In this episode of Bourbon Lens, Jake and Scott explore how certain new whiskey releases capture a true sense of place — from the rickhouses of Kentucky to the hills of Tennessee. They start with the latest installment of the Russell's Reserve Single Rickhouse Collection from Wild Turkey Distillery, featuring barrels aged in the legendary Camp Nelson E rickhouse. Each release in this series reflects the unique environmental conditions that make individual rickhouses so special to the final flavor profile. The discussion also touches on the newest Hardin's Creek releases from James B. Beam Distilling Co., continuing the brand's innovative storytelling around age, terroir, and experimentation. Jake and Scott then take a deeper dive into the Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Special Release: Tanyard Hill Rye Whiskey, a bold new offering that clocks in at a remarkable 145.9 proof. They share their tasting notes and impressions on this powerhouse whiskey — and discuss what makes high-proof expressions both exciting and challenging for whiskey drinkers. The conversation turns reflective as they consider how a glass of whiskey can transport you to another place — whether it's tasting a barrel sample inside a rickhouse or enjoying a pour that vividly expresses its environment. An ecologist in California claimed that the iron laws of nature locked humanity into destroying our environment. This meant that we must take drastic measures to rein in unfettered capitalism and the American habit of overconsumption, lest we deplete our common resources. That argument made Garrett Hardin one of the most influential and celebrated environmentalists to ever live. Yet, he had a tragic view of the world that turned his green dream into a green nightmare. This is the final episode of Cited Podcast's new season, Green Dreams. Green Dreams tells stories of radical environmental thinkers and their dreams for our green future. We put Hardin's Creek's 11-year Claremont trio to the test—Warehouse R (single-story, cool and dark), Warehouse W (five floors by the creek), and Warehouse G (a nine-floor relic)—to see how heat, humidity, and airflow sculpt bourbon at 110 proof.First, we revisit Hardin's Creek's evolving story: from Jacob's Well and Colonel James B. Beam to the 17-year tri-city series and Golden Origins corn whiskey. Then we get hands-on with a structured tasting. Warehouse R shows cherry, vanilla, and honeyed ease with a gentle oak-leather fade—dangerously drinkable and beam-true. Warehouse W shifts caramel-forward with milk-dud chocolate and a softer oak footprint, a natural match for a cigar without overwhelming the palate. Warehouse G brings high-floor energy: deeper oak, layered char, and a finish that recalls Bookers' breadth while staying elegant. We compare notes on legs, body, hug, and finish, score Warehouse R using our Barrel Bottle Breakdown rubric, and stack W and G against it to choose a bottle to hunt. Along the way we break down why floor height accelerates extraction, how creekside humidity tamps down tannins, and why used toasted barrels make Golden Origins a corn whiskey, not a bourbon. If you're curious about warehouse science, microclimates, and how “same distillate” can become three distinct experiences, this tasting flight is your roadmap.Subscribe for more deep-dive tastings, share this with a bourbon friend who loves warehouse talk, and drop your ranking—R, W, or G—in the comments. What happens when the worst thing you've ever done becomes the foundation for your life's work?Episode SummaryMy guest on this episode is Tom Hardin, otherwise known as Tipper X. He's been on the show before, but this time we're tackling a different angle. If you don't already know his story, Tom was a rising star in the hedge fund world in his twenties when he became involved in insider trading. Caught by the FBI, he made the decision to cooperate — ultimately becoming one of the most prolific informants in the largest investigation of its kind in U.S. history. His work with the FBI helped secure dozens of convictions, and while his own case remained under seal for years, he eventually chose to speak publicly about what happened — not to excuse it, but to help others understand how good people can make bad decisions. If you haven't heard Tom's first appearance on the show, where he tells that extraordinary story in full, I highly recommend listening to it here before diving into this episode.Because this time, we're not talking about what he did back then; we're talking about what he's done since. Tom has built a powerful second act, using his experience to educate organisations about ethics, decision-making and behavioural risk. He's now delivered over 600 talks, and what fascinates me is how he's turned that into something both impactful and sustainable. His forthcoming book Wired on Wall Street is due out next year, and he'll be back on the show to talk about that. But for now, I wanted to explore what it means to build a career from a cautionary tale. In this conversation, we explore:How Tom built a speaking business around his past without glamourising itThe frameworks he's developed to help companies recognise ethical pressure pointsHow he navigates scepticism, manages reputation, and avoids turning his story into a performanceThe impact he hopes to have, and how he measures itThis is a conversation about vulnerability, professionalism, and doing good with what you've learned the hard way. Whether you're in compliance, leadership, education, or just curious about how we turn failure into purpose, this one's for you.Guest ProfileTom is a former hedge fund analyst turned FBI informant, now a globally recognised speaker and ethics educator. Known as Tipper X, Tom shares his story to help others understand the behavioural drivers of misconduct and the power of accountability. BrownTown chops it up with Kiara Hardin and Infiniti Gant, multifaceted organizers with the Obama Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) coalition. Ten