Samson uproots the gates of Gaza, and then falls for Delilah, and the drama begins....
This week's Deadpod continues our visit to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, as we present the second set from May 8, 1981. After last week's well‑played opening set, the band comes out strong here with a big "Shakedown Street" into "Samson and Delilah," then digs deep with "Terrapin Station" flowing into a wide‑open "Playin' in the Band" and on through Drums and Space. Ken Kesey even joins in on harmonica during Space and the "U.S. Blues" encore, adding a unique extra flavor to the proceedings. The home stretch features a fiery "Not Fade Away," a beautiful "Stella Blue," and a rousing "Sugar Magnolia," capped by that "U.S. Blues" encore that feels just right for this time of year. Judges 16:23-31 // Gabe CoyleIn this sermon, we look at the final moments of Samson's life within the temple of Dagon. We discuss the irony of the Philistines celebrating a victory they credited to a false god, while the true source of Samson's power prepared for one final display of justice. We analyze the layout of the temple, the significance of the two central pillars, and Samson's prayer for strength. Through this study, we see how God can use even a flawed and fallen leader to bring about his will, showing that his power is made perfect in weakness and that he remains faithful to his word even when his servants have stumbled.SERMON NOTES (YouVersion): https://bible.com/events/49594463 PRAYER REQUESTS: https://ccefc.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/2509/responses/new26.04.19

There is much for us to learn from Samson's final chapter which is one of the most tragic and memorable stories in the entire Old Testament.
This week's Deadpod brings us the second set from the band's performance in Long Beach California on December 14, 1980. This is a fine high-energy set, punctuated by guest appearances by Fora Purim, Airto and Matthew Kelly but full of outstanding renditions of some classic numbers. I am always pleasantly surprised when I get a 'Must Have Been the Roses' and really enjoy this one. This is followed by a screaming 'Estimated Prophet'. This leads into the heart of the set, a great 'Wheel' going into an amazing Drums/Space then flowing into a otherwordly 'Other One'. This combination is really special. This leads into an emotional 'Stella Blue' then the boys ramp it up again with the rocking set closing 'Around and Around' into 'Good Lovin' .. a 'Brokedown Palace' is a perfect encore after this musical performance.. Grateful Dead Long Beach Arena Long Beach, CA 12/14/1980 - Sunday Two Cold Rain And Snow [6:31] > Samson And Delilah [6:38] ; It Must Have Been The Roses ; Estimated Prophet [10:44] > The Wheel [8:24] > Drums (2) > The Other One [11:51] > Stella Blue > Around And Around (1) > Good Lovin' Encore Brokedown Palace (1) with Matthew Kelly (2) with Flora Purim and Airto You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod121925.mp3 As we travel through this holiday season I hope this finds you and yours healthy, happy and at peace. my thanks
http://deadshow.blogspot.com This week here on the Deadpod is a fine second set from the band's show over in London England on October 4, 1981. I'm sure you'll agree that this is a fine performance by the boys.. Some of the highlights are a smokin' Samson and Delilah, the jam between Scarlet and Fire, and an interesting 'Lost Sailor'. Drums is notable for the 'Spanish Jam' leading into a fine 'Other One'. All this is captured in a fine recording.. We look at the downfall of Samson.
Send us a textIn this episode we uncover the intricate dynamics between a mighty man brought low by his own vulnerabilities (WOMEN) and a cunning woman whose name echoes through history as a symbol of deceit. This week's Deadpod features the second set from the band's performance at the Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte, NC on October 10, 1989. A good example, I think, of why this was a high water mark in the band's performance history, this second set showcases their ability to improvise both in spots intended and unintended. The latter I think, is shown in the opening 'Blow Away', which despite some forgotten lyrics and miscues turns into a fine opening number. The jamming in the 'Help>Slip>Frank', especially out of Franklins' and into a fine drums, is an example of some more expected, but nevertheless, successful creativity. Lastly I have to point out how good 'Not Fade Away is here.. far from being mailed in... Why was this story so infamous?
Chapter 16 in the Book of Judges is the great story of Samson and Delilah. Samson was strong, and weak. Where does your strength come from?
No matter what you have done or where you have been God will answer your prayer of confession and use you again as His instrument. Do not give up pray. Prayer changes things!:

