"Your physicality is your vehicle for all communication, leadership, and influence."   In this episode, Bo Eason, former NFL player, speaker, and author, and I discuss the role of physicality and self-expression in effective communication, parenting, and relationships. This episode answers this one question: What's the connection between the state of your nervous system, your physical presence, and your ability to communicate well?   Bo and I explore the importance of being physically and mentally present in different areas of life, and touch upon the parallels between elite athletes and impactful communicators who express themselves through their strong postures and voices. Bo shares his personal journey and insights on utilizing the body and voice for compelling storytelling and presence. As the author of the book There's No Plan B For Your A-Game, Bo believes that the human body is a powerful instrument and with adaptability and continuous learning, anyone can become a great communicator and excellent at what they do.   Here's what you'll learn about in this episode:   How physical expression makes communication impactful and messages compelling Why your nervous system needs to be in a parasympathetic state that is present and calm to foster creativity and play How deep breathing activates your voice to support communication Ways that presence and embodiment support parenting and influence and inspire others Why people with a history of trauma may struggle to embrace their power and be fully present The need to unapologetically embrace your natural power, authenticity, and strength, even when society tells you to play small Intro to the "Sacred Six," a set of six small exercises designed to activate the voice and body. Why you need a vision to attract support and resources and fufill your dreams     Want to learn the steps to take, in the right order, in order to process trauma safely? Smith was honored as one of Variety's “Titans of Unscripted TV” in 2022, inducted into the Realscreen Awards Hall of Fame in 2021, awarded Broadcasting and Cable's “Producer of the Year” in 2020, Nominated for several Emmy Awards, and received dozens of awards, including NAACP Awards, Realscreen Awards, and Critics Choice Awards. Smith embarked on his career in television as a twenty-two-year-old wunderkind, talking his way into sports production at CBC in his native Canada. He quickly distinguished himself as a rising star at the network, where he produced three Olympic Games among countless other high-profile events. At the age of twenty-eight, Smith was named the youngest ever head of CBC Sports. His successful run at the network ended when American broadcasting icon Dick Clark lured him to Hollywood to develop and produce a wide variety of entertainment programming. Then as the head of programming and production at FOX Sports Net, Smith played an instrumental role in the launch and growth of this massive entity, before the biggest reach of his life—the creation of his eponymous production company that has thrived for more than twenty years. He lives in Los Angeles. In REACH: Hard Lessons and Learned Truths from a Lifetime in Television (Blackstone Publishing, June 6, 2023), Smith shares adventures, triumphs, and hard-won lessons from his astonishing career, beginning with his unprecedented ascension from the ranks of sports production to become the youngest ever head of CBC Sports. Never one to rest on his laurels, Smith then moved from Canada to the United States to produce a wide variety of entertainment programming with his mentor, television icon Dick Clark. Years later, he spearheaded an entirely new approach to sports television at FOX Sports Net, helping to grow the fledgling business into a true industry powerhouse. In 2000, Smith made the biggest reach of his career with the launch of A. Smith & Co. Productions which has produced over 200 television shows on more than fifty networks. Across genres, formats, and platforms, Smith and his A. Smith & Co. team have earned reputation for original, emotional, buzz-worthy, and deeply personal storytelling.  In these pages, Smith takes us behind the scenes of dozens of pivotal moments in sports and television history, ranging from the high intensity control room at the Olympics to the development of The Titan Games with Dwayne (“The Rock”) Johnson. We learn about a show that never was with Donald Trump, as well as a super-far-fetched idea that became the bizarro-classic genre-buster I Survived a Japanese Game Show. Through winning anecdotes involving a disparate cast of famous characters, including Marlon Brando, Gordon Ramsay, Magic Johnson, Little Richard, Wayne Gretzky, Simon Cowell, and Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen, Smith illustrates just how far you can go when you work hard, take risks, and reach for your dreams.  https://www.asmithco.