years since the announcement of the Obama Presidential Center (OPC) on Chicago's South Side and five years since the passing of the Woodlawn Ordinance that ensured housing protections for some residents, the coalition has continued to organize to ensure affordable housing for more area residents, including and specifically South Shore. The gang compares and contrasts the political moment and opportunities from summer 2020, in the midst of the uprisings, to fall 2025 under a Brandon Johnson Mayoral Administration with a backdrop of a fascist takeover on the federal level. They end with a discussion on the interpersonal nature of community organizing at its root in relation to de-pedestalizing politicians in order to circumvent power to the people because when we fight, we win! Send us a textTiny recounts the Scotchy Bourbon Boys' action-packed week at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, highlighting distillery tours, bottle releases, and unforgettable experiences. The team captured professional-quality content throughout the festival while collecting exceptional bourbon.• Pre-festival activities included podcasting at Neely Family Distillery and hosting a fan meetup at Revival Vintage Spirits• Acquired a 1946 Dowling Deluxe Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (distilled in 1938) from Revival• Visited numerous distilleries including Town Branch, Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, and Old Carter• Organized a bus tour featuring stops at Evan Williams, the Pendennis Club, and Old Louisville Whiskey Company• Participated in a Maker's Mark Private Selection despite a power outage from a lightning strike• CT heroically rescued a young woman from an overturned car during their travels• Jim Beam "saved the festival" by ensuring enough special releases for general admission attendees• Acquired bottles including Knob Creek 21, Booker's Reserve, Hardin's Creek expressions, and festival-exclusive picksJoin us next Tuesday when we'll announce our Christmas party, the Crystal Glencairn tasting, new membership packages, and the pre-sale of our Maker's Mark Private Select. What happens when you combine Kentucky's biggest bourbon celebration with the Scotchy Bourbon Boys' passion for capturing authentic whiskey experiences? An unforgettable week filled with rare tastings, exclusive access, and unexpected adventures. Our journey began days before the official Kentucky Bourbon Festival, with an ambitious itinerary that included podcasting with Rebecca Neely in their speakeasy, hosting fans at Revival Vintage Spirits, and acquiring a truly historic bourbon – a 1946 Dowling Deluxe distilled in 1938. Each day brought new discoveries as we visited Town Branch, Jim Beam, Whiskey Thief, and numerous other distilleries, capturing professional-quality content while immersing ourselves in Kentucky's bourbon culture. The centerpiece of our pre-festival activities was our curated bus tour, taking whiskey enthusiasts to legendary Louisville destinations including the Evan Williams Experience, the historic Pendennis Club (birthplace of the Old Fashioned), Old Carter, and Old Louisville Whiskey Company. Walter Zausch's extraordinary hospitality at the Pendennis Club – featuring custom Old Fashioneds and a 25-year Derby bottle – exemplified the personal connections that make bourbon culture so special.Among the most memorable experiences was participating in a Maker's Mark Private Selection despite the distillery suffering a power outage from a lightning strike. Selecting staves by natural light in the lakehouse created an atmosphere connecting us to bourbon's pre-industrial roots, resulting in a selection that perfectly accentuates the whiskey's creme brulee and caramel notes. The festival itself revealed the growing intensity of bottle hunting, with some enthusiasts waiting hours without success. However, Jim Beam's generous allocation of special releases – including Knob Creek 21, Booker's Reserve 2025, and three Hardin's Creek expressions – ensured even general admission attendees could secure remarkable bottles.Beyond the planned events, we experienced an unexpected moment of heroism when CT rescued a young woman from an overturned vehicle – a powerful remi Add for SOFL If You Have GohstsSupport the showhttps://www.scotchybourbonboys.com The Scotchy bourbon Boys are #3 in Feedspots Top 60 whiskey podcasts in the world https://podcast.feedspot.com/whiskey_podcasts/

Tamar Sometimes a story carries such weight that it leaves us speechless. This week's campfire story is one of these stories. Tamar was a daughter of King David, but her half-brother destroyed her life. She was helpless, voiceless, and humiliated. So many people live with this terrible reality every day. Rather than ignoring these stories, we can learn to listen, grieve and change. We all have voices and privilege we can use to help those around us who are helpless and powerless. Yes, it means doing difficult things. Yes, it means having uncomfortable conversations. But ultimately when we speak up for those in need, God steps in and changes everything. God ultimately creates beauty out of brokenness, and sometimes God uses us to make that happen. Warning: This sermon deals with sexual violence and may be upsetting to some. This week on Chill Filtered, Cole and Bryan pour something extra special from the James B. Beam Distillery: Hardin's Creek Jacob's Well (Second Release). At over 17 years old, this whiskey has the boys intrigued as they taste it for the very first time. Before sipping, they catch up on Cole's recent vacation, Bryan's daughter not quite ready to walk it up, and dive into a little background on Jacob Beam himself. On Whiskey World News, Bryan reads about Buffalo Trace Distillery adding a restaurant to their Frankfort site. And on What Whiskey Would You Choose?, Bryan poses the question: Buffalo Trace or Jack Daniel's — which distillery do you pick? A rare pour, family stories, bourbon history, and a major distillery showdown — it's all here.
