God's Word for Today15 May, 20253 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;4 by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.-Prov 24:3,4 ESV WISDOM BUILDS HOMEDefinitely, this is not about building a literal house building. Any effort benefits from the application of wisdom. Businesses do well to use common sense and ethical practices. A wise parent builds a strong home by teaching the children to fear the Lord and to walk in His ways.(Prov1:7) However, evil, sin, and foolishness most often lead to destruction (Prov 8:32–36). Psa 127:1 says, "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”Solomon is a prime example of building a structure by wisdom. He wisely built the temple in Jerusalem that his father David was not allowed to build. In the New Testament, Jesus relates the sensible man who built his house on a solid foundation (Mat 7:24–25) The wise person undertakes an enterprise and launches it successfully. Habakkuk pronounces woe on the person who builds a house or town for selfish gain and commits violence to do so. The Lord will judge that person and his work. [Hab 2:9–12]Evil people want to destroy lives (Prov 24:1), as their plans often involve taking advantage of others. Immorality leads to ruin in eternity (Prov 10:29; 18:7) and often brings harsh consequences in this life (Prov 8:32–36). In contrast, those who seek knowledge (Prov 1:7; 2:1–6) build others up. They gain valuable understanding (Prov 8:10; 23:23) which helps them succeed. Earlier sections of this book depicted foolishness as leading to the ruin of a house (Prov2:16–19; 14:1, 11). Here, one's house—a literal home or any other effort—is enhanced by the application of wisdom. The home of the wise is pictured as having rooms filled with blessings. Definitely, we can parallel the "precious and pleasant riches" of this verse with the beautiful, valuable characteristics mentioned in Gal 5:22–23 and in 2 Pet 1:5–7. It is the wisest choice to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. Why? He bears fruit in our lives, such as, "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."[ Gal 5:22–23] Moreover, the apostle Peter exhorts believers to add to their faith by furnishing their lives with the following valuable qualities; virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love (2 Pet 1:5–7). Such things are worthwhile in and of themselves; they also bring great benefits to those who apply them.Watch in YouTube: https://youtu.be/lPuuvKVODmgListen and FOLLOW us on our podcast Spotify: http://bit.ly/glccfil_spotify Apple Podcast: http://bit.ly/glccfil-applepcast Audible Podcast: http://bit.ly/glccfil-audibleFollow us on various media platforms: https://gospellightfilipino.contactin.bio#gospellightfilipino#godswordfortoday

The Bible consistently warns believers to flee sexual immorality, emphasizing its destructive power and the call to holiness. In 1 Corinthians 6:18, Paul directly commands, “Flee sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” Sexual sin not only defiles the individual but also grieves the Holy Spirit and damages the body, which is the temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Immorality includes a wide range of sexual behaviors outside the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and the Bible calls these actions sinful and contrary to God's design for purity. In 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, Paul further instructs believers to “abstain from sexual immorality,” urging them to live in holiness and honor, not in passionate lust like the Gentiles who do not know God. Sexual purity is a reflection of our identity in Christ and a testimony to the world of God's sanctifying work in our lives. Believers are called to actively flee from these temptations, relying on God's strength to walk in purity and honor Him with their bodies. The letters to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3 are possibly some of the best known parts of the apocalypic book, mainly due to their accessibility compared to the rest of it. But how should we read these seven letters? Are they examples of the history or eras of the church? Are they addressed to different types of church today? Are they symbolic? And why all the Old Testament references?Join Alex, Chris & Jo as they discuss these significant chapters, give some good background information that help make sense of what John is writing, and then talk aboput how we might be able to bring some meaning to us today. After addressing the dangers of corrupt passions and possessions, Isaiah turns to an even deeper issue—corrupt principles. When greed and indulgence dominate society, the next inevitable step is the distortion of truth itself. In Isaiah 5:18-23, the prophet condemns those who redefine morality, calling evil good and good evil, embracing deception, arrogance, and injustice. This woe highlights the tragic reality that when people reject God's standard, they create their own, leading to widespread moral decay.

