We'll discuss Rudd and Ortega's standout performances, the mix of horror and dark comedy, and the film's underlying commentary on corporate corruption, greed, and exploitation. Is this the next great A24 cult classic — or just a mythical misfire? Find out as we analyze one of the strangest and boldest horror-fantasy films of the year.

Writer-Director Adrian Ortega's Westgate follows Netta (Sarah Nicolazzo) and her son Julian (Max Nappo) as she embarks on a torturous day of navigating hospitals, family, cultural prejudices, and more, all as she faces the threat of eviction and the ever rising debts that keep her and her son trapped in a class struggle. This is a film written from a lived-in perspective, with Adrian pulling from his own life to craft a tale that acts as an ode to mothers and the children they raised. In the following interview, recorded ahead of Westgate's appearance at SXSW Sydney on 17 October 2025, Adrian, Sarah, and Max talk about the collaborative approach to making this Melbourne based drama. Sarah and Max talk about learning from Adrian and his mother, as well as the bonding techniques they used to help strengthen that mother-son relationship that comes across so strongly on screen.Read Nadine Whitney's review of Westgate here and follow the film on Instagram here to be kept up to date regarding future screening dates.

Escuchar audio

Description: Preparing to Thrive: Supporting Learners with Disabilities Through the Undergraduate-to-Graduate Medical Education Transition This episode of Stories Behind the Science brings you an intimate conversation with Dr. Zoie Sheets (University of Chicago) and Dr. Nalinda Charnsangavej (Dell Medical School, UT Austin), co-authors of Preparing to Thrive, part of the Academic Medicine supplement on Disability Inclusion in Undergraduate Medical Education. We go beyond the article to uncover the motivations, lived experiences, and research that shaped their scholarship. Together, we explore four critical decision points that can shape the trajectory of disabled medical students as they move from UME to GME: Disclosure decisions Specialty selection Program selection Requesting and utilizing accommodations in residency Zoie and Nalinda share how research, mentorship, and community informed their work, and why bridging this “black box” transition period is essential for cultivating a more inclusive profession. Whether you're a program director, DRP, advisor, or student, this episode offers insights and concrete strategies to ensure learners are not just surviving this pivotal transition—but thriving. Resources and links to the open-access article, Disability Resource Hub, and related tools are in the show notes. Her current work focuses on the transition from medical school to residency training and how to support learners with disabilities during this critical transition period. Outside of medical education, she enjoys spending time with her family, teaching her children how to cook, and attending Texas Longhorn sporting events. Zoie C. Sheets, MD, MPH is a resident physician in internal medicine and pediatrics (Med/Peds) at the University of Chicago. She is also a leader within the Docs with Disabilities Initiative, serving as Co-Chair of the Disability in Graduate Medical Education group and Co-Chair of the UME to GME Transitions Committee for the creation of a Disability Resource Hub — a collaboration between ACGME and DWDI. She believes deeply that increasing the number of disabled clinicians can transform medical education and practice, for providers and patients alike. Her current research focus centers on how graduate medical education can best support learners with disabilities, particularly during the challenging transition out of UME. In her free time, Zoie loves to read, re-watch too many medical dramas, and play with her two cats! Claribel Ortega returns to her much beloved middle grade series Witchlings with the fourth book, SCEPTER OF MEMORIES. In this new book, evil dwells in Ravenskill and it's up to the Spares to prevent it from taking over. Seven, Thorn, and Valley are determined to stop Ambert Lophiifor's plan of taking over the Twelve Towns. With Seven's Uncle powers and their new coven behind them, surely they'll be able to defeat him at last. But strange things are happening around Ravenskill—the Witchlings' allies are starting to forget them! When the Witchlings are charged with the crime of practicing unnatural and dangerous magic, no one is there to come to their defense. Without any support, the Witchlings are forced to flee beyond the borders of the Twelve Towns and into the swirling grey mists of the Enchanted Grim, hoping to find the one witch who might have the knowledge and power to help them: Delphinium Larkspur. The Grim is an uncharted wilderness filled with monstruos, where no normal witch would ever be able to survive. But there's nothing normal about the Witchlings, their courage, or their friendship. Together with their Nightbeasts, they are determined to find a way to save their home. Even if it means embracing the monstruos within themselves.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

