On episode 286 of The Neutral Corner boxing podcast, host Michael Montero gives some real talk on the career of Mikey Garcia, which he argues was carefully crafted with smoke and mirrors. Garcia lost to Sandor Martin last weekend in California. Montero also reviews wins by Emanuel Navarrete, Mairis Briedis, Hughie Fury, Chris Eubank, Savannah Marshall and Jonatan Gonzalez. Last but not least, Montero previews the 130-pound showdown between Jamel Herring and Shakur Stevenson in Atlanta, which he will be covering ringside for The Ring magazine and RingTV.com. https://youtu.be/mepEVIB3ric
On the latest edition of the show, it's time for T.J. and his guests to get a little nostalgic, as two huge fight anniversaries happened four decades ago this week with Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard. T.J. welcomes Marquis Johns, Sr. Writer of Big Fightweekend.com, and historian Lee Groves of RingTV.com and his own boxing history books to the show. The guys discuss "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali recapturing the Heavyweight title for a second time, when he defeated Leon Spinks in a rematch in the Louisiana Superdome in 1978. Lee gives great perspective on how Ali got "the magic back" for one more night. They also go over the anniversary of Leonard's epic World Welterweight title win over unbeaten Thomas "Hit man" Hearns the same week but three years later in 1981 in Las Vegas. It was part of the "Four Kings" who ruled the middle divisions of boxing in the late 70s through the early 90s with Robert Duran and Marvin Hagler. And, they became the wealthiest non-Heavyweights ever in doing so. Finally, T.J. and Marquis go over the limited fight cards for the weekend that was supposed to have Canelo Alvarez going for Super Middleweight supremacy but its delayed until November. Still, there are a couple of Premier Boxing Champions cards on back to back nights in Bakersfield, CA that Marquis has insight on for fans. Host T.J. Rives and his guests are ready to get you up to speed on a great documentary that is out this weekend and preview the World Welterweight Title fight in Texas between unbeaten, Errol Spence and top challenger Danny Garcia.First, T.J. talks with Emmy Award winning filmmaker Eric Drath to discuss his new documentary film on the incredible flamboyant boxing career of former multi-division World Champ, Hector "Macho" Camacho. They discuss Camacho's meteoric rise from the ghetto of Spanish Harlem in New York City to becoming arguably the most watched love/hate championship fighter of the 1980s. Camacho's wild and crazy career was always headed for a wild ending. However, no one was prepared for him to be murdered in Puerto Rico at just age 50, eight years ago. Camacho's killing remains unsolved to this day and it's the key part of the documentary's end with a quest for justice for his mother and family.Next up, T.J. welcomes Marquis Johns, Sr. Writer for BigFightWeekend.com along with their guest, Ryan O'Hara, contributor of RingTV.com. T.J., Marquis, and Ryan talk some about the career and impact of Camacho, in advance of the documentary airing. And then, they turn their attention to the Spence-Garcia showdown in Texas Saturday night. Can Spence look like the fighter that he was prior to his horrible car crash in October of 2019? Will Garcia take advantage of Spence's long time off and possible apprehension after the car wreck? The guys assess and make their predictions. Finally, T.J. and Marquis conclude with the rundown of the Spence-Garcia undercard fights, as well as the Matchroom Boxing Friday afternoon U.S. Time World Super Middleweight main event featuring unbeaten WBO champ, Billy Joe Saunders of England fighting little known Martin Murray.Get all the insight and analysis into Spence-Garcia on PPV Saturday on the "Big Fight Weekend" podcast and make sure to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc.!!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/big-fight-weekend/donations
Big news for the "Montero On Boxing" family. The Neutral Corner boxing podcast has been picked up by The Ring and will soon be featured on Ring's YouTube channel (youtube.com/TheRingDigital) and web site (RingTV.com). Michael Montero details what will change and what will remain the same going forward.
Terence Crawford still doesn’t have an opponent for his next title defense but some believe it’ll be Kell Brook. Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum gave an interview this week with RingTV, but he DIDN’T say who he’ll be facing. But he did have this to say
Promoter Eddie Hearn announced last week that the Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz rematch is a done deal scheduled for December 7 in Saudi Arabia. Ruiz and his team state the total opposite and claim they haven’t formally agreed to anything yet and Ruiz has even gone as far as saying that he will not go to Saudi Arabia to fight Joshua. This whole thing looks to be a hot mess with both sides seeming to not be on the same page. Eric, Beeb, and special guest Michael Montero from Boxing Monthly and RingTv.com will weigh in on this topic as well as recap WBO World Super Bantamweight Champion Emanuel Navarrete’s one-sided three round destruction of Francisco De Vaca.
