Samory I - "Outside (feat. Lila Iké)" from the 2023 album Strength on Overstand Entertainment / Easy Star Records Kingston, Jamaica-based artist Samory-Tour Frazer — who records as Samory I — celebrates his progeny on his debut solo album, Strength.  "It represents the struggles I've overcome, both mentally and physically," the roots reggae vocalist says in a press release, "and is also a representation of my son, who is my driving force behind this album." (His baby boy is featured with his proud papa on the cover art of the new album.) Today's Song of the Day features guest vocals from fellow Jamaican artist Lila Iké, who adds, “I have been waiting for this collaboration since 2016 when I moved to Kingston and my next-door neighbor was blasting unreleased songs from Samory I. The reverence in his voice captured me immediately, and I've been a fan since. I can't wait for people to hear and feel the power in his sound. En Guinée, les autorités ont annoncé la date du procès du massacre du 28 septembre 2009. L'ouverture de ce procès historique aura lieu pour le 13e anniversaire des événements, le 28 septembre prochain. En 2009, ils étaient des milliers à s'être réunis dans un stade à l'appel de l'opposition, pour rejeter l'idée d'une candidature de Moussa Dadis Camara à l'élection présidentielle. Le rassemblement est réprimé dans le sang. Au moins 157 personnes sont assassinées et 109 femmes violées. L'opposant Cellou Dalein Diallo fait partie des leaders politiques qui étaient dans le stade avec leurs militants. Treize ans plus tard, il salue l'ouverture de ce procès tout en espérant qu'il ne fera pas l'objet d'une instrumentalisation politique. RFI : Le procès du massacre du 28 septembre 2009 est sur le point de commencer. Vous étiez, vous-même, dans le stade ce jour-là. De nombreux militants de votre parti ont été victimes de la furie des hommes en uniforme. Comment accueillez-vous l'annonce de cette ouverture du procès ? Cellou Dalein Diallo : J'étais bien au stade. J'ai été laissé pour mort sur la pelouse. J'ai été récupéré et transporté au camp Samory, à l'infirmerie, où j'ai repris conscience. Je me réjouis, bien entendu, que ce procès tant attendu, puisse se tenir maintenant pour que les victimes aient droit à la vérité et à la justice. Je pense que toutes les dispositions vont être prises pour que le droit soit dit. Il y a beaucoup de rumeurs qui circulent en Guinée, des craintes que la justice ne soit instrumentalisée, à cette occasion aussi, pour condamner dans la même foulée les organisateurs de la manifestation et les auteurs ou commanditaires des crimes commis. Cette inquiétude existe. Cette rumeur, je souhaite vivement qu'elle ne soit pas fondée et que le droit soit dit, qu'un discernement, soit fait entre les victimes et les bourreaux, et que seulement les bourreaux soient sanctionnés. L'État a les moyens de marquer sa compassion avec les victimes À quelles conditions ce procès pourra-t-il être une réussite selon vous ? Si effectivement le droit à la vérité, le droit à la justice et, peut-être, le droit à la réparation sont assurés pour les victimes. Les gens qui ont agi, ont agi au nom de l'État. L'État a les moyens, justement, de marquer sa compassion avec les victimes en envisageant des solutions qui peuvent être assimilées à une réparation. ►À lire aussi : Procès du 28-Septembre en Guinée: qui sera présent sur le banc des accusés ? La justice sera-t-elle suffisante pour que cette page-là soit tournée, si elle peut être tournée ? Nous avons besoin d'aller à un exercice de réconciliation. Il y a eu beaucoup de violences, il n'y a pas eu que le 28 septembre. Avant, il y en a eu et surtout, après. Sous le régime d'Alpha Condé, il y a eu 250 jeunes qui ont été abattus, souvent à bout portant lors de manifestations. Ils n'ont pas eu, non plus, droit à la justice. Je pense que, pour qu'il n'y ait plus jamais ça, il est important que les Guinéens se retrouvent. Lorsqu'il y aura des institutions légitimes, parce qu'il faudrait envisager de prendre des lois d'amnistie qui ne peuvent être que le fait d'une assemblée élue. Vous souhaitez la mise en place d'institutions légitimes en Guinée. Cela fait plusieurs mois que vous n'êtes pas revenu sur le sol guinéen. Vous considérez-vous aujourd'hui comme un exilé ? Je ne suis pas rassuré quant à l'indépendance de la justice. La manière dont elle a géré deux dossiers me concernant a aggravé, vraiment, mes préoccupations quant à l'indépendance de la justice. Il y a eu l'affaire de ma maison, qui a été réduite en poussière alors que le dossier était à la justice. Ensuite, le dossier d'Air Guinée où l'on m'attribue la responsabilité d'avoir, non seulement, décidé de la liquidation d'Air Guinée et de la vente de ses actifs alors que, tout le monde le sait, le ministère de Transports, que je dirigeais, n'a pas participé. Ce sont ces deux affaires qui font que vous ne rentrez pas en Guinée aujourd'hui ? Ces deux affaires me font douter quant à l'indépendance de la justice. Je pense que l'on a voulu instrumentaliser la justice pour me faire mal ou pour, sans doute, me disqualifier des prochaines échéances électorales. J'ai l'intention de rentrer en Guinée Êtes-vous en exil actuellement ? Non, pas du tout. J'ai l'intention de rentrer en Guinée. Je voulais simplement avoir les gages que la justice dira le droit et rien que le droit. On parle beaucoup, justement, en Guinée pour le moment, du climat politique. Le gouvernement affiche sa volonté de relance du dialogue. L'Anad, la coalition que vous dirigez, est-elle prête à saisir cette nouvelle main tendue ? Nous sommes demandeurs du dialogue. Nous considérons qu'il est urgent d'aller à l'organisation des élections pour mettre en place des institutions légitimes. Mais jusqu'à présent, dans tous les dialogues qu'il y a eu, on n'a pas abordé ces questions. On va parler de refondation de l'État, de réconciliation nationale, de recensement général de la population. Today we're joined by Samory Kpotufe, an associate professor at Columbia University and program chair of the 2021 Conference on Learning Theory (COLT).  In our conversation with Samory, we explore his research at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and learning theory, and his goal of reaching self-tuning, adaptive algorithms. We discuss Samory's research in transfer learning and other potential procedures that could positively affect transfer, as well as his work understanding unsupervised learning including how clustering could be applied to real-world applications like cybersecurity, IoT (Smart homes, smart city sensors, etc) using methods like dimension reduction, random projection, and others. DiscographyHis recording career has also taken great strides with him recording his first single for AJANG Records ‘Just Believe'. He has also recorded a few tracks with renowned producer Niney The Observer. This allowed him the distinct honor of working with ace musicians the likes of Sly Dunbar, the late Style Scott, Errol ‘Flabba' Holt, Dalton Brownie, Dean Fraser and Nambo Robinson to name a few. He is presently in studio with Rory Stone Love recording his debut album on the Black Dub label. Both producer and artiste are excited about this project. Tracks on the album include ‘Take Me Oh Jah', ‘Rasta No Gangsta'. The first single to be released in December 2014 is entitled ‘African Queen'. The launch for this will coincide with the RJR Groups Kingston Music Week. The sky is the limit for this talented lyricist and singer.In 2017, Samory I made himself a household name in the Reggae World.  In July 2017 the talented youth released “Black Gold.”  A studio LP Produced by RoryStoneLove /Black Dub.  The album received rave reviews and featured singles such as “Rasta Nuh Gangsta,” “Black Gold,” “Son of David and many more.
