Dave strives to take his 'friendship' with Claire Byrne to the next level!
Eileen Magnier spent 35 years as RTE's North west correspondent, and in that time she covered an incredible number of stories of all different kinds. It was a job that she loved, but it was also very demanding and unpredictable in nature. Sometimes Eileen would have to report on incredibly tragic stories like the Creeslough explosion in co Donegal in 2022, in which 10 people died. This was a part of the job that Eileen took very seriously, as it is so important to cover these stories sympathetically and accurately, and with consideration to those left behind. The physical and emotional toll of the work, after over three decades, was starting to become very apparent to Eileen and so, just over a year ago, she decided to retire and today, she says she has never felt so healthy, so free, and so energised. In this episode Eileen and I have a fascinating chat about her almost four decades at the frontlines of public service news, the various factors that prompted her to make that very big decision to retire, and the amazing things that she has been doing since retirement.COMEDY - when some of Eileen's former colleagues in RTE spotted her walking in the doors of Marconi House to record this interview, they thought she might be 'doing a Claire Byrne' and the Mario Rosenstock Podcast hotline started buzzing!!Produced by Patrick Haughey, AudioBrand
The news that Claire Byrne will become a colleague in the New Year has Dave very excited!

We are so happy to have resident heartbreak coach for POOSH and newly engaged, Claire Byrne, our favorite relationship expert, back on the pod to discuss her recent engagement, why she and her fiance did a lot of planning before he popped the question, why this worked for them and which other types of couples could benefit form this kind of preparation, how to know if you're ready before any planning begins, why Claire felt it was important to be transparent about her unique proposal experience, and how she is letting go of the judgment that came after the question! We chat through the homecoming of the women of the world cup, the propsed sex-for-rent ban, and two of the wildest stories we've ever discussed.I felt like it was important to take some time to talk about Sinead O'Connor as there was no podcast last week. I've loved reading Una Mullally's writing about Sinead in the Irish Times over the years along with her recent piece for the New York Times, so was grateful she was up for chatting. I was particularly grateful to her for the reminder she gives at the end of our chat. Esther O'Moore Donohoe and I chatted through the week's entertainment stories, including what is going on with Lizzo, Ariana's new relationship, as well as the impact of social media trolling on Claire Byrne's exit from the race to be presenter of the Late Late Show.Recommendations:Aisling Ever After by Emer McLysaght and Sarah BreenThe List by Yomi Adegoke To support the podcast and access additional episodes check out the Patreon here.Get tickets for my show at the Cork Podcast Festival here.