What do you do when the man who once slid into your DMs ends up becoming your husband? If you're Kiara Liz Ortega, you marry him in Ireland at the actual P.S. I Love You bridge, wear a black diamond ring, and then laugh years later about the fact that yes—technically—you married your stalker. In this unfiltered, hilarious, and heart-tugging episode, the former Miss Universe Puerto Rico and star of The Bay opens up with Pol' Atteu and Patrik Simpson about everything from red-carpet disasters to her chaotic globe-trotting honeymoon. Imagine this: France, Italy, Qatar (during missile strikes, no less), the Maldives, Egypt, and Spain—all in just a few weeks. Kiara dishes on luxury bungalows, underwater hotels, driving through Spain like locals, and the surreal moment of almost canceling a trip because bombs were flying overhead. But the glamour didn't come without the drama. From falling down studio stairs mid-shoot (and her husband casually saying “I'll call you tomorrow” at 3 a.m.) to navigating soap opera storylines covered in blood yet dressed in couture, Kiara keeps the laughs rolling. She reveals how she hid her gowns from fellow pageant girls to avoid sabotage, walked a stage with mismatched shoes, survived zippers breaking right before a red carpet, and even flashed the wrong underwear during finals night—all while keeping her crown intact. Fashion lovers will swoon over the Runway Rundown details of her emerald gown designed by Pol' Atteu, a dress that somehow looked breathtaking even while she was dodging soap-opera gunfire. Meanwhile, Pol' and Patrik roast her kitchen skills, insisting she looked like she'd never seen a stove while filming, which Kiara blames entirely on her character, Dre Collins Castro. And then the tone shifts. The much-anticipated coffee reading uncovers something deeper—a snow globe from Hollywood she must keep close to anchor her balance, a wish from childhood she's still carrying, and the undeniable pull between financial stability and her true passion: acting. Vulnerable and raw, Kiara admits she longs to represent Puerto Rico not just with a crown, but with her craft, her voice, and her heart. She recalls the resilience of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, where strangers pushed each other's cars in endless gas lines, laughter breaking through despair. For Kiara, that memory fuels her drive: to keep representing her island proudly in every project she takes on. By the end, we've laughed at the absurd (duct tape as a fashion savior), swooned over romance (a whirlwind proposal just four months in), gasped at the near disasters (missiles in Qatar, broken gowns, chaotic commutes), and sat in awe as Kiara shared the most mystical moment of all—the coffee cup confirming a wish she's carried since she was ten years old. This isn't just a podcast episode. It's a full ride: pageant sabotage, stalker-turned-husband romance, international honeymoon chaos, couture breakdowns, and a mystical glimpse at the future. Kiara Liz Ortega proves she's more than a queen—she's a survivor, a storyteller, and a Puerto Rican star who's just getting started. So grab your coffee, buckle up, and prepare to be undressed in the best way possible. UFC Shanghai is in the books, and while some things certainly happened that were newsworthy, the two biggest storylines came from the final two fights, including Brian Ortega's rough 48 hour stretch from his chaotic weigh in, to his performance against Aljamain Sterling in a lopsided five-round loss. Where does "T-City" go next, and could it be to a promotion outside of the UFC? On an all-new edition of Between the Links, the panel discusses the fallout from the UFC's most recent Fight Night event, what happens with Ortega next, what Sterling gains from the biggest win of his featherweight run, and Johnny Walker stopping Mingyang Zhang in the main event. Additionally, topics may include Saturday's Misfits Boxing 22 event, which features Darren Till vs. Luke Rockhold, Tony Ferguson vs. Salt Papi, and Dillon Danis in an MMA fight, the Raja Jackson — the son of Rampage Jackson — incident in the pro wrestling world, and much more. Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell are live in the studio to break down the biggest news coming out of UFC Shanghai. First up, Johnny Walker rallied to stop Zhang Mingyang in the light heavyweight main event. At 33, did Walker show you any legitimate signs that the best run of his career could be right around the corner? The UFC Shanghai co-main featured Aljamain Sterling shutting out Brian Ortega. With a 2-1 record since moving up to 145 pounds, does Sterling have any leverage at all to ask for a title shot following this performance? In the UFC Shanghai undercard, Sergei Pavlovich outpointed Waldo Cortes-Acosta to keep pace near the top of the heavyweight rankings. Given the extreme lack of depth in the division, is there still one more run to a UFC title shot in the card for Pavlovich moving forward?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The UFC's return to Shanghai is officially in the books, and the event ended with Johnny Walker pulling off a big upset in the main event, and a former bantamweight champion making a case for a title shot in a second division. Where do both fighters go from their big wins? Following Saturday's UFC Shanghai event, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and E. Casey Leydon react to the card, Walker's stunning second-round TKO win over Zhang Mingyang, Walker's callout of Jan Blachowicz, and discuss what could be next for Zhang after suffering his first UFC loss. Additionally, topics include Aljamain Sterling's lopsided win over Brian Ortega in the co-main event, where Sterling is in the title conversation, if we just saw Ortega's final fight in the UFC, other standout moments, and much more.
