Part 2: J.D. Greear started at a church with two people in the college class. Today, The Summit Church has planted more than 700 churches and is chasing a vision of 1,000. In this episode of Breaking Barriers, Andrew Hopper and J.D. unpack the philosophy, the failures, and the flywheel behind one of the most prolific sending churches in America. Topics include: why multiplication is a faithfulness issue, not just a strategy; how to tell the difference between a campus and a church plant; what kills sending culture before it starts; and why gospel growth and gospel multiplication were never meant to be in tension.

Have you ever ordered a full meal deal at a fast food restaurant? What if you opened your bag, looking forward to a burger and fries and the only thing in the bag was one french fry? It would be incomplete and we wouldn't get the benefits of the rest of the meal. So it is with scripture. We cannot take just one verse and understand the wonderful truth it is revealing. This week's focus is on Philippians 4:19. Have you been blessed by this message? Please bless us back by clicking like, sharing and commenting on our messages. Defining Moments - Week 5 - The Cross by The Summit Church
Michael previews a 2026 “Understanding Emotions” track with track leader Brad Hambrick, focused on anger, bitterness, and pride. Hambrick shares his roles as pastor of counseling at The Summit Church and assistant professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and introduces the track team: Jeremy Pierre, Shannon MCCoy, and Andrew Dealy. The track aims to provide deep, practical biblical theology, emphasize how sinful emotions distort good God-given purposes, and help counselors cultivate self-awareness in those who deny their struggles. Session topics include Pierre on flesh and spirit and how distortions occur; Dealy on counseling pride and developing humble confidence; Hambrick on recognizing sinful anger and pursuing “constructive displeasure of mercy”; MCCoy on identifying bitterness and moving toward healthy lament; and a concluding Pierre-led discussion with possible audience questions. 00:00 Podcast Welcome01:03 Meet Brad Hambrick02:49 Why This Emotions Track03:02 Anger Pride Bitterness Framework04:46 Session Lineup Overview07:01 Conference Details and WrapEpisode MentionsResister Now

Defining Moments - Week 4 - The Last Supper by The Summit Church
Message from The Summit Church, Raleigh-Durham, NC - March 15, 2026
In this episode of Speak the Truth, Michael interviews Chris Minott, Director of Soul Care and Biblical Counseling at Summit Church in Fort Myers, Florida, about codependency within ongoing discussions of trauma. Minott explains codependency's cultural origin in the late 1970s around addiction-affected relationships and defines it as overly responsible, controlling, identity-seeking behavior that continues even when the addict recovers. She frames codependency biblically as relational idolatry and fear of man, drawing on Ed Welch's When People Are Big and God Is Small, and describes manifestations such as people-pleasing, caretaking, rescuing, and helpless-victim patterns. Using Galatians 6:1–5, she distinguishes burden-bearing from carrying one's own load, offers tools to clarify responsibility versus concern and entrusting concerns to God, emphasizes God's attributes, and points to Jesus' example (including Lazarus) for compassionate, truth-filled love.00:00 Welcome and Topic Setup00:49 Meet Chris Minott03:37 What Codependency Means04:44 Cultural Roots and Heart Issues09:39 Common Codependency Patterns14:03 Burden Bearing vs Enabling16:16 Tools for Healthy Boundaries23:07 Jesus as the Model25:07 Final Thanks and Wrap UpEpisode MentionsCounseling Codependency Handout - Chris Minott
The Summit Church’s journey doesn't begin when they re-launched in 2002. It didn't even begin when they were planted in 1962. It began 2,000 years ago, with 11 frightened disciples on a hillside outside of Jerusalem. In the last 20 years, countless saints from our church have gone to be with Jesus. What would they tell us if heaven were opened up, just for five minutes? What would they want us to do with what we have?