Part two of the stacked Talkbox podcast. We have heavyweight prospect, Mike Hunter. Mike is a dark horse in the heavyweight division, being 16-1, and he shares why he is a force to be reckoned with. He may be the best heavyweight you haven’t heard of yet. Definitely tune in for this one! Next up is part two of Art Lovely’s conversation with Woodsy. He shares good stories involving a hall of fame football coach, and continues to share the sports wisdom he has. Finally rounding out this episode of Talkbox is reporter from the RingTv, Cynthia Conte share with Woodsy on what to learn from the Pulev/Sushe kiss incident. We’ll get to hear from another female where she feels Pulev and the reporter might have went wrong.
In what can be looked at as a crossroads fight, the legendary Manny Pacquiao takes on Adrien Broner this Saturday on January 19 to kick off the year's first big PPV event. Pacquiao now at age 40 is looking to prove that he still has what it takes to hang with the top fighters of this generation while Broner gets another shot against a top level fighter to try and prove and stake his claim as one of the top fighters in the sport today. Eric, Beeb, Ringside Robert, and special guest Michael Montero from Ringtv.com and Boxing Monthly preview this intriguing matchup. We will also bring to you the latest boxing news, rumors, and upcoming fight schedule. Call in at (323) 870-3857 to talk boxing with the Ringside Reporter crew.

Though many view Gennady Golovkin's middleweight unification bout against David Lemieux as a mismatch, the fight is still compelling because it features two hard-hitting fighters and all but guarantees a knockout either way. But in addition to its raw appeal, the fight happens in a division with a lot of history behind it. Boxing history just happens to be our thing. Usual hosts/boxing historians Aris Pina of Compubox and The Fight City's Patrick Connor will be joined by Lee Groves, boxing historian, author and contributor to The Ring magazine and RingTV. And the topic this week, in honor of Golovkin-Lemieux, is the greatest middleweight battles of all time, and the greatest middleweight punchers of all time. From yelling at two men in a clinch to wonky disqualifications, badly-yelled commands and taking points with impunity, all sorts of things happen when referee Vic Drakulich is involved -- and that's before he even gets into the ring! Brandon Rios' DQ win over Diego Chaves was disappointing, to say the least, but at least we had a fun stoppage from Sergey Kovalev over Blake Caparello, and a solid fight between Jessie Vargas and Anton Novikov. Wait, no...that was dumbed down by idiot judges too. Another jammed packed edition of the only Boxing podcast you need to get you ready for the fight weekend is here. And, host T.J. Rives and his guests are ready to get you up to speed on a great documentary that is out this weekend and preview the World Welterweight Title fight in Texas between unbeaten, Errol Spence and top challenger Danny Garcia. First, T.J. talks with Emmy Award winning filmmaker Eric Drath to discuss his new documentary film on the incredible flamboyant boxing career of former multi-division World Champ, Hector “Macho” Camacho. They discuss Camacho’s meteoric rise from the ghetto of Spanish Harlem in New York City to becoming arguably the most watched love/hate championship fighter of the 1980s. Camacho’s wild and crazy career was always headed for a wild ending. However, no one was prepared for him to be murdered in Puerto Rico at just age 50, eight years ago. Camacho’s killing remains unsolved to this day and it’s the key part of the documentary’s end with a quest for justice for his mother and family. Next up, T.J. welcomes Marquis Johns, Sr. Writer for BigFightWeekend.com along with their guest, Ryan O’Hara, contributor of RingTV.com. Will Garcia take advantage of Spence’s long time off and possible apprehension after the car wreck? The guys assess and make their predictions. Finally, T.J. and Marquis conclude with the rundown of the Spence-Garcia undercard fights, as well as the Matchroom Boxing Friday afternoon U.S. Time World Super Middleweight main event featuring unbeaten WBO champ, Billy Joe Saunders of England fighting little known Martin Murray. Get all the insight and analysis into Spence-Garcia on PPV Saturday on the “Big Fight Weekend” podcast and make sure to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc.!!