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/arthur-smith-91ba76b/     Seg 1 Interview w/ Jay Glazer about his new book, Unbreakable: In Unbreakable, Jay Glazer talks directly to you, his teammates, and shares his truth. All of his success from his screeching-and-swerving joy ride through professional football, the media, the fighting world, Hollywood, the military-warrior community, comes with a side of relentless depression and anxiety. Living in the gray, as Jay calls it, is just a constant for him. And, in order to work through the gray and succeed, Jay has to maintain an Unbreakable Mindset. With this book, you can:   ·       Be of Service-help others and help yourself in the process ·       Build Your Team-give support, get support ·       Never Underestimate the Power of Laughter-never take yourself too seriously ·       Be Proud of Your Scars-our trauma makes us who we are   Throughout Unbreakable, Jay will use his stories-featuring some of the biggest, baddest, and most fascinating characters in the public eye today-to show how he walks this walk, has learned that while the gray is very real, it doesn't have to define him. And it doesn't have to define you either. Jay takes readers on a behind-the-scenes journey, sharing never-before-heard stories about his own mental health that feature some of the most fascinating characters in the public eye today. The book offers honest, outspoken advice and insights gleaned from Jay's own fight against the dark forces of depression and anxiety, his decades-long journey to the top of sports-journalism and his traumatic survival of a near-death experience.  From an unlikely friendship with Michael Strahan that opened the door to his big break inside the NFL sports reporting, to helping veterans fight for their lives in the gym and even playing himself on the hit HBO show Ballers, Jay has seen it all. His experiences acting as coach to musicians like Wiz Khalifa and Demi Lovato to award-winning athletes and some of the most powerful people in business have given him the ability to laugh at himself while keeping up the fight against his own mental health struggles.     Seg 2 Interview w/ Arthur Smith about his new book, Reach: Arthur has been working in TV production for 30 years. He has produced sports and competition and game shows for major networks as well as worked at Fox Sports one. Famous shows he's created or American ninja warrior and Hells kitchen. He's also worked on the Olympics multiple times. Arthur's approaches simple you need to understand your audience. Do you wanna have in motion and whatever store you were telling to bring people in and make them feel some thing. Try to create storylines that appeal to everybody to gain a wide audience. American Ninja Warrior was a show of achievement, celebrating the contestants. It was a simple concept that makes you feel good. Arthur's worked on multiple Olympic Games. Worked on the 1988 Olympics which was very tough because the winter Olympics were in Calgary that year and the Summer Olympics were in sold. Olympics are very complex production with wide coverage. You have to find stories within the greater competition. The story of 1988 was the race of the Century with Ben Johnson versus Carl Lewis to determine who the fastest man in the world was. Ben Johnson won the gold and set a new speed record. Then later there was a scandal that Ben had cheated and he lost his medal. Arthur worked on a TV show with Jay Glazer called pros first Joe's. Where ex NFL players competed against average people. These competition and reality shows are the scripting of unscripted. Reality shows that are docudrama Or more scripted. What Arthur tries to do is more unscripted to get real stories. Takes an outline of their life type approach with you over shoot your footage and then find the stories.   Seg 3 2004 who created Hells kitchen which is totally pioneer that type of competition food show. Prior to that there had not been a successful Netwerk food show, it did not exist. Hells kitchen brought celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay to major fame. Need a title and a star to build a new concept of a shell for fox. It was going to be a food show competition which chefs going through boot camps and then the competition. It was very authentic with 80 cameras in a studio built restaurant. In 2000 survivor was a big hit which created many copycat reality competition shows. This is the skeleton model for many shows. When they created Hells kitchen in 2004, the belief was that reality shows it becomes saturated and it would not work. They started on Monday night on a holiday weekend, the show took off and has been on for 22 seasons. Author Smith's book reach, it's symbolic because when you reach to find out what you're capable of. He has numerous stories of his adventures with celebrities through the years and creating TV shows. There's stories in the book about Gordon Ramsay, Dick Clark, the rock, numerous sports stars, and Rupert Murdoch of Fox fame. Arthur is giving the book proceeds to six different charities. It's called from here on out is to help young people create a career   Seg 4 Arthur was working at the Fox sports Netwerk in the 1990s. Arthur was living in LA he had moved to sports from traditional TV. Then Fox Sports in the NFL deal was struck in the early 1990s. Rupert Murdoch knew how to build an asset in Netwerk. He needed the NFL to build Netwerk, he needed the asset. He overbid for the NFL got NFC football from CBS. Then he use the NFL to build the entire fox net work. Murdoch Murdoch had foresight. He understood that there's 500 channels and cable, and the TV is fragmented landscape. But with football you could still build ratings. Originally Fox only broadcast a few nights a week and was not on in multiple markets. But once they got the NFL they built out to a seven day a week Netwerk on all around the country. Live sports is still must see TV. Sunday night football is the highest rated weekly TV show. Rupert Murdoch Fox took big swings, big risks that can foul or yeah hit it bag. Rupert Murdoch also owns sky Netwerk in Australia. Just like the NFL he cut a deal with the Premier league soccer in England to air their sport. Arthur has a show template for competition shows that has worked multiple times. Show production process is very complex. Another show Arthur create it was a family game show called the floor is lava. Show is similar to the old nickelodeon kids competition shows. Arthur asked himself before creating a show how are you going to challenge people? What is the purpose of the show? American ninja first started it was on g4 TV. This was a gaming channel that doesn't even exist anymore. Eventually they moved up to NBC and started airing in prime time. It was a prime time obstacle course show. The athletes root for each other and usually there is no winner. It's all about men and women competing on the same course. Ninja warrior is based on Japanese show called the attempt. American ninja Warrior has grown beyond the show to merchandise, you see ninja birthday parties, ninja gyms.         