Never Have I Ever is the podcast where Claire Byrne explores things she's never done by talking to people who have. This week, she enters the world of wigs, make-up, high heels, and larger-than-life characters. What does it feel like to transform yourself completely? To step into someone else's clothes, adopt a different persona and perform it in front of thousands of people? In episode two, Claire meets actor and drama teacher Rob Murphy, who every Christmas becomes one of Ireland's best-known panto dames – Buffy. Together, they explore the magic of performance, the freedom that comes with becoming somebody else, and how dressing up sometimes reveals more about who you really are. Rob reflects on growing up as a gay teenager in an all-boys school, counting down the days until Friday night when he could finally sing and twirl alongside the girls. And the big question: can Rob persuade Claire to put on the wig and become someone else for a night? Email: never@newstalk.com Aladdin – a Sammy & Buffy Adventure, starring Alan Hughes and Rob Murphy, runs from 8th Dec 2026 – 3rd Jan 2027 at the National Stadium in Dublin. Welcome to "We Need To Talk About Mayo" - a brand new series on the Mayo Football Podcast. There is often an obsession with who the next Mayo manager will be, something we are witnessing right now. We feel that is but one part of the jigsaw and that now is an ideal time to step back and look at the wider picture relating to Mayo GAA.This involves thinking about things like structures, coaching, people, money and the bricks and mortar. In this podcast series we aim to dive into the issues that have the potential to shape the future of the game in Mayo and to ask the questions grassroots volunteers tell us do not often get the time of day.Over the coming weeks, we'll shine a light on those areas that seem to be working well and those on which honest reflection is needed. Most people working at the coalface of Mayo GAA do so with the best of intentions but any organisation which has had repeated issues cropping up needs introspection and to ask itself how can things be done better. What can we learn from the past to improve our decision-making on current issues? At its heart, this podcast series is about a shared ambition in us all: success for Mayo football across the board off the back of a thriving, purposeful, cohesive GAA community.Whether you're spilling out footballs for a training session, lacing up the boots for your next game, painting the dressing rooms, chairing the meetings, driving the county's roads with a car full of future Mayo hopefuls or trekking through the local pub on a Saturday night with a lotto book in hand and tickets to sell, this is a conversation for you!Everyone who cares deeply about the Green and Red and the great game of Gaelic football in Mayo, everyone who cares about the long-term viability of communities that express themselves through the sport and yes, whisper it, everyone who shares the elusive dream of one day seeing Mayo lift Sam for the fourth time. This is a conversation for you!Over the last few weeks, series co-producers Rob Murphy and Edwin McGreal have been speaking to dozens of people with a huge amount of collective knowledge, insight and experience about what they feel are the issues that most need addressing and where the potential for improvement lies. We've broken these topics into four main categories - coaching, infrastructure, governance and culture. On Easter Sunday 2015, experienced skydiver and new mum Victoria Cilliers undertook a parachute jump, a gift from her husband, British army sergeant Emile Cilliers. Send us a textToday we are traveling across the pond to England to speak to Author, Award-Winning Journalist, and Television Producer Robert Murphy and Retired British Police Officer Michelle Leonard. Ron Evans, aka, The Clifton Rapist, had been arrested and convicted of raping and killing a young woman but only served 10 years in prison. In 1979, when he was released from prison, he went back to his criminal behavior and raped at least 7 young women eluding the police for several years. There was an incredible public outcry for the police to capture this maniac. In complete secrecy, a daring new plan was introduced, unlike anything previously attempted by a UK police force. A small group of young female officers – some just 18 – put their lives on the line, walking the quiet residential roads late at night, acting as bait until one fateful night The Clifton Rapist attacked Undercover Police Officer Michelle Leonard who was acting as a decoy. Please enjoy this incredible story told by the police officer who lived it and the journalist who wrote the book and produced the movie, Decoy: The gripping true crime story of one of Britain's most shocking and secretive historical undercover police operations. In today's episode we discuss:· How Michelle got interested in police work.· How many years she was in the police force when she was approached to become a decoy. · Bristol 1979 being a safe area before the Clifton Rapist started his one-man crime wave. · How the British police force investigated sexual crimes back then without the aid of modern science.· What it was like for Michelle when this homicidal manic attempted to assault her.· Robert Murphy's interest in the case and the book he wrote and the documentary he made depicting this case. All of this and more on today's episode of the Cops and Writers podcast. Please visit Robert's website to learn more about him, Michelle, and his work.Check out the new Cops and Writers YouTube channel!Check out my newest book, The Good Collar (Michael Quinn Vigilante Justice Series Book 1)!!!!!Enjoy the Cops and Writers book series. Please visit the Cops and Writers website.Support the show

Laura analyses Ronald Evan's behaviour and Rob Murphy reveals something shared by Michelle Leonard, the undercover police officer who caught him and how his 2022 documentary about Ronald Evans helped catch 81-year-old Evans once more. Police arrested Evans the day after the documentary was broadcast. As she jailed Evans for four years last November, the judge said: "The risk you pose to women is significant. The combination of your history and continuing sexual interest underlies my concern you are a risk of serious sexual harm to women." 83-year-old Evans is back before the Parole Board in October 2024. Twice a Parole Board took the decision to release Ronald Evans early. Will women be put at risk a third time? Laura and Rob discuss the harrowing and unbelievable details of the horrific 1963 rape/murder of 21-year-old Kathleen Heathcote. Despite Ronald Evans receiving a life sentence for this offence, Evans was moved to an open prison in Bristol after 10 years and released. Evans re-married and he began targeting and raping women. Following an undercover operation codenamed Operation Argus, he was arrested and charged with five of the sexual assaults. He received a nine-year sentence. In 2018 he was released in North London where he switched up his MO and started targeting women once more. How many chances do male rapists and murderers of women get?
