It's been quite a week in Parliament. Workplace Relations Minister Brooke van Velden dropped the c-word, quoting a controversial opinion piece by Andrea Vance. Meanwhile, the Te Pati Maori co-leaders were suspended for 21 days and yesterday Labour MP Willie Jackson was booted from the house. How low have the standards of behaviour dropped in our Parliament? Also, a single Wellington bus lane enforcement camera on Cambridge Terrace has made nearly $800,000 in just two months, with thousands being stung. Is this about enforcement or revenue gathering? To answer those questions, Upper Hutt mayor Wayne Guppy and former Wellington mayor Dame Kerry Prendergast joined Nick Mills for Friday Faceoff. Following a period of uncertainty (line-up changes and COVID-inspired roadblocks), Bury Tomorrow have spent the past few years laying out new paths with new possibilities previously thought unavailable resulting in a reinvigorated belief and fresh outlook on what the band can encompass. Now, they present ‘Will You Haunt Me with That Same Patience', their brand-new album, out now via Music for Nations / Sony Music UK. This isn't the best Bury Tomorrow album to date, in my opinion, but it's a mighty fine Bury Tomorrow album none the less. Whereas The Seventh Sun (2023) was them finding their feet following the significant line-up change, this is them in a brash and confident mood, emphatically reminding listeners of their metalcore prowess, while experimenting with more cleans and electronica than ever before. This album is good, and what it does is confirm that it's time to stop talking about who Bury Tomorrow were, and focus on what they are focusing on, the future. It's looking very, very bright. Read the full album review here: https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-bury-tomorrow-will-you-haunt-me-with-that-same-patience-music-for-nations-sony-music-uk/ We had the pleasure of speaking with clean vocalist and keyboardist Tom Prendergast about the new album and all the hard work that has gone into it. Tory Whanau's shock U-turn not to run for the Wellington mayoralty again marks three consecutive one-term mayors for the capital. Whanau has this morning revealed she's dropping out of the race, saying she wants to give Andrew Little a clearer run to victory. It means Whanau, along with the two previous mayors Andy Foster and Justin Lester, only served one term in the job. Former Mayor Dame Kerry Prendergast told Mike Hosking that's bad for the city, which needs stability. Tory Whanau will stand for the city's Māori ward. When critics hinted Maurice Prendergast was getting a little repetitive as he approached 50, he could've hung up his brushes. After all, he'd been pretty successful. Instead, he headed back to where it all began--Paris--and came away reinvigorated with “a new impulse,” as he called it. Today's episode takes us to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC. We'll find out how an idea that started with Congress just before the Depression led to an official modern art museum on the National Mall! The lads are on great form after a cracking weekend of Six Nations ruggers. They were at Allianz stadium for England v France, so they chat about the electric atmosphere and break down an England win in the context of the tournament, but also in terms of the Borthwick and Itoje eras — we also look at whether Finn Smith has cemented himself as the 10 over Marcus. We cover Ireland's impressive performance in Scotland as Prendergast continues his march as Sexton's successor. Jim gives his take on what it means for Scotland going into a huge game against England. Meanwhile, Italy's well-managed win over Wales shows a new maturity, but also surely spells the end for Gatland. Plus, Joe Schmidt's exit from Australia leads to speculation and some big names putting their names forward for the Wallabies gig.