If you enjoyed this show, you may like:  BRT Sports:  HERE  BRT Hollywood: HERE BRT Marketing: HERE BRT Business: HERE  More - BRT Best of: https://brt-show.libsyn.com/category/Best+Of     Thanks for Listening. EPISODE 246: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT:  As a Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz asked the trillion-dollar question – whether James Comer and the House Oversight Committee and their indicted fugitive Chinese Agent witness have quote “jeopardized Homeland Security in their search to help Donald Trump” – Comer and Nancy Mace and Speaker McCarthy and all the others attached at the hip to Gal Luft have Thelma-And-Louised it and they are headed right for the edge of the Grand Canyon. Moskowitz is not yet trying to put this directly under noses AT Homeland Security but that is the inevitable outcome. Gal Luft is indicted as a Chinese agent and the Republicans are trying to use him to help Trump seize power. People go to prison for this. Is Comer adroitly fleeing? Not at all. He has scheduled more hearings next week with his OTHER discredited "witness." And Speaker McCarthy has claimed the revelation that Luft was indicted 254 days ago only increases his credibility because it emphasizes that nobody indicted Hunter Biden and McCarthy is not a bright man, just a clever one, like the rat who can find the quickest way through the maze to the cheese that is the House Speakership. NOW would be the right time to explain this whole thing with the Chinese Energy company C-E-F-C that Gol Looft and Hunter Biden did indeed both work for, and why the similarity ends there, and why it is a dangerous thing to let a man as dumb as Kevin McCarthy try to “extrapolate” anything when it is a remarkable development that in that sound bite you just heard Kevin McCarthy SPELL “C-E-F-C” correctly. Here is the Kevin McCarthy-Jamie Comer “extrapolation.”  Hunter Biden consulted for the Chinese energy company C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means he WORKED for C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means he TOOK MONEY from C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means the ENTIRE BIDEN FAMILY was BANKROLLED by C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means the ENTIRE BIDEN FAMILY was BRIBED by C-E-F-C. This is known not just as extrapolation but as sophistry. Let's use the same process here about somebody else: ME. I used to be the lead sportscaster Fox Sports News owned by Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means I WORKED for Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means I TOOK MONEY from Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means that the entire OLBERMANN FAMILY was bankrolled by Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means that the entire OLBERMANN FAMILY was BRIBED by Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. I think I am spotting a subtle failure in the chain of logic here. Plus: his name is Eli Crane and until yesterday his only claim to fame was founding a company that made shell casings into bottle openers. And then he explained he was NOT trying to keep "colored people" out of the military. Ooops. B-Block (22:40) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Hats of to Representative Kamlager-Dove of Los Angeles. She responds to Marjorie Barney Rubble Greene in the truly correct manner: by asking for Advil. And the Actors' and Writers' strikes are seen from many perspectives but have you ever considered it this way: L.A. is a factory town. 18 of every 1000 employees works IN entertainment and the other 982 want to. Southern California could be in a new Great Depression within six months. (35:02) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The congressman who reportedly edited his own wikipedia entries; the "Fresh Fit" podcast that suddenly added "Fuentes Holocaust Denial;" and Ohio State Representative Bob Young, who in two hours attacked his wife, his brother, and his brother's Storm Window. In the case of the latter - by crashing through it. C-Block (41:00) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: Only a master could combine obvious misogyny with equally obvious certainty that women were better than men. And James Thurber was a master, as you'll hear in his deadpan epic "Mr. Treble Gets Rid Of His Wife."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