Most people struggle with things from their past because they do not allow the Spirit to renew them in the present. Their destinies are stolen or destroyed because they were unaware of how spiritual strongholds develop. Strongholds are built up through various methods, providing Satan with a base of operations. We are well aware of Satan's sinister tendencies. However, it extends beyond that. Satan's troops want to establish long-term strongholds where they may rule and hold people prisoner, adding to the everyday harassing, tempting, or hit-and-run attacks. Demonic powers look for individuals and situations where they can flourish with minimal resistance. Spiritual strongholds are conflicts, stances, and ideas opposed to God's intentions. These mental patterns are based on what we know and believe and inevitably shape our actions. The Bible uses the term to describe harmful thought patterns, arrogant attitudes, or messages from the outside world that have left a lasting impression on Christians' minds and hearts. Over time, these beliefs can become strongholds in the spiritual realm that people need to destroy using the truth of God's Word. Samson, a powerful individual, capitulated to a stronghold. Like many Christians, Samson was born to win, yet the Philistines took him as a prisoner. Samson's life offers a wealth of lessons. He was a strong man who would eventually turn into a man of sorrow. Samson's story is a picture for the downtrodden Christian: our sin is the biggest obstacle to receiving God's power. And despite having God's strength, we frequently fall short of our potential. Samson had (literal and figurative) “climbed into bed” with the world, and as a result, the world had a firm grip on him. His obsession with Delilah and his love for her served as his stronghold. He lost his spiritual vigor because he had turned away from dedication and obedience to the Lord due to her great influence over him. This stronghold, which appeared like an angel, was a demon. Judges 16 Today I glorify God in my life and walk in authority. I surrender my thoughts, will, intellect, emotions and imagination in complete obedience to the Word of God. I believe the Word and I speak in faith. I command all strongholds and mental thought patterns not in Gods will for my life broken and cast out! I declare circumstances are changing in my favor & I have what I say! My body belongs to God and I make my flesh obey the Word. I am healed mentally, emotionally and physically. I resist the temptation to sin or to go back to my old way of living. The devil is under my feet & nothing shall by any means harm me. No plague shall come near my house. I am anointed! I overcome all attacks and any setback of the enemy by the blood of Jesus & the Words of my mouth. No weapon formed against me shall prosper! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/felicia721/message

Here is the second set from the band's performance on March 3, 1981 at the beautiful Music Hall in Cleveland Ohio. They open with 'China Cat', while Garcia flubs the first verse, he makes up for it with a fine transition into Rider. A rockin 'Samson and Delilah' follows and then a long 'He's Gone'. The Drums section is particularly potent here, leading not into a long Space but instead into a 'Sailor>Saint' combo. The 'Black Peter' that follows is very soulful indeed. They close the set with 'Good Lovin' then return for a 'Casey Jones' encore. Despite Samson's unfaithfulness in his life, the Lord God shows his faithfulness and grace to Samson. In this episode, Dr. Bruce Becker investigates the crimes of both Samson, who was the most undisciplined and reckless of all the judges, and Delilah, who is the Bible's most famous "femme fatale." It's Friday the 13th, but I hope you'll feel lucky to listen to this fine second set from October 18, 1978. The second night of the 'From Egypt with Love' run at Winterland, this set features some very strong Drums and Space, highlighted by a guest appearance from Lee Oskar, giving it a decided Egyptian feel. While Jerry flubs the lyrics to 'Terrapin Station' a fine 'Samson and Delilah' more than makes up for it. The show also has a rare set-ending 'Truckin' which is first rate. I hope you enjoy it.. This week we feature the second set from the performance on June 22, 1976 near Philadelphia PA. Again, an unusual opener, with a jazzy 'Playin' going into an intense 'Space Jam' - this one featuring the 'Happiness is Drumming' themes that later developed into 'Fire on the Mountain'. 'The Wheel' follows, with its own spacy elements, including some great Phil riffs, before going back into the 'Playin' reprise. The 'Samson' is strong, and the 'Eyes' pretty speedy for this period. The remainder of the show features some nice rocking - 'Dancin', 'Around and Around' and a great 'Goin' Down the Road' into 'Saturday Night'.. PLEASE NOTE if you automatically downloaded this episode this morning you may have a corrupted file please redownload from this link! Thank you! This week we conclude our visit to the Uptown Theater with the second set from the band's performance on January 31, 1978. This set starts with a fine Scarlet>Fire with a wonderful transition with Donna hitting this just right. The Samson is raging, then the band goes into a delicious Terrapin Station, into a sweet Playing with Phil really adding some nice bottom. A short Drums and Space leads into an intense 'Black Peter', much longer than the earlier versions, then 'Truckin' leads into a set closing, and quite enjoyable 'Good Lovin'. No encore. While I played this show, unbeknownst to me, ten years ago on the Deadpod, I am still going to present the wonderful second set this week. This show, from Indianapolis on October 1, 1976, features a sweet second set. While a 'Might As Well' opener might not signal such a beauty, the 'Samson' that follows quickly convinces that we are in a for a treat. Great interplay throughout from Jerry and Phil. When the 'Help>Slip>Frank' that follows gets rolling the band hits on all cylinders. I especially love Keith's contribution in the great 'Slipknot!' jam here. A somewhat short 'Dancin' goes into an even shorter 'drums' but 'The Wheel' that follows is sweet. Following 'Ship of Fools', Bobby attempts to go back into 'Dancin' in a very unusual jam, but the boys move into a 'Goin' Down the Road' into 'Saturday Night' to end the set. This Labor Day weekend the Deadpod brings you the 2nd set from the band's performance at the Shoreline Amphitheater on August 18, 1991. There's alot of joy in this set, I think, as the band seems to be enjoying themselves throughout. A fine 'Deal' opens things up - Hornsby is evident here and throughout. The band delivers a topnotch version of 'Samson and Delilah' to follow. A somewhat sloppy 'Mississippi Half-Step' leads into a rather funky 'Feel Like a Stranger'. Out of the Rhythm Devils we get a favorite of mine, 'China Doll', then the band closes with a rocking trifecta of 'Goin' Down the Road', 'Throwin' Stones' and 'Not Fade Away'. One of the highlights is the perfectly executed 'Brokedown Palace' encore. Today we follow two stories of betrayal with Samson and Delilah and Micah and the Levite. Fr. Mike also explains why Judges is the best example of how God can use broken people to do his will. The reading are Judges 16-18 and Psalm 147. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