The Scripture readings are Exodus 8:16-24; Ephesians 5:1-9; and Luke 11:14-28. Scripture gives you several ways to fight against the devil and the darkness. But this text gives you one simple, specific weapon to fight back against the forces of evil, and that is thanksgiving. As you give thanks, the darkness flees.
This passage is a sobering reminder that when people persist in sin, they inevitably invite divine judgment. The sins that plagued Judah are the same sins that permeate societies today—unchecked greed that leads to oppression, unrestrained pleasure-seeking that blinds people to the truth, and the distortion of morality that justifies evil. Yet, amid judgment, God's heart still longs for repentance. This sermon will explore Isaiah's three key denunciations: the woe of corrupt possession (injustice), the woe of carnal pleasure (indulgence), and the woe of corrupt principles (immorality). This passage reveals the timeless truth: a nation that rejects God's righteousness will ultimately reap the consequences of its rebellion. However, God's grace remains the only refuge from impending judgment for those who turn from sin.
We are entering an age where children are made, not begotten; commissioned, not conceived; designed, and delivered to order, like a handbag or custom suit. These children's stories don't begin with a sperm and and egg, but with a signature and a lawyer. And in the eyes of our culture, this is not tragedy. It's progress.Across the West, surrogacy is sold as compassion—an act of love for the infertile. It is framed as fulfillment for the same-sex couple. It is presented as relief for the hopeful parent with no biological path forward. But beneath the glossy language of “choice” and “family” lies a darker truth: children are being deliberately severed from their mothers, not by death, not by accident—but by design. And increasingly, by commerce.Recently, Jordan Peterson sat down with Katy Faust. It should have been another routine exchange—thoughtful, careful, reasonable. But it wasn't. Faust confronted Peterson, and by extension, the moral schizophrenia of the modern Right: a movement that claims to uphold the family even as it normalizes its destruction.Surrogacy is not simply a medical option—it is a moral crisis. It reorders the very foundations of parenthood, identity, and human dignity. A society that affirms this practice will not remain a society for long, because no nation can endure that builds itself on the backs of children who have been severed from the ones who bore them. This episode is brought to you by our premier sponsors, Armored Republic and Reece Fund, as well as our Patreon members and donors. Then we unpack the Peterson–Faust conversation, and expose why surrogacy is not just a cultural debate—it's a test of whether we still believe in human order and dignity. We are continuing our series called Crosswinds, which is all about the things in your horizontal relationships that hinder your vertical relationship with the Lord. How you treat people matters, and if we’re going to pursue the glory of God, we have to pay attention to our relationships with others because God is definitely paying attention. So what are the crosswinds that will take out your relationships? We’ve talked about excessive alcohol consumption and sexual immorality. Last week, we began talking about immaturity, and we’re continuing that discussion this week by focusing on how we should change the way we speak, think and reason to be more mature believers.

Hebrews 12:16 that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. As we know from previous portions of Hebrews, the author's audience wasn't 100% believing. Some were in danger of neglecting God's great salvation (2:2), of having evil, unbelieving hearts (3:12), of hardness of heart (3:13), of not entering into God's promised rest (4:1), of being incapable of repentance unto life (6:6), and of shrinking back to destruction (10:39). With that in mind, we shouldn't be surprised at the author's seemingly shocking admonition to be on the lookout for immoral and godless people. We all have the responsibility to “see to it” that there are none in our circle of believers who would compromise the name of Jesus for momentary, earthly gratification of the lusts of the body as Esau did. How do we “see to it?” Three courses of action come to mind. If you become aware of someone who is acting immorally, that could be participating in porn, an unmarried couple living together with privileges, or a married person involved emotionally or sexually with someone who is not their spouse, then 1). in love and concern, confront them with Hebrews 12:1-16, and call them to repentance. That's also the application of Matt. 7:1-5 and Gal. 6:1. 2). Inform an elder or leader of their church about your concern and love for them based on Heb. 12:15-16. Ask them to go with you to confront the individual(s) to call them to repentance (Matt. 18:15-17). 3). If they will not repent, then in accordance with Matt. 18, unite with the church in denying them fellowship. You are to avoid them as Paul admonished in 2 Tim. 3:5. Living to love with Jesus isn't about making sinners who call themselves Christians feel good. God's love is the sustained direction of the will toward the highest good of someone, in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the glory of God. Not confronting an immoral so-called believer isn't in their best interest. Wouldn't you want someone to confront you if you were caught in a transgression such as this? We should do to others what we would wish were done for us (Matt. 7:12). If we ever are faced with such a situation, let us ask Jesus how He wants to love them. We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit, so we can love them well. God has put them in our path, and therefore, we know He intends to love them through us.

Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.13 “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. "Every other sin a person commits is outside the body", but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Every follower of Jesus is challenged by Jesus' words on marriage and divorce, and we ought to commit ourselves to God's design when it comes to marriage: a covenant union of Jesus-like love that is established by God to reflect his image and fulfill his purposes as male and female.PLEASE NOTE: This week's talk explores verses from the Sermon on the Mount dealing with divorce and immorality, so parental guidance is recommended.
Would 1 Corinthians 5 also apply to those who call themselves 'family' while not acting as such?1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?13 But them that are without God judgeth. I do not know how near our nation is to destruction, but I do believe that as a nation is to destruction, but I do believe that as a nation, we are unaware. I do not know how close some of God's people are to severe chastening as a result of their rebellion against God, but I know that many of them are very unaware of how near they are. God spoke through His prophet to the nation of Israel, "You are unaware."
Fr. Mike leads us through the book of Jude and discusses its main message of calling us to lives of faithfulness. He also contextualizes 2 Timothy by highlighting Paul's imprisonment and his final message to rekindle the gift of God within us. Today's readings are from Jude, 2 Timothy 1-2, and Proverbs 31:1-7. As we continue to follow the missions of Paul and Barnabas, Fr. Mike highlights the fickle nature of humanity and the futility of striving for the praise of men. He also encourages us to remain courageous in the tribulations we face, finding strength in other believers, and running toward the eternal and imperishable goal of salvation. Today's readings are Acts 14, 1 Corinthians 9-10, and Proverbs 28:7-9. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