DESCRIPTION Inducted June 12, 2003 A 6'11″ center, Gminski played 14 seasons in the NBA. He had an outstanding collegiate career at Duke where he was named ACC Player of the Year for the 1979-80 season. A two-time All-American, Gminski is Duke's all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker. He was selected by the New Jersey Nets as the seventh overall pick in the 1980 NBA draft. During his seven seasons with the Nets, Gminski established himself as a tough player and helped lead the franchise to the playoffs five times. In his final season with the Nets he averaged 16.4 points and 8.8 rebounds before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. In his first season with Philadelphia, he averaged 16.9 points and 10 rebounds per game. The following year he averaged over 17 points per game and led the 76ers to the Atlantic Division title. During his NBA career, Gminski scored more than 10,000 points and grabbed over 6,000 rebounds, a feat accomplished by only a handful of players in NBA history. INDUCTION BANQUET PROGRAM STORY — June 12, 2003 EXCELLENCE AND CONSISTENCY By Tom TarapackiNPASHF Board Member / Polish American Journal More than twenty years after leaving Duke University, Mike Gminski's name remains prominent in the illustrious basketball program's record books. The former two-time All-American remains the Blue Devil's all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker, and third-leading scorer. But when his collegiate playing days ended, the 6-11 center also enjoyed an outstanding 14-year NBA career, and is one of only a handful of pro players to score more than 10,000 points and haul in more than 6,000 rebounds. The great-grandson of a Polish immigrant from Karkow, Mike Gminski was born on August 3, 1959, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He grew up in nearby Monroe, where he attended Masur High School. Encouraged by his parents, Mike played tennis, baseball and football, and developed into one of the state's best high school basketball players. He was also a very good student — so good that he was able to leave high school a year early, a fact that most college recruiters overlooked. Mike struck up a friendship with a Duke player named Terry Chili at a basketball camp, and decided to make the Durham, North Carolina school his first visit after his sophomore year. He “fell in love with the campus” and committed to the Blue Devils. At Duke, head coach Bill Foster was trying to rebuild the program that had not been to the NCAA tournament in more than a decade. It became apparent very early that his freshman center could help him do just that. In his first season Gminski averaged 15.3 points and 10.7 rebounds for the 14-13 Blue Devils, and was named Atlantic Coast Conference 1976-77 co-rookie of the year. As a sophomore Mike averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds, earning first-team All-ACC honors. Even better, the Blue Devils posted its first of three straight 20-plus win seasons. Duke also won the ACC tournament for the first time since 1966, and made the NCAA tournament field. Mike had an excellent tournament, including a 29-point performance against Notre Dame in the semi-finals. The Cinderella Blue Devils made it all the way to the 1978 national championship game, where they battled valiantly but lost to Kentucky, 94-88. Mike had 20 points and 12 rebounds in the game, and was named to the All-NCAA Final Four team. As a junior Mike had an incredible season, leading Duke in scoring (18.8), rebounding (9.2), blocked shots (66), dunks (44), and field goal shooting (51.9%). He earned All-American honors and was named ACC Player of the Year. Duke complied a 22-8 mark and qualified for the NCAA tournament, but lost in the first round to St. John's. In the 1979-80 season the talented center was again a first team All-American, posting career highs in scoring (21.3), and rebounding (10.9). Mike also set a school single-season record for blocks with 97. His senior season also marked the third time that the history major was named an Academic All-American. That season Duke struggled down the stretch amid rumors that head Coach Foster would leave following the season. The Devils were seeded sixth for the ACC tournament and had little hope of landing an NCAA bid unless they won it. Duke responded by beating the top three seeds and winning the ACC crown. Duke advanced to the regional quarterfinal of the NCAA tournament before losing to Purdue. Gminski ended his collegiate career with numerous school records, and still holds Duke's career records for rebounds (1,242) and blocked shots (345), and is third in scoring (2,323 points). His jersey, number 43, was retired by Duke shortly after he left the school, and he was later inducted into the Duke Sports Hall of Fame. “G-man” was then selected in the NBA drafts first round (7th overall) by the New Jersey Nets. Gminski helped revive the struggling Nets, who made the playoffs in five of his seven seasons. He displayed a consistently outstanding all-around game, and was particularly known for his shooting touch. In fact, in four of his NBA seasons he hit better than 50 percent of his shots from the field. Gminski came into the league at about 240 pounds, but bulked up to as much as 270 pounds. Following his rookie season in New Jersey, Mike contracted a serious infection in his back after having surgery on an injured elbow. He was in critical condition for three days with a 105-degree temperature before doctors were finally able to successfully control the infection. His weight fell from 265 pounds to 215 pounds during his hospital stay. Mike was traded by the Nets in 1987, after enjoying one of his best seasons (16.4 points per game, 8.8 rebounds per game). He was among New Jersey's all-time leaders in several categories. He was second in games played (550), third in minutes (13,638), rebounds (3,671) and blocks (599), and fourth in points (6,415). Gminski went to Philadelphia, where he continued to excel. In his first season (1987-88) with the 76ers he