his death was coming, but instead of fighting to prevent it, he calmly celebrated the Passover with his disciples so that he could give them an even greater meal. The Lord's Supper is his promise of love, presence, and forgiveness.
Forgiveness sounds simple until it's personal. In this message, we unpack what Jesus meant when He taught us to pray, “forgive us…as we forgive,” and why letting go isn't optional if you want to live free. We all carry hurt—like rocks in a backpack—and over time, that weight shapes how we think, respond, and relate to others. This episode gets real about pain, unforgiveness, and the cost of holding on, while showing how choosing to forgive isn't about excusing what happened—it's about releasing the weight so it no longer controls your life.

In our Traditional sermon from March 15, 2026, Andy continues to share with us from the Lord's prayer as found in Matthew. We talk today about why some churches say "trespasses," others "sins," and others "debts." This simple phrase tells us a lot about who we are and the depth of God's grace.
This week on Millennial TeaV, we're recapping The Hills Season 3, Episode 14, “Forgive and Forget.” And let's just say… forgiving might be easier said than done. Meanwhile, Audrina is navigating her own relationship confusion (as always), and tensions are still bubbling under the surface in the friend group. Is forgiveness actually possible in this episode… or is everyone just pretending for the sake of peace? Matthew 6:12
It's a common belief that sounds spiritual—and even Biblical: God forgives us as we forgive others. But is that actually the Gospel? If you've ever been told God's acceptance depends on you being endlessly nice, sweet, and forgiving, then you need to hear this call. Because that idea isn't just misleading—it's dangerous. In this episode, I unpack Jesus' teaching on forgiveness, including His parable about forgiving “seventy times seven.” You'll see how His words have been twisted to promote a performance-based Christianity—and why the truth is far more freeing. Are we forgiven because we forgive? Or do we forgive because we've been forgiven? Let's clear up the confusion and rest in the boundless, unconditional forgiveness that comes from His blood, not our behavior.

Malachi 2:10-17 | Faithful to Fulfill, Part 36 | 2/15/2026 | Pastor Matt Jones. The prophet criticizes Israel for dealing treacherously with their foreign wives. God hates divorce. What implications does this hold for our society today and for us Christians specifically?
In our Feb 8 Sunday gathering we continue to explore the Lord's Prayer. This week's discussion questions are below: 1. When you think about prayer, what do you usually ask God for? How does that compare to the idea of “daily bread” in the Lord's Prayer? 2. What do you think Jesus is teaching us by telling us to ask for what we need today instead of what we might need tomorrow? 3. Why do you think daily dependence on God can feel uncomfortable or even scary? 4. In what ways do we try to control the future instead of trusting God to provide for us? 5. The sermon said, “Daily bread teaches us to trust God as provider, and forgiveness teaches us to trust God as judge.” What does that idea mean to you? 6. Is there a difference between forgiveness and removing consequences? Why is that distinction important? 7. How has God already provided for your real needs in this season of your life? 8. Is there someone you are struggling to forgive, or a hurt you're still carrying? What would it look like to “release it to God” this week? 9. This week's practice is to ask two questions each day: What do I really need today? What do I need to release today? How might that change the way you pray or live this week?
Hello, hello, and welcome to another episode of the Red Couch Theology podcast. Hey, this week we're doing some serious theology. We're talking about atonement, or maybe put more for some of you out there, if you're not sure what atonement is, it's how in the world does the cross and resurrection save us? Like, really, what happens there? How does this event that took place thousands of years ago affect us today? What took place in the universe when that took place? Well, we wrestle with these kinds of questions today, and we hope we land on some of them. At least some nuggets and crumbs for you to ponder as you wrestle with them yourselves. Let's dive into the deep end with atonement.

In the fourth week in the series 'Teach us to pray' we look at the two lines at the very heart of the Lord's Prayer; forgiveness. We explored firstly the shape of forgiveness in Scripture, what forgiveness looks like, and finally at practically how we do it.

Forgiving those who have hurt us is a challenging call. Fr. Mike explains what it means to "forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us." We learn that forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing and that we can transform our hurt into intercession with God's grace. We ask the Lord to soften our hearts so that they may remain open to loving and forgiving others. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2838-2845.