averaged a “double-double”, with 16.9 points and 10 rebounds (along with 118 blocked shots). The following season Mike enjoyed his highest scoring average (17.2) as a pro as the 76ers won the Atlantic Division with a 53-29 record, but lost in the playoffs to Chicago. Those 76ers teams were among the best that Mike played on in the NBA, but he enjoyed the camaraderie as much as the winning. “The closeness of the players reminded me of my teams at Duke,” he recalled. In 1990 Mike was dealt to the Charlotte Hornets, an expansion franchise in its third year in the NBA. He has had a good first season upon his return to the state of North Carolina, but suffered a herniated disk. Injuries began to take their toll, and in 1994 he was traded to Milwaukee for Frank Brickowski in what was basically a salary move. Not wanting to become a “basketball vagabond” jumping from team to team, Gminski accepted an offer from the Charlotte Hornets to join their broadcast team. He stayed there for eight years, until the franchise moved to New Orleans, and then Mike joined the Fox Sports Net telecast team as a lead analyst. He lives in North Carolina with his wife, Stacey Anderson, and their son, Noah. Gminski continues to receive recognition for his athletic achievements. Last year he was named to the ACC 50th anniversary team. He also was named to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. He was also chosen as one of a group of 25 finalists for induction into the Verizon Academic All-American Hall of Fame. While Mike Gminski is widely considered one of college basketball's greatest players, he certainly does not receive his due as a professional athlete. He was not a flashy player who drew headlines on or off the court, but Gminski's career totals are quite impressive. They include 10,953 points, 6,480 rebounds and 989 blocked shots. He was skilled in all facets of the game, and was a well-linked and respected teammate wherever he played.

BIO Former record-setting University of Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt is FOX Sports' lead college football game analyst, sitting alongside play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson and reporter Jenny Taft. In 2020, he served as the network's lead XFL analyst, working with play-by-play announcer Curt Menefee. Klatt also provides analysis leading up to and during the NFL Draft. Considered one of the most productive players to have ever played the quarterback position at Colorado, Klatt joined the program as a preferred walk-on in 2002 and set 44 school records as the Buffaloes' starter from 2003-05. He became only the third player in school history to throw for more than 2,500 yards in his first season as a starter at Colorado, racking up 2,614 yards and 21 touchdowns. Klatt finished his Colorado career as the school's all-time leader in passing yards (7,375), touchdowns (44), competition percentage (60.8) and completions (666). His 44 school records were the second-most by a Colorado student-athlete in any sport behind Byron “Whizzer” White, who set 51 as a halfback from 1934-37. Klatt is the rare analyst who can lay claim to having been a professional in two major sports. His college football career was initially delayed after he made a post-high school journey into professional baseball. Selected by the San Diego Padres in the 11th round of the 2000 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, Klatt played two seasons in the club's minor league system before retiring from the sport to pursue a career on the gridiron at CU. Following his graduation from Colorado, he was invited to the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints rookie mini-camps in 2006, and was signed as a free agent by the Saints. Klatt's first opportunity in broadcasting came when he filled in as an analyst on Friday night high school football games in the Denver area in the fall of 2006 for FOX Sports Rocky Mountain. Shortly thereafter, he became a studio host for FOX Sports Southwest's Saturday college football coverage from 2007-08 and parlayed his aptitude in that setting into a package of college games as a color analyst for FOX Sports Net in 2009. Back in Denver, Klatt called upon his baseball experience to serve as host for Colorado Rockies pre- and postgame shows on Root Sports Rocky Mountain. He also hosted a series of sports radio shows in the Denver area from 2007-12, including a popular program on the FM station 104.3 The Fan from 2011-12. He left the Denver area in 2013 when he joined FS1 for its August launch. Klatt spent his first two seasons with FS1 and the FOX broadcast network as a full-time studio analyst for the network's college football coverage, host of FOX NFL KICKOFF, and part-time game analyst, primarily working Thursday night contests on FS1 as well as the 2014 Pac-12 Championship Game on FOX. Prior to the 2015 season, Klatt was elevated to FOX Sports' lead college football game analyst, teaming with play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson. Showing impressive versatility, he also contributed to FOX Sports' coverage of the U.S. Open Championship from 2015-19. Born in Denver, Klatt is married to Sara, and they have three sons.  Klatt attended Pomona High School in Arvada, Colo., lettering all four years in baseball, basketball and football.  He earned a B.A. in economics from Colorado and later served as the president of “Buffs For Life,” a non-associated alumni association that raised money for former CU athletes with a financial need. Residing in Newport Beach, Calif., Klatt enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.
